Higher Ed Business Reporter (Short Term)

Inside Higher Ed is seeking an industrious and dynamic reporter to cover higher education finance and management for a 3- to 4-month period this winter and spring (filling in for a reporter on leave). Position will run roughly from early January through April or May.

The full-time, but short-term, contract position will give the successful candidate a chance to dive into higher education reporting headfirst, covering the college industry at a time of significant turmoil and tension. Just a few of the many timely issues on this reporter's agenda: the survival of small private colleges, booms and busts in state spending and endowment growth, tuition pricing and discounting, and political interference in university governance.

Our reporters mix beat reporting, analysis and creative approaches to telling stories; candidates should be able to juggle multiple articles at once, and should like to dig deeply and to learn.

Inside Higher Ed publishes breaking news, features, commentary, blogs and other content each weekday, and has quickly established itself as a fresh, authoritative, independent voice for its 1.3 million unique monthly users and 108,000 daily e-mail subscribers.

Because it is a short-term position, Inside Higher Ed will offer competitive pay but no benefits. Centrally located in downtown D.C. Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resume, and five strong clips to jobs@insidehighered.com or by mail to:
