Mary Elizabeth "Tipper" Gore (née Aitcheson; born August 19, 1948) is an author, photographer, former second lady of the United States, and the estranged wife of Al Gore. She is known for her role in the Parents Music Resource Center criticizing record covers featuring "profane language", especially in the heavy metal and rap genres.
Born Mary Elizabeth Aitcheson in Washington, D.C., Tipper Gore is the daughter of John Kenneth "Jack" Aitcheson, Jr., a plumbing-supply entrepreneur, and his first wife, Margaret Ann (née Carlson) Odom (who lost her first husband during World War II). Her nickname, Tipper, derives from the lullaby "Tippy, Tippy, Tin", originally sung in the 1940 Our Gang short "All About Hash" by child actress Janet Burston. Her ancestry includes English, Scottish, German, and Swedish. Gore grew up in Arlington, Virginia. Her parents divorced and she was raised by her mother and grandmother.
She attended St. Agnes (now St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School), a private Episcopal school in Alexandria, Virginia, where she excelled in athletics and played the drums for an all-girl band, The Wildcats.

Jello Biafra (born Eric Reed Boucher; June 17, 1958, Boulder, Colorado) is an American musician, spoken word artist and leading figure of the Green Party of the United States. Biafra first gained attention as the lead singer and songwriter for San Francisco punk rock band Dead Kennedys. After he left the band, he took over the influential independent record label Alternative Tentacles, which he had co-founded in 1979 with Dead Kennedys bandmate East Bay Ray. Although now focused primarily on spoken word, he has continued as a musician in numerous collaborations.
Politically, Biafra is a member of the Green Party of the United States and actively supports various political causes. He ran for the party's Presidential nomination in 2000, finishing second to Ralph Nader. He is a staunch believer in free society, which is not to be confused with libertarianism or voluntary society (voluntaryism), who utilizes shock value and advocates direct action and pranksterism in the name of political causes. Biafra is known to use absurdist media tactics, in the leftist tradition of the Yippies, to highlight issues of civil rights and social justice.

Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993) was an American composer, singer-songwriter, electric guitarist, recording engineer, record producer and film director. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Zappa wrote rock, jazz, orchestral and musique concrète works. He also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers. Zappa produced almost all of the more than 60 albums he released with the band The Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist. While in his teens, he acquired a taste for percussion-based avant-garde composers such as Edgard Varèse and 1950s rhythm and blues music. He began writing classical music in high school, while at the same time playing drums in rhythm and blues bands; he later switched to electric guitar.
He was a self-taught composer and performer, and his diverse musical influences led him to create music that was often impossible to categorize. His 1966 debut album with The Mothers of Invention, Freak Out!, combined songs in conventional rock and roll format with collective improvisations and studio-generated sound collages. His later albums shared this eclectic and experimental approach, irrespective of whether the fundamental format was one of rock, jazz or classical. His lyrics—often humorously—reflected his iconoclastic view of established social and political processes, structures and movements. He was a strident critic of mainstream education and organized religion, and a forthright and passionate advocate for freedom of speech, self-education, political participation and the abolition of censorship.

The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) was an American committee formed in 1985 with the stated goal of increasing parental control over the access of children to music deemed to be violent, have drug use or be sexual via labeling and censorship. The committee was founded by four women: Tipper Gore, wife of Senator and later Vice President Al Gore; Susan Baker, wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker; Pam Howar, wife of Washington realtor Raymond Howar; and Sally Nevius, wife of former Washington City Council Chairman John Nevius. They were known as the "Washington wives" -- a reference to their husbands' connections with government in the Washington, D.C. area. In August 1985, 19 record companies agreed to put "Parental Guidance: Explicit Lyrics" labels on albums to warn of explicit lyrical content. Before the labels could be put into place, the Senate agreed to hold a hearing on so-called "porn rock". This began on September 19, 1985, when representatives from the PMRC, three musicians -- Dee Snider, Frank Zappa, John Denver -- and Senators Paula Hawkins and Al Gore testified before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on "the subject of the content of certain sound recordings and suggestions that recording packages be labeled to provide a warning to prospective purchasers of sexually explicit or other potentially offensive content." During his statement, musician and producer Frank Zappa asserted that "the PMRC proposal is an ill-conceived piece of nonsense which fails to deliver any real benefits to children, infringes the civil liberties of people who are not children, and promises to keep the courts busy for years dealing with the interpretation and enforcement problems inherent in the proposal's design." The committee was founded by four women: Tipper Gore, wife of Senator and later Vice President Al Gore; Susan Baker, wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker; Pam Howar, wife of Washington realtor Raymond Howar; and Sally Nevius, wife of former Washington City Council Chairman John Nevius. They were known as the "Washington wives" -- a reference to their husbands' connections with government in the Washington, D.C. area. In August 1985, 19 record companies agreed to put "Parental Guidance: Explicit Lyrics" labels on albums to warn of explicit lyrical content. Before the labels could be put into place, the Senate agreed to hold a hearing on so-called "porn rock". This began on September 19, 1985, when representatives from the PMRC, three musicians -- Dee Snider, Frank Zappa, John Denver -- and Senators Paula Hawkins and Al Gore testified before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on "the subject of the content of certain sound recordings and suggestions that recording packages be labeled to provide a warning to prospective purchasers of sexually explicit or other potentially offensive content." During his statement, musician and producer Frank Zappa asserted that "the PMRC proposal is an ill-conceived piece of nonsense which fails to deliver any real benefits to children, infringes the civil liberties of people who are not children, and promises to keep the courts busy for years dealing with the interpretation and enforcement problems inherent in the proposal's design."

Although she came to the prom with one of his classmates, Gore and Tipper began to date immediately afterwards.[5] When Gore began attending Harvard University, she enrolled in Garland Junior College (now part of Simmons College) and later transferred to Boston University, receiving her B.A. in psychology in 1970.[6][7] Gore pursued a master's degree in psychology from George Peabody College, graduating in 1975.[8] She then worked part-time as a newspaper photographer until her husband was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1976. In 1982, she resumed her photography career, working part-time for[9] Quarante Magazine (1982--1985) published by Kathleen Katz of Arlington.[2]

He was the captain of the football team, threw discus for the track and field team, and participated in basketball, art, and government. He graduated 25th in his class of 51, applied to only one college, Harvard, and was accepted.
He met Mary Elizabeth "Tipper" Aitcheson from the nearby St. Agnes School at his St. Albans senior prom in 1965.[17] Tipper followed Gore to Boston to attend college,[16] and on May 19, 1970, shortly after Tipper graduated from Boston University, they married at the Washington National Cathedral.[16][24][25][26]
They have four children, Karenna (b. 1973), Kristin Carlson Gore (b. 1977), Sarah LaFon Gore (b. 1979), and Albert Gore III (b. 1982).[2]
In early June 2010, shortly after purchasing a new home,[27] the Gores announced in an e-mail to friends that after "long and careful consideration," they had made a mutual decision to separate.[28]
Gore enrolled in Harvard College in 1965, initially planning to major in English and write novels, but later deciding to major in government.[21][22] On his second day on campus, he began campaigning for the freshman student government council, and was elected its president.[22]
Although he was an avid reader who fell in love with scientific and mathematical theories,[22] he did not do well in science classes in college, and avoided taking math.[21] His grades during his first two years put him in the lower one-fifth of the class. During his sophomore year, he reportedly spent much of his time watching television, shooting pool, and occasionally smoking marijuana.[21][22] In his junior and senior years, he became more involved with his studies, earning As and Bs.[21] In his senior year, he took a class with oceanographer and global warming theorist Roger Revelle, who sparked Gore's interest in global warming and other environmental issues.[22][29] Gore earned an A on his thesis, "The Impact of Television on the Conduct of the Presidency, 1947-1969", and graduated with an A.B. cum laude in June 1969.[21][30]
Gore attended college during the era of anti Vietnam War protests. Molly Hagerty, whose 2006 claim that Al Gore attempted to have sex with her in Portland, Oregon, recently came to light, insists her tawdry tale is true.
"Al Gore is a pervert and sexual predator," the red-headed 54-year-old massage therapist tells the National Enquirer in an exclusive interview that hits stands on Thursday. "He's not what people think he is - he's a sick man!"
Hagerty tells the supermarket tabloid she has video surveillance and DNA evidence that her will support her claims regarding her touchy-feely experience with Gore.
The story broke last week, and soon after Portland police released their report on the incident, which Hagerty claims took place in a posh hotel on Oct. 24, 2006.
According to the transcript, Hagerty told police that Gore, who was in town to speak about climate change, was looking for a "happy ending" to their massage session. When she refused, he attempted to have it his way with her.
Police ultimately dropped tis investigation and no charges were ever pressed due to lack of evidence, and because Hagerty repeatedly cancelled follow-up interviews.

When Tipper Gore was a Senator's wife she toured the country promoting the PMRC & demanding a rating for system for music, which doesn't seem so bad now but pissed me off then. I got a call asking for representatives of the music industry to come & dialogue with Tipper, & it was early in the morning. I made it to the TV studios in Needham by 8am but when they announced the last commercial break there was no sign of any 'dialogue' so I asked a producer when I got to talk to Mrs. Gore. I'm not a 'morning person' & besides having my sweatshirt on backwards & inside out I hadn't thought I'd be getting a single question, & I was much less articulate than I would have liked to be. Mrs. Gore stood atop the 40-foot National Christmas Tree in front of the White House Monday, with the help of a hydraulic crane, to put in place the first ornament.
Placing the star on the tree is the first in a series of decorations and events surrounding America's official holiday tree, finishing with the lighting of the tree on December 5th.
Tipper Gore rode to the top of the 40-foot (13-metre) Colorado blue spruce with John Betchkal, president of the charity organization Pageant of Peace, Inc.
The tree, on the Ellipse behind the White House, was already partially decorated with gold garlands and hundreds of tiny lights.
Mrs. Gore, with Betchkal's help, planted the four-pointed, gold-trimmed star safely on top of the tree and waved to the onlookers below.
After posing with National Park Service workers who helped prepare the tree, Mrs. Gore joined local children to plant a spruce tree along the Pathway of Peace that encircles the National Tree.
That smaller tree comes from her home state of Tennessee.
The annual ornament event begins the decorating period for the 1996 Christmas Pageant of Peace.
The tree is set to be garbed in more than 95,000 red white and green lights interwoven with pine roping, and skirted in red to look like a giant toy drum, according to the Park Service.
Lights for the National Tree are to be switched on in a nationally- televised event, with President Clinton and the first family as host, on December 5th.

Mrs. Gore, with Betchkal's help, planted the four-pointed, gold-trimmed star safely on top of the tree and waved to the onlookers below.
After posing with National Park Service workers who helped prepare the tree, Mrs. Gore joined local children to plant a spruce tree along the Pathway of Peace that encircles the National Tree.
That smaller tree comes from her home state of Tennessee.
The annual ornament event begins the decorating period for the 1996 Christmas Pageant of Peace.
The tree is set to be garbed in more than 95,000 red white and green lights interwoven with pine roping, and skirted in red to look like a giant toy drum, according to the Park Service.
Lights for the National Tree are to be switched on in a nationally- televised event, with President Clinton and the first family as host, on December 5th.

With her, she brought blankets, sheets and 500 gallons (19-hundred litres) of drinking water for the thousands of people trying to recover from the ravages of hurricane Mitch.
After the horrendous devastation wrought by Hurricane Mitch, the people of Central America are trying to rebuild their lives.
The name of this camp - 'The Neighbourhood of New Life' - is an indication of the faith and hope of those who live here.
They are all survivors from the foothills of La Casitas - the volcano whose crater cracked sending huge quantities of mud hurtling down its slopes.
Now the refugees have erected these makeshift shelters on higher ground, away from the danger.
They desperately need help from the international community.
On Wednesday Tipper Gore made it a priority to stop at this camp, 20 miles (32 kms) from Managua, during her aid tour of Central America.
Hundreds of children swarmed around the wife of the U-S Vice President on her arrival.
Gore is representing President Bill Clinton, and she is speaking to him on a regular basis to let him know what is needed in the tragedy-hit region.
She spent several hours at the camp.

The wife of U-S Vice-President Al Gore has arrived in Nicaragua with medical aid and the promise of another 10 (m) million dollars for hurricane-battered Central America.
Tipper Gore flew into the capital Managua on Wednesday after visiting neighbouring Honduras.
With her, she brought blankets, sheets and 500 gallons (19-hundred litres) of drinking water for the thousands of people trying to recover from the ravages of hurricane Mitch.
Tipper Gore landed in Nicaragua aboard Air Force Two.
She was greeted by government officials, aid workers and a throng of reporters.
Gore promised long-term U-S commitment to rebuilding the battered region, with manpower to help repair roads and bridges, and to ensure fuel and food is sent to stricken towns.
She pledged another 10 (m) million dollars in aid for various projects, in addition to the 70 (m) million dollars already promised to Central America.
Gore also said U-S first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton would visit the devastated region next week.

A 40-foot Colorado spruce, the tree will be the centre of a Pageant of Peace celebration in the U-S capital.
The community-sponsored event involves thousands of coloured lights and holiday decorations and will be officially kicked-off by President Bill Clinton's lighting of the tree next week.
The wife of U-S Vice President Al Gore placed the top-most ornament on the National Christmas Tree in Washington DC on Thursday.
With the tree topping, Tipper Gore helped signal preparations for the opening of the Pageant of Peace display of holiday decorations.
The 1999 Pageant of Peace is a community-sponsored event, which features displays for the holiday season centered on the National Christmas Tree.
The tree has traditionally adorned the Ellipse in front of the White House every holiday season.
It is a living 40-foot Colorado blue spruce, transplanted from Pennsylvania to the Ellipse in 1978.
There are 75-thousand Christmas lights placed on the giant tree, which took two weeks to decorate.
Gore placed the topper with the help of Peter Nostrand, president of the Christmas Pageant of Peace, and two children from the Washington area.
The children were selected to help top the tree because their primary school in Maryland helped raise money to benefit the homeless.
The 76th lighting of the National Christmas Tree will take place on December 8th on the Ellipse.
The ceremony has been a tradition since 1923 when Calvin Coolidge was president.
It will officially kick off the Pageant of Peace, which features another 56 elaborately decorated Christmas trees, representing the 50 American states and six territories.
Each of the 56 trees will have decorations from the region it represents.
The trees will be displayed on a "Pathway of Peace" near the National Christmas Tree.
The National Christmas tree will remain lighted through to January 2nd this year to help celebrate the millennium.
At midnight on December 31st, the multi-coloured lights on the tree will switch to all white.

Dug this out for my 1000th Youtube video. When Tipper Gore was a Senator's wife she toured the country promoting the PMRC & demanding a rating for system for music, which doesn't seem so bad now but pissed me off then. I got a call asking for representatives of the music industry to come & dialogue with Tipper, & it was early in the morning. I made it to the TV studios in Needham by 8am but when they announced the last commercial break there was no sign of any 'dialogue' so I asked a producer when I got to talk to Mrs. Gore. I'm not a 'morning person' & besides having my sweatshirt on backwards & inside out I hadn't thought I'd be getting a single question, & I was much less articulate than I would have liked to be. But at least I showed up, which was good because none of the other invited musicians or industry people did. Question authority! And don't say nasty stuff about Black Sabbath.

In 1985, a Senate hearing was instigated by the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), who wanted to introduce a parental warning system that would label all albums containing offensive material. The system was to include letters identifying the type of objectionable content to be found in each album (e.g. O for occult themes, S for sex, D for drugs, V for violence, etc.). Dee Snider, John Denver, and Frank Zappa all testified against censorship and the proposed warning system. CSPAN presented this almost raw footage from the Gore-Leiberman campaign trail in 2000. A bubbly and vivacious Mrs. Al Gore (Tipper) is hosted by New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial, and together they open the campaign HQ in N.O. But first they have a party on-board a RTA streetcar. Donna Brazile figures prominently in this as well. Lots of reporters and locals meet her at arranged stops including the trolley barn. Later there is a campaign rally downtown and Al comes out and tears down the house! AG so should have been sitting in that oval office but for hundreds of tiny tiny factors that added up to an electoral loss as decided by the Supreme court weeks after the election was over with, Al still got the majority of votes. Nonetheless, this day- at the end of the American Century - shows a happy US heartland city and should not be forgotten. Betsy Bitch is America’s whip-cracking pioneer for women in heavy rock music. She is best known as the lady frontman of the Los Angeles-based heavy metal band Bitch. Betsy has also worked with veteran Sunset Strip metal band Witch, and used to front the second-wave ska band The Boxboys.
Bitch has the distinction of being the first woman-fronted American metal band to ever be signed to a label, as well as the first band to release an album on the legendary Metal Blade Records. Bitch would keep a steady profile throughout the eighties in the face of consistent disdain for woman-fronted heavy bands, proving that women can rock just as hard as their male counterparts.

One of Metal Blade Record’s original bands, Bitch, is back with a special CD/DVD re-issue. The band’s classic album, Be My Slave, which could be seen in the hands of Tipper Gore as she campaigned to save our children throughout the 80s, has been repackaged with the Damnation Alley EP and a live DVD. The DVD includes Bitch’s performance at the Keep It True Festival in Germany in April of 2011, along with a myriad of early 80s live performance and cable access footage. This is a must for die-hard fans and 80s metal connoisseurs.

Betsy Bitch is America’s whip-cracking pioneer for women in heavy rock music. She is best known as the lady frontman of the Los Angeles-based heavy metal band Bitch. Betsy has also worked with veteran Sunset Strip metal band Witch, and used to front the second-wave ska band The Boxboys.
Bitch has the distinction of being the first woman-fronted American metal band to ever be signed to a label, as well as the first band to release an album on the legendary Metal Blade Records. Bitch would keep a steady profile throughout the eighties in the face of consistent disdain for woman-fronted heavy bands, proving that women can rock just as hard as their male counterparts.
