Orange Animas River in Colorado after EPA spills 1mn gallons waste
Drone footage shot on Friday revealed how the stretch of the Animas River near Silverton had changed colour, after an estimated one millions gallons of toxic waste from an environmental mine contaminated it. The wastewater, which is rich in heavy metals such as lead and cadmium as well as the poisonous arsenic, was unintentionally released while a team was working at a Gold King Mine entrance. RE

In 1867, the first diamond discovered in South Africa, the Eureka Diamond, was found near Hopetown on the Orange River. Two years later, a much larger diamond known as the Star of South Africa was found in the same area, causing a diamond rush. This was soon eclipsed by the diamond rush to mine diamonds directly from kimberlite at Kimberley in 1871, although alluvial diamonds continued to be found in the Orange. Today, several commercial diamond mines operate on the last stretch of the river, as well as the beaches around its mouth. Diamond mines also operate on the middle stretch of the river.
All the big diamond mines of South Africa lie to the north of the Orange River. After the first accidental discovery had drawn attention to the occurrence of diamond in South Africa, the four important mines were all discovered in the course of six months. Very soon following these discoveries, other deposits were found.
Pure beauty, ultimate perfection, every stone a miracle itself. The contemporary diamond era begins in South Africa. Less than a hundred years ago the first discoveries were made on the banks of the Orange River. It would mean the beginning of the hi-tech technology searching to the seabed of the Atlantic.

The Animas River in Colorado has turned orange as a toxic spill continues to flow downstream and through to other states.
A team of workers with the Environmental Protection Agency accidentally released 3 million gallons of waste water from the Gold King Mine in Silverton, Colorado, on Aug. 5, the agency said. It was initially estimated to be a third of that size at one million gallons, the EPA said.
The contaminated water contains heavy metals, including lead and arsenic, turning the river water into a murky orange and yellow color, ABC affiliate KMGH reported.
“We are aware that there are a number of old mines that have water dams like, similar to this, and we’re going to go back through them,” Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper told KMGH. “People think about Colorado for our skies and our landscapes and our rushing rivers. They don’t want those rivers to be orange.”
There is no timetable yet for cleaning up the spill, Hickenlooper said, also adding that it’s also too early to determine who should be held accountable.
The water will continue to flow through the San Juan National Forest, where the San Juan River will carry the contaminated water through Utah and eventually into Lake Powell, experts said.
It’s expected to reach Lake Powell by Wednesday, experts said.

"I recorded this song because of the lack of oversight that was going on...", states songwriter and producer, James Mirabal. "When all that mine waste rushed into the Animas I was really shocked and confused. Then I felt mislead and then finally angry... because this could have been prevented..."
Soulful and lamenting notes pierce this hard and driving rock balled titled, "Orange River". Mirabal's tribute to both Durango and the Animas River came out of the frustration and shock that overtook much of Durango and world when the Animas' waters turned orange this August due to the Gold King mine spill which released 3 million gallons of toxic water into the Animas River. Mirabal's wailing guitar lines and rock steady vocals remind us that Colorado's mining legacy is a threat to our present health and community well being, unless we decide to do something about it... A self employed Audio Engineer Mirabal, has worked with environmental groups in the past, documenting successful community led initiatives related to hard rock mine reclamation. "Since I've worked with these groups in the past I knew we could have prevented this. We know how to fix these issues. I'm thankful for all the citizens, non profits and businesses that keep the river healthy. I just hope we can work together and clean up these historic waste sites. Once mine waste is remediated we truly make it a part of our past."
In the middle of Orange River, the guitar line falls out and the catchy pop vocal harmonies pick up in what is one of the song's more controversial lines, "was it an accident, or did those ass hole just want the pay?" When listening to this song, it's easy to imagine back up singers dancing as money falls from the sky into a poisioned river flowing an iridescent orange.
Interestingly Mirabal states, "With this lyric I wanted to express some of the confusion that was being passed through the media... Some sources were claiming or speculating that the EPA did this on purpose... I hardly believe that the EPA intentionally did this, but what I like about that lyric is that it's open ended. I'm asking the listener who they think was benefiting by putting our watersheds health to the side? The EPA? The Gold King Mine? the Town of Silverton by opposing Superfund cleanup in the past? Who was walking away with the money? and is it really worth it? That's why I like that line... because it makes the listener think... and hopefully check their sources"

Lyrics:
Orange River
"If I could only tell whatʼs going on in hell
Iʼd say the river swells in one big orange hue.
Meanwhile the whole world sets their eyes on Durango.
A toxic river flow has got me feeling the blues.
If they only knew this aint something new.
100 years of casual dumping of these chemicals.
100 years of a legacy is flowing down the river right at me.
And itʼs a crying shame that it takes such a huge mistake for people to realize the true prize;
our mother earth and blue skies.
Meanwhile the EPA gladly takes the blame.
Was it an accident or did those assholes just want that pay?
Want the pay. Want the pay. Want the pay. Want the pay.
Only time will tell how close we are to hell and if weʼve turned this world into one big
circus ground.
100 years of a legacy is flowing down the river right at me. 100 years of a legacy is
flowing down the river right at me."

I will do more in depth videos on neighborhoods like Harlem, Brooklyn, Lower East Side which will include shopping, entertainment, eating, all that :) But for now I hope you find this helpful and excited about exploring NYC. I didn't "forget" to list anything. This is just the first video and trust their are a million things to do. Sorry for not including Brooklyn. I rarely go out there and didn't have footage to include in this video. But here goes!
As for the things I listed check them out here:
Statue of Liberty, is located on Ellis Island. It's since been reopened

Central Park is cliche and a MUST! Check out the Boat House this summer and rent a paddle boat for $12/hr. Cash only and a $20 deposit is required
http://www.thecentralparkboathouse.com
Magnolia Bakery has an amazing to die for Banana Pudding that used to be so secret which is now another MUST HAVE while in town
http://www.magnoliabakery.com
Katz Deli is a historical landmark that happens to be famous for their sandwiches. Try the pastrami if you're into that...I'm not :/ Yes this is a tourist destination but it's a part of NYC's history hence a MUST!
http://katzsdelicatessen.com
Patricia Field is a NYC fashion fixture! Made famous for her costume designing in The Devil Wears Prada and Sex and the City: the Movie and sequel, her boutique is another MUST. I love playing dressup here and splurging on accessories!

Need to get around? Rent a bike! I have yet to try this but it seems fabulous! Save your feet and cover more ground. These bikes and bike spots are all over the city. A perfect way to burn calories and see more of the city faster.

Summer in NYC isn't really summer until you get your butt on a rooftop. My pick was Jimmy Rooftop. Sunday's after 3pm are bomb! Amazing music courtesy of DJ Cato. I believe it is doorman discretion, which means, dress your best and don't travel with a bunch of dudes. You get an amazing view of the sun setting over the Hudson River and you get to splash around in the pool if you so choose. I chose this spot because I used to work here and loved it!

Yes! Go to Church! After you party it up Saturday night or Sunday afternoon bring your sinful behind to this awesome church! You don't have to be religious to attend. This is a non-denominal church and people from all over the world come here for the amazing sermons and not to mention the interior. This Church is a converted theatre and a must see. Now go and pray!

My spot! We in my hood now. You MUST go to Orange Beauty Supply! I used to buy all my hair products here when I had hair and you def need to buy a wig here. I take all my gurls here and hook them up with a fabulous synthetic or human hair wig just cause!
Apollo!!! You MUST go here on amateur night! It's historical! You either boo or cheer for the talent on stage. You must have an opinion! Quiet indifference is not tolerated :)

Welcome to San Antonio, one of America’s top travel destinations.
Start your San Antonio sightseeing with a tour of 18th century Spanish missions and several iconic attractions by the Paseo del Rio, also known as the River Walk. The River Walk is accessible by vintage trolleys or even river taxis that will offer you a unique view of this thriving downtown.
Indulge in TexMex and European food from the restaurants strewn across the city. When you’re ready to continue your San Antonio tour, you can spend hours wandering the San Antonio Museum of Art, which is housed in an old brewery. Ready for some sunshine? Head to Market Square to enjoy live performances, merchant stalls full of goods to purchase, and a perfect opportunity for people-watching.
If you’ve brought the kids (or even if you’re on your own), you can head to the San Antonio Zoo and mingle with zebras and hundreds of other animals. Cap off your trip with a visit to the top of the Tower of the Americas, where you can see the entire city lit up beneath you.
Visit our San Antonio travel guide page for more information or to plan your next vacation!

Taking a boat trip or ferry ride along Chao Phraya River is one of the best ways to explore Bangkok. It's extremely cheap to hop on board with locals (which often include orange robbed monks) cruising down the river with wonderful views of the Bangkok, Thailand. http://nomadicsamuel.com : Boats are a great way to get around the famous riverside area with its many historical attractions, and to explore the 'klongs' (canals) for a glimpse of yesteryear Bangkok. Several kinds of boats (express boats, river taxis and tail-boats) run up and down the Chao Phraya River, connecting with the local suburbs on the Thonburi side and along the river, while ferries can be used to cross the river at various points.

There are different types of boats offering different services, and some of the express boats only stop at the main piers. If you simply want to cross the river, there are ferries which cost 2.5 baht, available at several boat landings. River taxis operate up and down the river and cost from around 6 baht, depending on the length of the journey. The Chao Phraya Express Boat Company offers a day pass for 75 baht with departures every 30 minutes from Sathorn Pier. It stops at ten major piers and provides access to attractions like Wat Arun (the Temple of Dawn) the Grand Palace, Wat Po and the Royal Barge Museum. Great value, considering that it includes a guide and drinking water! The Sathorn Pier can easily be reached by traveling with the Skytrain (BTS) to Saphan Taksin station: http://www.bangkok.com/information-travel-around/boats-ferries.htm

One of the off the beaten path things to do in Bangkok is visit Ban Baat (บ้านบาตร), what is known as the Monk’s Bowl Village or community in Bangkok. This attraction will be included in the updated version of my Bangkok eBook: http://migrationology.com/
What’s in this Bangkok video vlog?
4:39 https://youtu.be/0v7dYdLnbL0?t=279 : Lunch at Racha Pochana
8:40 https://youtu.be/0v7dYdLnbL0?t=279 : Ban Baat - Monk’s bowl village in Bangkok
In this Bangkok travel video vlog, I first headed out on the BTS skytrain to Saphan Taksin station. Once there, I met up with a friend at the Saphan Taksin pier. We walked over to Bangrak along Charoen Krung, and across the street from the Robinson department store we went to True Coffee. True Coffee serves alright coffee, and it usually has quite good wifi as well. So if you’re looking for good wifi in Bangkok, True Coffee is usually quite good. After having coffee with Tom, I met up with my wife Ying back at Saphan Taksin, and we headed walked to Sathon Pier to take the boat up the Chao Phraya River.
There are a number of different boats to take, marked different according to the flag. The normal public boat in Bangkok is marked by an orange flag, and it costs 15 THB, and runs along the main river piers. The Chao Phraya river express boat is a great way to travel in Bangkok because you don’t have to worry about traffic, you get a nice cool breeze, and you can see some Bangkok attractions along the way on either side of the river - plus it’s just fun to ride a boat. We took the boat from Sathon Station to Tha Thien pier, which is the same boat station you’d get off if you want to visit Bangkok’s Wat Pho or the Grand Palace. From there we stopped for a bag of dried squid, which is Ying’s favorite snack, and then continued on walking towards the monk’s bowl community - Ban Baat.
On the way, we both got pretty hungry, and we decided to stop for lunch. We didn’t know where to eat, but just stopped at a restaurant that looked like it had character, that was called Racha Pochana, and it served a selection of old school Thai Chinese food. The Grandmother in charge of the restaurant said she cooked all the food herself. Everything was delicious, but out of everything we ordered, my favorite dish was the Chinese long beans stir fried with crispy pork belly and salt.
After an amazing lunch we headed over to Ban Baat, the Monk’s bowl village. On the corner of Boripat Road and Bamrung Muang there is an outdoor workshop which is sort of the introduction to the Ban Baat (บ้านบาตร) community. In this workshop you’ll see artisans creating Thai monk alms bowl by welding pieces of metal together, then pounding them out with a hammer, and then smoothing them, decoration them with lacquer and paint, and then they are available for sale or just to look at. The workshop at the beginning is cool to see, but keep on walking down the street, make a right on Soi Ban Baat, walk down the road for a bit, and you’ll get to the real Monk’s bowl community, the real old section of Ban Baat. This is a neighborhood that was set aside years ago to make monk alms bowls, and it’s one of the last remaining places in Bangkok where they still make the bowls by hand the way they are supposed to be. Buddhist monks that take their practice seriously in Bangkok will likely get a monk alms bowl from Ban Baat (บ้านบาตร). You can walk around the narrow walking lanes of the community neighborhood and observe the different steps it takes to make a monk alms bowl. This is definitely one of the off the beaten path things to do in Bangkok.
They are usually open from about 8 am - 5 pm daily - but some families might be open or shut just depending on the day.
