Even when Lamar Odom was a kid with limitless imagination growing up on New York's playground courts, he thinks he might have dismissed Thursday's season finale as a bit too extravagant.
When the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the NBA finals, Odom realizes it's a fantasy come true for any basketball player with the audacity to dream this big.
"It's historic, especially when you talk about these teams and what they stand for, the pride," the Lakers forward said Wednesday. "This is what you envision when you're a kid in your backyard. Counting down, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..."
Another memorable chapter in the NBA's best rivalry will end with a coronation at Staples Center, where the defending champion Lakers will try to earn their 16th banner while denying Boston its unprecedented 18th title in the clubs' second finals meeting in three years.
For the fifth time in their 12 finals meetings, Boston and Los Angeles need all seven games to decide it. Each previous time it went to Game 7, the Celtics won -- but when the current Lakers and Celtics take the court for the NBA finals' first Game 7 since 2005 and just its second in the past 16 years, most will try awfully hard not to think about the history and pressure heaped on their shoulders.
It's fine for kids and historians to savor this scenario, but Kobe Bryant knows it's not a good idea for players to get caught up in it.
"It's got nothing to do with me," said Bryant, the series' leading scorer with 29.5 points per game. "(When) I look back, years from now, or even when I was a kid, (if) you'd talk about being in this situation, I'd be really excited. But when I'm in the moment right now, I've got to play. I've got to focus on that. I can't focus on the hype about it."
Although Boston has the rivalry's Game 7 history on its side, the Celtics have plenty stacked against them after an embarrassing 89-67 loss in Game 6 Tuesday night. Most glaringly, Boston won't have starting center Kendrick Perkins, who sprained multiple ligaments in his right knee in the first quarter.
The Celtics' starting five has never lost a playoff series, but that five must change for Game 7. Although Perkins is a role player next to Boston's Big Three and point guard Rajon Rondo, the Celtics must hope veteran Rasheed Wallace and youngster Glen Davis can make up for Perkins' inside defense and rebounding.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Critics have been doubting that Rajon Rondo can ever become an elite player again. The veteran point guard, now with the Sacramento Kings, proved Friday night he still has some game.
Rondo had 21 points and eight assists and DeMarcus Cousins had 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Kings beat the Los Angeles Lakers 132-114.
Running frequently behind the leadership of Rondo and benefiting from Lakers turnovers, the Kings had a 24-point lead at halftime and continued to pad it in the third quarter in evening their record at 1-1.
"That was the Rondo of old," teammate Omri Casspi said.
No one would disagree, at least not this game.
Rondo was attacking the basket, scoring in traffic and frequently setting up his teammates. He was clearly the catalyst in helping ignite the Kings early. He made 9 of 13 from the field, including a 3-pointer, in nearly 24 minutes.
"I wanted to come out aggressive, a lot more than I did last game," Rondo said. "This was a collective effort. It wasn't one individual."
Rudy Gay scored 19 points for the Kings, who never trailed after the game's opening minutes. Making his first start, rookie Willie Cauley-Stein had a strong opening quarter and finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
The power forward and Cousins helped the Kings dominate down low all game and they finished with 80 points in the paint.
Darren Collison was a key player off the bench for Sacramento, scoring 14 points while Casspi, another reserve, had 12 points and nine rebounds.
"I played super loose and had my mind free," Cauley-Stein said. "We shared the ball and had a lot of fun out there."
It wasn't much fun for the Lakers.
They played a sloppy first quarter and were clearly outhustled by the Kings, who were motivated by their second sellout crowd.
Jordan Clarkson scored 22 points and Nick Young had 17 for the Lakers, who have started the season with consecutive losses. Making his first start at point guard, rookie D'Angelo Russell had 13 points.
"I told my team they had to be ready when the game starts, but they weren't ready," Lakers coach Byron Scott. "I wish I did have an answer for what happened. If I did I would solve it."
Kobe Bryant had 13 points in 22 minutes. After a slow start, he finished 5 of 13 from the field, but was 1 of 8 from 3-point range.
Bryant, who shot 8 of 24 in the Lakers' opening-game loss to Minnesota, missed four straight 3-pointers in the opening quarter and only played 7 minutes. His first basket was a 3 in the second quarter, but at that point the Lakers were trailing 55-37.
"We gave up 80 points in the paint. That's a lot to give up," Bryant said. "But they got a lot of penetration and on the ones they didn't convert, they got offensive rebounds and converted those."
After going scoreless in the second quarter, Rondo ignited the Kings again in the third. A free agent pickup from Dallas, Rondo scored nine points in the third quarter when the Kings led by a high of 31 points.
The Kings came out fast in the opening quarter, dominating in every facet in taking a 40-24 lead into the second quarter. The start was led by Rondo, who fearlessly drove to the basket successfully on four occasions and finished with 10 points and five assists.

After winning it all the previous year, the LA Lakers went into the 2000-01 season trying to repeat. Shaquille O'Neal was ordered by Phil Jackson to take it easy during the offseason so his body could rest and he'd be ready to go the following year. Shaq was never known for having a great work ethic so this was certainly detrimental to the start of the season as he came into training camp out of shape. Kobe on the other hand had been working all offseason to become a better player and wanted to show off his talents. The two stars had had their rifts ever since becoming teammates back in 1996 when Bryant was nicknamed "showboat" due to his perceived selfish playing style but now things were really coming to a head. It was clear that Kobe wanted to be the #1 option but Shaq wasn't willing to give up his position. Understandable considering he'd just come off of arguably the most dominant season and playoff run in the history of the league.
The feud would continue through the season and as a result the Lakers' chemistry and record suffered. Some people were calling Kobe the best player in the game, while others were calling him selfish due his high volume shooting. To make matters worse Shaq missed some games in February and in the same month, during an interview, Phil revealed information from a private conversation he'd had with Kobe which affected their player/coach relationship.
In mid February Shaq returned but a few weeks later Kobe missed some games after sustaining multiple injuries. This became the turning point of the season. With Shaq carrying more of the load offensively, he was finally able to get in shape and with Kobe out the team's offense ran more fluidly. A win in San Antonio which saw 7 different Lakers score in double digits made Kobe realize he needed to become more of a team player when he returned. The Lakers' chances of repeating started to look better towards the end of the season as they ran off a season high 8 straight victories.
As the Lakers entered the postseason, Shaq picked up where he'd left off in the 2000 playoffs by destroying opposing frontlines and Kobe became a superstar. Commentators like John Thompson and Doug Collins marveled at Kobe's balance and efficient scoring. Instead of forcing the issue, he was now letting the game come to him, trusting his teammates more and hitting clutch shots. The team would get also get an extra boost from it's supporting cast as Derek Fisher returned to the lineup after missing 62 games due to a stress fracture in his right foot. While Shaq & Kobe dominated on offense, the team pulled together on defense and stifled the Blazers, Kings, Spurs and Sixers by forcing them to shoot a combined .408%. They ended up going 15-1 which still stands as the best postseason record in history. Shaq and Kobe also averaged a combined 59.8 ppg which is the highest scoring average in playoff history by a duo on a championship team.

I Lakers con la possibilità di firmare il three peat.
Unica pecca, la mia VHS che si è bruciata prima dell'inizio dell'overtime.
Buona visione
