Republican Presidential Debate 2015 Full GOP Republican Debate FOX Business Network Full Republican Presidential Debate 2015 GOP Debate FOX Business Network All told, the candidates spent no time attacking a reasonably well-moderated debate, and although there were a few intra-candidate attacks, none seemed particularly notable. Marco Rubio was polished. Rand Paul played a bigger role than he has in previous debates. Donald Trump was relatively reserved. Ben Carson certainly helped himself with his performance. Carly Fiorina acquitted herself okay, too. I can't see this debate stopping Jeb Bush's slide or doing anything significant for John Kasich. On foreign policy, the interventionism of the field as a whole is intense. On domestic policy, all have aired tax plans that have no chance of becoming law. The winner: Americans, because this debate lasted about two rather than three hours. —Conor Friedersdorf
11:20 pm: Takeaway from Milwaukee: Brace for a new round of Rubio-rising stories. He came into this debate with momentum and he performed to expectations. His trendline is up and will keep going up, though questions remain about his ability to turn elite opinion into votes. Jeb was practically a nonfactor. He is just not good at this, and besides a couple of prescripted answers, he did nothing to stand out. The Jeb-death-watch narrative will also continue after this. Trump was sort of subdued, but he's never that good in debates. Same with Carson—his voters don't care that he's borderline incoherent on any substantive questions. Kasich, as usually, seems to have infuriated base conservatives while appealing to moderates and liberal Republicans. Cruz was also strong. Like the last debate, he and Rubio are going to get the buzz out of this.
In a lot of ways this debate ratifies the status quo going in. No game-changers in that sense. Rand Paul showed up for the first time, but it's not clear he has much of a constituency in this party. —Molly Ball
11:18 pm: At the start of the debate, I wondered whether Jeb Bush’s decision to hire a media trainer would show on the debate stage and it did, a little bit. Bush’s delivery seems to have improved, but maybe not enough to get him out of his low polling digits. Meanwhile, Marco Rubio again delivered a strong performance. What the two didn’t do is go head-to-head like they had in the last Republican debate. Maybe because doing so just wouldn’t work. It certainly didn’t for Bush then and it’s unlikely it would have for Rubio tonight. And it also may answer the question my colleague Russell Berman noted earlier: Will Bush leave his Super PAC to do the dirty work? Looks like that’s a strong possibility. —Priscilla Alvarez

11:14 pm: Cruz: "If we get back to the free-market principles and constitutional liberties that built this country, we can turn this nation around." —Molly Ball
11:13 pm: In contrast, Spain needs a divider-in-chief to amicably part with the Catalonians and Basques. —Conor Friedersdorf

Carly Fiorina
For the second debate in a row, Fiorina was once again the breakout star of the night, taking on Republican front-runner Donald Trump with finesse and capturing the crowd with polished, zinging answers and an impassioned charge against abortion.
Fiorina earned perhaps the biggest applause of the night as she skewered Planned Parenthood.
Fiorina dodged an early opportunity to hit Trump but didn't make that mistake again when she was asked to address the businessman's recent comments about her appearance to Rolling Stone, in which he suggested her face would make her unelectable.
Fiorina takes on Trump
New York journalist and CNN contributor Errol Louis said after the debate that Fiorina was "the clearest winner."
Marco Rubio
Rubio proved Wednesday night why so many GOP elites have long considered him a top contender for the Republican nomination: He can weave his strong handle of policy with a compelling personal narrative.
Rubio took on Trump differently than Fiorina or Bush, dispatching the front-runner without attacking him directly, instead steering the debate toward his strengths.
When Trump pointed out Rubio's voting absences in the Senate, Rubio refused to retort with an attack of his own.
Jeb Bush
"You know what? As it relates to my brother, there's one thing I know for sure. He kept us safe," Bush told Trump to one of his strongest applause moments of the night. "You remember the fire fighter with his arms around it? He sent a clear signal that the United States would be strong and fight Islamic terrorism, and he did keep us safe."
And he also successfully tackled Trump over the billionaire's suggestion that Bush's Mexican-American wife was the reason for his support for comprehensive immigration reform.
"To subject my wife into the middle of a raucous political conversation was completely inappropriate, and I hope you apologize for that, Donald," Bush said. "Why don't you apologize to her right now." Trump declined.
Chris Christie
"While I'm as entertained as anyone by this personal back-and-forth about the history of Donald and Carly's career, for the 55-year-old construction worker out in that audience tonight who doesn't have a job, who can't fund his child's education, I've got to tell you the truth. They could care less about your careers, they care about theirs," Christie said. "Let's start talking about that on this stage and stop playing -- and stop playing the games."
Earlier in the night, Christie suggested the problem with the debate was "we're fighting with each other up here" over how to approach defunding Planned Parenthood even though "we agree."
Unclear
Donald Trump
Trump stumbled in responding to Fiorina's deft answer to his comments about her face, awkwardly calling her "beautiful" after suggesting her looks would keep Americans from voting for her.
Former Bush aide and CNN political commentator Ana Navarro spoke highly of the move.
And when Bush attacked him for a "lack of judgment" and "lack of understanding about how the world works," Trump resorted to an oft-used tactic of tying Bush to his brother's presidency suggesting that "your brother's administration gave us Barack Obama because it was such a disaster ... that Abraham Lincoln couldn't have been elected."
Bush's quick answer -- that his brother kept the country safe -- knocked Trump off balance as the crowd roared in approval.
And as he faced questions over foreign policy and his flubbed response to conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, who was one of the debate's questioners, Trump smartly pivoted to Hewitt, insulating himself from further attacks from his rivals.
Conservative analyst Mercedes Schlapp said Trump was silent for more than 30 minutes of discussion n serious policy issues.

Ahead of tonight’s Republican presidential debate, CNN gave reporters, including from The Daily Caller, a behind-the-scenes tour of the debate stage in Las Vegas.
Here’s what to know about the format:
CNN and Facebook are the hosts of the debate.
The debate is being held at the Venetian hotel and casino in Las Vegas.
It’s the last televised debate of the year.
There are actually two debates. An early “undercard” debate starting around 6 p.m. EST for four candidates and a primetime debate of the top nine polling Republican presidential candidates at around 9 p.m. EST.
The debate is airing on CNN and online at CNN.com. Radio partner, the Salem Radio Network, is also airing the debate live.
The moderator is Wolf Blitzer. Questioners will include Dana Bash of CNN and Hugh Hewitt of Salem Radio Network.
There will be four candidates at the first debate: Lindsey Graham
38%
, Mike Huckabee, George Pataki, Rick Santorum. It will start airing sometime between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. EST.
CNN’s Anderson Cooper will lead a “halftime” show between the debates. CNN will add other podiums at halftime for the primetime debate between Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz
97%
, Carly Fiorina, John Kasich, Rand Paul
93%
, Marco Rubio
79%
and Donald Trump.
The primetime debate will start at 9 p.m. The national anthem will be sung by Ayla Brown, the daughter of former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown.
Opening statements will actually start before 9 p.m. in reverse polling order, so Rand Paul will be the first to speak and Donald Trump will be the last. Each candidate will have a one minute opening statement and a 30 second closing statement.
The two-hour debate will end at about 11 p.m. EST.
Candidates and campaigns can go to the so-called spin room afterwards to talk to the media after the debate.
In the debate hall, there will be 17 cameras. There are about 1,300 seats. On every podium, candidates have water, a pad of paper and a pen. Candidates are not allowed to bring anything with them, including any electronics or notes.

A Short Bio on Rand Paul
Senator Rand Paul, M.D. is one of the nation’s leading advocates for liberty. Elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010, Dr. Paul has proven to be an outspoken champion for constitutional liberties and fiscal responsibility. As a fierce advocate against government overreach, Rand has fought tirelessly to return government to its limited, constitutional scope.
A devoted husband and father, Dr. Paul and his family live in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where Rand owned his own ophthalmology practice and performed eye surgery for 18 years. As a hard-working and dedicated physician--not a career politician--Rand Paul came to Washington to shake things up and to make a difference.
Dr. Paul has been married for 24 years to Kelley Ashby Paul of Russellville, Kentucky, and together, they have three sons: William, 21; Duncan, 18; and Robert, 15. He regularly volunteered to coach teams for each of his three sons in Little League baseball, soccer, and basketball. Rand and Kelley are both devout Christians and are active in their local church.
Rand is the third of five children born to Carol and Ron Paul. He grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas and attended Baylor University. He graduated from Duke Medical School in 1988. Dr. Paul completed a general surgery internship at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Duke University Medical Center. Upon completion of his training in 1993, Rand and Kelley moved to Bowling Green to start their family and begin his ophthalmology practice.
In 1995, Rand founded the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic, an organization that provides eye exams and surgery to needy families and individuals. Rand is a former president and 17 year member of Lions Clubs International, which is dedicated to preserving sight by providing eyeglasses and surgery to the less fortunate around the world. In recognition of his outstanding and sustained efforts to provide vision care to Kentuckians in need, Lions Clubs International has awarded Rand many of its highest commendations.
A large part of Rand's daily work as an ophthalmologist was dedicated to preserving the vision of our seniors. In 2002, The Twilight Wish Foundation recognized Rand for Outstanding Service and Commitment to Seniors.
During his free time, Dr. Paul performs pro-bono eye surgeries for patients across Kentucky. Additionally, he provides free eye surgery to children from around the world through his participation in the Children of the Americas Program. Most recently, he traveled to Guatemala on a medical mission trip with the University of Utah's Moran Eye Center. During the week over 200 patients, many of them blind with cataracts, had their vision restored by Dr. Paul.
Dr. Paul's entrance into politics is indicative of his life’s work as a surgeon: a desire to diagnose problems and provide practical solutions, whether it be in Bowling Green, Kentucky or Washington, D.C.
Randal Howard "Rand" Paul (born January 7, 1963) is an American physician and politician from Kentucky. In office since 2011, Paul currently serves in the United States Senate as a member of the Republican Party. He is also a trained ophthalmologist, and is the middle son of former U.S. Representative and physician Ron Paul of Texas.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Paul attended Baylor University and is a graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine. Paul began practicing ophthalmology in 1993 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and established his own clinic in December 2007.
Paul has been considered a supporter of the Tea Party movement, and a vocal critic of the Federal Reserve System. He has opposed NSA mass surveillance of Americans and supports reduced government spending and taxation. He describes himself as "100% pro-life" and has cosponsored legislation for equal protection of the right to life from conception. Paul officially announced his candidacy for the 2016 U.S. presidential election on April 7, 2015.

GOP Presidential Candidates Prepare for 4th Republican Debate
tomorrow. No spoilers here. I'm on debate duty. Look at the strip right there. Hottest ticket in town. Donald Trump right now, the strong front-runner. They are preparing for a prize fight. We'll tick a look inside the venetian where the debate will take place, nine candidates up on that stage, Donald Trump center stage once again. The gop front-runner growing even stronger in the polls topping our new ABC news/"washington post" poll with 38% but that trump rally last night got ugly and ABC's Cecilia Vega starts is off in Las Vegas. Good morning, Cecilia. Reporter: Robin, good morning to you. Because of those polls Ted Cruz for the very first time will be standing right next to Donald Trump on that stage here in just a few hour, but as you mentioned about that rally last night very disturbing allegations about things that were said as protesters were being taken out of that room. Take a listen. Overnight a Donald Trump rally in Las Vegas turning ugly. Protesters repeatedly interrupting his speech as a man is being removed. It's unclear who but someone yells "Light him on fire." Light the On fire. Bye-bye. Reporter: Overnight Donald Trump lobbing a preemptive strike across the bow at the man coming dangerously close to his lead. Trump, 41%, Cruz, 14%. And everyone else much lower, I mean, somewhere. Reporter: Texas senator Ted Cruz posing a very real threat to the reality TV star's front-runner status and before a huge crowd in Las Vegas, trump ready for debate night with unshakable confidence. I'll be honest, I think tomorrow night, I think it's going to be big. Oh. Ooh. And they're all coming after me. So far everyone that's attacked me has gone right down the tube so that's good. Reporter: For now Cruz still playing nice. I don't think the American people are interested in a bunch of candidates bickering like schoolchildren. Reporter: But the stage now set for a showdown on the strip just hours away. Florida senator Marco Rubio spending his debate eve rallying supporters in Las Vegas too going after president Obama rather than the eight rivals who will share the stage with him. So last Sunday the president spoke to the nation in an effort to calm us and make us feel more comfortable. I swear to you I wish he hasn't spoken at all. Reporter: 69-year-old trump says he's ready and healthy enough for the fight. The billionaire offering a clean bill of health as proof. Well, sort of. After vowing to release his full medical report, trump instead offered up just this short note from his doctor saying trump's physical strength and stamina are extraordinary. And in true trump fashion, the doctor declaring that if elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency. The healthiest individual and that letter declaring trump astonishingly excellent but one glitch, trump said that the doctor who wrote that letter was named Jacob Boren Steen. Jacob Boren Steen passed away years ago. His son wrote that letter and trump fixing that later post but a bill political oops out here.

Stage set for final GOP debate of 2015
Washington (CNN)Nine candidates will appear in prime-time Tuesday night for the final Republican presidential primary debate of 2015, a critical event that will help shape the contest heading into the Iowa caucuses.
Businessman Donald Trump, the front-runner for the nomination, will again be center stage flanked by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson on his right and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on his left, CNN announced Sunday. The six remaining participants in the prime time contest will be Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, businesswoman Carly Fiorina, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.
Four candidates: former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and former New York Gov. George Pataki will appear in the first debate on Tuesday evening.
It will be a return for Christie to the prime-time stage after failing to qualify for the Fox Business prime-time debate last month. Christie has seen a resurgence in recent weeks, particularly in New Hampshire, a key state for his campaign.
Paul, who was in danger of being removed from the main stage, was saved at the 11th hour by showing viability in Iowa in a Fox News poll released Sunday morning.
Podium order was determined by the average of the national polls from November and December.
RELATED: CNN Republican presidential debate criteria announced
CNN's debate, which will be held in Las Vegas and is the fifth of the primary season, is the first to use early-state polls as a way to make the main event in prime-time. Candidates must meet one of three criteria in polls conducted between October 29 and December 13 and recognized by CNN: An average of at least 3.5% nationally; at least 4% in Iowa; or at least 4% in New Hampshire.
Along with Christie, Fiorina and Kasich qualified for the primetime debate because of their New Hampshire average.
CNN considered live interviewer national and state surveys by: ABC News, Bloomberg News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, Gallup, Marist University, McClatchy News Service, Monmouth News Service, NBC News, The New York Times, Pew Research Center, Quinnipiac University, Time, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Des Moines Register, the University of New Hampshire, WBUR and WMUR.
The debate will be moderated by Wolf Blitzer, with CNN's Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash joining Salem Radio Network talk show host Hugh Hewitt as questioners.

7 things to watch at the CNN Republican debate.
Simi Valley, California (CNN)—Donald Trump will play the lead role in the second Republican presidential debate tonight -- but his rivals are jockeying to steal his spotlight.
As the GOP's frontrunner, Trump will once again take center stage at CNN's debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. With Reagan's Air Force One as the backdrop, Trump will be flanked by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has been increasingly eager to take on the combative businessman.
Meanwhile, one newcomer to the prime-time debate -- Carly Fiorina -- seems poised and ready to take on Trump directly.
With the Iowa caucuses less than five months away and pressure mounting for the middle-tier candidates, the CNN debate offers an opening for candidates to deliver a presidential performance -- and avoid getting lost in the Donald Trump show. But a misstep could damage their presidential prospects.
Here are seven things to watch in tonight's debate:
What will Trump say this time?
The question isn't whether Trump will shock and awe -- but how?
At last month's GOP debate, the wealthy real estate magnate had the audience both booing and cheering within minutes of taking the stage, when he refused to rule out a third-party run and took a shot at comedian Rosie O'Donnell.
His unorthodox performance has only fueled his popularity -- his national numbers have gone up and he's leading in key states like Iowa and New Hampshire.
But while Trump will no doubt deliver another explosive performance Wednesday, the debate stage this week will probably feel more hostile than last time.
Trump vs. Fiorina
Can Fiorina do the impossible -- and upstage The Donald?
With a standout performance at the first GOP debate and a subsequent uptick in the polls, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO won a spot at the main debate alongside her top-ranking rivals. With her quick, effortless delivery and sharp attack lines, Fiorina seems one of the best equipped in Wednesday's lineup to take Trump head-on.
Dan Pfeiffer, former adviser to President Barack Obama, said Monday on "The Lead" that Trump may be better off staying away from Fiorina altogether.
What hand will Carson play?
Carson's devout faith is one of his most powerful political assets.
A Seventh Day Adventist, Carson speaks openly about his spiritual beliefs on the campaign trail. His appeal to evangelicals is proving to be particularly potent in a state like Iowa, which has a sizeable population of born-again Christians.
The Bush reboot
Under fire from Trump for lacking charisma, Bush is trying to ditch his old self. The new Bush is more confrontational, personable and energetic.
The reboot signals an acknowledgment that taking the backseat and waiting for Trump's campaign to implode is -- at least right now -- a losing game.
Can Scott Walker salvage his campaign?
He was supposed to be an A-list candidate.
But these days, Walker is simply trying to stop the slide in his poll numbers.
The Wisconsin governor has lost his lead in Iowa, a state now dominated by Trump. Only 3% of GOP caucus-goers in the Hawkeye State said they were supporting Walker in a recent Quinnipiac University poll.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer will moderate tonight’s Republican Debate on CNN, the final opportunity for the crowded field to debate in 2015. Dana Bash and Hugh Hewitt will also be involved asking questions of the candidates, who will be split into undercard and primetime debates.
Both debates will be held at The Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada.
At 6 p.m. ET, the following candidates will take the stage:
Former New York Governor George Pataki
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee
Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum
South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham
At 8:30 p.m. ET, the leading contenders for the Republican party nomination will debate in the following order, left to right on stage:
Ohio Governor John Kasich
Carly Fiorina
Florida Senator Marco Rubio
Dr. Ben Carson
Donald Trump
Texas Senator Ted Cruz
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul
Entering this past weekend, the fate of Rand Paul was uncertain; a CNN spokeswoman said Sunday, “In light of new polling released this morning and in the spirit of being as inclusive as possible, CNN has decided to include Sen. Rand Paul in the prime-time debate.” Tuesday night will also mark the return of Chris Christie to the main debate stage, after sparring in the undercard last month in Milwaukee on Fox Business.
According to CNN, “Candidates must meet one of three criteria in polls conducted between October 29 and December 13 and recognized by CNN: an average of at least 3.5% nationally; at least 4% in Iowa; or at least 4% in New Hampshire.” The hashtag #GOPDebate will be used throughout the night to promote social media engagement with viewers at home.

Tonight Face Off: 2016 Presidential Debate Round 1 Undercard: Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki. Round 2 Prime Time: Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, George Bush, Carly Fiorina, Chris Christie, John Kasich, Rand Paul. CNN, Republican, Debate.
