The bomb blasts in Karbala and Baghdad during the Shia Muslim commemoration of Ashura did more than rock the fragile stability of Iraq - they were a signal to the new power base in the country, the Shias, that their mosques, their shrines and their festivals will be targeted by extremists.
For the first time in three decades, Iraqi Shias were able to mark Ashura - the commemoration of the the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, grandson of the Prophet Mohammed - openly in Karbala.
Cameras followed Shia pilgrims from the UK, USA and Iraq as they wrestled with the decision to travel to Karbala and mark the first free Ashura in three decades.
The 90-minute film records pilgrims' decisions, Ashura itself and the intense emotions of the Shia mourning of Hussain's death. It includes footage of the bombings and their aftermath.

Erbil International Airport (IATA: EBL, ICAO: ORER), is the main airport of Erbil city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Erbil International Airport is centrally located on the Silk Road of the Airways. Following the liberation of Iraq in 2003, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to transform Erbil's former military base into a modern civil aviation airport to serve as a major gateway to the world. Erbil International Airport (EIA) officially opened on July 7, 2005, and it welcomed its first IATA carrier on 11th December 2006. The KRG has enacted favorable rules to attract foreign investors and to help citizens of the Kurdistan Region in exile return home. Domestic traffic, as well as regional traffic throughout the expansive Middle East, is growing. Kurdistan's great natural resources of oil, natural gas and other minerals are creating a flourishing and rapidly growing business environment. Kurdistan is previously in exile are returning, bringing with them connections to other lands. There is an ever stronger need for efficient air transport, for passengers as well as cargo. The Erbil area has a stable water supply, and is surrounded by scenic and accessible wilderness lands, with greenery, clean streams, waterfalls and caves. This stands in stark contrast to other Middle Eastern destinations, and visitors will fuel an important tourism industry in Kurdistan. These are some of the reasons that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and EIA have constructed and equipped an airport for the future, with capacity for three million passengers, and one of the world's longest runways, designed to accommodate the Airbus A380 and cargo aircraft of that class. The airport is the culmination of the vision and strategy put in place in 2003.

The destabilisation of Iraq in the past decade has contributed to the state of anarchy in the Middle East, the rise of extremism and the mushrooming of terrorism. To achieve stability, Iraq must be supported to achieve meaningful reforms and strong central government. Corruption, quota system and foreign intervention are among the illnesses of the country. What are the prospects of Iraq’s transformation into a sovereign, democratic and stable power? These challenges will be debated at this seminar.

Why America Invaded Iraq
Why did America invade Iraq in 2003? Was it for oil? Or was it because Saddam Hussein was a mass-murdering dictator who harbored terrorists and threatened the region with Weapons of Mass Destruction? If it was the former, wouldn't it have been a lot easier to just buy Iraq's oil on the open market? And if it was the latter, why did Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and John Kerry support President Bush?

EXCLUSIVE: VICE News Meets Barack Obama: http://bit.ly/1wT03Bi
Last summer, the group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) swept from Syria into northern Iraq, routing Iraqi security forces and seizing the city of Mosul. Soon afterward, the group declared the establishment of a dubious "caliphate" in the area it controls and rebranded itself the Islamic State. With Iraq's army weakened and radical militants advancing on Baghdad, the country's Iran-backed Shia militias — which have their own history of sectarian abuses — fought back, halting the Islamic State's progress.
The militias have successfully combated Islamic State fighters on the ground with the assistance of air strikes from a US-led military coalition. But their growing influence within Iraq's government amid accusations that they have harmed Sunnis in areas that they control has led many to fear that the militias threaten the country's fragile sectarian and political balance.
VICE News traveled to Iraq in December to witness firsthand how Shia militias are taking the fight to the Islamic State, and to document the fallout of their controversial rise to power.

What was life really like in Saddam’s Iraq? This week’s offering is the definitive documentary on the cult of Saddam Hussein. Filmed just before the first Gulf war, it depicts a prosperous and sophisticated society in which every aspect of life is coloured by ‘love’ for the ‘Great Leader’. Darkly ironic, this film captures the surreal and Orwellian nature of life under Saddam Hussein. In a country which today has lost even its most basic services, the testimony of this vanquished middle-class and the prosperity of their society resonates on many levels.

One of the largest decisions weighing on the shoulders of prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau is what role what role, if any, should Canada play in the war against ISIS. And how will Canadians know whether their efforts are having the intended results? Do we really know what our troops are doing in Iraq? Do we even know whether Coalition airstrikes are hitting intended targets?Bob McKeown reports from the front lines of Canada's war in Iraq and Syria.
Deep behind ISIS lines, two brave people agreed to talk to the fifth estate about what life is really like under brutal occupation. One is Rami, a young man who tells us his story as he sees his town destroyed and its citizens terrorized -- fearing all the while that he will be found out and killed. The other, Leila, is a journalist who made a treacherous journey overland to meet our team in Erbil, Iraq. She documents what she says is the little-known toll of civilian casualties from Coalition air strikes. Through their stories, a narrative emerges about fear of ISIS and of the bombs dropped from the sky. The fifth estate explores how the true reality of this war is hidden from all.

As violence escalates across the Middle East and North Africa, the United States remains the largest exporter of weapons to the region, and private US defense companies and contractors have opened local offices as the demand shows no sign of abating.
VICE News traveled to this year's International Defense Exhibition and Conference in the United Arab Emirates capital of Abu Dhabi to examine the competition between arms manufacturers vying for a greater portion of the lucrative market.
From Abu Dhabi we traveled to Iraq, where US weapons have fallen into the hands of non-state actors such as the so-called Islamic State militant group, Kurdish Peshmerga, and militias aligned with the Iraqi government. Rather than block sales, the US government and others actively promote them — ensuring there will be enough arms to fuel the region's wars and revolts for years to come.

Iraqi soldiers faced a a huge blast caused by the massive explosion of an IS Vbied right in front their position in Baiji Iraq. The soldiers were aware of the approaching vehicle and took cover behind a mound just moments before the detonation and following shockwave. The attack was filmed from an overwatch position behind the Iraqi line and gives a good overview of the happenings. The attack seems to have apparently failed since the Iraqi soldiers targeted by the SVBIED seem mostly unharmed after the explosion.
This footage is part of an ongoing documentary of the war in Iraq through raw combat footage.

Noted British historian, Andrew Roberts, has the answers.

During a recent interview, Donald Trump was asked if he would use nuclear weapons against ISIS. Trump said he wasn’t going to answer because he likes to keep his military strategy cards close to the vest. Cenk Uygur, hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"WRKO’s Jeff Kuhner asked Trump about the news that Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to nuke ISIS. “Would Donald Trump be open, like Putin, to using nuclear weapons to defeat Islamofascism and to wipe out ISIS?” he asked.
But Trump demurred on the question. “Now, understand what I’m saying; I don’t wanna give you an answer to that.”
Trump said he didn’t want America’s enemies to know his game plan. “Because part of the problem that we have with Obama is they’re so predictable, they give answers to everything. They sent troops over there and they announce they’re sending fifty people over there and now those troops have a target of their head.”
“So I don’t want to answer the question,” he said. “I will tell you this; we will be defeating ISIS big league.””*

As the Iraqi government threatens to expel all foreign mercenaries following the Blackwater shootout, the role of private military contractors is once again in the spotlight. There's no denying that the rise of the private military contractor is transforming the way we wage war. They earn four times more than regular soldiers, act with impunity and - in Iraq - outnumber all non-US soldiers combined. ‘Private Armies’ follows the training and deployment of these men. From skidding around a racing track, practising escaping from kidnappers, to dodging bullets in Baghdad, it’s an eye-opening look at life as a private soldier.

Iraq calls Turkish troop presence in the north a ‘hostile act’ and calls on the soldiers to withdraw
Iraq has summoned Turkey’s ambassador to demand that Turkish troops immediately withdraw from the north of the country.
Baghdad described their presence as a hostile act, saying Turkey had entered without the knowledge of the Iraqi government.
Ankara has acknowledged that it has sent 150 troops to the Mosul region on Friday to replace soldiers already helping in the conflict with ISIL.

Turkey has not withdrawn troops from Iraq

Iraq Tells Turkey To Withdraw Forces
Iraq's defense minister said on Sunday he had told his Turkish counterpart that hundreds of Turkish forces deployed inside Iraq near the Islamic State-held city of Mosul had been sent without informing or coordinating with Baghdad, and should be withdrawn.

“If we let Turkish forces get away with this and don’t do something then other forces will feel they can do the same – America, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Islamic countries,” said Hakim al-Zamili, the Head of Parliament’s Security and Defence Committee.
“Therefore this is an initial test and that’s why parliament has to do something.”
Turkey says it is training Iraqi Kurd forces who are confronting ISIL in the region, and released a number of photos showing the Turkish Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, with Peshmerga soldiers.
“Our solidarity is with Iraq,” said Davutoglu. “A country suffering from a terrible experience, and we want to help to eliminate terror from that country. Those who misinterpret this routine rotation are engaging in deliberate provocation. We have trained our Iraqi brothers in the Bashiqa camp, and others, to fight against ISIL.”
An Iraqi government spokesman in the north appeared to support Turkey’s interpretation, saying they had an agreement to expand the Bashiqa training operation.
The Turkish government insists the camp, 30km northeast of Mosul, was set up at the city governor’s request and in coordination with the Iraqi government.

The West has always repeated the mantra "Assad must go" but along the way it lost its breath and the chant was failing. Assad is still in the government and repeats that it must be the Syrian people to decide which government have. Strange behavior for a dictator.
One of the assumptions of the policy is that sometimes you must not always be picky with your fellow mates but in Syria you has gone beyond the accepting some strange bedfellow. While they try destroying Assad, the Americans and other NATO member states closely tied themselves to those who claim to be their sworn enemies since the September 11 attacks: the Islamic terrorists of Al-Qaeda and Associates.

Iraq's defense minister said on Sunday he had told his Turkish counterpart that hundreds of Turkish forces deployed inside Iraq near the Islamic State-held city of Mosul had been sent without informing or coordinating with Baghdad, and should be withdrawn. But Obeidi said the Turkish force was too large for such a purpose. Iraq's president, prime minister and foreign ministry have all objected to the Turkish deployment in recent days, calling it a hostile act and a violation of international law. Baghdad also summoned the Turkish ambassador to issue a formal protest. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Saturday it was a routine troop rotation and Turkish forces had set up a camp some 19 miles northeast of Mosul at the Mosul governor's request, and in coordination with the Iraqi Defence Ministry.

Operation Opera, also known as Operation Babylon and Raid on the Reactor, was a surprise Israeli air strike carried out on 7 June 1981, which destroyed an Iraqi nuclear reactor under construction 17 kilometers, 10.5 miles, southeast of Baghdad. The operation came after Iran's unsuccessful Operation Scorch Sword operation had caused minor damage to the same nuclear facility the previous year, the damage having been subsequently repaired by French technicians. Operation Opera, and related Israeli government statements following it, established the Begin Doctrine, which explicitly stated the strike was not an anomaly, but instead “a precedent for every future government in Israel.” Israel's counter-proliferation preventive strike added another dimension to their existing policy, as it related to the nuclear capability of other states in the region.
In 1976, Iraq purchased an "Osiris"-class nuclear reactor from France. While Iraq and France maintained that the reactor, named Osirak by the French, was intended for peaceful scientific research, the Israelis viewed the reactor with suspicion, and said that it was designed to make nuclear weapons. On 7 June 1981, a flight of Israeli Air Force F-16A fighter aircraft, with an escort of F-15As, bombed and heavily damaged the Osirak reactor. Israel claimed it acted in self-defense, and that the reactor had "less than a month to go" before "it might have become critical.Ten Iraqi soldiers and one French civilian were killed.
The attack was strongly criticized around the world, including in the United States, and Israel was rebuked by the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly in two separate resolutions.
After Operation Desert Storm, the free world quietly praised Israel for eliminating Iraq's Nuclear Treat, including France. Fact is, Iraq had plenty of oil for energy and absolutely no need for a nuclear reactor, except to research and build nuclear weapons.

Severe Clear documentary Iraq 2009

Shot by First Lieutenant Mike Scotti on his Mini-DV camera, and told through his own journal entries, Kristian Fraga's "Severe Clear" is more than a documentary. It is a first person account of the Marines who were on the front lines of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This is what they saw. In this digital age of embedded reporters and filmmakers directing their "war" pictures from the internet, "Severe Clear" strips the barriers between audience and soldier, personalizing the fear, moral conundrum and sheer adrenaline rush of life on the battlefield. The personal story of Mike Scotti and the Marines in his unit is the backbone of this intimate, extreme and often times horrific tale. The story begins with Scotti on a 40-day voyage across the Arabian Sea, aboard the USS Boxer, where his days are filled with physical training, tactical study, and mental preparation. For the Marines, who have been in a constant state of war since the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, the political wrangling of world leaders and diplomatic debates over the merits of UN resolutions are nothing but a smoke screen for a war they all know is inevitable. So they train, blow off steam, and wait. The forces reach Kuwait, but there is more waiting to be done. That is, until President Bush addresses the nation and orders the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As they push onto Baghdad, patriotism and youthful enthusiasm gradually gives way to the real, brutal horrors of war. As the resistance to their presence escalates, Scotti and his fellow soldiers are forced to come to grips with the magnitude of the situation they find themselves in. Severe Clear is a motion picture that captures the chaos and complexity of war.

A rare Israeli account inside Syria and Iraq about the fight against ISIS. Itai Anghel and Eddie Gerald spent two weeks on the front line to bring that account:- ISIS prisoners tell their philosophy that led them to beheading, burning, raping and killing everybody who is different from them.
- A journey with the Kurdish guerrilla in Iraq (PKK) and in Syria (YPG and YPJ) who are the only people who dare to confront ISIS on the ground. - The Kurdish women fighters who became the nightmare of ISIS. Apparently, if a woman kills an ISIS fighter he would not get to heaven and wont win the 72 virgins who, according to his belief, are awaiting him the moment he dies as a martyr. - The dismantling of Iraq and Syria as states as we knew them.

Using a wealth of different sources, Robert Greenwald's 2004 film investigates the motives and pretexts of the administration of former President George W. Bush for going to war in Iraq after 9/11.

Greenwald's film dissects the different catalysts leading to the war, from the media's treatment of the issue to the practice of "data mining." A panel of experts lend their voices to this examination, including CIA analysts, a former CIA director, previous ambassadors and a weapons inspector.

3:33 Just one day after the September eleventh attacks, the Bush administration began its plans for the invasion of Iraq, claiming the country had possession of nuclear weapons; despite a complete lack of evidence.
7:11 The Bush Administration rounded up people who could create talking points for the invasion of Iraq. Those who raised questions against them were simply told to "sit down and shut up"
11:50 The Bush Administration edited and censored the official National Intelligence Estimate, modifying the meanings of revealing facts that would damage their facade.
14:15 Despite the claims that the war in Iraq was part of the war on terror, there are no real connections between Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden. In fact, they were even adversaries
17:42 The CIA's so called defector, Ahmed Chalabi was a political exile from his own country. For Ahmed, the war was simply a way back into Iraq
23:08 At the 2003 state of the union speech, Bush distorted and lied left and right, breaking national law.
29:10 Bush's claims of Hussein's uranium deal with Africa were not only untrue, but vengeful - and very nearly deadly - actions were taken against those who spoke out.
36:06 In Secretary of State Powell's Address to The United States we were shown photos of so called "Chemical Bunkers" that Hussein was apparently using to produce biological weapons, and once again: there was no evidence to support these claims.
45:23 Essentially all information regarding weapons of mass destruction came from one sole source, and that source was the pentagon
53:05 Taking a look back in time, we begin to see suspicious conflictions between what was said then, and before the war.
56:25 The United States spends billions on their search for nothing, while refusing to release an informed cost estimate.
59:12 David Kay chronicles his extensive study and search for evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and how he found nothing but lies.
1:06:42 For those behind the war, war comes first, not last. For them, The United States’ military power should be used whenever trouble arises; and wherever there’s profit to be made.
1:14:00 War is a blunt tool that doesn't work, it has tarnished our image overseas, created countless more terrorists and ruined governments. It is our job as Americans to speak out against the abuse of power, and question everything.

Video collection of the battles of Iraq army against ISIS. Indeed this video is not fresh one (1 - 1,5 month old), but quite informative. I apologize for publishing it so late, but I was slightly busy.
In general it contains scenes of the battle for Tikrit, but also there is a few scenes of the battle for Anbar Province.

THE WAR TAPES
(2006 Iraq War Documentary)
The War Tapes is the first documentary film of the 2003 invasion of Iraq to be produced by the soldiers themselves. The film (released commercially in 2006) follows three New Hampshire National Guard soldiers before, during, and after their deployment to Iraq about a year after the invasion. Their unit was Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain), which deployed from March 2004 to February 2005.
The three soldiers with cameras featured in the film are SPC Michael Moriarty who signed up in a burst of patriotism after 9/11 and asked to be shipped to Iraq. His colleagues are SGT Stephen Pink, who joined the National Guard to help pay for college, and SGT Zack Bazzi. Two other soldiers, SGT Duncan Domey and SPC Brandon Wilkins, also filmed their entire deployments for the film. In all, 17 soldiers were given cameras and recorded 800 hours of tape in Iraq. Stateside interviews with the soldiers and their families made up an additional 200 hours of tape. The "cast" was narrowed to three soldiers for the final feature length film. They were chosen in part because they were seen by the director and producers as the "main characters".
The film won the prize for Best International Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival in May 2006 and also Best International Documentary at BRITDOC in July 2006. The documentary was released for sale on DVD May 15, 2007. Moreover, it is possibly the most innovative result of the embedded reporter program. In this case the reporter did not go to Iraq, but provided cameras to the soldiers, and provided direction on filming to them via instant messaging and email.
