The word Eurasian refers people of mixed European and Asian heritage. It is also one of the four official races of Singapore - others are Chinese, Malay and Indian. Often overlooked, Eurasian cuisine is a wonderful blend of Eastern and Western ingredients.
This recipe is adapted from the book Robin's Eurasian Recipes. Robin is the father of the chef at Quentin's Eurasian Restaurant at the Eurasian Community House in Singapore.

India had a rich treasure of 82000 indigenous rice varieties and in Bengal we had more than 5500 varieties.These region specific varieties may be termed folk varieties.It has many typical and varied characters ranging from short duration to long duration,fine to bold,one grain to two/three grains per rice,purple rice Khara,high yielder (5-6 ton an ha) to low yielder,scented to non scented,It can be grown in marginal land like deep water to dry scanty rainfall area etc.After the Green Revolution these are fast dwindling from farmers' filed.Only a handful of folk rice are extant in farmers field.Ecologist Dr Debal Deb first initiated folk rice conservation work way back in 1997-98 in Basudha of Bankura District of West Bengal.He has now 690 folk varieties and it is the largest non governmental seed bank in eastern India.He characterized 416 folk varieties( Seeds of Tradition Seeds Of Future,2005,Navdanya,New Delhi) Inspired by his work Mr Anupam Paul of Agricultural Training Centre Fulia(Phulia),Nadia,West Bengal has initiated almost same work in 2001.He has now 205 folk rice varieties.Some farmers also realized the importance of conservation and they have started.Mr Avra Chakraborty of Burdwan has also initiated conserving our rich bio resources. There are more than 30 ha of folk rice in Ausgram Block of Burdwan and Mr Sourin Chaterjee and others have taken keen interest in this matter.farmers have found an effective alternative to input intensive modern rice varieties(HYV).Keralasundari give 4-5 ton a ha which is higher or same as popular modern variety Mtu 7029.Conservation of bio diversity helps in maintaining future food security.

After swiss Bnsch + Debal Sommer did present their cattle-investigation about sunshine and mountains, big city calf Ali Een had her debut: the report about smoking abstract cigars in a concrete environment. A group of speakers firmed under the term Konfetti Klub Ensemble and the gathering was surprised about the fact that cows can be serious animals and playing the trumpet at the same time.
However the founding members of Falling Cows were lying on carpets, after their completed excursion into the world of flying. Timboletti arrived from his exotic train journey and started to describe it in most colorful expressions. Next to him, the first cow member of his own cat-tribe Caterkarlos, did head under the roof and pointed out deep aspects of the identification of truth. Last but not least, spanish Cow Pilas balanced the preparation for the 29th revolution on two swing chairs.
All in all a mind-blowing conference!

Debal( ديبل) was an ancient port located near modern Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. In Arabic, it was usually called Daybul (Dīwal ~ Dībal ديبل ) it is adjacent to the nearby Manora Island and was administered by Mansura, and later Thatta.
According to modern archaeologists Debal was founded in the 1st century AD, and soon became the most important trading city in Sindh, the city was home to thousands of Sindhi Sailors including the Bawarij. Ibn Hawqal mentions huts of the city and the dry arid land surrounding the city that supported little agriculture, he mentions how efficiently the inhabitants of the city and how they maintained fishing vessels and trade. The Abbasids were the first to build large stone structures including a city wall and a citadel.
Debal and the Manora Island and was visited by Ottoman admiral Seydi Ali Reis and mentioned in his book Mir'ât ül Memâlik in 1554. In 1568 Debal was attacked by the Portuguese Admiral Fernão Mendes Pinto in an attempt to capture or destroy the Ottoman vessels anchored there. Fernão Mendes Pinto also claims that Sindhi Sailors joined the Ottoman Admiral Kurtoğlu Hızır Reis on his voyage to Aceh. Debal was also visited by the British travel writers such as Thomas Postans and Eliot, who is noted for his vivid account on the city of Thatta.

India had a rich treasure of 82000 indigenous rice varieties and in Bengal we had more than 5500 varieties.These region specific varieties may be termed folk varieties.It has many typical and varied characters ranging from short duration to long duration,fine to bold,one grain to two/three grains per rice,purple rice Khara,high yielder (5-6 ton an ha) to low yielder,scented to non scented,It can be grown in marginal land like deep water to dry scanty rainfall area etc.After the Green Revolution these are fast dwindling from farmers' filed.Only a handful of folk rice are extant in farmers field.Ecologist Dr Debal Deb first initiated folk rice conservation work way back in 1997-98 in Basudha of Bankura District of West Bengal.He has now 690 folk varieties and it is the largest non governmental seed bank in eastern India.He characterized 416 folk varieties( Seeds of Tradition Seeds Of Future,2005,Navdanya,New Delhi) Inspired by his work Mr Anupam Paul of Agricultural Training Centre Fulia(Phulia),Nadia,West Bengal has initiated almost same work in 2001.He has now 205 folk rice varieties.Some farmers also realized the importance of conservation and they have started.Mr Avra Chakraborty of Burdwan has also initiated conserving our rich bio resources. There are more than 30 ha of folk rice in Ausgram Block of Burdwan and Mr Sourin Chaterjee and others have taken keen interest in this matter.farmers have found an effective alternative to input intensive modern rice varieties(HYV).Keralasundari give 4-5 ton a ha which is higher or same as popular modern variety Mtu 7029.Conservation of bio diversity helps in maintaining future food security.

However the founding members of Falling Cows were lying on carpets, after their completed excursion into the world of flying. Timboletti arrived from his exotic train journey and started to describe it in most colorful expressions. Next to him, the first cow member of his own cat-tribe Caterkarlos, did head under the roof and pointed out deep aspects of the identification of truth. The gathering of the Copied Cows in the huge court hall of the multistoried farming house made a remarkable impression.
Freshly washed and combed, cow veteran Breger opened the event with an emotional statement against law & order. Followed by Manu Ferrantini 's lecture about slick aspects of being a duck and Peter Groskreutz from the north, who did manipulate the organ to explore it. After swiss Bnsch + Debal Sommer did present their cattle-investigation about sunshine and mountains, big city calf Ali Een had her debut: the report about smoking abstract cigars in a concrete environment. A group of speakers firmed under the term Konfetti Klub Ensemble and the gathering was surprised about the fact that cows can be serious animals and playing the trumpet at the same time.
However the founding members of Falling Cows were lying on carpets, after their completed excursion into the world of flying. Timboletti arrived from his exotic train journey and started to describe it in most colorful expressions. Next to him, the first cow member of his own cat-tribe Caterkarlos, did head under the roof and pointed out deep aspects of the identification of truth. Last but not least, spanish Cow Pilas balanced the preparation for the 29th revolution on two swing chairs.
All in all a mind-blowing conference!

Dr. Debal Deb on Golden Rice. Dr Debal Deb is the true essence of a scientist. A scientist turned farmer who has the ability to understand issues and environments not only on an intellectual level but as importantly, on an emotional one. He understands what is taking place globally and has come to his own conclusions in how best to correct the damage taking place, scientifically and practically. He understands that science can be used as a solution to our food crisis, just that it needs to be functioning holistically, working with the natural systems and almost as importantly, with the farmers and their generations of agricultural knowledge. This maverick scientist working against the corporate and institutional grain, dedicating his life to scientifically prove that nature already had the answers and what we were being sold has little to do with sustainability and everything to do with control. Debal, I was told, was one of four scientists working on what is known as the 'Food Web Theory'. Rather than trying to destroy life around agriculture, Debal argues that we need to understand and then simulate an efficient bio-diverse environment, a more holistic approach to agriculture, one that has existed for many thousands of years. He is involved in preservation of over 1,000 strains of rice, apart from training others how to do so.
Here, Debal of Kolkata speaks with Tonu of Vancouver, on effects of the introduction of GM crops in India, starting with Golden (GM) rice.
