The Blue Crew grows again, with the addition of a Porsche Cayman GT4 in Sapphire Blue! I head to Porsche Centre Colchester to collect the new car before setting off immediately on an adventure returning to the South of France to unite it with the McLaren 675LT and Ferrari FF that are based in Monaco.
The GT4 is a special edition in the Cayman line, with a 385PS 3.8l Flat 6 taken from the 911 Carrera S, suspension components from the 911 GT3, a 6-speed manual gearbox and numerous new aerodynamic parts. This car was built to be a true driver's machine and it really and truly ticks all of the required boxes.
No doubt coming as a surprise to many Shmee150 followers, the car has been on order from Porsche Colchester for many months and we've hinted at it along the way such as at the Frankfurt motorshow and via the Shmee150 Facebook pages, but never announced it was coming just to complete the surprise!
The car itself is spec'd to be more for regular road use with the Adaptive Sports Seats and no cage/harnesses, along with creature comforts like Cruise Control and Heated Seats. It has a number of Exclusive options such as silver seatbelts to match the silver stitching and trim around the black alcantara and leather, and a pair of body colour matched keys. All of the usual technology options can be found such as adaptive Xenons, entertainment system, upgraded hifi, and more.
I'd like to extend a big thank you to Porsche Centre Colchester and in particular to Richard Eniffer for the work to prepare the car and have it ready to time with the launch, which was no easy task.

The company was founded as Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche, an Austrian engineer born in Maffersdorf, during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Porsche's son-in-law Anton Piëch, an Austrian lawyer.
Porsche is the owner of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG (Porsche AG), and in June 2007 became a holding company for its stake in Porsche Zwischenholding GmbH (50.1%) (which in turn holds 100% of Porsche AG) and Volkswagen AG (50.7%). In August 2009, Porsche SE and Volkswagen AG reached an agreement that the two companies would merge in 2011, to form an "Integrated Automotive Group". During December 2009, Porsche SE lost control of Porsche Zwischenholding GmbH, which as a result is now a joint venture between Porsche SE and Volkswagen AG.

The Blue Crew grows again, with the addition of a Porsche Cayman GT4 in Sapphire Blue! I head to Porsche Centre Colchester to collect the new car before setting off immediately on an adventure returning to the South of France to unite it with the McLaren 675LT and Ferrari FF that are based in Monaco.
The GT4 is a special edition in the Cayman line, with a 385PS 3.8l Flat 6 taken from the 911 Carrera S, suspension components from the 911 GT3, a 6-speed manual gearbox and numerous new aerodynamic parts. This car was built to be a true driver's machine and it really and truly ticks all of the required boxes.
No doubt coming as a surprise to many Shmee150 followers, the car has been on order from Porsche Colchester for many months and we've hinted at it along the way such as at the Frankfurt motorshow and via the Shmee150 Facebook pages, but never announced it was coming just to complete the surprise!
The car itself is spec'd to be more for regular road use with the Adaptive Sports Seats and no cage/harnesses, along with creature comforts like Cruise Control and Heated Seats. It has a number of Exclusive options such as silver seatbelts to match the silver stitching and trim around the black alcantara and leather, and a pair of body colour matched keys. All of the usual technology options can be found such as adaptive Xenons, entertainment system, upgraded hifi, and more.
I'd like to extend a big thank you to Porsche Centre Colchester and in particular to Richard Eniffer for the work to prepare the car and have it ready to time with the launch, which was no easy task.

“This car garners attention from everyone,” says Grant Karnes, “and I think it kind of draws everybody in to what Porsche is.”
Owned by a family friend who later sold it to his father, Karnes had known about and lusted after this particular car for years. A Porsche 911 Turbo, otherwise called the “930”, is a car worth lusting after. For a time, it was one of the fastest production cars in the world, and in stock form is still a strong performer. That said, Karnes did see a problem once he got a hold of his dream car.
“It probably hadn’t been driven enough,” he said. “You know, a 930 begs to be driven.”
Driving it in stock form for a while, Karnes eventually decided to lightly, gently modify the car. “Headers, exhaust, wastegate…” and the list goes on. Why?
“I really had two objectives in the project,” Karnes says, “One was to really preserve the originality of the car and its ability to be returned to stock, and the second was that I really wanted to unleash the potential and see what the 930 was.”
For Karnes, the 930 is a car that fits his personal philosophy perfectly. The car isn’t just an iconic shape or startling performance, it’s about how Porsche managed to harmoniously bring those elements together.

Der 911 ist seit über 50 Jahren das Herzstück der Marke Porsche. Mehr als 820.000 Einheiten wurden bisher gebaut, sieben Generationen gibt es. Im Film schildern Besitzer und Sammler, was für sie die Faszination des bekanntesten Sportwagens von Porsche ausmacht.
Der Ur-Elfer startete 1963 auf der Internationalen Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) in Frankfurt als Typ 901 und wurde dann 1964 zur Markteinführung in 911 umbenannt. Der Grund: Peugeot reklamierte die 0 in der Mitte für sich.
Die Anfänge des Kultautos
Die sogenannten Väter des 911 - das sind Herbert Linge (Werksfahrer), Peter Falk (Fahrwerksingenieur), Hans Mezger (Motorenbauer) und Eugen Kolb (Karosseriezeichner) kommen noch einmal zusammen und erzählen von den Anfängen des Kultautos: Fast wäre aus dem 911er ein Viersitzer geworden.
"Mein Kindheitstraum"
Auch Richy Müller, der SWR-Tatort-Kommissar, fährt nicht nur im Film sondern auch privat einen Porsche 911- "mein Kindheitstraum", sagt der ehemalige Werkzeugmacher.
Walter Röhrl steigt auf dem Nürburgring in einen 911er, aus dem Geburts-Jahr 1964. "Porsche fahren", sagt er, "ist was für Männer, nicht für Bübchen".
"Der 911er ist meine Droge"
Die Amerikaner sind verrückt nach dem Porsche 911, dort verkauft das Unternehmen auch die meisten Modelle. Der verrückteste unter ihnen ist Magnus Walker. "Der 911er ist meine Droge und meine Religion. Manche gehen in die Kirche, ich gehe in meine Garage."
Klaus Bischof, als ehemaliger Museums-Chef der beste Kenner der Porsche Historie, ist unterwegs auf der Suche nach einem alten 911er. Im Elsass wird er fündig - Baujahr 1969, restaurationsbedürftig.
