ABOUT ST. TIKHON'S
St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary is an institution of professional Orthodox Christian theological education, chartered by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and affiliated with the Orthodox Church in America. In a rural environment conducive to spiritual growth and academic study, the Seminary nurtures the theological vocations of its students and faculty, who share the unique opportunity of learning and teaching Orthodox theology in the framework of their daily experience of a rich heritage of Russian Orthodox spiritual and liturgical tradition.
The primary mission of the Seminary lies in providing the necessary theological, liturgical, spiritual and moral foundations for Orthodox men to become, as God so wills, good shepherds of His Holy Orthodox Church. Patriarch Tikhon anathematized the Bolsheviks but did not bless the "White Movement" in a tentative attempt to safeguard the religious and spiritual dimension of Russia, and agreed to the dialogue of the Orthodox Church with Catholics. The film describes his life from his missionary activity in America to his canonization after the fall of the U.S.S.R.
The film tells us about the early stages of Patriarch Tikhon's life, his seminary time, his episcopate in Poland and Alaska, his return to Russia and election to the Patriarchate, the persecution of the Church during and after the Revolution of 1917 and the hardships Tikhon had to endure under Soviet power, and finally about his house-arrest and martyrlike death.
The unusual richness of the historic sequences in this film give it a very special artistic character. Rare shootings derived from the early era of cinematic photography are combined with original photographs and classic newsreel material.

DIVINE SERVICES IN HOLY TRINITY MONASTERY, JORDANVILLE, NY, SUNG BY THE PATRIARCH TIKHON MALE CHOIR.
From February 23-27, 2014, the Patriarch Tikhon Russian American Music Institute (PaTRAM) held a Master Class for the Patriarch Tikhon Male Choir at Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary in Jordanville, NY. The Master Class was centered around choral workshops with Choirmaster Vladimir Gorbik, choir director at the Moscow Representation Church (Metochion) of Holy Trinity-St Sergius Monastery.
At the workshops, Master Class participants, including the Holy Trinity Seminary Choir under the direction of Reader Nicholas Kotar, studied four-part harmony and an English and Slavonic repertoire. Above all, the Master Class focused on singing spiritually, in keeping with PaTRAM's characteristic desire to unite professionalism with prayer.
On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, the Master Class participants sang the divine services in honor of the Holy Equal-of-the-Apostles Saint Cyril, Teacher of the Slavs. Vespers, Matins, and Divine Liturgy were led by the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, co-served by monastery clergy.
С 23 по 27 февраля Русско-Американский Музыкальный Институт им. Патриарха Тихона (PaTRAM) дал мастер-класс для Св. Тихоновского мужского хора при Св. Троицком монастыре и семинарии в Джорданвилле, шт. Нью-Йорк. Центральным в мастер-классе стал хоровой семинар, который провел хормейстер Владимир Горбик, регент храма московского подворья Св. Троице-Сергиевой лавры.
В ходе семинара участники мастер-класса, включая хор Св. Троицкой семинарии под управлением чт. Николая Котара изучали четырехголосное пение и репертуар на английском и славянском языках. Помимо этого, основное внимание во время мастер-класса было сконцентрировано на пении духовно, в соответствии с характерным для PaTRAM желанием соединить профессионализм с молитвой.
В среду вечером и четверг утром участники мастер-класса пели за богослужениями в честь св. равноап. Кирилла, Учителя Словенского. Вечерню, утреню и Божественную литургию возглавлял Первоиерарх Русской Зарубежной Церкви Высокопреосвященнейший митрополит Иларион, в сослужении насельников монастыря в священном сане.

Saint Tikhon of Moscow (Russian: Тихон, 31 January [O.S. 19 January] 1865 – 7 April 1925), born Vasily Ivanovich Bellavin (Russian: Василий Иванович Беллавин), was the 11th Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia of the Russian Orthodox Church during the early years of the Soviet Union, 1917 through 1925.
From 1878 to 1883, Bellavin studied at the Pskov Theological Seminary. In 1888, at the age of 23, he graduated from the Saint Petersburg Theological Academy as a layman. He then returned to the Pskov Seminary and became an instructor of Moral and Dogmatic Theology. In 1891, at the age of 26, he took monastic vows and was given the name Tikhon in honor of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk. Tikhon was consecrated Bishop of Lublin on 19 October 1897. On 14 September 1898, Bishop Tikhon was made Bishop of the Aleutians and Alaska. As head of the Russian Orthodox Church in America he reorganized the diocese and changed its name from "Diocese of the Aleutians and Alaska" to "Diocese of the Aleutians and North America" in 1900. While living in the United States Archbishop Tikhon was made a citizen of the United States.

Patriarch Tikhon anathematized the Bolsheviks but did not bless the "White Movement" in a tentative attempt to safeguard the religious and spiritual dimension of Russia, and agreed to the dialogue of the Orthodox Church with Catholics. The film describes his life from his missionary activity in America to his canonization after the fall of the U.S.S.R.
The film tells us about the early stages of Patriarch Tikhon's life, his seminary time, his episcopate in Poland and Alaska, his return to Russia and election to the Patriarchate, the persecution of the Church during and after the Revolution of 1917 and the hardships Tikhon had to endure under Soviet power, and finally about his house-arrest and martyrlike death.
The unusual richness of the historic sequences in this film give it a very special artistic character. Rare shootings derived from the early era of cinematic photography are combined with original photographs and classic newsreel material.

DIVINE SERVICES IN HOLY TRINITY MONASTERY, JORDANVILLE, NY, SUNG BY THE PATRIARCH TIKHON MALE CHOIR.
From February 23-27, 2014, the Patriarch Tikhon Russian American Music Institute (PaTRAM) held a Master Class for the Patriarch Tikhon Male Choir at Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary in Jordanville, NY. The Master Class was centered around choral workshops with Choirmaster Vladimir Gorbik, choir director at the Moscow Representation Church (Metochion) of Holy Trinity-St Sergius Monastery.
At the workshops, Master Class participants, including the Holy Trinity Seminary Choir under the direction of Reader Nicholas Kotar, studied four-part harmony and an English and Slavonic repertoire. Above all, the Master Class focused on singing spiritually, in keeping with PaTRAM's characteristic desire to unite professionalism with prayer.
On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, the Master Class participants sang the divine services in honor of the Holy Equal-of-the-Apostles Saint Cyril, Teacher of the Slavs. Vespers, Matins, and Divine Liturgy were led by the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, co-served by monastery clergy.

In an effort to better train church musicians, representatives from most major musical programs and seminaries in ROCOR and the OCA gathered together at the end of 2013 to form the Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music Institute (PaTRAM). The work of the newly formed institute was blessed by the Primates of the Orthodox Church in America and the Russian Church Abroad. Building on the work that has been done by music educators in the past, PaTRAM strives to provide continuity through its progressive training programs at every level of Church musical development in both English and Slavonic. Patriarch Tikhon gave his blessing for creating the brotherhood of Maroseika at the St. Nicholas Church at Maroseika Street in Moscow. The "starets" Aleksey Mechyov, deeply rooted in the tradition of the hermitage of Optina, was the Archpriest of the church and its spiritual guide: he is now venerated as a saint.
The prophecy "My son will be higher than me", Aleksey Mechyov gave on his son Sergey, at that time only a student, became clear in the years of obscure unbelief and pitch-dark fall of the spirit. Sergey, as a preacher and pastor became a bright landmark for many Russian Christians, but his activity found an end as he was martyred during Stalin's persecutions.
Rich Russian iconography, photographs of the various periods and contem-porary shoots, quotations from letters of the two protagonists and live interviews with people related to them, round up the picture of the biographies of these two saints, father and son, both priests at the same church at Moscow. The suggestive analogy to the story of Abraham and Isaac gives this film a very special emotional touch.

How do the residents of Frolovo meet a long awaited time of the year -- an interview taken by Mariya Kudinova.
Get Online Week (GOW) is a European awareness campaign engaging and empowering people, especially digitally excluded residents, to use technology and the internet. The campaign was supported in Russia by the public libraries and thanks to the free internet and commuter access at their premises and the Tvoy Kurs project many residents of urban and rural areas participated in GOW. The Information center of the Frolovo library held a number of trainings and presentation of the internet resources. Thanks to the campaign, people have used the internet for the very first time. The GOW campaign took place in more than 60 municipal districts of the Volgograd region.
Veselov:
You are asking what I have learned here. To create folders, to type and to use all gained skills and knowledge in practice.
Program host:
In taking the first step on their way to the Internet surf the residents were supported by campaign partners.
Lukashevich:
Children are coming here to get knowledge. We create web-sites and web-pages, blogs, forums for networking and thematic forums. We conduct digital literacy training, teach how to copy materials to disc, how to record music and video. We study all of these things gradually. It is twice as challenging is to teach grown-ups. You ask why? Because everything is new to them. But, if a person is really interested he uses every opportunity to learn more after classes or at home.

You involved your former alumni who wanted to try their hand at ICT management during the GOW. During the Teach Your Family Campaign they helped their digitally excluded relatives open a new fascinating world of the Internet.
Efremenko:
There was a special interest from a young mother with an infant; she liked my idea that her son should start practice foreign languages from the early childhood. She began searching the Internet to find cartoons and audiobooks in English. Her husband (and father of a baby) at that point was getting a second degree and the Internet resources helped him a lot.
Visitor:
My grandparents were much interested in Teach Your Family Campaign as they need new information. My grandmother wanted to know how to find information about weather forecast and my grandfather was interested in the sport news.
Program host:
Traditional library seminars Babushki and Dedushki Online, Women Online helped people with their first online journey and familiarized them with ICT.
Sokolova:
First of all I come here to check my emails. I and other ladies exchange needlecrafts, we post the pictures of our needlecrafts to the Internet, boasting about our achievements in sewing and embroidery.

Wise parents who are good in upbringing their children reasonably limit children's internet surf and, of course, they are doing the right thing.

There was a great interest to it, these days you can find any information in the Internet, but how do you know whether it is true?
Vlasov:
We recently met here in the center, just talking about the Orthodox Christianity online media, for example, the Slavianka online magazine, I would call it an orthodox analog of the well-known the Rabotnitsa (Working woman) or the Krestianka (Peasant woman) magazines. The Slavianka covers not only religious issues, but also provides information and articles about marriage and family life for all people. Online media -- is the Foma magazine, there are special editions for youth, which is very important, for example the Otrok (Adolescent) which is published in Kiev, Ukraine, or the Moscow Heir.
One of the main orthodox online sources is a web-site http://www.patriarchia.ru. As for the web-sites that provide diverse information about the politics and interesting facts I could recommend two: http://www.pravoslavie.ru -- a web-site of the Stetensky Monastery whose abbot, Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov) is well-known for his book Everyday Saints, and a web-site Orthodox Christianity and the World - a wonderful independent resource that presents diverse information and points of view of various people.

Building on the work that has been done by music educators in the past, PaTRAM strives to provide continuity through its progressive training programs at every level of Church musical development in both English and Slavonic.
PaTRAM has also partnered with the Media Office of the Eastern American Diocese of ROCOR to produce a documentary about the work and goals of the institute. The 25-minute film, entitled "Uniting Musical Excellence with Orthodox Worship," gives an overview of the important role of music in the life of the Orthodox Church and explains how PaTRAM is embarking on an endeavor that could potentially revolutionize the way that the Orthodox conductors and singers receive their musical training in North America.

Hunters from Outwest Farms located in Okeechobee, Florida have posted an image showing a massive, near 15-foot, 780 pound alligator they found and killed. According to CNN, the huge reptile was discovered on Saturday on one of the ponds located on a private ranch owned by Outwest Farms owner Lee Lightsey ...
