At the British Transport Docks Research Station in Southall, Middlesex, we see various shots of scientists and engineers looking at large model of a coastal area to discover the best methods for building docks and what effect the sea will have on a structure. A scientist in a white coat looks at a graph coming out of a machine. Another puts small blocks against a tide coming in on another part of the machine. At Didcot, Oxfordshire, we see several shots of a working model of the River Thames, from Southend to Teddington, built to solve the flood problem. Model tanker ships move along the river and men lower a barrier across the flow at one point near Long Reach to prevent the surge of tide going through to London. Commentator talks of a permanent dam fitted with locks and sluices being planned to control the river - probably Thames Barrier.
