The word railhead is a railway term with two distinct meanings, depending upon its context.
Sometimes, particularly in the context of modern freight terminals, the word is used to denote a terminus of a railway line, especially if the line is not yet finished, or if the terminus interfaces with another transport mode, such as shipping or a train ferry.
Alternatively, the word can refer to the highest part of a rail profile, on the top surface of which the wheels of the rolling stock run.
The United States Army (USA) is the largest branch of the United States Armed Forces and performs land-based military operations. It is one of the seven uniformed services of the United States, and is designated as the Army of the United States in the United States Constitution, Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1 and United States Code, Title 10, Subtitle B, Chapter 301, Section 3001. As the largest and senior branch of the U.S. military, the modern U.S. Army has its roots in the Continental Army, which was formed (14 June 1775) to fight the American Revolutionary War (1775–83)—before the U.S. was established as a country. After the Revolutionary War, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on 3 June 1784, to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The United States Army considers itself descended from the Continental Army, and dates its institutional inception from the origin of that armed force in 1775.
Marines, also known as a marine corps and naval infantry, are an infantry force that specializes in the support of naval and army operations on land and at sea, as well as the execution of their own operations. In the majority of countries, the marine force is part of the navy, but it can also be under the army like the Troupes de marine (French Marines) and Givati Brigade (Israeli Marines), or form an independent armed service branch like the United States Marine Corps and Royal Marines.
Historically, tasks undertaken by marines have included providing protection from war while at sea, reflecting the pressed nature of the ships' company and the risk of mutiny. Other tasks would include boarding of vessels during combat or capture of prize ships and providing manpower for raiding ashore in support of the naval objectives.
With the industrialization of warfare in the 20th century the scale of landing operations increased; this brought with it an increased likelihood of opposition and a need for co-ordination of various military elements. Marine forces evolved to specialize in the skills and capabilities required for amphibious warfare.
The Marine Corps operates a busy railhead at Barstow, Calif., for heavy military equipment including M-1 tanks transported by train as seen in this April 2015 production. Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, California has implemented several initiatives that continue to make its railhead not only the largest in the Department of Defense, but also increase its value as a strategic asset. Based at the Yermo Annex of MCLB Barstow, training rotations account for a hefty share of the rail traffic at Yermo, and equipment is often sent to Production Plant Barstow, Marine Depot Maintenance Command there for repair and overhaul. A major training cycle took place in March, with First Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas on-loading after an 18-day exercise at the National Training Center at nea...

A compilation here during the Autumn months. Every Autumn, the Rail Head Treatment Trains (RHTT) comes out across the United Kingdom to provide traction during the leaf fall season. As the leaves fall on the rail's, trains run over the leaves and create a sticky residue. As trains try to stop and start at stations, this residue creates a lack of traction and trains struggle to both stop and start. These trains come out and spray a high pressure water-jet to clear the leaves off the track and restore traction on the rails. Once again this year, my local area was covered by DB Schenker Class 66 sheds. They both worked the 3J01 and 3J87 sectors of the RHTT. The main feature though of this year was the First DB shed (66046) with the new LED lighting fitted. This stuck to the 3J87 runs. In...

We begin chapter two by exploring a new town, there does seem to be something a little fishy going on here though.... Kamikaze seagull planes
Fighting over chip shop take-away remains
When you're walking on the cliffs
You can't help thinking of how far down the sea is
And what if it should give...
I didn't mean to bring you down
Summer's over, seaside town
She says we shouldn't have come so far
This seaside town, summer's over.
Empty pubs echo with sounds
Jukebox selections that keep going round and round
And maybe rain is all we need
To come and wash the summer rubbish off the beach
Oh, let's just go to sleep!
I didn't mean to bring you down
Summer's over, seaside town
She says we shouldn't have come so far
This seaside town...
[CHORUS]
In the back of the arcades
Kids borrow money to play one more final game
While mothers wait in family cars
I wonder why we ever chose to come so far
But I wish you wouldn't ask...
I didn't mean to bring you down
Summer's over, seaside town
She says we shouldn't have come so far
This seaside town...
[CHORUS]
This summer's over, seaside town,
This seaside town, summer's over,
Summer's over...
