Kingsley Academy, hosted '
Aspire 2
Inspire' our first
Annual Somali Community Achievement
Awards in Hounslow.
On the
23rd May
2013, HSC hosted hugely successful and historic Somali Achievement Awards
Evening. Somali students from Kingsley Academy were presented with special awards for outstanding achievement in a number of categories including:
Best attendance,
Sports Personality of the Year,
Student Leadership,
Most Academically improved,
Best
Results in
GCSE and the
Student of the Year Awards.
A special award was also presented to
Mohammed Deria, a Somali marathon runner who lives in Hounslow and who has been inspired by double
Olympic gold medallist,
Legendary Mo Farah.
Axmed Ducaale recited from the Quraan and after a welcome by HSC Members,
Hosts for the night
Waris Duale and
Maxamed Siciid Asahaaf, comperes for the evening, commenced the proceedings.
During the event:
Somali Cultural dance, Hiddo iyo Dhaqan performed
Aidarous Maliboi from
Birmingham performed a song

Xassan Siciid Maxamed from Hounslow recited Somali Poetry
Alluminae
Dance Group from Hounslow performed
During the performances some parents and guests among the 250 member audience stood up to dance and rock to the music.
Anjali Sakhardande,
Principal of Kingsley Academy, delivered the keynote speech which was followed by a number of other important speeches by
Councillor Sachin Gupta, Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor
Ruth Cadbury, Councillor
Jagdish Sharma,
Leader of the Council, Hodan
Haili, a teacher from
Ealing, Councillor Sue
Sampson, and
Ian Powell from Kingsley Academy.
The audience watched a documentary about the environment called "Our problem,
Our World" which was showcased by
Anab Abdalla from Sahan
Cares.
To round off the evening everyone sampled delicious
Somali cuisine, homemade Somali cakes and soft drinks in the Kingsley Academy dining hall.
The Founder and Chairman of Hounslow Somali Community, commented,
"It is clear from talking to the students and their parents in person throughout the evening that the attendees found the event to be the best Somali event organised in our borough. The young people who turned up were buzzing and their engagement with the speakers was in fact brilliant."
Thank you to HSC Members, Trustees,
Volunteers, Somali Cultural dance performers, the parents whom cooked
Somali food for the night and Kingsley Academy management for making our initial Annual Achievement Awards success and memorable.
