Vietnam has a continual economic growth of 7.5 percent, has reduced the poverty rate from 58 percent in 1992 to 29 percent in 2002 and to 17 percent at present. Vietnam is developing comprehensively in all fields of the economy. Becoming member of the WTO this year will be a major turning point for Vietnam's economic development."

STORYLINE:
Vietnam's recent entry into the WTO (World Trade Organisation) has highlighted what many see as a major turning point in the country's economic development.
The South East Asian country will also play host to the 21 country members of the Asia-Pacific Summit in late November, further reinforcing its economic strides.
After 20 years of implementing the "doi moi" or renewal policy, in which the government loosened tight economic controls and opened up the economy to the outside world, Vietnam has achieved major breakthroughs.
Its economy is growing at an average of 7.5 percent, the second fastest after China.
"Vietnam has reduced the poverty rate from 58 percent in 1992 to 29 percent in 2002 and to 17 percent at present. Vietnam is developing comprehensively in all fields of the economy." said Le Dang Doanh, senior economist at the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The face of the country has been changing rapidly. New office towers, luxury housing and apartment complexes are springing up across Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city.
