It was in this valley that the Nabatean People came to 2000 years ago, on the backs of camels and started to settle on the land. They made a transformation from being nomads to being settled people with a wonderful culture and their own language and a king. They made beautiful ceramic thin pottery, quite advanced in its standard. The Nabateans lived a fascinating life, they were in charge of export and travel of wonderful spices through the desert. נקודת חן מגישה לכם ביקור קצר וקליל בגן לאומי אתר מורשת עולמית ממשית. ממשית הייתה עיר נבטית על ציר עתיק בשם דרך הבשמים. הציר הוביל מהמזרח אל חוף הים. לפי מפת מידבא ממשית נקראה גם ממפיס. העיר נבנתה במחצית השנייה של המאה הראשונה לפני הספירה הנוצרית והתקיימה כ- 700 שנה
בסרטון רואים נסיעה על קטע מדרך הבשמים העתיקה, את שער העיר, חומות העיר, השוק הנבטי, רחוב נבטי, נוף ממגדל תצפית קטן, כנסיית הנילוס בה נשתמרה רצפת פסיפס מרהיבה אך הושחתה בשנת 1994 ועדיין יפה מאד, שרידי טחנת קמח, הנוף של נחל ממשית היבש בקיץ וסביבתו, בית מרחץ ביזנטי, בית האמידים - מעין וילה מפוארת אשר בה שרדו מס' קשתות,
ממשית שוכנת במזרח הנגב דרומית לדימונה. אל ממשית מגיעים מכביש גישה קטן היוצא מכביש 25.
לאחר הביקור יצאנו עם הרכב אל הכביש וכדי להמחיש את מיקומה של ממשית עברנו את דימונה השכנה הצעירה של ממשית.

amshit es una de las cuatro ciudades nabateas que, junto a Petra, formaron parte de la famosa ruta comercial a través del Desierto del Négev hasta el Mediterráneo, envidia de los romanos. Его аутентичное название было, видимо, Мемпсис, по крайней мере, именно так написано на карте Медва. Упоминается у Птолемея и в «Ономастиконе» Евсевия (8:8). Был расположен на стыке древних путей из Газы и Иерусалима в Эйлат и Петру, соединял Негев и Эдом. Город возник в 4 веке до нашей эры в эллинистический период. Большинство развалин, занимающих площадь в 40 акров, относятся к римско-византийскому периоду. Разрушен во время арабского завоевания в 7 веке. Mamshit (Hebrew: ממשית) is the Nabataean city of Mampsis. In the Nabataean period, Mamshit was an important station on Incense Road, running from the Idumean Mountains, through the Arabah and Ma'ale Akrabim, and on to Beer-Sheva or to Hebron and Jerusalem. The city covers 10 acres (40,000 m2) and is the smallest but best restored city in the Negev Desert. The once-luxurious houses feature unusual architecture not found in any other Nabataean city.
The reconstructed city gives the visitor a sense of how Mamshit once looked. Entire streets have survived intact, and there are also large groups of Nabataean buildings with open rooms, courtyards, and terraces. The stones are carefully chiseled and the arches that support the ceiling are remarkably well constructed.
Mamshit was built in 1st century BC as trade post on the way from Petra to Gaza. with time the city was developed and based also on agriculture. When trade in Mamshit waned with the Roman occupation, the occupants found another way to make a living: raising horses. The residents of Mamshit bred the renowned Arabian horse, which brought great wealth to their city. During the Byzantine period Mamshit also received support from the authorities for being a frontier city. When this funding dried up, at the time of Justinian, the city died a natural death. Before the founding of the State of Israel, Prime Minister to-be David Ben-Gurion saw Mamshit as the capital of the future country, which dovetailed with his dream of settling the Negev Desert.

בסרטון רואים נסיעה על קטע מדרך הבשמים העתיקה, את שער העיר, חומות העיר, השוק הנבטי, רחוב נבטי, נוף ממגדל תצפית קטן, כנסיית הנילוס בה נשתמרה רצפת פסיפס מרהיבה אך הושחתה בשנת 1994 ועדיין יפה מאד, שרידי טחנת קמח, הנוף של נחל ממשית היבש בקיץ וסביבתו, בית מרחץ ביזנטי, בית האמידים - מעין וילה מפוארת אשר בה שרדו מס' קשתות,
ממשית שוכנת במזרח הנגב דרומית לדימונה. אל ממשית מגיעים מכביש גישה קטן היוצא מכביש 25.
לאחר הביקור יצאנו עם הרכב אל הכביש וכדי להמחיש את מיקומה של ממשית עברנו את דימונה השכנה הצעירה של ממשית.

After the visit we drove through the short access road to Highway 25. and we passed near Dimona
