The 28-year-old Saudi-born singer Shams Bandar Al-Aslami might not have been so popular before but after making some bold comments about the Arab world she is getting the limelight almost everywhere.
Shams was interviewed recently where she lamented on the worrisome situation that a number of Arab countries are currently going through, blaming the Arab world in general for hypocrisy on the matter.
Her comments were pretty hard hitting and got criticized all over the Arab countries because it is not usual for an Arab to speak out so openly against his/ her fellow Arabs.
Shams Bandar, on the other hand, has recently announced that she is giving up her Saudi and Kuwaiti nationality and taking on a European nationality. In the interview, she was inquired as to the reasons for this.
When she was probed with questions about why she regarded the Arab world as “hell” and the west as “paradise,” she finally spoke up:
Why tell ourselves lies? The Syrians are scattered in the world’s oceans, dying by the millions on a daily basis… Iraqis are dying by the millions… All the Arab countries have closed their borders to them. What can these wretched people do with their Arab citizenship? How does a suffering Syrian benefit from his Arab citizenship, when his children and family have been killed and his life has been destroyed? His own Arab brethren do not let him in.
Defending the west and comparing it against the practices of Arab she taunted whether the former chopped off heads, decapitated people, stoned or publically executed them before moving on to talk about ISIS and how they are the stark opposite of the west at least as far as laws and constitutions are concerned.
“For 1,400 years we have been slaughtering one another, just because one of us prays one way and another prays a different way,”
Shams Bandar said and concluded that 1400 years ago the USA was not there then why on earth is the Arab world blaming them for everything.

North Africa, BELONGS TO AFRICANS! It's not considered the Arab World/Land.
It's a fact, people. you're gonna have to deal with the truth. I'm not hating against the arabs or whites. I'm just letting the blind minded discern this truth. Clip of the Month: Rami Khouri on Global Values in the Arab World & Saudi Arabia’s Role
At a time when the rhetoric from and about the Middle East is given to extremes, it's not often that we have the opportunity to listen to a fair, reasonable, and authoritative voice from the region. In this clip, Rami Khouri, senior fellow at the American University of Beirut's Issam Fares Institute, argues that the majority of the Arab World seeks values like justice, accountability, and democrac

NEW YORK: The Statue of Liberty, a symbol of democracy and freedom that has greeted countless immigrants to US shores, was inspired by a project representing an Arab woman guarding the Suez Canal, researchers said.
The recent findings are especially startling for some in the United States amid a heated debate over the arrival of refugees from war-scarred Syria and other Muslim majority countries.
French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, who traveled to Egypt in 1855-1856, developed there a "passion for large-scale public monuments and colossal sculptures," said the US National Park Service, which guards the Statue of Liberty in New York.
When the Egyptian government sought proposals in 1869 to build a lighthouse for the Suez Canal, Bartholdi designed a huge statue of a robed woman holding a torch, which he called "Egypt (or Progress) Brings Light to Asia."
The sculpture originally took the "form of a veiled peasant woman," explained Barry Moreno, who has written about the statue, as quoted by the US-funded Smithsonian Institution.
"Bartholdi produced a series of drawings in which the proposed statue began as a gigantic female fellah, or Arab peasant, and gradually evolved into a colossal goddess," added Edward Berenson, who has also written about the subject.
At the time, most Egyptians were Muslims -- about 86 percent in Alexandria and Cairo, and 91 percent in other regions, according to the Smithsonian.
Bartholdi's second chance came when French historian Edouard de Laboulaye originated the idea of a monument presented by the French people to the United States representing "Liberty Enlightening the World."
In 1870, Bartholdi began designing the statue based on his previous design. It was inaugurated in 1886.

Documentary : The Incredible Life of The Richest Arab In The World
Home to 78 billionaires with an aggregate net worth of $209 billion, the Middle East claims just six female ten-digit fortunes. In this region, more than any other part of the world, wealth stays in the family: One third of the billionaires in the Middle East are related to each other.
Egypt’s Sawiris family and Mansour brothers comprise seven of the nation’s eight billionaires, while four Hariri brothers and two Mikati siblings make up Lebanon’s ultra-high-net worth individuals.
Turkey boasts the highest number of ten-digit fortunes, with 24 at last count. Israel is a close second, tallying 18 billion-dollar fortunes for a combined net worth of $51.75 billion. These two nations also claim the region’s only female billionaires – Israeli Shari Arison and Turkish Semahat Sevim Arsel, Suna Kirac, Ahsen Ozokur, as well as mother-daughter billionaires Deniz Sahenk and Filiz Sahenk.

Tunisia has the highest divorce rate in the Arab world, with around half of all marriages ending in divorce. This report follows the lives of three very different families to see how they cope with the consequences.
"Why do you keep strangling yourself? Is it because mum and dad got divorced? Everyone gets divorced", says 10-year-old Kusay's grandmother. The reason most often given for Tunisia's high divorce rate is the country's Personal Status Code, a set of laws designed to promote women's rights. Chedli Al-Rahmeni is the judge in charge of divorce cases at the Ariana Court in Tunis. He's seen thousands of couples wanting to separate, and knows the impact it has on their children. "Many of them pass through Tunis' Ariana court at least twice. First during their parent’s divorce, and then again when they react by breaking the law.

Egyptian-American journalist Mona Eltahawy has been one of the most visible reporters of the dramatic events in Egypt in recent years. In parallel with her coverage of revolutionary politics has been her call for social and sexual revolutions. Beaten, sexually assaulted and detained by riot police in Cairo in 2011, she called for a holistic campaign against sexual violence in Egypt. Her views on misogyny in the Arab world and what she describes as ' the Islamist hatred of women' have stirred controversy and link the quest for political freedom with radical freedom for women. What does the future hold for both of these revolutions?

*** Egyptian author Tarek Osman uncovers the history of the modern Arab world by tracing some of the great political dreams that have shaped it, from the 19th Century to the Arab Spring. Throughout the series, he focuses on two countries that are currently high on the news agenda: Egypt and Syria. As Tarek discovers, these are also the states from which many of the crucial characters and ideas in this story emerged. In the first episode, Tarek takes us back to Egypt's early 19th Century encounters with Europe and the flowering of Arab Liberalism. He traces the journey of the Islamic scholar al-Tahtawi, who spent several years in Paris in the 1820s and who became part of a burgeoning push to modernise his home country on his return to Egypt. Tarek explores how, in the early 20th Century, even as the Ottoman, British and French Empires asserted their power in the Arab world, a cultural renaissance or what was known as the Nahda, was spreading. This movement brought an explosion in literacy, campaigns for women's rights, and a flowering of artistic creativity. But then the First World War saw Britain and France cut a secret deal to divide parts of the Arab world between them. ***

The Billionaire Boys Club Of Dubai - Dubai's Luxury Life 2014 [Full Documentary]
Palm Hills, Egypt’s second-largest listed real estate developer, will begin investing in commercial properties next year and expand its residential operations to meet higher anticipated demand, its co-chief executive said on Thursday.
The return of foreign investors scared away by nearly four years of political turmoil is raising expectations for the company, which turned a corner after facing client cancellations and investigations into previous state land sales following a popular uprising in 2011.
A flight by foreign companies from violent unrest following the overthrow of elected President Mohammed Mursi in mid-2013 threatened to drive up vacancy rates at offices and malls and prompt international investors to shift funds to other markets.
But Tarek Abdel-Rahman said a nascent economic recovery fuelled by foreign investors - which the government is courting with structural reforms and an array of mega-projects - was creating demand for commercial space.
“With all these investments coming from the Gulf and coming from the West, sooner or later they will establish a foothold here,” he told Reuters in an interview at his office.
He did not say how much Palm Hills planned to invest in commercial property - a new business area for the company.
Egypt’s economy is set to grow 3.3 percent this fiscal year, according to economists polled by Reuters, who nudged up their forecasts as confidence has started to return. The projection is close to the government’s prediction of 3.5 percent growth.
Gulf Arab allies have supported Egypt with billions of dollars in aid since Mursi’s ousting.
Investors have more recently eyed Egypt's food industry, with bids from Kellogg Co, Dubai-based Abraaj Investment Group, and Denmark’s Arla Foods.
The real estate sector has also seen activity, with the UAE’s Aabar Investments and New York-based private equity firm Ripplewood taking stakes in Palm Hills this year.
Palm Hills has said it is targeting up to 35 percent of its revenues over the next three to five years to come from commercial properties.
It also plans new investments in its core activity of residential development, and is considering land purchases in east Cairo where current inventory is expected to have been sold by June.
