The History of Rome, the Holy City (Documentary)
Rome is the capital of Italy and also of the Province of Rome and of the region of Lazio. With 2.7 million residents in 1,285.3 km2 (496.3 sq mi), it is also the country's largest and most populated comune and fourth-most populous city in the European Union by population within city limits. The urban area of Rome extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of around 3.8 million. Between 3.2 and 4.2 million people live in Rome metropolitan area. The city is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, on the Tiber within Lazio (Latium). The Vatican City is an independent country within the city boundaries of Rome, the only example of a country within a city existing.
Rome's history spans more than two and a half thousand years, since its legendary founding in 753 BC. Rome is one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in Europe. It is referred to as "The Eternal City", a notion expressed by ancient Roman poets and writers. In the ancient world it was successively the capital city of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, and is regarded as one of the birthplaces of Western civilization. Since the 1st century AD, Rome has been considered the seat of the Papacy and in the 8th century it became the capital of the Papal States, which lasted until 1870. In 1871 Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, and in 1946 that of the Italian Republic.
After the Middle Ages, Rome was ruled by popes such as Alexander VI and Leo X, who transformed the city into one of the major centers of the Italian Renaissance along with Florence. The current version of St Peter's Basilica was built and the Sistine Chapel was painted by Michelangelo. Famous artists and architects, such as Bramante, Bernini and Raphael, resided for some time in Rome, contributing to its Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
Rome has a status of the global city. In 2007, Rome was the 11th-most-visited city in the world, 3rd most visited in the European Union, and the most popular tourist attraction in Italy. Its historic centre is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Monuments and museums such as the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum are among the world's most visited tourist destinations with both locations receiving millions of tourists a year. Rome hosted the 1960 Summer Olympics.

The Papal States were territories in the Italian Peninsula under the sovereign direct rule of the pope, from the 700s until 1870. They were among the major states of Italy from roughly the eighth century until the Italian Peninsula was unified in 1861 by the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. At their zenith, they covered most of the modern Italian regions of Lazio (which includes most of Rome), Marche, Umbria and Romagna, as well as portions of Emilia. These holdings were considered to be a manifestation of the temporal power of the pope, as opposed to his ecclesiastical primacy. After 1861 the Papal States, reduced to Lazio, continued to exist until 1870. Between 1870 and 1929 the Pope had no physical territory at all. Eventually Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini solved the crisis between modern Italy and the Vatican, and in 1929 the Vatican City State was granted sovereignty.

2. SOUNDBITE: (French) Pope Benedict XVI
(answering question about France being a secular state)
"It seems obvious to me that today secularism in itself is not necessarily in contradiction with faith. I would even say it is a result of the faith because Christian faith has been since the beginning a universal religion, so not identifiable with a state, and present in every state and different from the states. So for the Christians it was always clear that religion and faith are not part of politics but in another sphere of human life. And as far as politics is concerned, the state is not a religion but a secular reality with a specific mission."

4. SOUNDBITE: (French) Pope Benedict XVI:
"I wouldn't dare to say I know France well. I know it a bit. But I love France, the great French culture, especially of course the big cathedrals and also the great French art."
5. Pan from journalists on board to Pope

(answering question about his forthcoming visit to Lourdes)
"The day of the feast of Saint Bernadette is also the day of my birth so because of that I feel very close to this little saint, to this little girl, young, pure, humble, with whom our Virgin Mary has spoken. So for me experiencing this reality, this presence of the Virgin Mary, to see the traces of this little girl who was a friend of the Virgin, and to see the Virgin, the mother, is a very important event. Of course we will not find miracles. I want to find the love of the mother which is the real cure for all disease, all the pains and I want to stick together with all the people who are suffering, in the love of the mother. That seems to me very important for our epoch."
7. Pope hands back microphone to priest, turns and walks away down aisle of plane
STORYLINE:
Pope Benedict XVI spoke to journalists who were travelling with him on the plane from Rome to Paris on Friday morning, where he was heading for a four-day trip - his first to France as pontiff - that will take him from the presidential Elysee Palace in Paris to the Roman Catholic shrine in Lourdes.
On the plane, Benedict was asked about France's long tradition of separating church and state, and said that secularism "in itself is not necessarily in contradiction with faith."
"I would even say it is a result of the faith," he went on, "because Christian faith has been since the beginning a universal religion so not identifiable with a state, and present in every state and different from the states. So for the Christians it was always clear that religion and faith are not part of politics but in an other sphere of human life."
But politics and religion must be open to each other he added.
Benedict said he was very excited about his forthcoming visit to the Lourdes, because Saint Bernadette, which the shrine honours, shares her feast day with the Pontiff's birthday.
"Because of that I feel very close to this little saint, to this little girl, young, pure, humble, with whom our Virgin Mary has spoken. So for me experiencing this reality, this presence of the Virgin Mary, to see the traces of this little girl who was a friend of the Virgin, and to see the Virgin, the mother (Mary), is a very important event."
Benedict was greeted by President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, at a Paris airport, and later in Paris, the pope was due to address a gathering including Muslim leaders.
Traditionally Roman Catholic France is wrestling with its changing religious landscape, and how to reconcile it with the secularism that underpins the modern French Republic.

The Vatican finalized Pope Francis’ tour of Washington DC, New York and Philadelphia in January 2015.
Aleteia's @popeishope Digital Street Team had been preparing for his visit weeks before his arrival. Our Video Team didn’t commit to this video until the morning he arrived in DC.
Sure, we liked the story of these social media-savvy Millennials using the pope’s visit to demonstrate how #GoodIsWinning. But we found ourselves dwelling on the reasons not to get involved. It was a last-minute decision and we were short on manpower. Access would be a pain. Navigating the pope’s itinerary would be a nightmare.
It also didn’t help I’m not at all religious and don’t always mesh with the personalities these sorts of events tend to attract.
One thing that kept us from saying “no” was this cheesy, inexcusable feeling this was once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.*
That night, we found ourselves in DC sitting with a dozen Digital Street Team members as they finalized their plan of attack. Sure enough, one was a priest, making him the first priest I’ve ever met below the age of 60. A Millennial priest.
He corrected me: At 34, he technically fell outside the Millennial threshold but joked no one had to know that little detail. And it really did feel like a little detail as we watched him tweet bytes about the pope to his almost 33,000 followers (about 32,900 more than myself).

He enjoys causing trouble for the New World Order, exposing corrupt scumbag politicians, and pointing out Big Brother's prying eyes. The term "fighting the New World Order" is used by Mark to describe some of his activities, and refers to his and others' resistance and opposition (The Resistance) to the overall system of political corruption, illegal wars, elite secret societies, mainstream media, Big Brother and privacy issues; as well as various economic and social issues. This Resistance involves self-improvement, self-sufficiency, personal responsibility and spiritual growth.

Game: Medieval 2: Total War
Subject: How to get to North America
Note: Available in 720p and 1080p
========================================================
Confirmation: All factions can sail to America + From America. EXCEPT Rebels, Mongols, Timurids, and Aztecs (Although Aztecs is unplayable, it can't travel to Europe)
Following factions for Carrack: The Byzantium Empire, Denmark, England, France, Holy Roman Empire, Hungary, Milan, Papal States, Russia, Scotland, Sicily, Spain, Portugal, and Venice.
Following factions for the Baghlah: The Turks, Moors, and Egypt.
Following advance factions for the Caravel and the Grand Carrack: Portugal and Spain only!
This video is a small guide on how to get to America. It is easy to get to America; you just need to...waste A lot of "Turn."
========================================================
Step 1) Make sure that a city/castle near the ocean/sea is a Citadel (castle) or a Huge City (city/village). Also read all the steps and the notes at the bottom.
Step 2) In the meantime, make sure a city/castle near the ocean/sea has the latest upgraded Dock. Which would be a Dockyard.
Step 3) While doing Step 1 & 2, keep on playing til you reach "Turn" 140 - 180ish
Step 4) Once you encounter the "World is Round" event, upgrade your Dockyard to a Naval Drydock (I usually call this Naval Dockyard).
Step 5) Build a Carrack [Muslim/Islam factions - Instead of Carrack, is it called a Baghlah].
Step 6) Travel straight to North America [by heading to the left. You can't waypoint straight to America/Black fog of war, so the ships have to move in little by little].
========================================================
Note: Only the latest ships "Carrack/Baghlah/Grand Carrack/Caravel" can travel to America.
Note: You might encounter certain events on different "Turn." For example, three players encountered "Gunpowder Discovered" event on turn 70, 75, 76. Not on the same turn, but you can see that they are close.

Rome (/ˈroʊm/; Italian: Roma pronounced [ˈroːma] ( listen); Latin: Rōma) is a city and special comune (named "Roma Capitale") in Italy. Rome is the capital of Italy and also of the Province of Rome and of the region of Lazio. With 2.9 million residents in 1,285.3 km2 (496.3 sq mi), it is also the country's largest and most populated comune and fourth-most populous city in the European Union by population within city limits. The urban area of Rome extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of around 3.8 million.[2] Between 3.2 and 4.2 million people live in Rome metropolitan area.[3][4][5][6][7] The city is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within Lazio (Latium), along the shores of Tiber river. Vatican City is an independent country within the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city: for this reason Rome has been often defined as capital of two states.[8][9]
Rome's history spans more than two and a half thousand years, since its legendary founding in 753 BC. Rome is one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in Europe. It is referred to as "The Eternal City" (Latin: Roma Aeterna), a central notion in ancient Roman culture.[10] In the ancient world it was successively the capital city of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, and is regarded as one of the birthplaces of Western civilization. Since the 1st century AD, Rome has been considered the seat of the Papacy and in the 8th century it became the capital of the Papal States, which lasted until 1870. In 1871 Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, and in 1946 that of the Italian Republic.
After the Middle Ages, almost all the popes since Nicholas V (1422–55) pursued coherently along four hundred years an architectonic and urbanistic program aimed to make of the city the world`s artistic and cultural center.[11] Due to that, Rome became first one of the major centers of the Italian Renaissance along with Florence,[12] and then the birthplace of Baroque style. Famous artists and architects, such as - to name just a few - Bramante, Michelangelo, Raphael and Bernini, made of the city the center of their activity, creating masterpieces like St Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, Raphael Rooms and St. Peter's Square.
Rome has the status of a global city.[13][14][15] In 2011, Rome was the 18th-most-visited city in the world, 3rd most visited in the European Union, and the most popular tourist attraction in Italy.[16] Its historic centre is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.[17] Monuments and museums such as the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum are among the world's most visited tourist destinations with both locations receiving millions of tourists a year. Rome hosted the 1960 Summer Olympics and is the seat of United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
Etymology
About the origin of the name Roma several hypotheses have been advanced.[18] The most important are the following:
From Rumon or Rumen, archaic name of the Tiber, which in turn has the same root as the Greek verb ῥέω (rhèo) and the Latin verb ruo, which both mean "flow";[19]
From the Etruscan word ruma, whose root is *rum- "teat", with possible reference either to the totem wolf that adopted and suckled the cognately named twins Romulus and Remus, or to the shape of the Palatine and Aventine Hills;
From the Greek word ῤώμη (rhōmē), which means strength.[20]
History
Main articles: History of Rome and Timeline of Rome history
Earliest history
Main article: Founding of Rome
There is archaeological evidence of human occupation of the Rome area from approximately 14,000 years ago, but the dense layer of much younger debris obscures Palaeolithic and Neolithic sites.[21] Evidence of stone tools, pottery and stone weapons attest to about 10,000 years of human presence. Several excavations support the view that Rome grew from pastoral settlements on the Palatine Hill built above the area of the future Roman Forum. While some archaeologists argue that Rome was indeed founded in the middle of the 8th century BC (the date of the tradition), the date is subject to controversy.[22] However, the power of the well known tale of Rome's legendary foundation tends to deflect attention from its actual, and much more ancient, origins.

Take a tour of Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires, Argentina - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The office of the president of the United States is known for its whitewashed exterior, much as Argentina's is known for its rosy walls.
The Casa Rosada, meaning Pink House, in Buenos Aires, is the beautiful presidential palace of this country.
Designed in the Italian style, this magnificent building was constructed between 1882 and 1898 on the site of an old fort.
Because of its fame as a national monument, there is a museum here of items belonging to and associated with Argentina's presidents.
The official office chair of the president is named after and represents Argentina's first president.
The impetus for the Pink House began when a former President felt that the state house was being overshadowed by the adjacent grand post office building.

September 26, 2011. (Romereports.com) Even though the pope just got back from his four day trip to Germany, his eyes are already set on his next international trip to Africa. From November 18th to the 20th, the pope will visit the country of Benin to meet with African bishops.
Two years ago, their Synod took place. So, during his visit, the pope plans to deliver the post Synodal exhortation to the group, which it use as a guide in the coming years.
During his visit, the pope will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Benin's evangelization. He will also honor the life and work of local cardinal Bernardin Gantin, who served as the Dean of the College of Cardinals for much of John Paul II's pontificate.
Benin (formerly, Dahomey), officially the Republic of Benin, is a country in West Africa. It borders Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east and Burkina Faso and Niger to the north. Its small southern coastline on the Bight of Benin is where a majority of the population is located. The capital of Benin is Porto-Novo, but the seat of government is located in the country's largest city of Cotonou. Benin covers an area of approximately 110,000 square kilometers (42,000 sq mi), with a population of approximately 9.05 million. Benin is a tropical, sub-Saharan nation, highly dependent on agriculture, with substantial employment and income arising from subsistence farming.
The official language of Benin is French, however, indigenous languages such as Fon and Yoruba are commonly spoken. The largest religious group in Benin is Roman Catholicism, followed closely by Muslims, Vodun, and Protestants. Benin is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone, La Francophonie, the Community of Sahel-Saharan States, the African Petroleum Producers Association and the Niger Basin Authority.
From the 17th century to the 19th century, the land of current-day Benin was ruled by the Kingdom of Dahomey. The region became known as the Slave Coast during the early 17th century due to the prevalence of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. In 1892, with the slave trade banned and regional power diminishing, France took over the area and renamed it French Dahomey. In 1960, Dahomey gained full independence from France, bringing in a democratic government for the next 12 years.
Between 1972 and 1990, a self-proclaimed Marxist-Leninist dictatorship called the People's Republic of Benin existed, ushering in a period of repression which ultimately led to an economic collapse. Formation of the Republic of Benin occurred in 1991, bringing in multiparty elections.

It's the most famous and important building in the United States of America.
The White House is the home and office of the President and his many aides and workers.
The design of this extraordinary building is Neo-classical.
It has had several restorations, especially after being burned in the War of 1812.
Many of the nationally and internationally important announcements are made here by the President.
There are few buildings in the world as symbolically significant as the White House.
