This is really a cool video to show my relationship with zeus and how cute and funny he is. and his instincts of being a serval. he is adorable.
He is a domesticated Serval which means it is different than the Servals living in the wild in Africa. Even though these cats have the same DNA and look the same there are some differences. A Domesticated Serval has been domestically bred in captivity for multiple generations going back to the 1960's. None of the Serval cats you see in homes today were taken out of the wild. They have all been hand raised for years in loving homes. It does take a special educated open minded and patient animal person to own a Serval. A serval is a medium sized African species averaging 20-60lbs and standing 15-30 inches at the shoulder. The Serval has been domesticated for over 5000 years, the ancient Egyptians not only had these majestic cats as pets but they worshiped the serval for its grace and power. This is a highly intelligent animal and as a pet is very much dog like.
ATTENTION:
Servals DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS. Saying they dont make good pets doesnt mean they cannot make good pets.. Servals Require much more attention devotion responsibility time and money than any domestic pet or hybrid.

Zeus The Serval is 2 1/2 years old. Hera The Savannah is 5 months old. This isn't actually the first time Zeus and Hera have come into contact. Over the past few months I have held Hera while introducing her and Zeus slowly so they can sniff each other. I have also put Zeus into Hera's room multiple times and let him sniff her bed and litter pan. They also play 'footsies' underneath my bedroom door. This is the first time I have let Hera go without holding her and as you can see in the video, I talk to Zeus in a calm voice (Sometimes higher pitched) to remind him that everything is okay, that he is doing good and theres nothing to be scared of (Servals are scardy cats) He did wonderfully, and Hera looks like she is going to be the boss of their relationship. lol After I put Hera back into her room, Zeus was so happy he was running up and down the stairs calling for her and looking for her. He was so happy that he is going to soon have a companion to play with.

This is a Serval cat playing with my kids, in our home. You can see he is very gentle although big and clumsy. He is a very large and very powerful. Being a wild animal he is very gentle and loves my children.

To all of you upset that I video taped myself in this video lol I have been a YouTube Vlogger for over 6 years. I have my own youtube channel where I vlog myself and my family. And while I was filming most of these videos I was planning on putting them on my OWN channel. Instead I made Zeus his own channel because I thought it would be appropriate. The serval (
/ˈsɜrvəl/), Leptailurus serval or Caracal serval,[citation needed] known in Afrikaans as Tierboskat, "tiger-forest-cat", is a medium-sized African wild cat. DNA studies have shown that the serval is closely related to the African golden cat and the caracal.
The serval is a medium-sized cat, measuring 59 to 92 cm (23 to 36 in) in head-body length, with a relatively short, 20 to 38 cm (7.9 to 15 in) tail, and a shoulder height of about 54 to 66 cm (21 to 26 in). Weight ranges from about 7 to 12 kg (15 to 26 lb) in females, and from 9 to 18 kg (20 to 40 lb) in males.
It is a strong yet slender animal, with long legs and a fairly short tail. The head is small in relation to the body, and the tall, oval ears are set close together. The pattern of the fur is variable. Usually, the serval is boldly spotted black on tawny, with two or four stripes from the top of the head down the neck and back, transitioning into spots. The "servaline" form has much smaller, freckled spots, and was once thought to be separate species. The backs of the ears are black with a distinctive white bar. In addition, melanistic servals are quite common in some parts of the range, giving a similar appearance to the "black panther" (melanistic leopard).

This isn't actually the first time Zeus and Hera have come into contact. Over the past few months I have held Hera while introducing her and Zeus slowly so they can sniff each other. The Serval has been domesticated for over 5000 years, the ancient Egyptians not only had these majestic cats as pets but they worshiped the serval for its grace and power. This is a highly intelligent animal and as a pet is very much dog like.
ATTENTION:
Servals DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS. Saying they dont make good pets doesnt mean they cannot make good pets.. Servals Require much more attention devotion responsibility time and money than any domestic pet or hybrid.
A Serval is solitary by nature and will roam up to 4 square miles which it claims as its own territory. ALL Servals (male and female) SPRAY to mark their territory wether they are altered or not. So yes, they will spray your house, your whole house. Doors, walls, clothes, furniture, even you and your family. They will never use the literbox completely. Which means you will have areas in your home where the serval will relieve it self wether you try to train them not to or you put things in the way to try to get it to avoid it.
The Serval will live up to 20 years old and needs zoo-like outside/inside facilities with a large enough exercise area to run, a pool in which to swim and dive, and an area with lots of climbing possibilities. Servals will escape from anything that is not totally secure and are unlikely to return once having escaped. Servals are solitary by nature and like to travel many miles when hunting. They require a special all natural RAW diet with vitamin supplements and special health care.
Even if hand-raised and tamed, a Serval will never be a "lap cat".
Servals are only legal in 4 States and STILL require a permit and have guidelines for the size and type of cage that they need. Check with your state and local authorities.

This is me playing chase with my Serval cat Zeus. He loves to jump and play 'tag' with me. This is when he is about 18 months old.

Zeus The Serval is 2 1/2 years old. Hera The Savannah is 5 months old. This isn't actually the first time Zeus and Hera have come into contact. Over the past few months I have held Hera while introducing her and Zeus slowly so they can sniff each other. I have also put Zeus into Hera's room multiple times and let him sniff her bed and litter pan. They also play 'footsies' underneath my bedroom door. This is the first time I have let Hera go without holding her and as you can see in the video, I talk to Zeus in a calm voice (Sometimes higher pitched) to remind him that everything is okay, that he is doing good and theres nothing to be scared of (Servals are scardy cats) He did wonderfully, and Hera looks like she is going to be the boss of their relationship. lol After I put Hera back into her room, Zeus was so happy he was running up and down the stairs calling for her and looking for her. He was so happy that he is going to soon have a companion to play with.

I am assuming I will get a lot of controversy for this video. But that's not a bad thing at all! I am aware that people are upset that I feed my Serval live baby mice every couple months, and I am aware that people think its 'murder' even though in the WILD a Serval WILL hunt and eat much larger mice/rodents/snakes/frogs/birds. For a Serval, as well as most wild animals that eat live mice ect. they are getting their full nutrients out of eating the mice. The bones, the fur, the intestines, liver, heart brain and all vital organs are so good for a serval to grow into a healthy animal instead of always having raw chicken legs hearts breasts and what not that who knows how long it has been dead and how much nutrients has been lost from it so even putting wild feline supplements/vitamins/calcium, they are not getting what they need to survive. These mice are bred to be eaten and sold as 'feeder mice' for snakes, lizards, and other wild animals to eat. Thank you to those who understand.

I am assuming I will get a lot of controversy for this video. But that's not a bad thing at all! I am aware that people are upset that I feed my Serval live baby mice every couple months, and I am aware that people think its 'murder' even though in the WILD a Serval WILL hunt and eat much larger mice/rodents/snakes/frogs/birds. For a Serval, as well as most wild animals that eat live mice ect. they are getting their full nutrients out of eating the mice. The bones, the fur, the intestines, liver, heart brain and all vital organs are so good for a serval to grow into a healthy animal instead of always having raw chicken legs hearts breasts and what not that who knows how long it has been dead and how much nutrients has been lost from it so even putting wild feline supplements/vitamins/calcium, they are not getting what they need to survive. These mice are bred to be eaten and sold as 'feeder mice' for snakes, lizards, and other wild animals to eat. Thank you to those who understand.

My daughter, as you see is still a little nervous around Zeus. He will love on her from time to time, surprisingly more often than he use to, but she doesn't want to be clawed or bitten or hit lol (servals love to smack things they are afraid of or unsure of, even if it is a backpack or a shopping bag or cleaning gloves or a stuffed animal or a hat or Beware of the evil vacuum!! lol) and out of our family, he never bonded completely with her, (not surprising because Servals usually bond to One or Two people their whole life) I am assuming because of three reasons 1. She is a kid (most servals aren't fond of children- they are too noisy or 'annoying' for them (my daughter is far from annoying, but i think its the energy kids have running around playing talking in a higher pitched voice.. etc) 2. She is gone every other week with her father so she never had the same amount of time my son and I have had to spend with him and 3. She isn't as confident in handling him because she gets nervous he will scratch or bite her (even in play a servals scratch or bite aren't puncturing or 'deadly' but they are strong- and to a child a strong play bite feels pretty rough) But Zeus is very well socialized, I honestly don't even remember the last time he played rough with her or even tried to nip or hit her lol but I encourage her to pet him and put good vibes and energy in the air for him to feel comfortable.

This is Zeus's FIRST TIME meeting a big dog! I was so proud of him and how he wasn't too scared or unfriendly. Knowing his personality, Zeus wanted to play with this boxer pup he was just nervous and unsure if he could trust that it wasnt going to hurt him. The boxer pup was very good (she is our neighbors dog) she was understanding of Zeus's space, wasn't scared of him, mean to him and wanted to play as well.
He is a domesticated Serval which means it is different than the Servals living in the wild in Africa. Even though these cats have the same DNA and look the same there are some differences. A Domesticated Serval has been domestically bred in captivity for multiple generations going back to the 1960's. None of the Serval cats you see in homes today were taken out of the wild. They have all been hand raised for years in loving homes. It does take a special educated open minded and patient animal person to own a Serval. A serval is a medium sized African species averaging 20-60lbs and standing 15-30 inches at the shoulder. The Serval has been domesticated for over 5000 years, the ancient Egyptians not only had these majestic cats as pets but they worshiped the serval for its grace and power. This is a highly intelligent animal and as a pet is very much dog like.
