Eritrea:150`000 Trees Planted in Anseba Region (August 27, 2013)

August 2013 -- The Education Ministry's branch in
Anseba region pointed out that around
150,
000 tree seedlings have been planted on the basis of the
SWP, besides the construction of about 54,000 cubic meters of water catchment walls.
Mr. Kifle
Solomon, head of the program in the region, disclosed that more than 116,000 meters of terraces have been renovated and constructed, and that the undertaking also included effective follow-up tasks on flourished tree seedlings, as well as labor support for families of martyrs in rain-fed farming activities. He further indicated that the program was conducted on the basis of 48 stations region-wide involving a total of 6,
500 participants, coordinators and agriculture experts.
Accordingly, the role of
Area administrators was important in the process, and the Area's soil quality is rated to have remarkable convenience for the planted seedlings.
Among the participants,
Bereket Abdu, Samrawit Yohanes
Hanan Ali and
Osman Mohammed expressed conviction that the venture has made significant impact as regards soil and water conservation. They further pointed out that the working atmosphere entails exchange of experience.
Mr. Kifle called on the inhabitants of the region to extend a helping hand towards ensuring sustainability of the accomplishments thus registered.

Dekemhare, 27 August 2013 -- The participants of
Festival 2013 have called on pertinent bodies to reinforce incentive system in connection with youths engaged in development of creative works, and that the event has portrayed the potential thereof. They further noted the need of laying the necessary groundwork for handy youths through launching associations, and pointed out that the role of the society is vital to this end.
Among the participants, Mr.
Isaac Abraham, Mr. Habtom Berhane and Ms.
Alem Araya expressed appreciation for the creative works displayed during the event, and said that the organizing regular exhibitions of this type is essential.
Mr. Robel Tekeste who created an automated fan-operated coal stove as well as controller of mobile telephone parts and Mr. Andom Kiflemariam who developed a special incubator expressed satisfaction with having their works publicized during the Festival. They further encouraged youths with such interest to pursue it.

Molqi, 27 August 2013 --
Health Professionals in Molqi sub-zone called on the inhabitants to practice caution regarding probability of malaria infection in connection with the copious amount of rainfall being registered in the area.
Mr. Solomon Tesfai, head of the health center in the sub-zone, pointed out that more gratifying accomplishment has been registered pertaining to malaria control, and called on communities to adhere to eradication of swamp areas and proper use of bed nets.
Among the inhabitants, Ms. Mihret Berhane, Mr. Kesete Fisehatsion, Mr. Gebrehiwet Ogbamichael and Ms. Guoy Kidane expressed satisfaction with the medical services being rendered in the locality vis-à-vis the hospitality of the health personnel, and called for consistent supply of bed nets.
Meanwhile, reports indicated that the process of rain-fed farming has gained momentum in Molqi sub-zone in line with the bountiful rainfall being witnessed there.
The farmers in the area said that although rainfall was delayed first, the timely tilling of farmland has facilitated the cultivation process.
Among the farmers,
Rev. Gebrekidan Mekonen, Mr. Tesfai Kidane and Mr. Tesfahiwet Hadgu stated
that timely dispatch of weed killers and necessary machineries is a vital prerequisite as regards attaining increased harvest.
Mr. Amanuel Andemariam from the
Agriculture Ministry's branch in the sub-zone disclosed that around 6,000 hectares have been put under cultivation this summer, and that various cereals and legumes are harvested in the area.
