SAUDI ARABIA — A second round of 50 lashes for blogger Raif Badawi has been postponed again, after the flogging session has been pushed back multiple times due to his unhealed wounds from the first round of lashes in January.
Badawi was arrested for setting up a website intended to express his views and those of others on faith. He has been sentenced to 1,000 lashes with a whipping cane and 10 years in jail. The lashings were supposed to take place about once a week for 20 weeks, in a place open to public viewing.
A light wooden cane is used for the lashes, which are administered on the legs and back, according to Human Rights Watch. The human rights agency says the lashes usually leave bruises but don't often break the skin.
The number of lashes that a person can endure is unquantifiable, according to a report by The New Statesman, who cited a case where a coroner in the 19th century examined a British soldier who also endured flogging. According to the report, how much a person can endure is unpredictable as it depends on variables such as the type of whips, the number of knots that the whips may form and, the external temperature.
A dermatologist who examined the soldier's body also noted that there was a connection between the external lacerations caused by the lashes and the internal state of the organs. Although injuries that resulted from flogging were confined to the skin, they were followed by inflammation of the internal organs and pulpy softening of muscles, according to The New Statesman report.

William Lane Craig (born August 23, 1949) is an American analytic philosopher, philosophical theologian, and Christian apologist. He is known for his work in the philosophy of religion, philosophy of time, and the defense of Christian theism. One of his most notable contributions to the philosophy of religion is his defense of the Kalām cosmological argument, which is the most widely discussed argument for the existence of God in contemporary Western philosophy. In theology, he has also defended Molinism and the belief that God is, since Creation, subject to time.
Craig has authored or edited over 30 books, including The Kalām Cosmological Argument (1979), The Cosmological Argument from Plato to Leibniz (1980), Theism, Atheism, and Big Bang Cosmology (with Quentin Smith, 1993), Philosophical Foundations for a Christian Worldview (with J.P. Moreland, 2003) and Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics (3d edition, 2008).
Craig received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Wheaton College, Illinois, in 1971 and two summa cum laude master's degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, in 1975, in philosophy of religion and ecclesiastical history. He earned a Ph.D. in philosophy under John Hick at the University of Birmingham, England in 1977 and a Th.D. under Wolfhart Pannenberg at the University of Munich in 1984.

Cherie Blair QC (born 23 September 1954), known professionally as Cherie Booth QC, is a British barrister practising in England and Wales. She is married to the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair; the couple have three sons and one daughter.
Cherie Booth was born on 23 September 1954 at Fairfield Hospital, Bury, Lancashire (now Greater Manchester), England, and brought up in Ferndale Road, Waterloo, north of Liverpool. She was christened Theresa Cara Booth. Her father, British actor Tony Booth, left her mother, actress Gale Howard (née Joyce Smith), when Cherie was eight years old. She and her younger sister, Lyndsey, were then brought up by their mother Gale and their paternal grandmother, Vera Booth, a devout Roman Catholic of Irish descent. The number of lashes that a person can endure is unquantifiable, according to a report by The New Statesman, who cited a case where a coroner in the 19th century examined a British soldier who also endured flogging. According to the report, how much a person can endure is unpredictable as it depends on variables such as the type of whips, the number of knots that the whips may form and, the external temperature.
A dermatologist who examined the soldier's body also noted that there was a connection between the external lacerations caused by the lashes and the internal state of the organs. Although injuries that resulted from flogging were confined to the skin, they were followed by inflammation of the internal organs and pulpy softening of muscles, according to The New Statesman report.

The blogger who was sentenced to 1,000 lashes in Saudi Arabia is flogged 50 times while shackled in chains outside a mosque in Jada`ah. The flogging is the first round of punishment for 'insulting Islam'. The rest of the sentence will be carried out over a period of 50 weeks.

"The freedom of expression is the air any thinker breathes, as it is the fuel that ignites the flame of thought. Over the centuries, nations and communities never advanced except through their thinkers.
Communities around the world and Arab human rights organizations demand regimes to perform further reforms in the field of freedom of expression, believing that it is one essential human right. You are a human being; you have the right to express yourself and think whatever you want to think. Similarly, you have the right to declare what you think. It is your right to believe and think; it is your right to like and dislike.
Arab thinkers who held free thoughts always circumvented the text and twisted the arms of ideas to present the notion, since free, enlightened thoughts are considered disbelief and heresy, according to the Arab societies that regards every free thought as mere decay and rebellion against religion and ‘the right path’.
Is this normal? Of course not. Both sides, the Arab thinker and society, act in contrast to nature. The thinker must reveal his ideas or philosophy about all things openly and dauntlessly, even if they carried a bit of a mistake or swam against the current of the ‘religious custom’. Society, in turn, must accommodate all ideas and intellectual currents, hence allocating itself an area to listen to the opinions of others, in order to be able to criticize those views constructively on the foundations of creative dialogue, aiming at evaluating and developing the idea, not just rejecting it due to mere differences of opinion."
