The final session of Parliament got off to a noisy start today as Seemandhra and Telangana MPs sparred with each other on the floor of the two Houses as soon as they assembled for the day, forcing their adjournment for an hour.
The MPs disregarded the Prime Minister appeal earlier in the day, urging "all sections to contribute and make this a historic session," and ensure that key legislation is passed.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram was more realistic. "I doubt if Parliament will pass any bill in this session," he said. It's likely that parliament will be stalled often by law-makers from different parties protesting against the government's decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh and turn the region of Telangana into a state.
The immediate crisis for the government is that law-makers from Andhra Pradesh say they will ask for the PM to take a trust vote over its Telangana plans. "These are minor hiccups and I hope they will set aside their prejudices for a conducive session," the PM said about the embarrassment of members from his own party moving a no-confidence motion against him.
The union government has said Telangana, one of the three regions of Andhra Pradesh, will be made India's 29th state. The other two regions, referred to as "Seemandhra" are virulently opposed to this and their representatives say they will fight the move.
The Congress' central leadership wants parliament to debate and vote on the bill that splits the state so that it can make electoral gains in Telangana in the national election. But state leaders from the Congress, including Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, want the opposite. Unless Andhra Pradesh goes to the polls undivided, they will be punished by voters.

The second half of Parliament's Winter Session is all set to begin on Wednesday amidst the Telangana tangle.
At stake are 39 bills and the reputation of the 15th Lok Sabha which is already going down in the records as one of the worst performing in the Indian history.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath had called an all-party meet to appeal to all the political parties to co-operate in smooth functioning of the House.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj reacted to Kamal Nath's appeal saying, "I heard what Kamalnath was saying. But they have failed to manage their own MPs and their own CM is against them."
The second half of the Winter Session has the Opposition putting the onus of running the Parliament on the government. The government, meanwhile, has appealed to the Opposition to co-operate in the functioning of Parliament and also sought its support in the passage of six anti-corruption bills.
"We want opposition to co-operate in the passage of bills. No ifs and buts. Make your stand clear," said Kamal Nath.
On the government's agenda are 39 bills including six anti-corruption bills, two of which have already been passed by the Lok Sabha but are pending in the Rajya Sabha. The Opposition, however, is set to corner the government on the latest developments in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal.
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley has clearly indicated that the BJP would not let the Centre breathe easy. "We would raise latest revelation in VVIP chopper deal," he said.
Apart from the anti-graft bills, politically the Telangana Bill assumes greater significance for the Congress. The party is in shambles in the Seemandhra region and is pinning all its hopes on the 17 seats in Telangana to cut down on its losses in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

wn.com/News X Last Parliament Session Of 15Th Indian Loksabha To Start From Today

Lok Sabha Election 2014: Battle in New Delhi
The battle in New Delhi is between Congress incumbent MP Ajay Maken, BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi and AAP's Ashish Khetan. Each one more confident of victory than the other. On their road shows and padyatras you get a feeling of blissful oblivion. But the sense I got was that if Congress has any chance to win even a single seat in New Delhi, Ajay Maken will be the front runner.

Calcutta, or Kolkata as it has been known since 2001, is the capital of West Bengal and also the second largest city in India.
A city of contrasts that could not be more striking with slums, poverty and degrading conditions, while nearby, the wealthy enjoy all the finer things of life. Once a humble village on the Hooghly River, Kolkata became the capital of British India.
Close to the Victoria Memorial is the Orient's first Anglican cathedral, St. Paul's, a remarkable sacred building. Of Indo-Gothic design, it was built between 1839 and 1847 and is a legacy of British colonial rule on the banks of the Gulf of Bengal. The red brick Writers´ Building was formerly the headquarters of the East India Company and it was from there that trade was carried out across the entire world. It was also the administrative centre for Bengal, Burma and Pakistan.
Kalighat is the oldest pilgrimage destination in the world. Narrow pathways lead to a Shiva temple along with stalls selling souvenirs and religious offerings.T he sanctuary was built in 1809 and is still busy today as taxis and bicycle rickshaws wait for the thousands of pilgrims that go there each day. In Kolkata, the Hindu doctrine of a better life after rebirth is, for many, the only hope that they can cling to.
Nevertheless, Kolkata is one of the most fascinating metropolises in the world and also one in which chaos reigns supreme!

TV9 News : Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha By-Poll Result - 11/12......,
Though the polling for Lok Sabha election in Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency went on peacefully, the turn out of voters across the constituency had been rather poor, reflecting strong sense of reluctance from the voters to come to the polling booths.
According to sources the turn out in all the four assembly constituencies in the district witnessed 64 per cent polling. Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency saw 68.14 per cent polling.
In Sringeri the turn out was estimated to be 73 per cent while Chikmagalur had 50 per cent, Mudigere 64 per cent and Tarikere had 56 per cent polling. Last elections, the total polling was registered at 62.5 per cent with Sringeri registering 64 per cent, Mudigere at 54 per cent, Chikmagalur at 61 per cent and Tarikere at 52 per cent.
Intense security had been provided at all the naxal affected areas and at the hyper-sensitive booths. Due to this the voters walked up to the booths fearlessly.
Chikmagalur, Mudigere, Tarikere and Sringeri constituencies saw just 30 per cent turn out till afternoon. It is said that both, summer heat and India-Pakistan cricket tournament had made voters stay indoor in a big way. At places like Hakkandur and Joladal, only three to four people were seen waiting in the queue. In Aldoor only 291 voters came to cast votes out of 1,219 voters.
However, voters came in large numbers at Basavanahalli and market road booths in Chikmagalur city.
Boycott
Barring the voters boycotting polls at Harlagadde in Mudigere constituency and at Yalugere in Tarikere polling went on smoothly.
Condemning inadequate infrastructure facilities in the region, voters of both villages boycotted the election and vented out their anger against Government and political parties.
Though local MLA M P Kumaraswamy and others tried their level best to convince the angry voters, it yielded no results. The villagers even charged Kumaraswamy and asked him to return.
At Yalugere 800 voters unanimously decided to stay away from polling booths. JD(S) candidate S L Bhojegowda performed 'Go Puja' along with his wife Achala before proceeding to the polling booth to cast his vote. Chikmagalur MLA C T Ravi cast his vote along with his wife at Vijayapura extension booth.
In naxal affected areas
Polling went on swiftly without any violent episodes, in all the naxal infested areas of Koppa taluk on Sunday, for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha polls.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF) and civil police had been posted at the polling booths to ensure security.
Hyper-sensitive booths of Menasinahadya, Heggaru, Haralane, Golugodu, Kittalaguli, Bairedevaru and Kallugudde registered 60 per cent turn out till afternoon.
The taluk registered 5 per cent polling after two hours of commencement of the polls. By 12 noon the graph rose to 25.2 per cent and by 2 pm it was 40 per cent.
While voters complained of rude and unapproachable security personnel at Golugodu, missing names of some of the voters in the list caused confusion at Nuggi and Binthravalli areas. On the other hand spoilt electronic voting machines delayed the voting process by one hour.
There are 106 polling booths in the Taluk where 28,965 men and 29,194 cast their votes.
The by poll is being held after the seat of Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency turned vacant as the then MP D V Sadananda Gowda had to resign from the post after he became the Chief Minister.
The destiny of 17 candidates including Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde, BJP candidate Sunil Kumar and JD(S) candidate S L Bhoje Gowda has been stored in the electronic voting machines. The results will be out on March 21.

Kolkata known historically in English as Calcutta /kælˈkʌtə/, is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly river, it is the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of East India, while the Port of Kolkata is India's oldest operating port as well as its sole major riverine port. As of 2011, the city had 4.5 million residents; the urban agglomeration, which comprises the city and its suburbs, was home to approximately 14.1 million, making it the third-most populous metropolitan area in India. As of 2008, its economic output as measured by gross domestic product ranked third among South Asian cities, behind Mumbai and Delhi.[6] As a growing metropolitan city in a developing country, Kolkata confronts substantial urban pollution, traffic congestion, poverty, overpopulation, and other logistic and socioeconomic problems.
In the late 17th century, the three villages that predated Kolkata were ruled by the Nawab of Bengal under Mughal suzerainty. After the Nawab granted the East India Company a trading license in 1690,[7] the area was developed by the Company into an increasingly fortified mercantile base. Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah occupied Kolkata in 1756, and the East India Company retook it in the following year and by 1772 assumed full sovereignty. Under East India Company and later under the British Raj, Kolkata served as the capital of India until 1911, when its perceived geographical disadvantages, combined with growing nationalism in Bengal, led to a shift of the capital to New Delhi. The city was the centre of the Indian independence movement; it remains a hotbed of contemporary state politics. Following Indian independence in 1947, Kolkata—which was once the centre of modern Indian education, science, culture, and politics—witnessed several decades of relative economic stagnation. Since the early 2000s, an economic rejuvenation has led to accelerated growth.
As a nucleus of the 19th- and early 20th-century Bengal Renaissance and a religiously and ethnically diverse centre of culture in Bengal and India, Kolkata has established local traditions in drama, art, film, theatre, and literature that have gained wide audiences. Many people from Kolkata—among them several Nobel laureates—have contributed to the arts, the sciences, and other areas, while Kolkata culture features idiosyncrasies that include distinctively close-knit neighbourhoods (paras) and freestyle intellectual exchanges (adda). West Bengal's share of the Bengali film industry is based in the city, which also hosts venerable cultural institutions of national importance, such as the Academy of Fine Arts, the Victoria Memorial, the Asiatic Society, the Indian Museum, and the National Library of India. Though home to major cricketing venues and franchises, Kolkata differs from other Indian cities by giving importance to association football and other sports.

Kolkata is known for its literary, artistic, and revolutionary heritage; as the former capital of India, it was the birthplace of modern Indian literary and artistic thought. Kolkata has been called the "City of Furious, Creative Energy" as well as the "cultural [or literary] capital of India". The presence of paras, which are neighbourhoods that possess a strong sense of community, is characteristic of Kolkata. Typically, each para has its own community club and, on occasion, a playing field. Residents engage in addas, or leisurely chats, that often take the form of freestyle intellectual conversation. The city has a tradition of political graffiti depicting everything from outrageous slander to witty banter and limericks, caricatures, and propaganda.
Kolkata has many buildings adorned with Indo-Islamic and Indo-Saracenic architectural motifs. Several well-maintained major buildings from the colonial period have been declared "heritage structures"; however, others are in various stages of decay.Established in 1814 as the nation's oldest museum, the Indian Museum houses large collections that showcase Indian natural history and Indian art. Marble Palace is a classic example of a European mansion that was built in the city. The Victoria Memorial, a place of interest in Kolkata, has a museum documenting the city's history. The National Library of India is the leading public library in the country.

One of the famous shops in Mumbai for fine arts and artefacts is Phillips Antiques. Which has been in business since 1860. That is close to 150 years. This shop is located opposite Regal Cinima in Colaba, South Mumbai. This is where you can expect to find a variety of oil paintings, carvings, masks, silverware and other things.
I am Farukisa, I am the owner of the shop. The shop was founded 1860 by Mr. Phillips. We purchased this shop, my great-grandfather, in 1920. It is a very old established shop in Mumbai selling works of art and photographs, maps, folk and tribal art. This table has a display of unusual and unique tribal masks from Maharashtra. They are 40 years old and cost around 35000 rupees.
Over here we have a nice collection of Indian folk paintings. These are called Mifil paintings, they come from Bihar, using natural colors, from extracts of flowers and fruits. These wooden carvings, which are 50 to 60 years old, are the yalis from Kerala. These are the original 1920 oleographs from the Raja Ravivarman Press. These are exclusive photographs of old Bombay, taken in the pre-independence era between 1855 and 1914. They cost anywhere from 3000 to 5000.
If you are looking at old prints and maps you need to keep them in a dry environment. Humidity is bad for pictures generally. As for other objects, I think any, there is no special care for them. Except just do not drop them. I am Mustufa, showing you Mumbai.

Congress office on Akbar Road saw just a few visitors on the verdict day of General Election of 2014, India.
The Indian general election of 2014 was held to constitute the 16th Lok Sabha, electing members of parliament to all 543 parliamentary constituencies of India. Running in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May 2014, this was the longest election in the country's history. According to the Election Commission of India, 814.5 million people were eligible to vote, with an increase of 100 million voters since the last general election in 2009, making this the largest-ever election in the world. Around 23.1 million or 2.7% of the total eligible voters were aged 18--19 years. A total of 8,251 candidates contested for the 543 Lok Sabha seats. The average election turnout over all nine phases was around 66.38%, the highest ever in the history of Indian general elections.
The results were declared on 16 May, fifteen days before the 15th Lok Sabha completes its constitutional mandate on 31 May 2014. The counting exercise was held at 989 counting centres. The National Democratic Alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, won a sweeping victory, taking 336 seats. The BJP itself won 282 seats, the first time since Rajiv Gandhi's landslide victory in 1984 that an Indian party has won enough seats to govern without the support of other parties. The United Progressive Alliance, led by the Indian National Congress, won 59 seats, 44 of which were won by the Congress. BJP leader Narendra Modi is thus poised to take office at the helm of the largest majority government since 1984. It was also the second-worst defeat of a sitting government in independent India.

Enjoy travelling through my beautiful city, Kolkata-the capital of West Bengal, India, commonly known as the City of Joy :)
'A Day in the Life of India' is a TV show that I made as part of my finaly year college assignment. I was required to make a TV show and hence had to come up with such a format instead of a travel documentary.
I have got most of the pictures from wikipedia and blogs and couldn't find the name of the photographer. So credit for all the still photographs that are seen in the intro are taken from the internet. However, all the video parts have been shot by me.
All the logos and names of the different brans I have used in the TV show as the advertisers belong to the respective companies. No copyright infringement intended. The ad on Gatorade has been made by my classmate as part of his college project and hence no copyright infringment intended for that ad as well.
The background music for the show has been downloaded from freeplaymusic.com that allows students to download music free of charge for college assignment.

Lalu Prasad Yadav (born 11 June 1948) is an Indian politician from the state of Bihar. He was Chief Minister of Bihar from 1990 to 1997 and Minister of Railways from 2004 to 2009 with United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. He is the President of the Rashtriya Janata Dal political party. He was а Member of Parliament of 15th Lok Sabha from the Saran constituency in Bihar, but disqualified as MP owing to conviction for his involvement in the 1996 fodder scam.
He entered politics during his student days at Patna University, and he was elected a member of the Lok Sabha in 1977 as a Janata Party candidate. At the age of 29 he was one of its youngest members of Parliament. Yadav became Chief Minister of Bihar in 1990 but resigned in 1997 following escalating corruption charges relating to the Fodder Scam. From 1997 to 2005, with brief interruptions, his wife Rabri Devi was the Chief Minister. Her political opponents often accused her as having served as his "surrogate." His tenure as Chief Minister of the state has been criticized for lawlessness and has been termed as the Jungle Raj.
Many accusations have been made about him citing him as an encourager of criminality and 'Gunda Raj' in Bihar. He is known as a crowdpuller, shrewd and colourful politician but has been criticized for promoting and encouraging caste-based politics and there are several corruption cases against him.On 3 October 2013, he was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and ₹25 lakh (US$38,000) fine for his role in the Fodder Scam.
Chief Minister of Bihar
In 1990, Janta Dal came to power in Bihar. PM V. P. Singh wanted former Chief Minister Ram Sundar Das to lead the government. and Chandra Shekhar backed Raghunath Jha. To break deadlock deputy PM Devi Lal nominated Yadav as CM candidate. Yadav was victorious in an internal poll of Janta Party MLS's and became the Chief Minister. On 23 September 1990, Yadav arrested L K Advani at Samastipur during later's rath yatra to Ayodhya and presented himself as a secular leader. The World Bank lauded his party for its work in the 1990s on the economic front. In 1993, Yadav adopted a pro-English policy and pushed for the re-introduction of English as a language in school curriculum, contrary to the angrezi hatao (banish English) policy of then Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav, another Yadav and caste based politician. Policy of opposition to English was considered an anti-elite policy since both the Yadav leaders represented the same social constituents The Backward castes, Dalits and minority communities.[25] With the help of Yadav-Muslim votes, Lalu continued to be Bihar CM. In the Fodder Scam, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued an arrest warrant for Yadav, and he had to resign from CM's post. Subsequently he installed his wife Rabri Devi as Bihar CM.
Railway Minister[edit]
In 2004, Yadav contested general election from Chapra and Madhepura against Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Sharad Yadav respectively and won from both the seats. In total, RJD won 21 seats and it allied with Indian National Congress becoming 2nd largest member of UPA I after Congress. Yadav became the railway minister in the 2004 UPA Government. Later, he gave up the Madhepura seat.
As railway minister, Yadav left passenger fares untouched and focused on other sources of revenue for the Railways. He banned plastic cups from being used to serve tea at railway stations and replaced those with kulhars (earthen cups), in order to generate more employment in rural areas.Later, he also said that he had plans to introduce buttermilk and khādī. In June 2004, he announced that he would get on the railway himself to inspect its problems and went on to board the Patna railway station at midnight. He introduced cushion seats in all unreserved compartments.

The Indian general election of 2014 was held to constitute the 16th Lok Sabha, electing members of parliament for all 543 parliamentary constituencies of India. Running in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May 2014, this was the longest election in the country's history.[3][4] According to the Election Commission of India, 814.5 million people were eligible to vote, with an increase of 100 million voters since the last general election in 2009,[5] making this the largest-ever election in the world.[6] Around 23.1 million or 2.7% of the total eligible voters were aged 18--19 years.[7] A total of 8,251 candidates contested for the 543 Lok Sabha seats.[8] The average election turnout over all nine phases was around 66.38%, the highest ever in the history of Indian general elections.[8]
The results were declared on 16 May, fifteen days before the 15th Lok Sabha completes its constitutional mandate on 31 May 2014.[9] The counting exercise was held at 989 counting centres.[8] The National Democratic Alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, won a sweeping victory, taking 336 seats. The BJP itself won 31.0% of all votes and 282 (51.9%) of all seats. It is the first time since the 1984 Indian general elections that a party has won enough seats to govern without the support of other parties.[10] The United Progressive Alliance, led by the Indian National Congress, won 58 seats,[2] 44 (8.1%) of which were won by the Congress, that won 19.3% of all votes.[1][11] It was the Congress party's worst defeat in a general election.[12][13] BJP and its allies won the right to form the largest majority government since the 1984 general election.[1

Party workers and supporters flocked the Bharatiya Janata Party central office to celebrate the grand win and the comeback of NDA government after one very long decade.

New Delhi: The BJP's veteran leader LK Advani today proposed the name of Narendra Modi for Prime Minister and all party MPs gave their rousing endorsement, setting the stage for the takeover of a new BJP government.
"I propose Mr Modi's name as the leader of the BJP's parliamentary party," Mr Advani said. The proposal was seconded by a series of BJP leaders including MM Joshi, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari and Venkaiah Naidu, who called Mr Modi the "darling of the masses." (Track Live Updates Here )
Mr Modi will meet President Pranab Mukherjee at 3:15 in the afternoon to stake claim to form a government. The BJP has won 336 of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha with its allies. (Elections 2014: Detailed Results here)
As he arrived for the meeting of his party MPs in Parliament, Mr Modi touched Mr Advani's feet and they embraced. They repeated the sequence after party MPs chose Mr Modi as their leader.
Mr Modi is expected to be sworn in as the country's 15th Prime Minister between Sunday next, May 25, and Tuesday, May 27, sources have said. ( PMO's 10 Point Priority List for Narendra Modi )
Mr Advani had publicly protested against Mr Modi's elevation as the BJP's election campaign chief and also his being named the party's prime ministerial candidate before Assembly elections were held last year. He had also sought to shift out of Gandhinagar in Mr Modi's Gujarat, a seat he then won five times, to contest from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. He was finally talked into changing his mind. (Election Results 2014: From Advani, Flowers and a Hug for Modi )
Mr Modi has been camped in Delhi since Sunday holding multiple meetings to finalise his cabinet and decide on what role Mr Advani and other leaders who are close to him, will have in his government. Mr Advani has reportedly expressed interest in being the Lok Sabha Speaker, a constitutional post that does not report to the PM.
On Wednesday, Mr Modi will resign as Gujarat chief minister and MLA and party legislators will elect their next chief minister. Sources say senior Gujarat minister Anandi Ben, who is close to Mr Modi, is the top contender for the post Mr Modi has held since 2001.

The Newshour Debate: Sonia Gandhi's televised appeal counter jibe - Full Debate (15th April 2014)

Sonia Gandhi's televised appeal to voters on Tuesday (April 15) led BJP to take a jibe at the Congress that Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha poll campaign was "not working" and coin a new slogan 'Mein Nahin, Mom' (Not me, Mom)' for the rival party. Narendra Modi while taking a swipe at Sonia for her appeal in multiple TV channels last night said it reflected her realisation that her son had not delivered on the election front. "All of a sudden Sonia Gandhi has come to the fore to take charge of the (election) campaign. She had thought that her son would do something. But when nothing happened. What could she do? The mother herself had to come to the fore, appear on TV to deliver advertised messages to the nation," the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate said. "You must have seen this paid news. They have lots of money, they can buy TV (channels), they can buy time on TV andtell what they want to say," Modi said addressing a rally in Bhagalpur in Bihar. Sonia had appealed to people to defeat "divisive and autocratic" forces which will "destroy" the Indian ethos. She also used the prime TV time to position the Lok Sabha polls as an epoch making battle to protect the "very heart and soul of India".
Modi said when Gandhi says her party respects democratic traditions, it is something that cannot be easily digested. BJP leader Arun Jaitley also took potshots at Congress, saying that the party had been forced to change its principal communicator since Rahul's speeches to the people were "not working". Taking a jibe in a post on his website, he said the new slogan of Congress is 'Mein Nahin, Mom' (Not me, Mom) and claimed that last minute attempts to change electoral agenda through paid television time would not click. "The Congress Party changed track yesterday. Rahul Gandhi-led campaign and the accompanying advertisements were given a backseat. The Congress President Sonia Gandhi herself decided to lead from the front. She addressed the country by booking television time on all channels," he said. "The idea was to change the principal communicator of the party from the son to the mother," he said.
In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- C R Kesavan, Spokesperson, Congress; Piyush Goyal, National Treasurer and MP, Rajya Sabha, BJP; Naresh Gujral, MP Rajya Sabha, SAD; Sankarshan Thakur, Roving Editor, The Telegraph and Hartosh Singh Bal, Political Editor, The Caravan Magazine -- discuss whether, has Congress decided that a collective family front against Narendra Modi is more effective than just pitting Rahul against Modi?
