3:09 During the first few years that Murdoch's ownership of Fox's DC affiliate, he had a hands-off approach to new content; partially due to their success. One day orders came from Murdoch's offices that the network should cut away from their regularly scheduled program and broadcast the RNC's fawning tribute to Reagan: "we were ordered, from the top, to carry propaganda; Republican, right-wing propaganda". It foreshadowed what Fox News would later become.
6:30 Former Fox News reporters and bookers say that they are afraid to be seen "talking to the wrong people". Working for Fox meant you were constantly being monitored. It created a culture of fear. If you challenged the heads of the network On ideological matters, you were history.
10:45 “Some People Say” – FOX uses the phrase "some people say" to mask opinion as news.
19:04 Fox News contributors are under paid contract for their appearance; if they deviate from the party lines, they might not get asked back onto shows.
21:22 Fox News went after Richard Clarke as soon as it was apparent that he was going to paint the Bush administration in a bad light. For Fox News, "mudding" arguments is almost as good as winning them. So, they didn't need to definitely prove that Clarke, a former member of the Bush Administration, was angling for a position in a Kerry Whitehouse, they just had to make it look like a possibility.
22:28 They put weak-looking , lesser known liberals up against photogenic, self-assured conservatives.
26:29 Republicans accounted for 83% of the guests while Democrats accounted for 17% of guest on the network's most prestigious show. Of those democrats, most were either centrist or conservative.
27:50 Stories they Cover...Stories they Ignore - Management set the tone for stories: Jesse Jackson was always to be painted in a negative light, as were immigrants. Culture war issues - abortion, affirmative action, gay marriage - were often covered while ignoring issues regarding the economy, health care, and the environment.
34:38 O'Reilly's show is a good example of everything that is wrong with Fox News --
Stories are selected to prop-up the Republican party and their point of view; O'Reilly is very hostile to guest who disagrees with him; and he distorts and misrepresent things.
42:00 Many Fox News stories are meant to generate fear; for example, stories about what to do if there's a "dirty bomb" attack. Fear is a great motivator and organizer; even when there is no real evidence for it. Terrorism is the ultimate fear-baiting; and when people are fearful, they are more likely to support military interventions. Talking about terrorism also means that you can avoid talking about other issues, like the economy.
46:29 Fox made the decision to present the Iraq war as a success. "The senior producer told the two or three writers for her news hour...'now, just keep in mind that it's all good. This is such a fair and balance issue. Keep it positive. We got to emphasize all the good we are doing".
48:43 Knowledge Networks Poll - It's a simple survey about fact regarding current events. The more likely people were to watch Fox News, the more misinformed they were and the more likely they were to back the Bush Administration.
50:49 Fox News repeats and propagates the Republican Party platform. It was widely known that the Fox reporter covering the 2000 Bush campaign was married to a Bush campaigner. This wouldn't have been allowed at CNN.
52:47 Election Night 2000 - The first guy to call the election for Bush was the head of Fox's New's election analyze division; Bush's first cousin. He called it a clear win, when in fact it was too close too call.
59:16 The Republican send out "the message of the day" so that conservative talk radio, Fox News, and Republican elected officials will all be talking about the same issues, in the same way.
58:41 2004 Election; coverage of Bush was always glowing, while Kerry was shown in a negative light.
1:02:51 During the 2004 election, Fox News painted a very rosy picture of the American economy and by selecting statistics which showed just that. Of course, they credited Bush for the "good" economy. When the stock market had a bad day, they claimed it was because of fear over the prospect of a Kerry presidency.
1:05:28 Murdoch is foremost a politician and this is what makes him dangerous.
1:06:57 The Fox Effect - It made other news organization more conservative because they saw how well Fox did.
1:09:13 A Call to Action - Media control is a political issue. People need to demand accuracy.

OBAMA "DOESN'T GIVE A SH*T ABOUT TERRORISM" - FOX's Stacey Dash
Fox News contributor Stacey Dash committed a big cable news no-no Monday afternoon, saying that President Barack Obama didn’t “give a shit” during his Sunday speech on terrorism.
“It’s ridiculous,” she said on Fox’s Outnumbered. “His speech was an epic fail. It was like when you have to go to dinner with your parents, but you have a party to go to afterwards, that’s what it felt like.”
“I did not feel any better. I didn’t feel any passion from him…” she continued. “I felt like he could give a shit– excuse me, like he could care less.” The Fox News censors were on point, however, and only the first part of the swear word made it on air.
Dash wasn’t even the first Fox contributor to use vulgar language on live television to attack the president Monday. Earlier, Fox’s Ralph Peters was chastised by Fox Business host Stuart Varney after he called Obama a “total pussy.”
On Monday, two Fox News contributors were suspended for using profanity while discussing President Barack Obama‘s Sunday night address from the Oval Office.
Ralph Peters a Fox Business “strategic analyst” who called Obama a “total pussy,” and Outnumbered contributor Stacey Dash, who said the president doesn’t “give a shit” about terrorism, were reprimanded for using profanities on the air. Their punishment? A two-week suspension.
“Earlier today, Fox contributors Lt. Col. Ralph Peters and Stacey Dash made comments on different programs that were completely inappropriate and unacceptable for our air,” Bill Shine, the EVP of programming at Fox said in a statement. “Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel do not condone the use of such language, and have suspended both Peters and Dash for two weeks.”
Dash’s remarks were appropriately censored during the broadcast, but Peters’ direct insult was not. Varney & Co. host Stuart Varney warned Peters about using profane language on the program immediately after.
Earlier this afternoon, Mediaite columnist Joe Concha demanded the pair’s suspension and called their outbursts “unprofessional.”
The White House has not commented on the matter.

The medicine prize, for helping discover drugs against malaria and other tropical diseases, was shared by Tu Youyou, the first-ever Chinese medicine laureate, with the other half going to Japanese microbiologist Satoshi Omura and William Campbell, an Irish-born US scientist.
Svetlana Alexievich, from Belarus, received this year’s literature prize – for her work on the Soviet Union and its successor states.

US air force pictures from the skies over Iraq give little idea of the effectiveness of air strikes against ISIL. The planes are here because something has been spotted, or intel is bringing them here to hit something specific.
Civilian casualties and doubts about its effectiveness lead many to question its use. But on Thursday success was in the air.
“In Iraq, we recently conducted strikes against three leaders in ISIL’s financial and leadership network. Their removal will degrade ISIL’s ability to finance their efforts,” said USAF Colonel Steve Warren.
One was described as a “legacy” al-Qaeda member and head of extortion, and another an executive officer. The financial officer was the third from the top echelon to be hit in recent months.

Earlybird Syrian refugees are arriving in small groups at Toronto airport, but Canada’s new prime minister will be there to welcome 2015’s first big flight on a military transport.
Justin Trudeau’s Liberals, elected in October, promised to scale up the previous government’s quota of 25,000, but the Paris attacks made it question Canada’s security readiness. Now it will be 10,000, with a further 15,000 by the end of February.
The pathfinders are 164 men, women and children, who after their first night in a hotel, meet their sponsors and support groups the following day.
In Beirut the Army’s processing centre and embassy officials are working overtime to ensure those accepted spend a happy Canadian New Year. With a similar centre in Jordan, military flights will provide the first push, but commercial flights will be phased in.
The next transport leaves here for Montreal on Sunday.

Argentina’s new president Mauricio Macri has taken up the reigns, heading up a country which is deeply divided.
His swearing-in has brought both his supporters and those of former leader Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner out onto the streets of Buenos Aires.
She snubbed all of the inauguration events, following weeks of bickering.
Minutes after centre-right Macri made a speech calling for national unity, groups representing both sides jeered each other in front of the Government House.
Macri’s supporters are pleased to see a new face at the top.
“This is why there is crime, because the government was an accomplice, an accomplice of the drug traffickers. With Macri, this will come to an end,” said supporter Agustin Toledo.
But for members of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo – whose children disappeared during the country’s dictatorship that began in the mid 1970s – Macri’s appointment is a mistake.
“Once again, the enemy will be inside Government House. For 12 years, he was not there,” said Hebe de Bonafini, from the group, who joined a march in Buenos Aires.
“He’s a man who believes the country is a company, a man whose speech is shameful and who uses the Supreme Court to give him his presidential attributes.”
Macri is Argentina’s first non-Peronist president in more than a decade. He has promised to end policies of leftist populism and revive the country’s ailing economy.

GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump stopped by Fox News Channel and CNN tonight to threaten to leave the party and run as an independent if he’s not “treated fairly” by Republican establishment.
“If I’m treated fairly, I would never do it. If I’m not treated fairly, I might very well do it,” he told Bill O’Reilly on FNC.
To CNN’s Don Lemon, Trump said a split with the GOP is “highly unlikely, unless they break the pledge to me.”
“It’s a two way street. They said they will be honorable,” Trump told Lemon, adding ominously, “So far, I can’t tell you if they are, but the establishment is not exactly being very good to me.”
Asked to elaborate, Trump said, “I’m leading in every poll – by a lot. It looks like I’m going to win. My whole life has been about winning. I’m not like so many of the other people that you to talk to that are essentially losers, okay? I know how to win. I intend to win. It’s ‘the best way of beating the Democrats if I get the nomination.”
Lemon naturally asked Trump to define being treated not fairly.

Unemployment in Greece fell slightly in September. Official figures put the rate at 24.6 percent, down a tenth of a percentage point from an upwardly revised 24.7 percent the previous month.
The jobless rate has come down from record highs during the worst of the recession but remains more than double the eurozone’s average.
The statistics agency Elstat also found that conditions for younger workers got tougher. The proportion of 15-24 year olds looking for work actually rose and stands at just under 50 percent.
A survey of Greek employers found slight grounds for optimism in the employment picture in the early part of 2016.
The Greek economy contracted further, by 0.9 percent, in the third quarter and is expected to shrink again by 0.7 percent next year.

The implementation of a ceasefire in the Syrian city of Homs has reportedly begun, with bus loads of people leaving the last rebel-held area.
Overseen by the UN, the halt in fighting was agreed some 10 days ago between the government and local insurgents.
Residents are hoping to soon return to their homes.
One man from the old city of Homs told reporters: “Everything is good. I’m a resident here and I’m thinking of opening my own shop here. I’m butcher, and as you can see, there’s a grocery shop and other shops. Everything is good and we hope it will stay like this.”
The evacuation deal is expected to see thousands of opposition fighters and civilians leave the last district of Homs still under rebel control.
On Monday authorities also released more than 30 opposition prisoners.

Turns out Ralph Peters wasn’t the only one today to give in to his anger and say something inappropriate. Stacey Dash was the other and both she and Peters have been suspended for two weeks:
CNN MONEY – Two Fox News commentators were suspended on Monday for using profanities while criticizing President Obama on Monday.

A couple of hours later Stacey Dash, a Fox contributor, said the president “didn’t give a sh–” about Sunday night’s terrorism speech.

“Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel do not condone the use of such language, and have suspended both Peters and Dash for two weeks,” he said.
According to CNN, Peters apologized for his comments on-air, but said his sentiment was shared by many:
“I do apologize for giving into my anger, but… I feel like you know the American people understand where I’m coming from on this,” Peters said. “My choice of words was incorrect, but my sentiment, I think, is shared by many.”
Oh he’s right about that. I think many share his sentiment. Personally though, I don’t share it. But that’s because I think Obama is way more intentional than he’s given credit for. I don’t think he operates so much out of fear, but rather design – his design.
By the way, here’s the video of Stacey Dash’s comments that go her in trouble – for as long as it lasts on YouTube:

UPDATE –– 5:15 pm EST: Fox’s own Howard Kurtz posted some criticism later in the day:

Voters have gone to the polls in Burkina Faso to choose the country’s first new president in decades.
The landmark election comes a year after longtime leader Blaise Compaore was toppled in a popular uprising.
People formed long lines at polling stations to vote for the president to serve for a five year term and deputies for the National Assembly.
Analysts say only two of the 14 presidential candidates stand a real chance of winning.
One is Roch Marc Kabore, prime minister and president of the National Assembly under Compaore. The other is Zephirin Diabre, who was minister of finance in the 1990s before stepping down to start an opposition party.
The poll represents a turning point for a West African nation which, for most of its history since independence from France in 1960, has been ruled by leaders who came to power in coups.
Compaore seized power by that route and ruled for 27 years, winning four elections – all of which were criticised as unfair. He was ousted in October 2014, when demonstrators protested against his attempt to change the constitution to extend his tenure.

Uganda with a trip to an Anglican shrine in Kampala. The sanctuary is dedicated to a group of Christians who were killed by decree of a local king who wanted to stem the rise of Christianity in the 19th century.
Ahead of the visit, he praised the Ugandan president and diplomats for their handling of refugees flocking into the country. Uganda has received half a million migrants from Somalia, Sudan and the Congo.
He referred to the world refugee crisis and said how the world deals with it will be “a test of our humanity, our respect for human dignity and above all our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in need.”
The next stop was a Catholic shrine in the capital, dedicated to 22 martyrs.
Thousands spent the night outside for
a glimpse of the pope and large screens were set up to view his mass.
Francis is the third pontiff to visit Uganda, where some forty percent of the population is Catholic.
Tens of thousands of people lined his route into the capital in the biggest crowds of his trip so far.
He will stay in Uganda until Sunday (November 29), when he will move on to the war-torn Central African Republic for the final leg of his three-nation, African tour.
The continent’s Catholic population is growing and is expected to reach around half a billion by 2050.

Republican Presidential Debate 2015 Full GOP Republican Debate FOX Business Network Full Republican Presidential Debate 2015 GOP Debate FOX Business Network All told, the candidates spent no time attacking a reasonably well-moderated debate, and although there were a few intra-candidate attacks, none seemed particularly notable. Marco Rubio was polished. Rand Paul played a bigger role than he has in previous debates. Donald Trump was relatively reserved. Ben Carson certainly helped himself with his performance. Carly Fiorina acquitted herself okay, too. I can't see this debate stopping Jeb Bush's slide or doing anything significant for John Kasich. On foreign policy, the interventionism of the field as a whole is intense. On domestic policy, all have aired tax plans that have no chance of becoming law. The winner: Americans, because this debate lasted about two rather than three hours. —Conor Friedersdorf
11:20 pm: Takeaway from Milwaukee: Brace for a new round of Rubio-rising stories. He came into this debate with momentum and he performed to expectations. His trendline is up and will keep going up, though questions remain about his ability to turn elite opinion into votes. Jeb was practically a nonfactor. He is just not good at this, and besides a couple of prescripted answers, he did nothing to stand out. The Jeb-death-watch narrative will also continue after this. Trump was sort of subdued, but he's never that good in debates. Same with Carson—his voters don't care that he's borderline incoherent on any substantive questions. Kasich, as usually, seems to have infuriated base conservatives while appealing to moderates and liberal Republicans. Cruz was also strong. Like the last debate, he and Rubio are going to get the buzz out of this.
In a lot of ways this debate ratifies the status quo going in. No game-changers in that sense. Rand Paul showed up for the first time, but it's not clear he has much of a constituency in this party. —Molly Ball
11:18 pm: At the start of the debate, I wondered whether Jeb Bush’s decision to hire a media trainer would show on the debate stage and it did, a little bit. Bush’s delivery seems to have improved, but maybe not enough to get him out of his low polling digits. Meanwhile, Marco Rubio again delivered a strong performance. What the two didn’t do is go head-to-head like they had in the last Republican debate. Maybe because doing so just wouldn’t work. It certainly didn’t for Bush then and it’s unlikely it would have for Rubio tonight. And it also may answer the question my colleague Russell Berman noted earlier: Will Bush leave his Super PAC to do the dirty work? Looks like that’s a strong possibility. —Priscilla Alvarez
11:16 pm: Trump: "I'm self-funding my campaign...the United States can be better than ever before." —Molly Ball
11:15 pm: Rubio: "The 21st century can be a new American century." —Molly Ball
11:15 pm: Rubio, remembering why he's here tonight, unlike some of his competitors: "I ask you for your vote." —Marina Koren
11:14 pm: Cruz: "If we get back to the free-market principles and constitutional liberties that built this country, we can turn this nation around." —Molly Ball
11:13 pm: In contrast, Spain needs a divider-in-chief to amicably part with the Catalonians and Basques. —Conor Friedersdorf

I never liked Glenn Beck much, but it is quite a coincidence that he comes out with the real truth about the private Federal Reserve, and then loses his show on Fox News. Like Ron Paul always says, the Fed is the true facilitator of big government. They could never tax enough, or borrow enough to pay for the wars and corporate welfare without the printing press and world reserve currency status. Do your own research; read G. Edward Griffin's classic "The Creature from Jekyll Island." The creation of the Fed WAS A CONSPIRACY. No theorizing needed. Our forefathers fought since the founding to deny the bankers a monopoly over the control of currency and credit. We have fallen under the control of the banking establishment, and they have tied their fraudulent debt to the fiscal wellbeing of America.
If you consider yourself a proponent of limited, Constitutional government, you have an obligation to fight the Federal Reserve. The neocon talkers like Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Ingraham, and even Savage will not explain the truth. While popular outrage is focused at the Fed, the neocons are trying RIGHT NOW to shift the focus to Chinese policy and their alleged (get this) currency manipulation! Ever heard of QE2?

Like many others, I stood in front of my TV that morning and tried to make sense of what was happening. It eventually occurred to me to put a tape in the VCR and start recording. I decided I wanted a record of how the different news outlets presented the events of that day.
From 11:12 am CST until about 9:53 pm I recorded different channels. I've included timecode that closely corresponds to the actual time of the broadcast.
It is my hope that people will appreciate this account in it's historical perspective: how 24 hour news networks presented the events, the timing of new information, the chaos and emotions, and the rush to determine the culprits.
I ask that viewers be involved in helping me make the important moments more accessible to others by providing timecode links in the comments. I will then take these and add them to this description.

The Fox News Channel has been accused by academics, media figures, political figures, and watchdog groups of having various biases in their news coverage as well as more general views of a conservative bias. Fox News has publicly denied such charges, stating that the reporters in the newsroom provide separate, neutral reporting.
At times, the accusations of bias have led to back and forth conflicts between Fox commentators and political and media figures. For example, in 2009 the Fox News Channel engaged in a verbal conflict with the Obama administration.
