Why are we here?. Four new elements are about to be added to the periodic table. nihonium (Nh, element 113), moscovium (Mc, element 115), tennessine (Ts, element 117), and oganesson (Og, element 118). When you say “new” …. New to the table ... I see ... Not exactly. The IUPAC—. Who? ... Anyway, the IUPAC says that elements have to be named after one of five things ... Just before the end of 2015, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry announced the official discovery of four new elements, filling up the periodic table’s seventh row. Now, after much speculation, their proposed names have been unveiled.
