Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, DL, FRS, RA (30 November 1874 -- 24 January 1965) was a British politician who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. Widely regarded as one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th century, Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer, and an artist. He is the only British Prime Minister to have won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and was the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the United States.
Churchill was born into the aristocratic family of the Dukes of Marlborough, a branch of the Spencer family. His father, Lord Randolph Churchill, was a charismatic politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer; his mother, Jennie Jerome, was an American socialite. As a young army officer, he saw action in British India, The Sudan, and the Second Boer War. He gained fame as a war correspondent and wrote books about his campaigns.
At the forefront of politics for fifty years, he held many political and cabinet positions. Before the First World War, he served as President of the Board of Trade, Home Secretary, and First Lord of the Admiralty as part of the Asquith Liberal government. During the war, he continued as First Lord of the Admiralty until the disastrous Gallipoli Campaign caused his departure from government. He then briefly resumed active army service on the Western Front as commander of the 6th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He returned to government as Minister of Munitions, Secretary of State for War, and Secretary of State for Air. After the War, Churchill served as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Conservative (Baldwin) government of 1924--29, controversially returning the pound sterling in 1925 to the gold standard at its pre-war parity, a move widely seen as creating deflationary pressure on the UK economy. Also controversial was his opposition to increased home rule for India and his resistance to the 1936 abdication of Edward VIII.
Out of office and politically "in the wilderness" during the 1930s, Churchill took the lead in warning about Nazi Germany and in campaigning for rearmament. On the outbreak of the Second World War, he was again appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. Following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain on 10 May 1940, Churchill became Prime Minister. His steadfast refusal to consider defeat, surrender, or a compromise peace helped inspire British resistance, especially during the difficult early days of the War when Britain stood alone among European countries in its active opposition to Adolf Hitler. Churchill was particularly noted for his speeches and radio broadcasts, which helped inspire the British people. He led Britain as Prime Minister until victory over Nazi Germany had been secured.
After the Conservative Party lost the 1945 election, he became Leader of the Opposition to the Labour Government. After winning the 1951 election, he again became Prime Minister, before retiring in 1955. Upon his death, Elizabeth II granted him the honour of a state funeral, which saw one of the largest assemblies of world statesmen in history. Named the Greatest Briton of all time in a 2002 poll, Churchill is widely regarded as being among the most influential people in British history, consistently ranking well in opinion polls of Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom.

Paul Bede Johnson (born 2 November 1928) is an English journalist, historian, speechwriter and author. He was educated at the Jesuit independent school Stonyhurst College, and at Magdalen College, Oxford. Johnson first came to prominence in the 1950s as a journalist writing for, and later editing, the New Statesman magazine.
A prolific writer, he has written over 40 books and contributed to numerous magazines and newspapers. While associated with the left in his early career, he is now a conservative popular historian. His sons include the journalist Daniel Johnson, founder of Standpoint, and the businessman Luke Johnson, former chairman of Channel 4.
During the 1970s Johnson became increasingly conservative in his outlook, and has largely remained so. In his Enemies of Society (1977), following a series of articles in the British press, he opposed the trade union movement, perceiving it as violent and intolerant, terming trade unionists "fascists". As Britain’s economy faltered, Johnson began to advocate the future British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s message of less government and less taxation. He was eventually won over to the Right and became one of Thatcher's closest advisers. "In the 1970s Britain was on its knees. The Left had no answers. I became disgusted by the over-powerful trade unions which were destroying Britain," he recalled in 2004.[9] After Thatcher's victory in the general election of 1979 Johnson advised on changes to legislation concerning trade unions, and was also one of Thatcher's speechwriters. Johnson was quoted in 2004:
"'I was instantly drawn to her,' he recalls. 'I’d known Margaret at Oxford. She was not a party person. She was an individual who made up her own mind. People would say that she was much influenced by Karl Popper or Frederick Hayek. The result was that Thatcher followed three guiding principles: truthfulness, honesty and never borrowing money.'"[9]
From 1981 to 2009, Johnson wrote a column for The Spectator; initially focusing on media developments, it subsequently acquired the title "And Another Thing". In his journalism, Johnson generally deals with issues and events which he sees as indicative of a general social decline, whether in art, education, religious observance or personal conduct. He has continued to contribute to the magazine, though less frequently than before.[10] During the same period he contributed a column to the Daily Mail until 2001. In a Daily Telegraph interview in November 2003, he criticised the Mail for having a pernicious impact: "I came to the conclusion that that kind of journalism is bad for the country, bad for society, bad for the newspaper".[11]
Johnson is a regular contributor to The Daily Telegraph, mainly as a book reviewer, and in the United States to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Commentary and the National Review. He also writes for Forbes magazine.[12] For a time in the early 1980s he wrote for The Sun after Rupert Murdoch urged him to "raise its tone a bit".[13]
Johnson is a critic of modernity because of what he sees as its moral relativism,[14] and finds objectionable those who use Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to justify their atheism or use it to promote biotechnological experimentation.[15] As a result of Johnson's views on evolution,[16] Richard Dawkins and Steven Pinker[17] have been a target of Johnson's criticism. As a conservative Catholic, Johnson regards liberation theology as a heresy and defends clerical celibacy, but departs from others in seeing many good reasons for ordination of women as priests.[18]
Admired by conservatives in the United States and elsewhere, he is strongly anti-communist.[19] Johnson has defended Richard Nixon[20] in the Watergate scandal, finding his cover-up considerably less heinous than Bill Clinton's perjury, and Oliver North's involvement in the Iran-Contra Affair. In his Spectator column, Johnson defended his friend Jonathan Aitken,[21] has expressed admiration for General Augusto Pinochet[22] and (qualified) admiration for General Franco.[23]
Johnson was active in the campaign, led by Norman Lamont, to prevent General Pinochet's extradition to Spain, following the General's arrest in London. "There have been countless attempts to link him to human rights atrocities, but nobody has provided a single scrap of evidence," Johnson was reported as saying in 1999.[24] In Heroes (2008),[22] Johnson returned to his longstanding claim that criticism of Pinochet's regime on human rights grounds came from "the Soviet Union, whose propaganda machine successfully demonised [Pinochet] among the chattering classes all over the world. It was the last triumph of the KGB before it vanished into history's dustbin."[25] He has described France as "a republic run by bureaucratic and party elites, whose errors are dealt with by strikes, street riots and blockades" rather than a democracy.

Sir John Desmond Patrick Keegan OBE FRSL (15 May 1934 – 2 August 2012) was a British military historian, lecturer, writer and journalist. He was the author of many published works on the nature of combat between the 14th and 21st centuries concerning land, air, maritime, and intelligence warfare, as well as the psychology of battle.
Keegan was born in Clapham, London, on 15 May 1934, to a family of Irish Catholic extraction. His father saw active service in the First World War.
At the age of 13 Keegan contracted orthopaedic tuberculosis, which subsequently affected his gait. The long-term effects of his tuberculosis rendered him unfit for military service, and the timing of his birth made him too young for service in the Second World War, as mentioned in his works as an ironic observation on his profession and interest.[1] The illness also interrupted his education during his teenage years; however, his education included a period at King's College, Taunton, and two years at Wimbledon College, which led to entry to Balliol College, Oxford, in 1953. Following graduation he worked at the American Embassy in London for three years.[2]
In 1960 he was appointed to a lectureship in Military History at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the training establishment for officers of the British Army. Holding the post for 26 years, he became senior lecturer in military history during his tenure. During this period he also held a visiting professorship at Princeton University and was Delmas Distinguished Professor of History at Vassar College.[3]
Leaving the academy in 1986[4] Keegan joined the Daily Telegraph as a Defence Correspondent and remained with the publication as Defence Editor until his death, also writing for the American conservative website, National Review Online. In 1998 he wrote and presented the BBC's Reith Lectures, entitled War in our World.
When asked about the Vietnam War, Keegan repled: "I will never oppose the Vietnam War. Americans were right to do it. I think they fought it in the wrong way. I don't think it's a war like fighting Hitler, but I think it was a right war, a correct war."
Keegan believed that NATO's bombing of Serbia and Serbian targets in Kosovo in 1999 showed that air power alone could win wars.
An article in the Christian Science Monitor called Keegan a "staunch supporter" of the Iraq War. The article quotes Keegan: "Uncomfortable as the 'spectacle of raw military force' is, he concludes, that the Iraq war represents 'a better guide to what needs to be done to secure the safety of our world than any amount of law-making or treaty-writing can offer.'" He frequently justified the war by making comparisons between it and other, more popular wars, such as both World Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.

This drama-documentary evokes what it was like to work closely with Churchill in the Cabinet War Rooms during the dark days of the Blitz and the later bombing raids on London.
The programme combines superb archive film from the Imperial War Museum's vast collection, with atmospheric dramatisations actually filmed inside the Cabinet War Rooms -- the real locations from where Churchill led the nation.
The programme includes first-hand accounts which reveal the challenges of working with Britain's bullish war leader at close quarters. The programme then traces the key stages of the war from Churchill's viewpoint -- his relationship with President Roosevelt, the turning point at El Alamein, D-Day and the final journey to victory. At his finest hour he is defeated in the General Election in the summer of 1945. It is a dramatic story of how one man's leadership rallied the nation and turned almost certain defeat into victory.

Owner Pom Harrington presents a splendid group of first edition books and documents charting Churchill’s growing regard for Dr. David Roberts. A relationship borne of necessity and expediency, shading to friendship and becoming a real intimacy; the reality of which is utterly confirmed by the warmth and sincerity of Clementine’s heartfelt notes of thanks. The Churchill’s clearly thought very highly of Dr. Roberts, but it is a relationship which left few traces, because as Gilbert pointedly remarks, “Unlike Lord Moran, [Roberts] kept no diary.”
This set inscribed identically in vols. I and II: “To Dr. Roberts from Winston S. Churchill, Christmas 1956″; vol. III with a printed facsimile holograph compliments slip, “With all good wishes Winston S. Churchill”; vol. IV inscribed “To David Myrddin Roberts from Winston S. Churchill, March 1958.” Accompanied by three Christmas cards, from Winston and Clementine, with paintings by Churchill, one of them signed by Clemmie; a short typed letter, dated 5 December 1957, on 28 Hyde Park Gate stationery signed by Churchill; a two-page hand-written note signed by Clementine, dated 2 April 1958, addressed to Mrs. Riley, Roberts’s mother-in-law, together with the original envelope; and two telegrams, one from Clementine in 1962, and one from Winston in 1964.

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon’s Maid married the person who became King George VI, and they had one child together by Artificial Insemination. That was a son, and it was epileptic and left to die on the [hospital] gurney. Thereafter the near retarded chain-smoking alcoholic knocked-kneed stutterer George VI was removed out of the Royal Gene Pool in terms of Breeding, and replaced by another illegitimate Royal — ‘Winston Churchill’.
Winston Churchill was the illegitimate child of King Edward VII, who was himself illegitimate.
Winston Churchill donated the sperm by Artificial Insemination to King George VI’s wife, who was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon’s maid.
The resulting child was born above a pub, above the Coach & Horses pub, in Mayfair, and that child is a Commoner given the name “Elisabeth” or “Elizabeth”, and you know that Commoner illegitimate Elizabeth today as ‘the uncrowned Queen Elizabeth II’.
Jim Fetzer: Who’s actually the child of Sir Winston Churchill.
Greg Hallett: Yes. So …
Jim Fetzer: By artificial insemination.
Greg Hallett: Yes, so is Princess Margaret (conceived by artificial insemination).
Jim Fetzer: It’s just astounding. It’s just astounding what you have disentangled, Greg. I am just in awe!

You have to wonder how often people who make it big can sometimes suddenly announce that they are broke. They may have won the lottery or become a famous rockstar, or athlete. They are officially R-I-C-H. Then, they walk into a bar, order a few of these drinks for their entourage, and the rest is history.
Let .925 is the most expensive bottle of liquor in the world. Selling for $3.5 million, is was released in 2010 with 6400 diamond studs on the outside of the pure platinum bottle, it’s not only a remarkable liquor but it comes in one of the most expensive bottles.
You might be afraid to dribble even a drop down your chin when you take a sip of Henry IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne. Ages for over one hundred years, every glass is worth thousands when the bottle sells for $2 million. Often called the DNA of Cognac, that would be one expensive toast where even the bottle is dipped in 24 carat bold and sterling platinum, with 6500 encrusted diamonds.
Diva Vodka is triple filtered, first through ice, then through Nordic birch charcoal and then through sand that contains gems. Maybe that filtering process is worth $1,000,000, because that’s what a bottle sells for. The semi-precious and precious gems in the sand may be worth that much alone, who knows. The bottle it comes in has Swarovski crystals running through it.
A sixty two year old Scotch, Dalmore 62 has sold for $194,100 and was auctioned off for $460,000 in 2012. It is well worth the investment with its value rising. There are only twelve of these bottles in existence, making it a rare find, if you can get your hands on it.
For the 50th anniversary of Trinidad’s independence, we have a rum that sells for $25,000 per bottle. Released in 2012, Legacy by Angostura is a seventeen year old aged rum that is sold in a crystal and silver decanter. The bottle was designed specifically for Prince Charles by jewelers.
Can you imagine paying almost $13,000 for a cocktail. Well, that’s what you pay when you order a Winston Cocktail, created by Joel Heffernan, an Australian bartender. He named it after Winston Churchill. The cocktail contains two nips of 1858 Croizet cognac, which goes for $157,000 per bottle. This cocktail holds the record for the most expensive cocktail in the Guiness Book of World Records.
Diamonds are not only forever, they are a girl’s best friend. That’s why you might want to shell out $22,600 for The Diamond Is Forever Martini served at the Ritz-Carlton in Tokyo, Japan. A flawless one carat James Bond diamond is floated in child Grey Goose Vodka with a splash of lime.
Created by infamous London bartender, Salvatore Calabrese, and holding the Guiness Book of World Records’ most expensive cocktail in history record, the Salvator Legacycosts $8,824 for a glass. Each ingredient is over hundreds of years old; a 1770 Kummel liqueur, a778 Clos de Griffier vieux cognac, a circa 1860 Dubb orange Curacao and two dashes of Angostura bitters dating from around 1900.
This cocktail is sold at the Encore at the grand Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, and as with anything in Vegas it’s sinful and over the top. The coctail is made up of Louis Xiii Black Pearl cognac with Charles Heidsieck 1981 Champagne Charlie, Sence rose nectar, apricot puree and fresh squeezed orange juice. Why so expensive. A bottle of the cognac goes for $90,000.
Served at the Skyview Bar at the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, this cocktail costs about $4,000. The 55 year aged single malt whiskey pours from a Lalique crystal decanter, and comes from one of only 420 bottles made. It’s one of the priciest cocktails you will ever order.
If you’re ever in Paris, France and want to drop $1,670 for a cocktail, sidle up to the bar at Bar Hemingway at the Ritz-Carlton and order a Sidecar. Mixing Cointreau with champagne Cognac that was bottled between 1830 and 1870, and some lemon juice. The bottles of cognac were World War II survivors, remaining at the hotel during the German Occupation.
When in Ireland you’ve got to have a cocktail. If you’re feeling open pocketed, you might try the $1,267 Original Mai Tai served at the Merchant Hotel in Belfast. If you order this drink you are treated to the rare Trader Vic’s Jamaican rum, of which the Merchant Hotel owns one of only six existing bottles. They are the only bar serving this cocktail with this liquor.

wn.com/Most Expensive Alcoholic Drinks

The big success of the Gallipoli Campaign never came, thousands of soldiers died and so Winston Churchill is forced to resign. At the same time August von Mackensen is pushing back the Russians and forcing them to hide in Przemyśl fortress - the same fortress they just conquered from the Austro-Hungarians a few weeks earlier.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate Walkthrough! Walkthrough and Let's Play Playthrough of Assassin's Creed Syndicate with Live Gameplay and Commentary in 1080p high definition at 60 fps. This Assassin's Creed Syndicate walkthrough will be completed showcasing every level, mission, boss, and story ending.
Story:
In 1868, at the tail end of the Industrial Revolution, with the Assassin Brotherhood all but eradicated, twins Jacob (Paul Amos) and Evie Frye (Victoria Atkin) leave Crawley for London and arrive to find a city controlled by the Templars, with both the Church and the Monarchy losing their power. Raised as Assassins to follow the Creed, Jacob and Evie aim to take back the city from Templar control by infiltrating and uniting London's criminal underworld, aided by notable figures of the era such as novelist Charles Dickens, biologist Charles Darwin and inventor Alexander Graham Bell, foundational philospher of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale and Queen Victoria.
Gameplay:
Assassin's Creed Syndicate marks the first time in the series where the player can freely switch between two different protagonists. It will also be the first main entry in the series to feature a playable female protagonist. (Assassin's Creed III: Liberation featured a female protagonist, but that game is not a part of the main series. Male lead Jacob Frye is meant to be more of a hot-headed brawler, specialized in close combat, while his twin sister Evie is strong in stealth and relies on her intelligence and wit. The Assassins' main weapons this time around include brass knuckles, a compact revolver, a cane sword and the traditional Nepalese curved kukri knife and combat is faster-paced than before with latency having been cut in half and multiple enemies attacking the player at once. Additionally new travelling systems make their debut in the game, such as a rope launcher which allows the player to rappel up structures as well as create a zip-line between buildings, and carriages, which can all be piloted or simply occupied by the player, and trains. The rooftops of moving carriages can also be the setting of fights and parkour chases. London in the game will be approximately 30% larger than Paris in Unity and consist of six boroughs: Westminster, the Strand, the City of London, Whitechapel, Southwark and Lambeth. The game will have no multiplayer mode, and will not feature a companion app, which was introduced in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Side missions in the game have been designed to reflect the fight for power in London and are cohesive to the main story of the game. Players can also kidnap enemies for ransom then put them inside horse carriages and take them to a drop-off point.

David Irving.
David John Cawdell Irving, born 24 March 1938, is an English Holocaust revisionist and author who has written many books on the military and political history of World War II, with a focus on Nazi Germany. His works include The Destruction of Dresden (1963), Hitler's War (1977), Churchill's War (1987), and Goebbels: Mastermind of the Third Reich (1996). Irving's revisionist views of World War II has indeed been taken seriously by main historians, he has been recognized for his knowledge of Nazi Germany and his ability to unearth new historical documents. Irving has received greatest of respect for his method of researching and of course for being the only historian to have the Totale Trust of his sources throughout Germany, throughout the World.
------------------
"Der SPIEGEL wird seinen neuen Autor im Auge behalten: Während sein Bericht in diesem Heft beginnt, reist Irving schon wieder durch Deutschland, um Material für eine neue Dokumentation zusammenzutragen"
Der Spiegel, Germany's leading news magazine, in 1965
". . . a British historian, David Irving, perhaps the greatest living authority on the Nazi era . . ." Stephen Spender, New York Times Review of Books.
"SUCH PEOPLE AS David Irving have an indispensable part in the historical enterprise, and we dare not disregard their views." Professor Gordon C Craig, The New York Review of Books, September 19, 1996.
"ES IST EIN GLÜCK für uns . . . einen Irving zu haben, der den Historikern zumindest neue Anstöße gibt." Professor Hans Mommsen, Ruhr-Univ. Bochum, 1978: now see his panic! Charakterschweine gibt es ja überall.
"FOR BETTER or for worse . . . the best known historians of the Nazi era are now [Daniel] Goldhagen and the British writer David Irving."-- Holocaust and Genocide Studies, vol. 11, no. 3 (Oxford University Press, in association with U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum). “Bombing Dresden. Who is to blame?” – a wartime mystery FROM EARLY July 2015 David Irving starts a two-week tour of his favourite British cities, from Scotland to Devon, meeting his readers and talking to private groups. His topic: the mystery of who started the saturation bombing campaign in World War Two, which climaxed in the horrors of Dresden; there’s no simple answer, and the one Irving offers will not please Churchill fans. So: Winston Churchill, or Adolf Hitler? Who started the bombing program that in retrospect has come to parallel the worst excesses of World War Two, killing two million Germans, French, Poles, Belgians, and Dutch civilians alike. It was never condemned in any post-war tribunal, although it is now acknowledged as a War Crime, and a Geneva Convention now prohibits the targeting of civilians under the guise of military bombardment. The wartime offensive was pressed home by brave airmen from all over the Empire, most of whom had actually enlisted for Fighter Command in defense of their country, but were then blackmailed into killing civilians.
Until now it has been commonly added to the crimes that Hitler committed: injustice is one price for losing a war. Where did Hitler actually stand on this, and what do we know about how the bombing began? The offensive climaxed in the R.A.F.’s Dresden raid in February 13, 1945, but there were others.
David Irving, author of the acclaimed and acknowledged history of the Dresden episode, speaks and presents original documents from the archives which lead us re-evaluate the roles of Churchill, Goering, and Hitler. In 1961 the air ministry quietly tried to prevent Sir Arthur Harris, Bomber Command’s fabled commander-in-chief, from speaking out to Irving. Now David Irving continues his lifelong campaign for Real History, laying bare the truth.

Pathe studios, Wardour St, London.
Winston Churchill, leader of the Conservative Party speaks in advance of the 1950 General Election: "Permit me, ladies and gentlemen, to claim your attention for a moment. It can only be a moment, for as you know we are all on the ration. The vote that you will give on February 23rd is of profound importance to your future, your homes and families and to our country. The choice is plain, are we now to take another plunge into Socialist regimentation or shall we return to the highroad of freedom of enterprise and with proper safeguards opportunity for all? Under the Socialist system where everything is controlled, by an all-powerful state, we cannot hope to uphold our standard of life and and secure employment for the 50 millions crowded onto our small island. If we are to be independent in foreign aid ...
He talks about people rising by their own exertions. He calls for people to reject the narrow cramping doctrines of Socialism. He talks about reaching broad uplands where plenty, peace and justice reign."

http://www.smokinghotcigarchick.com I had the pleasure of speaking with Sam Russell and Chris Miller of Winston Churchill and Davidoff at the most recent event at 'Smoke Ring Cigars' cigar shop for the official release of the Winston Churchill Spitfire and Chartwell cigar! What a wonderful time, and as always- with great people!
I am very fond of the Winston Churchill line, and was pleased to see the complexity and balance continue to stand out in this new size and blend. Beautiful smoke, and at a great size (a corona size for the Chartwell).
Watch the video for more information about this cigar and the Winston Churchill history and passion.
As always, be sure to check the blog for photos and more details!
