Jerry McManus of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory discusses how geochemical and isotopic tracers of the deep circulation throughout the last ice age from rapidly accumulating sediments in the North Atlantic Ocean document systematic association of variations in AMOC and abrupt climate change through glaciation and deglaciation. Diminished AMOC accompanied the millennial northern coolings, including the cold, stadial, portions of so-called “Dansgaard-Oeschger (DO) events” as well as the extreme stadial “Heinrich events” associated with catastrophic iceberg discharges. Perhaps most notably, rapid increases in AMOC, in the form of surges in the depth and export of North Atlantic Deep Water from the North Atlantic Basin, accompanied the dramatic northern warmings that punctuated the ice age, underscoring the important potential role of internal Earth systems in climate change.

Travel video about destination Macaronesia in Central Atlantic.
Macaronesia is a group of islands in the middle of the Central Atlantic located between America and Europe. Many of the islands are inhabited and each one has its own character. In spite of the large distances that separate the islands, both their wildlife and plant life are similar and each island is of volcanic origin. São Miguel is gateway to the Azores and is the largest and most densely populated island. The island’s capital, Ponta Delgada, boasts magnificent churches and monasteries plus a well-stocked market. Faial is one of the most visited islands in the archipelago and whose marina is well known throughout the world. Horta is the island’s capital and since 1976 has also been the seat of the Azores’ parliament. Madeira, the island of eternal springtime. A floating garden in the Atlantic with colourful flowers, wild beauty and exotic scents. Funchal is its capital. The city’s black and white paved main square is framed by three important historic buildings:the Town Hall, Bishop's Palace and the Jesuit College with its magnificent church. The Islas Canarias, islands of the dragon tree and happiness at the edge of the world! Lanzarote is the fourth largest island. At the southern end of the island is Playa Blanca with superb beaches and pristine bays. Cabo Verde is a tropical archipelago off the coast of Africa. In the north east of the islands is Sal, an island of both wind and sunshine. It is hard to believe that all this is set within the Mid-Atlantic. Each island is unique and with its own special charm. Macaronesia is an island world of indescribable beauty, charm, unspoiled nature and dramatic landscapes.

The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, just off Morocco in North Africa. Formed by volcanic eruptions and shaped by hot desert winds, they are comprised of 7 main islands.
When powerful seismic forces lifted these islands out of the ocean millions of years ago, they sculpted landscapes of unimaginable beauty. So spectacular are the Canary Islands that for centuries, it was believed that this archipelago formed the peaks of the legendary lost city of Atlantis.
Today, the Canary Islands are a magnet for sun seekers, beachcombers and adventurers from all over the world.
With, 160 miles of coastline, 150 beaches and a climate that feels like it is always spring, the island of Fuerteventura is a perfect place to slow down and relax.
A short ferry ride to the west of Fuerteventura is Gran Canaria - a place of ever changing climates and vistas.
This island abounds with otherworldly landscapes that have been inspiring visitors for centuries. Take a hike to Pilancones Natural Park. The spectacular plateaus and cool ravines in this area are around 12 million years old.
Tenerife, is the largest and busiest of the Canary Islands, receiving around 5 million visitors a year.
Or, choose to visit Lanzarote is the Canaries’ easternmost island and is sometimes called the “Island of 100 Volcanoes.”
Be humbled by Mother Nature’s destructive power on a tour of Timanfaya National Park. This region suffered a series of devastating eruptions in the 1700s and has remained largely unchanged ever since.
No matter which of these magnificent islands you choose, as the sun’s molten rays merge the ocean with the earth, you’ll realise this is a place where Mother Nature and history collide.
The mythical city of Atlantis may be a story, lost in the mists of time, but the Canary Islands are only a plane ride away. Whether you are searching for dramatic adventures or a sun-soaked vacation, this archipelago is alive with a powerful magic all its own.

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago situated in the Atlantic Ocean. This island is famous for stunning beaches, picturesque villages and year-round sunshine.
Just half an hour north of the international airport is Corralejo, one of the island’s largest resort towns and the perfect place from which to explore the Corralejo Dunes National Park.
At the island’s southern end is Morro Jable, a town famed for seafood restaurants and a picturesque lighthouse.
Gorgeous beaches run the length of the Jandia Peninsula, reaching all the way to Costa Calma. For something different, check out the pitch-black sands of Ajuy Beach.
Should you tire of Fuerteventura’s beaches, head inland to explore the island’s amazing volcanic landscapes and villages. Take the winding roads up to Mirador Morro Velosa on Mount Tegu for the best views on the entire island, then visit Puerto del Rosario, the island’s capital.
With it’s long Spanish history, Fuerteventura is also home to many romantic buildings and churches such as the parish church at La Oliva and the town hall in Pajara.
Cotillo is perhaps the most picturesque village on the entire island. Stroll the old harbour, which is still used by fisherman, and admire the original windmills.
In an archipelago acclaimed for beaches, Fuerteventura has been blessed with some of the biggest and most beautiful. Combined with its perfect weather and incredible landscapes, this is the perfect island to relax, recharge and reconnect with nature.

Travel video about destination Ireland.
Ireland is one of Europe’s most green and mysterious islands and everyone who visits this isolated island in the Atlantic Ocean is given a very warm welcome. Dublin is the capital of the Irish Republic and it is a city of musicians, poets and dreamers, as well as being a financial centre. Its many old buildings indicate its long and dramatic past. It was founded by the Vikings within a wonderful valley where the River Liffey flows into the Atlantic Ocean. After the Vikings, the Normans conquered the city and ruled over it for seven hundred years and under King Henry The Eighth Dublin became the capital of what was then a British colony. South west of Dublin is Kildare, the heart of Ireland’s horse racing. In 1902 the Irish national stud, Tully House, was founded there. Rich and eccentric Scottish brewery heir, Colonel William Hall-Walker, had the idea of a creating unique horse breeding scheme that would be based upon astrological calculation. The Wicklow Mountains are a natural paradise of mountains, swamps and lakes, beautiful valleys and a fascinating mountain landscape to the south of Dublin. Jerpoint Abbey near Thomastown dates back to the twelfth century and is one of the most beautiful Cistercian ruins in Ireland. It was founded in around 1160 by Donal Mac Gillapatrick, the King Of Ossory. The Cistercians built the monastery in characteristic style and one of the stone sarcophaguses is said to contain the bones of Holy Nicolas who was buried there by the Crusaders. Although much of it has remained unspoiled, Ireland has undergone much change. It is a land of great natural beauty, healthy commercial success and excellent hospitality: a wild green island set in the wild Atlantic Ocean!

Vacation travel video about destination Acores in Portugal.
The Azores islands are located between America and Europe and set amid the Atlantic Ocean, nine islands each with its own special landscape. São Miguel is Gateway to the Azores and the largest and most densely populated island of the Azores archipelago with steaming geysers, the opulent green of the tropics as well as numerous monasteries and settlements. Terceira is located in the middle of the archipelago. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries its natural harbour was an important port of call for numerous trading ships and Pacos Do Concelho, City Hall, indicates the city’s former prosperity. To the east of the island of Terceira is Serra Do Cume, a giant crater about ten kilometres wide. The interior of the crater consists of fields and pastures in which dairy cows graze peacefully. São Sebastião is probably the oldest settlement on the island and was where the first Portuguese settlers set foot ashore. Threatened by pirate attack, the people built fortified churches, decorated in Gothic splendour. Faial, the Blue Island, is one of the most visited islands in the archipelago and whose marina is well known throughout the world. It offers spectacular nature with a rocky coastline and volcanoes. Horta is the island’s capital and since 1976 has also been the seat of the Azores’ parliament. With their authentic nature and harmony, the Azores islands are still waiting to be discovered. A paradise set in eternal blue with islands that hold the secrets of nature and an abundance of local pride. Evergreen jewels set amid the Atlantic Ocean!

Madeira - a part of Portugal - is an island near the coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. The island has a mild climate and its main assets are its legendary flowers and natural beauties. Madeira’s name is strongly connected with the wine and a handcraft of the same name. In the center of the Wine Company we can taste and buy this fantastic drink as well as take a look at its history. In the mountain village of Monte lies the last Habsburg royalty, and this is the place where the famous toboggan sleds can be seen. Camacha is famous of its basket makers while Moniz of its cave spa. In Santana the tourists can see many thatched houses so characteristic of the island. The 1800 meters high mountains and the lush flora offer recreation for the hikers, mountaineers, parachutists and bikers. Barbados is the easternmost island in the Lesser Antilles. It is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, east of the other West Indies Islands.
The most important places to visit in Barbados are: Harrison's Cave (even on the hottest day in Barbados it's cool down below in this popular show cave, which is also a nice rainy-day option), Hunte's Garden (horticulturist Anthony Hunte has transformed a sink-hole in the middle of a rainforest into a lush and beautiful series of gardens that are open for tours that may include an encounter with Hunte himself), George Washington's House (George Washington really did sleep here -- he visited Barbados in his youth along with his brother, Lawrence, during his first foray outside what would later become (thanks to his leadership) the United States) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Barbados travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

St. Lucia is a sovereign island country in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique.
The most important places to visit in St. Lucia are: St Lucia Volcano (is the only drive-in volcano in the world. There are several pots of boiling water that are above the normal boiling point and many colors at the surface as a result of sulfur, iron, calcium oxide, copper oxide, magnesium, carbon and other mineral deposited there), St. Lucia Beaches (there are several magnificent beaches in St Lucia. All you have to do sometimes is bring along your snorkel gear, play a few games or pull out a beach chair and frolic in the sun), St Lucia Hiking (you will have the opportunity to see the national bird, a breath taking view of the tallest mountain in St Lucia, mount Gimie and the forestry reserves) and many more.

This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important St. Lucia travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

Travel video about destination Bahamas.
Nassau is the capital of the island of New Providence which is one of the many islands of the Bahaman archipelago that extends for almost a thousand kilometres between Cuba and Florida in the Atlantic Ocean. New Providence is the commercial and political centre and is more commonly known as the Bahamas.Built between 1805 and 1813 in typical American southern style, the pink-coloured buildings of Parliament Square are the headquarters of the Bahamian government. In front of the white columned Neo-Classical parliament building is a noble statue of the English queen, Victoria, as a young girl. The colourful Caribbean Straw Market is a lively place. There are lots of fascinating things to see including skilful craftsmen who carve traditional objects from mahogany. Bags, baskets and hats made of straw are offered as souvenirs. Along the coast there are several caves in which pirates once hid their ill-gotten gains or argued over buried treasure. Cable Beach boasts a multitude of exquisite modern hotel complexes that cater for every need and several of them possess a casino. Naturally, each has its own lavish bathing areas and a vast choice of exciting entertainment. On a small hill on the western outskirts of Nassau is Fort Charlotte, today a popular tourist destination on the periphery of the city The Bahamas: the very name conjures up remote sandy beaches and turquoise blue water, romantic sunsets and tropical nights. A place where fantastic dreams become wonderful reality.

Travel video about destination Islas Canarias.
ISLAS CANARIAS, islands of happiness on the edge of the world, a sun-soaked paradise in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the mainland of Africa. LANZAROTE is the archipelago’s fourth largest island at the southern end of which is Playa Blanca, once a fishing village and today a harbour. Rugged beauty born of fire and water, a volcanic paradise. And La Geria is a well-known wine growing region. FUERTEVENTURA is the second largest island of the Canary archipelago. In the extreme north of the island is Corralejo that developed into a ferry port and, within a fewdecades, a bustling holiday resort. GRAN CANARIA is the third largest of the seven Canary Islands. Las Palmas is the capital of the island and metropolis of the Canary archipelago, colourful and multicultural, with a great history. The palm lined Plaza Santa Ana is the centre of Vegueta in which both spiritual and temporal power have existed since the time of the conquistadors. Santa Ana Cathedra, an imposing brown stone building whose twin towers dominate the old town, has for centuries been the largest religious building in the Canary Islands. TENERIFE is known as the island of eternal spring. Santa Cruz De Tenerife, north east of the island, is its capital, port and commercial metropolis with classical buildings and splendid monuments that indicate its colourful past. The Canary Islands - picturesque, subtropical sun-filled pearls set within the Atlantic!

Vacation travel video about destination Madeira in Portugal.
Funchal is the capital of the Atlantic island of Madeira and is situated in a natural, picturesque bay, surrounded by steep mountain slopes. With churches, palaces, mansions, museums and magnificent gardens, it is a city of both character and history. The Museum Of Religious Art is to be found in the former bishop’s palace. The sugar trade with Antwerp meant that paintings and other works of art could be used as payment. Madeira has long been famous for its wine, stored in wooden barrels to mature and then exported all over the world. In the old rooms of a former monastery, it is pressed, matured and celebrated. At the beginning of a valley, São Vicente lies hidden beyond the steep slopes of the northern coastline. The tastefully restored centre of the village contains a seventeenth century church with a Baroque interior. There are gilded carvings, tile pictures and paintings on the altar. At an amazing acute angle, the gondola from the mountain station below the village of Achadas Da Cruz travels three hundred metres down to the coast and back. This most beautiful Baroque church on the north coast was established in São Jorge. Its external simplicity gives little hint of its internal beauty: gilded wood carvings and illusionist paintings adorn the church and its altar. To the east of Madeira is the natural bay of Machico, the oldest settlement on the island. Today, Madeira’s third largest city extends from the coast to the hills of the wide and fertile valley of the Machico River whose inhabitants live from the cultivation of fruit, vineyards and fishing. Its extraordinary landscapes and exotic fragrances have been captivating visitors for centuries. Madeira, wild beauty amid the Atlantic Ocean!

Vacation travel video about destination Tenerife in Spain.
Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands, captivating, mysterious and vibrant, the ‘island of eternal spring’. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and located just three hundred kilometres from the African continent.Santa Cruz De Tenerife, north east of the island, is its capital, port and commercial metropolis. The Capitania General, which once served as the seat of the island’s military governors, recalls the time of General Franco’s rule. In addition to the Canary’s flora and fauna, the abundant remains of an extinct culture is particularly interesting, the islands’ indigenous people, the Guanches. Well-preserved mummies, which have been found in numerous caves, document their mummification ritual. Puerto De La Cruz is located on the splendid north coast, a city where both old and new combine and with a fishing and harbour district that were founded around five hundred years ago. With its Neo Classical bell tower, the Francia De La Peña Church dominates among palms, oleander and hibiscus. Teide National Park contains solidified boulders of lava and pumice fields that originated from volcanic activity. A huge crater formed around five hundred thousand years ago when the primal Teide Volcano erupted repeatedly. An island born of fire and water where remarkable weather, mysterious volcanoes and deep blue sea determine everyday life and where vegetation and moon landscapes capture the attention. Tenerife is most certainly the priceless pearl of the Canary Islands.

Portugal. The 5 and half thousand square meters large southern part of the once proud colonial empire is Algarve, bathing all year in the sun. From the hilltops, moor forts look down on to the surroundings. In the old towns narrow roads lead up to the magnificent Manuel-style temples. The buildings are ornamented by Azulejos, moor painted tiles. The monuments and statues summon adventurers and explorers: Magellan and Vasco De Gama. The country is full of fishing villages, palm trees, vine arbours, olive tree orchards, and orange gardens. The Playa de Rocha and the other sandy beaches are surrounded by large cliffs, stone archs and lagoons. On the hill of Moniche we travel among pine trees and para oaks. From the lighthouse of the Saint Vincent cape we can only see the endless Atlantic Ocean, which the medieval man thought to be the end of the world.

Travel video about destination Golfe du Marbihan in France.
The Golfe Du Morbihan is situated on the south coast of Brittany and protects the region from the strong currents of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a fascinating coastal landscape with huge castles and extensive sand dunes.Influential and wealthy ship owners once settled here. They ran the East India Trading Company that earned high taxes for the French monarchy. The present day harbor makes it difficult to believe that it was once a busy centre of trade with the distant Orient. The town’s well preserved buildings indicate its former wealth and ferryboats travel to the village on the opposite side of the Lorient, which still boasts a splendid array of huge warehouses. The megaliths of Carnac are stone relics that are 1,000 years old and date back to the middle of the Neolithic Period. Although they have been analysed by scientists, they are nonetheless full of mystique as four long avenues of mighty stone known as ‘Alignments’ extend across 8 kilometres of scenic terrain. The enchanting medieval city of Auray is situated on a bend of the Rivière d'Auray that flows into the Golfe Du Morbihan. The city has earned its place in the history books of Brittany. Here, two families once fought to rule this land and a battle decided which one!The attractive charm of the Brittany landscape owes much of its allure to its picturesque old stone houses and idyllic bays. The Golfe Du Morbihan, with its numerous islands both large and small, is a French paradise set along the rugged Atlantic coast.

norwegian nature "The Atlantic Ocean Road or the Atlantic Road (Norwegian: Atlanterhavsveien) is a 8.3-kilometer (5.2 mi) long section of County Road 64 which runs through an archipelago in Eide and Averøy in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. The fixed link passes by Hustadvika, an unsheltered part of the Norwegian Sea, connecting the island of Averøy with the mainland and Romsdalshalvøya peninsula. The road runs between the villages of Kårvåg on Averøy and Vevang in Eida. The road is built on several small islands and skerries, which are connected by several causeways, viaducts and eight bridges—the most prominent being Storseisundet Bridge."

norwegian nature "The Atlantic Ocean Road or the Atlantic Road (Norwegian: Atlanterhavsveien) is a 8.3-kilometer (5.2 mi) long section of County Road 64 which runs through an archipelago in Eide and Averøy in Møre og Romsdal, Norway.

Miami is a city located on the Atlantic coast in southeastern Florida and the county seat of Miami-Dade County. The 42nd largest city proper in the United States, with a population of 408,568, it is the principal, central, and most populous city of the Miami metropolitan area, and the most populous metropolis in the Southeastern United States.
The most important places to visit in Miami are: Ocean Drive (the yearlong party atmosphere makes Ocean Drive the most exhilarating place in the United States), Art Deco Architecture (nowhere else in the world would you find such a concentration of colorful Art Deco style buildings), Vizcaya Museum and Gardens (a national historical landmark. It is a European style villa surrounded by lush gardens), Everglades (a unique natural environment. Get close and personal with alligators. Airboat rides are highly recommended), Beaches (some of the country's best beaches are here, and clearly the most fashionable) and many more.
If you want to save time and money, the most important Miami travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

One branch goes southeast, later to become the Canary Current as it passes northwest Africa and turns southwest. The other major branch continues north along the coast of northwestern Europe. It is thought to have a considerable warming

National Geographic Documentary | Mystery of the Bermuda Triangle HD | Science Documentaries HD
The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a loosely defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. According to the US Navy, the triangle does not exist, and the name is not recognized by the US Board on Geographic Names. Popular culture has attributed various disappearances to the paranormal or activity by extraterrestrial beings. Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents were spurious, inaccurately reported, or embellished by later authors. In a 2013 study, the World Wide Fund for Nature identified the world’s 10 most dangerous waters for shipping, but the Bermuda Triangle was not among them.
The first written boundaries date from an article by Vincent Gaddis in a 1964 issue of the pulp magazine Argosy, where the triangle's three vertices are in Miami, Florida peninsula; in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and in the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda. But subsequent writers did not follow this definition. Some writers give different boundaries and vertices to the triangle, with the total area varying from 1,300,000 to 3,900,000 km2 (500,000 to 1,510,000 sq mi). Consequently, the determination of which accidents have occurred inside the triangle depends on which writer reports them. The United States Board on Geographic Names does not recognize this name, and it is not delimited in any map drawn by US government agencies.
The area is one of the most heavily traveled shipping lanes in the world, with ships crossing through it daily for ports in the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean Islands. Cruise ships are also plentiful, and pleasure craft regularly go back and forth between Florida and the islands. It is also a heavily flown route for commercial and private aircraft heading towards Florida, the Caribbean, and South America from points north.

North Atlantic Ocean formed as a result of the breakup of the supercontinent of Pangea. The Central Atlantic opened as North America rifted away from northwest Africa (170 Ma). About 150 million years ago, South America rifted away from North America opening the Gulf of Mexico. About 80 million years ago the northern North Atlantic, between Europe and North America opened.

The North Atlantic Current is a powerful warm ocean current that continues the Gulf Stream northeast. West of Continental Europe it splits into two major branches. One branch goes southeast, later to become the Canary Current as it passes northwest Africa and turns southwest. The other major branch continues north along the coast of northwestern Europe. It is thought to have a considerable warming influence on the climate, although a minority have disputed this. Other branches include the Irminger Current and the Norwegian Current. Driven by the global thermohaline circulation, the North Atlantic Current is part of the wind-driven Gulf Stream which goes further east and north from the North American coast, across the Atlantic and into the Arctic Ocean.

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is a mid-ocean ridge, a divergent tectonic plate or constructive plate boundary located along the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, and part of the longest mountain range in the world. In the North Atlantic, it separates the Eurasian and North American Plates, whereas in the South Atlantic it separates the African and South American Plates. The Ridge extends from a junction with the Gakkel Ridge northeast of Greenland southward to the Bouvet Triple Junction in the South Atlantic. Although the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is mostly an underwater feature, portions of it have enough elevation to extend above sea level. The section of the ridge that includes the island of Iceland is also known as the Reykjanes Ridge. The ridge has an average spreading rate of about 2.5 cm per year.

The longest continuous military campaign of World War 2. The Battle for the Atlantic raged across the ocean from 1939 till 1945,pitting feared U-boats and other German naval warships against Allied shipping and troop convoys.

If anyone notices, most of the video is mirrored, expect the maps and the diagrams, so basically you probably won't even notice that it is mirrored, I don't know why I did this, probably was really bored.Would be kind of amusing to compare it to other versions of this video.

Titanic | The Unsinkable Giant That Sank | World Documentary Films
RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning of 15 April 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, UK, to New York City, US. The sinking resulted in the loss of more than 1,500 passengers and crew, making it one of the deadliest commercial peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. The RMS Titanic, the largest ship afloat at the time it entered service, was the second of three Olympic class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line, and was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast with Thomas Andrews as her naval architect. Andrews was among those lost in the sinking. On her maiden voyage, she carried 2,224 passengers and crew.
Wikimedia Commons has media related to RMS Titanic.
Under the command of Edward Smith, the ship's passengers included some of the wealthiest people in the world, as well as hundreds of emigrants from Great Britain and Ireland, Scandinavia and elsewhere throughout Europe seeking a new life in North America. A high-power radiotelegraph transmitter was available for sending passenger "marconigrams" and for the ship's operational use. Although Titanic had advanced safety features such as watertight compartments and remotely activated watertight doors, there were not enough lifeboats to accommodate all of those aboard due to outdated maritime safety regulations. Titanic only carried enough lifeboats for 1,178 people—slightly more than half of the number on board, and one-third her total capacity.
After leaving Southampton on 10 April 1912, Titanic called at Cherbourg in France and Queenstown (now Cobh) in Ireland before heading west to New York.[2] On 14 April 1912, four days into the crossing and about 375 miles (600 km) south of Newfoundland, she hit an iceberg at 11:40 p.m. ship's time. The collision caused the ship's hull plates to buckle inwards along her starboard side and opened five of her sixteen watertight compartments to the sea; the ship gradually filled with water. Meanwhile, passengers and some crew members were evacuated in lifeboats, many of which were launched only partly loaded. A disproportionate number of men were left aboard because of a "women and children first" protocol followed by some of the officers loading the lifeboats.[3] By 2:20 a.m., she broke apart and foundered, with well over one thousand people still aboard. Just under two hours after Titanic foundered, the Cunard liner RMS Carpathia arrived on the scene of the sinking, where she brought aboard an estimated 705 survivors.
The disaster was greeted with worldwide shock and outrage at the huge loss of life and the regulatory and operational failures that had led to it. Public inquiries in Britain and the United States led to major improvements in maritime safety. One of their most important legacies was the establishment in 1914 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), which still governs maritime safety today. Additionally, several new wireless regulations were passed around the world in an effort to learn from the many missteps in wireless communications—which could have saved many more passengers.[4]
The wreck of Titanic remains on the seabed, split in two and gradually disintegrating at a depth of 12,415 feet (3,784 m). Since her discovery in 1985, thousands of artefacts have been recovered and put on display at museums around the world. Titanic has become one of the most famous ships in history, her memory kept alive by numerous books, folk songs, films, exhibits, and memorials.

Iceland
Listeni/ˈaɪslænd/; Icelandic: Ísland [ˈistlant]) is a Nordic island country between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. It has a population of 329,100 and an area of 103,000 km2 (40,000 sq mi), making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe.[11] The capital and largest city is Reykjavík. Reykjavík and the surrounding areas in the southwest of the country are home to over two-thirds of the population. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate, despite a high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle.
According to Landnámabók, the settlement of Iceland began in 874 CE when the Norwegian chieftain Ingólfr Arnarson became the first permanent settler on the island.[12] In the following centuries, mainly Norwegians and to a smaller extent other Scandinavians settled Iceland, bringing with them thralls of Gaelic origin. From 1262 to 1814, Iceland was ruled by Norway and afterwards by Denmark. The country became independent in 1918 and a republic in 1944.
Until the 20th century, Iceland relied largely on fishing and agriculture. Industrialisation of the fisheries and Marshall Plan aid following World War II brought prosperity and Iceland became one of the wealthiest and most developed nations in the world. In 1994, Iceland became party to the European Economic Area, which supported diversification into economic and financial services.
Affected by the ongoing worldwide financial crisis, the nation's entire banking system systemically failed in October 2008, leading to a severe depression, substantial political unrest, the Icesave dispute, and the institution of capital controls. The economy has since made a significant recovery, in large part due to a surge in tourism.[13][14][15]
Except for the capital controls, Iceland generally has a free-market economy with relatively low taxes compared to other OECD countries.[16] It maintains a Nordic social welfare system that provides universal health care and tertiary education for its citizens.[17] Iceland ranks highly in economic, political and social stability and equality. In 2013, it was ranked as the 13th most-developed country in the world by the United Nations' Human Development Index.[9] Iceland runs almost completely on renewable energy.
Icelandic culture is founded upon the nation's Scandinavian heritage. Most Icelanders are descendants of Germanic and Gaelic (Celtic) settlers. Icelandic, a North Germanic language, is descended from Old Norse and is closely related to Faroese and West Norwegian dialects. The country's cultural heritage includes traditional Icelandic cuisine, Icelandic literature and medieval sagas. Iceland has the smallest population of any NATO member and is the only one with no standing army, its lightly armed coast guard being in charge of defence.

Cephalopods are charismatic (and photogenic) mollusks that are found throughout the world’s oceans and estuaries. In this Science Café, Liz Shea will discuss the occurrence and distribution of cephalopods in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean. She will highlight squids and octopods that live in and around the seamounts and canyons that occur along the U.S. continental slope and will discuss methods for collecting images and voucher specimens for natural history museum collections. Please join us after Dr. Shea’s Science Café for a special screening of “Pathways to the Abyss” in the SECU Daily Planet Theater. This 18-minute piece captures the efforts to understand deepwater canyon ecosystems during a mission led by a North Carolina researcher. Several members of the collaborative research team will be on hand to answer questions afterwards.
Dr. Liz Shea is Curator of Mollusks at the Delaware Museum of Natural History (DMNH) where she is responsible for the care and growth of one of the largest collections of gastropods, bivalves and cephalopods in the country. Prior to joining DMNH in 2006, Shea was a post-doc at the National Research Council, working with the National Systematics Laboratory in Washington, DC. Shea has a Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr College, and a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary.

Assassin's Creed: Rogue is an upcoming sandbox action adventure game, due to be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 11 November 2014 in the United States, 13 November globally, and early 2015 on PC. Rogue follows the story of the Templar Shay Cormac between 1752 and 1761, during the Seven Years' War, and is the closing chapter in the Kenway saga.
The primary locations in the game are New York, the River Valley and the North Atlantic Ocean. The North Atlantic is an icy water-based region, where icebergs can be used as cover during naval combat, as well as broken to reveal frozen cargo and Animus data fragments. With the help of an ice-breaker ram, navigation is supplemented and additional secret areas can be reached. Meanwhile, the River Valley is a hybrid of land-based and naval gameplay, with seamless river navigation integrated into a map reminiscent of the Frontier from Assassin's Creed III.

"The continued collapse... it appears the worldwide 'real' economy has ground to a halt!!
Last week, I received news that no ships are at sea right now, because operating them meant running at a loss.
This weekend, reports are circulating saying much the same thing: The North Atlantic has little or no cargo ships traveling in its waters. Instead, they are anchored. Unmoving. Empty.
Commerce between Europe and North America has literally come to a halt. For the first time in known history, not one cargo ship is in-transit in the North Atlantic between Europe and North America. All of them (hundreds) are either anchored offshore or in-port. NOTHING is moving.
This has never happened before. It is a horrific economic sign; proof that commerce is literally stopped.
We checked VesselFinder.com and it appears to show no ships in transit anywhere in the world. "

wn.com/Breaking No Cargo Ships On Sea Commerce Has Halted Revelation 18 17
Go to time: 9:30 to hear Breaking News!

[ National Geographic ] Drain the Bermuda Triangle Nat Geo Wild ( Full Documentary )
