Roger Michael Kelly, known by the stage name Sam Kelly; (19 December 1943 – 14 June 2014) was an English actor who appeared in film, television, radio and theatre. He is best known for his roles as Captain Hans Geering in 'Allo 'Allo!, Warren in Porridge and Ted Liversidge in Barbara.
Kelly was born in Manchester, on 19 December 1943. He attended the Liverpool Collegiate School and was a chorister at Liverpool Cathedral, where he showed early acting talent by reciting monologues. He worked for three years in the Civil Service in Liverpool before training as an actor at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. After graduating in 1967, he appeared in repertory theatres around the UK.
His early roles included playing a film director in Tiffany Jones (1973) and appearances in two of the later Carry On films, Carry On Dick and Carry On Behind. He then had a significant role in the British sitcom Porridge as the affable and high spirited Slade Prison inmate Bunny Warren who relies on fellow prisoners to read his letters from home and blames his incarceration on his inability to read. In the sitcom 'Allo 'Allo! he played German officer Captain Hans Geering, leaving after the third season (something he later said that he regretted doing). In On the Up he played Dennis Waterman's chauffeur and he appeared in We'll Think of Something as Les Brooks. From 1995 to 2003, he played Barbara's husband Ted in the British sitcom Barbara.
Sam Alexander Kelly (born 21 October 1993) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for League One side Port Vale. He is the younger brother of Ross and Danny Kelly. He was previously attached to Cambridge United, Norwich City, Everton, and Cambridge City.
Kelly was born in Huntingdon near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, and was attached to Cambridge United as a youth. He joined the Norwich City Academy in July 2010. He was released in March 2012 and joined the Everton Academy, before he left Everton in June 2013. He had a trial at Rangers in September 2013, but manager Ally McCoist was unable to offer him a contract due to financial restrictions. He joined Cambridge City of the Southern League Premier Division in February 2014. He returned to play for the Norwich under-21 side in the 2014–15 season.
Kelly signed a two-year contract with League One side Port Vale in June 2015. He made his debut in the Football League on 8 August in a 0–0 draw with rivals Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road. After five further appearances he went three months without playing a game as Enoch Andoh, Sam Foley and Colin Daniel were preferred on the left-wing, before marking his return to the first team with a goal and an assist in a 3–2 win over Chesterfield at Vale Park on 21 November. For his performance he was named on the Football League Paper's team of the week. He got the chance to establish himself in the first team following a long-term injury to Andoh, and though initially inconsistent he managed to impress manager Rob Page who saw "glimpses" of his "terrific talent" by beating three defenders to score the only goal of the game against Bury on 28 December. He came off the bench against Coventry City on 7 February and scored another "sensational" goal to secure a 1–1 draw.
The sixth series of Britain's Got Talent began airing on ITV on 24 March 2012 and ended on 12 May 2012. Ant & Dec returned to present the main show on ITV, while Stephen Mulhern returned to present spin-off show Britain's Got More Talent on ITV2. Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden returned as judges. Alesha Dixon and David Walliams joined the judging panel, replacing Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff. Carmen Electra served as a guest judge for the London auditions in Holden's absence. The series was won by dancing dog act Ashleigh and Pudsey, with opera duo Jonathan and Charlotte coming second. Welsh choir Only Boys Aloud came third. This was the first series since series 4 where Cowell was present at the auditions after only being present at the live shows in series 5.
From this series onwards, the winner's cash prize was increased from £100,000 to £500,000, and the number of judges was increased from three to four. The series was supposed to premiere on 14 April, as mid-April is when each series usually begins, but it was brought forward three weeks to premiere on 24 March – the same night as the launch of The Voice UK on BBC One. Many media outlets saw this move as a deliberate attempt by ITV to create a "TV ratings war" with the BBC.
