As locals fled the region for greener pastures, Northern Italy's cheese industry was under threat. But thanks to Sikh migrants, some traditional dairies have preserved a small slice of Italian culture.
There are nearly 16,000 Indian migrants employed on Italian farms, mainly in the country's North. Many, like Jaspinder's father, arrived in search of employment familiar to their roots. "My dad is from an agriculture tradition, so when he came here he didn't find that big difference between Punjab and Italy." As the Sikhs attempt to keep their culture and traditions strong in their new home, they are also helping to preserve a piece of Italy's culture - the art of making parmesan cheese. This report explores these two cultures whose similarities and differences merge for the betterment of each other.

The movie is based on the life of a gursikh professor who comes to INDIA with lots of aspirations and feelings for his heritage and culture, as he had to leave the country during 1984. But as soon as he enters the city he comes across a very different environment and culture among sikh youth. Also few incidents occured which left him in shock and made him to find out what that reason was which shook the roots of sikhi in mere 20-25 years and which took more than 500 years for our Guru Sahibaan and Gursikhs to nurture.
"Proud to be a sikh" is about the journey of that gursikh professor in making sikh youngsters aware and feel proud for their identity and rich heritage , the difficulties he faced during this journey, and how he emerges victorious in the end.
"Proud to be a sikh" is about clarifying the society the true image of a sikh and not the one which they have projected in their minds based on false media propaganda and other misunderstandings.
"Proud to be a sikh" is about the lifestyle of a true khalsa in which he displays both the qualities of being a saint and sipahi in required conditions.

ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਬਾਈ ਨੇ ਬੱਲੇ ਬੱਲੇ - A Sikh truck driver was stopped by a mob after a vehicle collided with his truck. The truck driver repeatedly says he didn’t slam into the vehicle but instead the vehicle slammed into his truck.
The mob approached the Sikh and tried pull him out of the truck. 3 individuals can be seen assaulting the Sikh man. A dramatic turn of events occur after the Sikh defends himself by pulling out a Kirpan.
The mob disperses quickly and the truck driver went on his way. The incident teaches a lesson to be alert and active in defending oneself as the mob could have dragged the Sikh driver out and beaten him but the quick thinking of the truck driver caused him to save his life.

WATCH Dramatic moment shopkeeper fights off 'shotgun-toting raider' - by throwing SHOE at him
A slipper can be mightier than a gun in the hands of a valiant Sikh store-owner! In a feat caught on surveillance cameras, the 59-year-old Amrik Singh fought off a shotgun-wielding masked robber using only his slipper in the store at his petrol station in Staatsburg, about 150 km from New York City.
"I'm not really a hero," Amrik told IANS Friday about Tuesday's slipper-shotgun face-off. "And I would not want to be a hero. I am just a working man."
Singh, who immigrated to the US from Doburji in Punjab's Moga district 35 years ago and has owned the Citgo petrol station and store for 19 years, said he did not have a strategy or a conscious plan to confront the gunman.
But "God told my body to grab the man as he reached for the tray in the cash register", he said.
"When the gunman jumped back, I threw the slipper and hit him on the nose," Singh said. "I ran and caught him and we were like wrestling."
Laughing, the turban-wearing Singh said: "He did not expect an old man to fight him. He ran outside and I chased him. He fired a shot at my feet, but it missed and hit the ground and he drove away."
Asked by IANS about Singh's feat, his wife, Baljinder said: "It is shocking and crazy. He had a guardian angel protecting him."
When the would-be robber entered the store with the gun, Singh said he was momentarily taken aback. "After that my mind was clear and I was not nervous at all."
He said he first tried to reason with the man and offered to give him money. "But he demanded $100 dollar bills. I told him I did not have any. He tried remove the coin tray and search under it."
That's when the confrontation caught on the surveillance video that made prime time TV newscasts across the United States Thursday night started.
Singh does not plan to take chances if there is another robbery attempt. "I am a US citizen and I am going to apply for a gun licence."
Police don't recommend such acts of bravado. State Trooper Melissa McMorris was quoted by the Daily Freeman as saying "Thank God, the store owner wasn't hurt in the confrontation."

ALDWYCH, LONDON (22/10/2015)- I happened to be walking to my campus past the Indian High Commission when a peaceful Sikh protest was met with violence by the police, mounted and armed with riot gear. Protesters were met with this response after blocking the carriageway on Aldwych. They were trying to raise awareness and express their opposition to alleged Indian Government inaction against, and even sponsorship of, murders and other rights abuses against Sikhs in Punjab. A woman was allegedly attacked by police officers according to bystanders. One police officer was admitted to hospital according to news reports, who I believe is the officer videoed with blood on his face.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Toronto has been named the most multicultural city in the world, yet many of the immigrants to the city still encounter racism long after they’ve arrived. Nav Bhatia moved to Toronto in the 1984, and after overcoming significant prejudice and obstacles as a Sikh, today he boasts successful business enterprises and the coveted title of “Superfan” of the Toronto Raptors. The message in Nav’s TEDxToronto talk is one of hope and inspiration, as he urges us all to use our passions to rise above discrimination to allows us to excel both as individuals and as a city.
Nav Bhatia is known as the Official Raptor`s Superfan, and recently was given the title Raptor`s South Asian Community Ambassador working alongside superstar Drake. Nav owns 2 Hyundai dealerships, Mississauga and Rexdale, with Mississauga recently awarded number one Hyundai volume dealer in Canada. He is heavily involved in bringing Bollywood to the Non Resident Indians and through his love of basketball and his business Nav looks to change the perception of Sikhs to the mainstream audience.
