We met Valentina & Sofia, two women living at the Belarusion countryside 3 years ago. It was an amazing visit, with songs, music, abundant homegrown food and self-distelled wodka. You can meet the people of Anoshki as well, during our roundtrip Belarus.
About Anoshki: Mainly the people of the village are pensioners. There are only few young families, but they try to do their best to study and support the local traditions.
Mainly the village inhabitants are engaged in farming and gathering berries and mushrooms.
Some families are trying to develop agro tourism. By now they receive guests only for a day offering them an excursion about the local territories, horse riding, mushrooms and berries' gathering, fishing, folklore program, tasting belarussian cuisine. Since coming summer a house for guests will be finished and the tourists will have the oppertunity to stay in the village for a night or more. The place is very picturesque, so it will be reasonable to stay there within several days.
Besides different pagan holidays are held in the village: Kupalye, Dozhinki, Maslenitsa, "Tsyareshka marrage" and others which gather many local people and guests.

Polish cuisine (Polish: kuchnia polska ['kuxɲa ˈpɔlska]) is a style of cooking and food preparation originating in or widely popular in Poland. Polish cuisine has evolved over the centuries to become very eclectic due to Poland's history. Polish cuisine shares many similarities with other Slavic countries, especially Czech, Slovak, Belarusian, Ukrainian and Russian cuisines. It has also been widely influenced by Central European cuisines, namely German, Austrian and Hungarian cuisines as well as Jewish,French, Turkish and Italian culinary traditions. It is rich in meat, especially pork, chicken and beef (depending on the region), winter vegetables (cabbage in the dish bigos), and herbs. It is also characteristic in its use of various kinds of noodles the most notable of which are kluski as well as cereals such as kasha (from the Polish word kasza). Generally speaking, Polish cuisine is hearty and uses a lot of cream and eggs. The traditional dishes are often demanding in preparation. Many Poles allow themselves a generous amount of time to serve and enjoy their festive meals, especially Christmas eve dinner (Wigilia) or Easter breakfast which could take a number of days to prepare in their entirety.
The Polish national dishes are bigos [ˈbiɡɔs]; pierogi [pʲɛˈrɔɡʲi]; kiełbasa; kotlet schabowy [ˈkɔtlɛt sxaˈbɔvɨ] (type of breaded cutlet); gołąbki [ɡɔˈwɔ̃pkʲi] (type of cabbage roll); zrazy [ˈzrazɨ] (type of roulade); roast (Polish: pieczeń) [ˈpʲɛt͡ʂɛɲ]; sour cucumber soup (Polish: zupa ogórkowa) Polish pronunciation: [ˈzupa ɔɡurˈkɔva]; mushroom soup, (Polish: zupa grzybowa) [ˈzupa ɡʐɨˈbɔva] (quite different from the North American cream of mushroom); tomato soup (Polish: zupa pomidorowa) [ˈzupa pɔmidɔˈrɔva];[7] rosół [ˈrɔɕuw] (variety of meat broth); żurek [ˈʐurɛk] (sour rye soup); flaki [ˈflakʲi] (variety of tripe soup); and barszcz [barʂt͡ʂ] among others.
The main meal might be eaten about 2 p.m. or later. It is larger than the North American lunch. It might be composed of three courses especially among the traditionalists, starting with a soup like a popular rosół and tomato soup or more festive barszcz (beet borscht) or żurek (sour rye meal mash), followed perhaps in a restaurant by an appetizer such as herring (prepared in either cream, oil, or in aspic); or other cured meats and vegetable salads. The main course usually includes a serving of meat, such as roast or kotlet schabowy (breaded pork cutlet), or chicken. Vegetables, currently replaced by leafy green salads, were not very long ago most commonly served as surówka [suˈrufka] – shredded root vegetables with lemon and sugar (carrot, celeriac, seared beetroot) or sauerkraut (Polish: kapusta kiszona) [kaˈpusta kʲiˈʂɔna]. The side dishes are usually boiled potatoes, rice or more traditionally kasza (cereals). Meals often conclude with a dessert such as makowiec, a poppy seed pastry, or drożdżówka [drɔʐˈd͡ʐufka], a type of yeast cake. Other Polish specialities include chłodnik (a chilled beet or fruit soup for hot days), golonka (pork knuckles cooked with vegetables), kołduny (meat dumplings), zrazy (stuffed slices of beef), salceson and flaki (tripe).
Polish cuisine in the Middle Ages was based on dishes made of agricultural produce and cereal crops (millet, rye, wheat), meats of wild and farm animals, fruits, forest berries and game, honey, herbs and local spices. It was known above all for abundant use of salt from Wieliczka and permanent presence of groats (kasza). A high calorific value of dishes and drinking beer or mead as a basic drink was typical of Middle Ages Polish cuisine.
During the Middle Ages the cuisine of Poland was heavy and spicy. Two main ingredients were meat (both game and beef) and cereal. The latter consisted initially of proso millet, but later in the Middle Ages other types of cereal became widely used. Most commoners did not use bread and instead consumed cereals in the forms of kasza or various types of flatbread, some of which (for instance kołacz) are considered traditional recipes even in the 21st century. Apart from cereals, a large portion of the daily diet of mediaeval Poles consisted of beans, mostly broad beans and peas. As the territory of Poland was densely forested, usage of mushrooms, forest berries, nuts and wild honey was also widespread. Among the delicacies of the Polish nobility were honey-braised bear paws served with horseradish-flavoured salad (now species protected in Poland), smoked bear tongue and bear bacon.
Thanks to close trade relations with Turkey and the countries in the Caucasus, the price of spices (such as black pepper and nutmeg) was much lower in Poland than the rest of Europe, hence spicy sauces became popular.

What is Belarus?
What is Belarus you might ask me? I will totally answer you - it’s a country. And I will proudly add that it’s a country I was born. This little video presentation will tell you a little bit about Belarus.
So! Belarus name has it roots in ancient Belarusian what means “White Russia”. Probably because girls from here usually have blue eyes and blond hair.
Belarus is located right between Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine.
Population is about 10 million people and we are slowly dying. I mean that our population decreases every year. We have to do something about it! And by the way it’s McDonalds for us it’s a high-end restaurant.
We have a lot of forests. One the most beautiful called Беловежская Пуща and it’s a national park where you can see real and rare buffalos.
The capital of Belarus is Minsk. During the World War 2 most of the country was destroyed and there are only few original buildings we can see now. What you see right now is called Троицкое Предместье.
Our slavic neighbors friendly call us Бульбоеды which means potato-eaters. Agriculture is a very developed industry here. We really do love potato! It save us during World War Two!
Our president is Александр Лукашенко whom was our president since 1994 till now. We are not really allowed to talk about this, but I’ll be honest with you: nothing has really changed since than.
But let’s go back to my topic. What is Belarus? Belarus is patriotism. We love our country no matter what. You see right now is Площадь Победы (Victory Square). Right there in the middle you can see as we call it an Eternal Fire (Вечный огонь) which one is dedicated to solders whom fighted for our country in World War Two.
Belarus is people. Majority of us are orthodox. But we have all kinds of minorities.
Every Belarusian was born to be an optimist. We patiently collect our paychecks month by month for many-many months to buy a new TV or fridge.
Belarusian cuisine is different than any other; we combine the best recipes from all Slavic cuisines like Ukrainian and Russian.
Belarus is culture. Our people are well educated. We have all kinds of theaters, awarded as the best circus in all Europe. Right now you see the National Opera Theater.
Belarus is a beautiful country. And I’m truly proud to be a Belarusian.
Every Belarusian is a great host – so any time you want to visit us – You’re welcome no matter who you are and where are you from!
Сардэчна запрашаем! Which means “welcome with all our heart”
This is BELARUS!
