Plot: Ex-Special Forces operator Frank Martin lives what seems to be a quiet life along the French Mediterranean, hiring himself out as a mercenary "transporter" who moves goods--human or otherwise--from one place to another. No questions asked. Carrying out mysterious and sometimes dangerous tasks in his tricked-out BMW, Frank adheres to a strict set of rules, which he never breaks. Rule One: Never change the deal. Rule Two: No names--Frank doesn't want to know whom he's working for, or what he's transporting. Rule Three: never look in the package. Frank's newest transport seems no different from the countless ones he's done in the past. He's been hired by an American known only as "Wall Street" to make a delivery; but when Frank stops along the route, he notices his package is moving. Violating Rule Three, Frank looks inside the bag, finding its contents to be a beautiful, gagged woman. Frank's steadfast adherence to his other two rules--which make up his basic code of survival--also quickly fails, hurtling him and his new companion on a road leading to shocking secrets, deadly complications, and the last thing that Frank ever expected to come to believe: that rules are made to be broken.

Frank: You don't need your mouth to pee.
Frank: Transportation is a precise business.

Darren 'Wall Street' Bettencourt: For the record, there aren't 400 people in that container. Only 395 made it here alive.

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Gekko (Michael Douglas) lays out his creed of business ethics and how to get ahead in business to Bud (Charlie Sheen).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Greed is Good." This is the credo of the aptly named Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), the antihero of Oliver Stone's Wall Street. Gekko, a high-rolling corporate raider, is idolized by young-and-hungry broker Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen). Inveigling himself into Gekko's inner circle, Fox quickly learns to rape, murder and bury his sense of ethics. Only when Gekko's wheeling and dealing causes a near-tragedy on a personal level does Fox "reform"-though his means of destroying Gekko are every bit as underhanded as his previous activities on the trading floor. Director Stone, who cowrote Wall Street with Stanley Weiser, has claimed that the film was prompted by the callous treatment afforded his stockbroker father after 50 years in the business; this may be why the film's most compelling scenes are those between Bud Fox and his airline mechanic father (played by Charlie Sheen's real-life dad Martin). Ironically, Wall Street was released just before the October, 1987 stock market crash.

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
At the shareholder's meeting, Gekko (Michael Douglas) announces that "greed is good."

Volkswagen failed to disclose emission issues to U.S. officials as far back as 2004, according to the Wall Street Journal. That’s eleven years before the public first heard word of the scandal, just three months ago. ‘In the early 2000s, Volkswagen, in filing mandatory reports with the Federal government, failed to disclose a part that could affect the amount of pollution coming out of the tail pipe,’ said Justin Scheck, a reporter with The Wall Street Journal, based in London. ‘A few years later, when the part started showing up defective, they decided not to report some of the faulty parts to California regulators.’ The auto in question was an Audi sold in the U.S. in the early to mid-2000s. The aforementioned auto part is meant to keep the engine intact should the engine overheat. U.S. Volkswagen employees tried to tell regulators about the faulty part, Scheck said, but their bosses in Germany told them not to disclose the issue. He said it’s unclear why the employees were given such instructions. Scheck speaks with TheStreet’s Scott Gamm.

Quants are the math wizards and computer programmers in the engine room of our global financial system who designed the financial products that almost crashed Wall st. The credit crunch has shown how the global financial system has become increasingly dependent on mathematical models trying to quantify human (economic) behaviour. Now the quants are at the heart of yet another technological revolution in finance: trading at the speed of light.
What are the risks of treating the economy and its markets as a complex machine? Will we be able to keep control of this model-based financial system, or have we created a monster?
A story about greed, fear and randomness from the insides of Wall Street.
