He said if the election commission is ready for the upcoming vote, there is no reason to delay it. His statement comes amid bloody clashes between rival parties which left at least 2 people dead, 20 others injured. Violence broke out in the capital, Conakry, as president’s supporters threw stone at opposition protestors. Also, the police fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, who set shops on fire. Conde’s challengers claim that more preparation is required for the election. Conde took the office in 2010 after a controversial vote. He is likely to win the new round of election.

French President Francois Hollande is to arrive in Guinea, becoming the first Western leader to visit a nation hit hard by the deadly Ebola virus.
He will deliver "a message of solidarity" to Guinea, where more than 1,200 have died of Ebola.
France has pledged 100m euros (£79m; $125m) to help tackle the disease by opening several care centres in Guinea.
The outbreak was now "stable" in the West African country, the World Health Organization (WHO) said last week.
There were still some flare ups in the south-east, but things were improving in other prefectures, WHO co-ordinator Dr Guenael Rodier told the BBC.
More than 5,400 people have died in the latest outbreak, with Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia the worst hit.
President Hollande is expected to arrive in Guinea's capital Conakry later on Friday
During his one-day visit, he will tour healthcare centres and take part in round-table discussions on Ebola, according to the AFP news agency.

An Oregon teen faces animal abandonment charges after tossing dozens of guinea pigs into a drainage ditch, leaving the adorable animals to die over Halloween weekend, according to a KPTV report.
Cecilia Diaz, 19, has been charged with animal neglect and abandonment after leaving the furry critters in a Beaverton ditch.
The animals were discovered after a jogger spotted one of them during a morning run, the day after Halloween.
The guinea pig led the jogger to the nearby ditch, where she found dozens more of the cute rodents, who'd been abandoned the night before and left all by their lonesome.
Diaz, who had apparently bought the animals from a California breeder in hopes of selling them as snake bait, showed them the door after she was unable to find a buyer and unceremoniously put them out to pasture.
While two of the poor creatures didn't make it out alive, the rest are now under the care of a local vet and will be made available for adoption.

wn.com/Animal Cruelty Oregon Girl Tries To Feed Guinea Pigs To Snakes And Fails, Dumps Them In Ditch

'Mumu' in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea
'Mumu' in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.
Mumu is the traditional art of roasting (cooking) food in shallow, earthen pits using hot stones.
After an hour or two, the coverings are removed from the earth oven, and the delicious, succulent and hot food is taken out.
Food is then shared among the family, relatives and the community.

Guineans hope for cultural revival
Years of dictatorship and military rule have created poverty in Guinea, preventing artists and musicians from spreading the country's culture.
But following recent democratic elections, many are hoping the new government will focus on developing music, art and other culture.
Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege reports from Conakry.

Pizza de Cuy: Eating Guinea Pig Pizza in Lima, Peru
There are certain foods that are off-limits to certain people. I totally get that. There is a plethora of reasons why someone may not want to try something: ethics, religion, personal taste.
However, my strategy for embracing a new culture/cuisine is to dive in head first. I tend to check my initial emotions I have towards something with a willingness and openness to trying it at least once.

Peruvian Food Taste Test
While traveling in Peru and sampling many different kinds of Peruvian cuisine, we thought it would be a great idea to sit down and do a complete Peruvian food taste test. After raiding a local Wong's grocery store and a few corner stores nearby the comfy confines of our apartment in Miraflores, it was time to let our taste buds take over.
The Peruvian snacks we selected are typical things you wo

Study in Ghana, West Africa with ThisWorldMusic (www.thisworldmusic.com) and experience the best in traditional African music, arts and culture! People come from around the globe for the educational opportunity to study in Ghana, which is also known to many academics as the 'Gateway to Africa.' They come for the good food, friendly people, lively culture and historical sites like Kakum Park, Cape Coast Castle and Kejetia Market in Kumasi.
Many university study abroad students also enjoy studying in Ghana because English is the official language and because the country is very safe for foreigners. In the capital city Accra, musicians and dancers can learn about Ghanaian highlife music, kpanlogo (sometimes spelled panlogo) African drumming, hip-life music, and other forms of music, art and drumming of Africa. People enjoy eating indigenous African food such as fufu, banku and tilapia fish with jollof rice. Other people who travel to Ghana go to Kumasi, the former seat of the Ashanti Kingdom, where there is still an active African chief.
Ghana was formerly called the 'Gold Coast' and to this day there is active gold mining that takes place. In addition, they recently discovered oil, which may change the nation someday from a developing country into an industrialized country. Oil companies have recently started offshore oil drilling near the Ghanaian city of Takoradi, which is the capital of the Western Region. The potential for economic growth is quite astounding, and greater than at any other time in Ghana's history. Those on summer study abroad programs and others who study in Ghana know about this growth phenomenon from studying Nigeria, which is also in West Africa though not right on the Gulf of Guinea. Since Ghana is on the Atlantic coast, it borders Togo on one side and Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) on the other.

Enter into this equation guinea pig pizza - known locally as Cuy. This thin sliced pizza didn't have generous amounts of cheese, sauce or any other topping aside from Cuy.
Audrey decided to sit this one out which was entirely cool. Come watch to find out my reaction to eating a Cuy Pizza slice in Lima, Peru.
Pizza de Cuy: Eating Guinea Pig Pizza in Lima, Peru Food Video Transcript:
Alright, for today's food video this is going to be one of the more exotic things we've tried in Peru - Guinea Pig. Locally it is known as Cuy. And we've been showing you a lot of desserts and other types of things but this is something that is widely eaten in Peru and so when you're in a different country and a different culture my strategy is always just to immerse myself and try everything new that I possibly can.
So, with that in mind, I am going to be trying Guinea Pig in the form of a pizza slice if you can believe it or not.
So here is the big unveil.
I'll hold that up here. And as you can see this is a pretty minimalistic thin sliced pizza except for the massive Guinea pig meatballs.
Alright, it is time to dig right in. It is time for the first bite and I'm going for a slice of the meatball.
Definitely one of the more interesting pizza's I've ever had before. Usually when I'm even on a meat lover pizza there isn't pieces of meat this big, so it is going to take me a second to chew it.
You know what that is pretty good. I can tell that this meat has been seasoned a lot. It tastes a little bit like an Italian sausage. But it also has a very game-y flavor which reminds me a little bit of a wild rabbit. For example.
Let's get another piece of the Cuy. Does it have any bones? It doesn't, no. But it is very meaty. And what I mean by that is chewy. So, it's not the kind of thing. It's not the kind of pizza slice you can just devour when you're actually taking a bite out of the Guinea Pig. You've got to chew it really slowly.
So yeah, that isn't bad. I would say it is a bit of an acquired taste. I wouldn't go out of my way to order it again. But I've definitely had worse pizza than this. So this isn't too bad at all.
So a little bit more information about eating Guinea Pigs in Peru. It is traditional Andean food. Typically, the Guinea Pig, the Cuy, is skewered on a spit. And when it is served on a plate typically it is its entire body. It has its head still intact.
This is part of our Travel in Peru series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Peruvian culture, Peruvian arts, Peruvian foods, Peruvian religion, Peruvian cuisine and Peruvian people. All things Peruano.

In this full documentary "Ambassadors of the Jungle" we meet the tribes of Papua New Guinea, their cannibal character, the seductive dances that they perform for courtship, how they smear their naked bodies with mud to defend themselves, how they cook in the jungle , their houses (tambarans) and their rituals torturing her naked body to resemble their crocodile gods. Come with us to this forest which connects the purest nature and the most savage of their tribes.

00:10 These mysterious lands which seem to rise out of the clouds are the Highlands, in the east of the island of New Guinea, to the north of Australia. Ambassadors of the Jungle live here. The fierce nature of these tribes, the practice of cannibalism and the fact that some groups cut off the heads of their enemies all this made the island a fearful place, which travellers tried to avoid.
09:00 The ‘mud men’ tribe live near Goroca, along the upper reaches of the Asaro river. Their strange means of defence is to turn into spirits and frighten off their enemies. For this, they make these masks of mud which, with their grotesque, exaggerated features. Once they have finished their masks, the warriors daub their bodies with mud, which they will later dye grey with another, more liquid, type of mud.
15:13 Today they have gathered together to prepare mono. The ‘monos’, the main ingredient, are small, sweet bananas, which they scrape with a bamboo cane knife, shredding them into small pieces. Once cooked, this pulp will be of the texture of a thick bechamel sauce.
21:38 We are going to see the mummies of the Enga or Kukukuku that is the name normally given to these cannibal warriors who live on the plains of the Aseki river. Cannibalism has always been common practice among the Kukukuku, and it is this that has made them legendary. They ate thieves and prisoners of war, after fattening them up for a while. Leaders and warriors who died in battle were mummified. Cannibalism has almost entirely died out, though there are still isolated cases of human flesh being eaten in the most remote regions.
27:53 An important institution for these peoples is the Tanimet, seductive dances or courting ceremony. The men invite the women from a different village. The Highlander culture is exogamous it is forbidden to marry relatives and so they have to look for wives outside their own village. Men can have as many wives as they can support, but the women can have only one husband. The songs speak of love affairs, and list the obligations of the future wifes.
30:25 In the next part of this documentary we going to north of Papua New Guinea where we find a very different region to the highlands, around the Sepik river. The spiritual life of these people is centred on the tambaran or house of the spirits. On special occasions, they get together, dressed in traditional costumes, and dance naked around the tambaran. In this way, they call on the spirits that protect them.
41:18 In the village of Timbumeri, on the southern shore of lake Chambri, the garamut tom-toms sound out, announcing the initiation ceremony of the crocodile men. From dawn, all the men of the village start work, preparing the ritual. By the river, beside the tambaran, they build a crocodile nest. The uninitiated, and the women, are not allowed to see what happens inside this area which represents the heart of the spirit of the king of crocodiles.
The men of these societies in Sepik subject themselves to real torture. With several hundred cuts, their skin takes on the appearance of that of their crocodile gods.

Any visitor to Mexico should visit the cultural centre of Oaxaca in the South of Mexico. The city is a fine representation of the cultural diversity of Mexico, and is a regional landmark because of its ties to the heritage of many of the indigenous people and their vibrant cultures. Every culture (including Hispanic) brings its own offering and flavour to a city which is widely admired, respected, and sometimes worshipped by both its residents and visitors.
Oaxaca gets its name from the entire Southern region in which it lies, given by one of the many ancient cultural groups that existed in the area during the time of la conquista. When the Spanish first landed they were astounded by the great structures that the indigenous people had made out of the green stone that is found in the foothills of the Sierra Madre, the very mountain range with which Oaxaca has protected itself for thousands of years. Since Oaxaca’s ancient conception, its people have used the city as a place to share wares, food and laughter.
Nestled within the centre of Oaxaca lies the Ocotlán Market, a colourful, hustle and bustle filled with local delicacies, fresh produce, arts and crafts. Ocotlán Market has existed for as long as the original colonial square has been in existence. While the old Spanish square would have been the sight of public hangings as well as the wholesale of local farm crops, the modern rendition of the market is a lot friendlier. Locals flock to the market to get their hands on ingredients like apples, onions, cornflour and even live animals like chickens and guinea pigs, all destined for the cooking pot.
The market is also one of the most attractive locations for tourists. Apart from being able to see how the locals interact, in what may be confused as one enormous family gathering, the wandering tourist can sample local delicacies like enfrijoladas. Enfrijoladas can be summed up as the Mexican version of an Italian lasagne. Corn tortillas are rolled up around a mole and bean filling before they are placed in an ovenproof dish. Topped with cheese the enfrijoladas are grilled until tender, juicy and filled with the heady flavoured mole. Visiting Ocotlán Market will also have the tourist sampling other local favourites like the local estofado stew or the Spanish picadillo.
If you happen by Ocotlán Market then make sure you visit the restaurant named after Frida Kahlo de Rivera. If you are only a little familiar with Mexican history and art, Frida is the celebrated artist who is famous for her self-portraits in which she emphasised her raw emotion very openly on canvas, a contradiction to the way in which women were so commonly depicted in the 1930’s. Because her work was celebrated she became an icon for the indigenous American cultures, feminists and even communists. (And yes, Frida is the Mexican woman with the dominant eyebrows that you’ll come across in many renditions of her original paintings). Take a look at Frida’s biography here:

While traveling in Peru and sampling many different kinds of Peruvian cuisine, we thought it would be a great idea to sit down and do a complete Peruvian food taste test. After raiding a local Wong's grocery store and a few corner stores nearby the comfy confines of our apartment in Miraflores, it was time to let our taste buds take over.
The Peruvian snacks we selected are typical things you would find anywhere including Peruvian snacks, Peruvian junk food, Peruvian chocolate bars, Peruvian chips, Peruvian wafers, Peruvian sodas and Peruvian candies just to name a few. When it comes to eating sometimes our eyes are much bigger than our stomachs ;)
Overall, when considering things to do in Peru, I can't think of anything better than tucking into the local favorites. Peru (and Lima in particular) is the foodie capital of South America and trying many of these snacks for the first time was an adventure for our taste buds. Watch us as we react to the food. The following is a comprehensive list of all the things we tried from sweet to salty:
1) Chifles - Salty banana chips
2) Chin Chin - Chocolate cookies with colored sprinkles
3) Andean Native Potato Crisps - Purple Potato Chips
4) Inca Kola - Peruvian Cola that golden, refreshing and sweet
5) Perita - Pear candies that taste more like banana
6) Cua Cua - Chocolate covered Peruvian wafers with a duck logo
7) Doña Pepa - Peruvian cookie with chocolate and sprinkles
8) Camote - Sweet potoate chips that were really salty
9) Inka Corn - Peruvian corn nuts flavored with artificial cheese
10) Yucca chips - Starchy chips made from the Yucca root
11) Sublime - Peruvian White Chocolate with peanuts
12) Chicha Morada - Sweet purple corn juice that is refreshing
13) Sublime con leche con mani - Peanut milk chocolate
14) Besos de Moza - Krembo chocolate cookie with marshmallow
Out of all of the foods we taste tested I liked the Inca Kola and Besos de Moza the most while Audrey was infatuated with the Doña Pepa. Do you have a favorite Peruvian snack to eat? Let us know in the comments section below.
This is part of our Travel in Peru series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Peruvian culture, Peruvian arts, Peruvian foods, Peruvian religion, Peruvian cuisine and Peruvian people. All things Peruano. The best of Comida Peruana.

Guinea Worm Eradication and Health Technology

Ebola outbreak: Health team 'found dead' in Guinea
Officials in Guinea searching for a team of health workers and journalists who went missing while trying to raise awareness of Ebola have found several bodies.
A spokesman for Guinea's government said the bodies included those of three journalists in the team.
They went missing after being attacked on Tuesday in a village near the southern city of Nzerekore.
More than 2,600 people have now died from the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
It is the world's worst outbreak of the deadly disease, with officials warning that more than 20,000 people could ultimately be infected.
West African media divided on response to Ebola
The three doctors and three journalists disappeared after being pelted with stones by residents when they arrived in the village of Wome - near where the Ebola outbreak was first recorded.
One of the journalists managed to escape and told reporters that she could hear the villagers looking for them while she was hiding.
A government delegation, led by the health minister, had been dispatched to the region but they were unable to reach the village by road because a main bridge had been blocked.

Global Journalist: Equatorial Guinea's oil curse
At first glance, the small West African nation of Equatorial Guinea is doing well.
Sandwiched between Cameroon and Gabon on the Gulf of Guinea, the oil-rich nation of 820,000 has a per capita GDP equivalent to that of the Czech Republic or Portugal.
But the picture is more complicated than that.
Much of its population lives in conditions similar to that in the world’s poorest countries. Infant

Port Moresby is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea (PNG). It is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the southeastern coast of the Papuan Peninsula of the island of New Guinea. The city emerged as a trade centre in second half of the 19th century. During World War II it was a prime objective for conquest by the Imperial Japanese forces during 1942–43 as a staging point and air base to cut off Australia from Southeast Asia and the Americas.
According to a survey of world cities by the Intelligence Unit of The Economist, Port Moresby is one of the world's least livable cities (ranked 139 of 140 cities rated).
Although Port Moresby is surrounded by Central Province, of which it is also the capital, it is not part of that province, but forms the National Capital District.

=======================
Port Moresby Nature Park (formerly The National Botanical Gardens) A must for the visitor. Located next to University of Papua New Guinea, it has some amazing examples of PNG wildlife such as birds of paradise, cassowaries, tree kangaroos, multiple wallaby species, and many other native bird species. Lush, tropical and well kept gardens. A great break from the dry, dusty surrounds and bustle of the capital city. If you are lucky you might catch a wedding while you are there as some locals like to conduct the ceremony in the gardens.
Port Moresby Golf Club A nice golf course located right across from the government buildings. The prices are quite acceptable for visitors. Be careful, crocodiles inhabit the water holes of the golf course. The main building has a nice restaurant where one can have lunch and have a few SP beers (South Pacific beers) after a round of golf.
The Ela Beach Craft Market Run by the Ela Murray International School and held on the last Saturday of each month, this market brings together local artifacts from all over Papua New Guinea. An easy way to get some beautiful carvings, handwoven baskets, or any of a number of other things to bring home as souvenirs.
Touaguba Hill Perhaps not so much to see, but this is where the ambassadorial residences are located and is also where many of the well-to-do expats and locals live. There is a nice view from the top of the hill overlooking the centre of the city and the ocean.
Moitaka Wildlife Sanctuary, Sir Hubert Murray Highway. The Moitaka Wildlife Sanctuary is now closed for re-development.
Hiri Moale Festival. This takes place on the weekend of PNG's Independence Day in mid-September. The centrepiece is a race of up to 100 traditional Lakatoi canoes, recalling the sea voyages undertaken by the Motuan people from the Port Moresby area who exchanged sago and clay pots with the people of neighbouring Gulf Province. The departure of the canoes from Port Moresby's Ela Beach is really spectacular. The Festival is the city's main cultural show with traditional performances, as well as the canoes.

Scuba Diving A number of reefs and wrecks are within close proximity to Port Moresby and diving can be arranged through day vessels or on nearby Loloata Island (which has its own dive shop). There are a variety of sites and depths for all experience levels.

Indonesia is one of the most amazing and diverse countries in the world. It has ancient temples, beautiful beaches, hundreds of volcanoes, exotic wildlife, and abundant natural resources. Indonesia includes some of the largest and most famous islands in the world, including Bali, Borneo, Java, Komodo, New Guinea, and Sumatra—more than 17,500 islands in all.
The real beauty of Indonesia is found in the eyes and smiles of its people. Taking the time to learn some simple Indonesian words and phrases will help you unveil more of this country's wonderful treasures. Most Indonesians are happy, friendly, and curious people. They often will speak to you as you cross paths. They typically will ask where you are from and where you are going. When you have the opportunity, try to converse with locals. It can be educational, informative, and rewarding. Most Indonesian people know at least a few English words and are eager to learn more. Many Indonesians are very articulate in English, especially those involved in tourism, retail, and international business.
This language and travel guide will help you get the most from your trip by guiding you to sites and towns to visit, activities to enjoy, and places to stay. It also will help you find the right Indonesian words to use at the right time. Travel video about destination Borneo in Malaysia.
Borneo is the third largest island in the world and the northern region that comprises Sarawak and Sabah has been part of the Malaysian Federation since 1963. A hidden paradise, mysterious and unknown. We begin our journey in Sarawak in the north west of the island, in the capital, Kuching. The Sarawak River divides the city in two and on one of the banks are the buildings of Kampung Boyan, an old water town. Situated on a hill is Fort Margarita that dates back to 1841. We visit a village of the Bidayum Tribe and to the border of the South Indonesian section of the island. The Bidayum live in traditional long houses and survive from agriculture and river fishing. The long houses measure up to a hundred and fifty metres in length and are inhabited by several families. Between Sarawak and Sabah is the tiny sultanate of Brunei Darussalm whose capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, looks like something from an exotic fantasy. In the north east of Sabah is the majestic Mount Kinabalu, at more than thirteen thousand feet above sea level the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea. Borneo is a country of natural wonder, full of adventure. A land of head hunters, mysterious cultures and exotic wildlife and an island far off the main tourist trail. A veritable hidden paradise set amid the South China Sea.

Papua New Guinea Travel Video - Travelling in PNG can be challenging. With almost no Travelism infrastructure and limited information available in books and on websites, it can feel like youre stepping into the great unknown. But this is exactly why travellers find this country so compelling. Nothing is contrived for Travelists and every experience is authentic - even the main island of Bougainville is a largely DIY travel experience.
The striking natural beauty and myriad complex cultures offer some riveting and truly life-affirming experiences. The island of New Guinea, of which Papua New Guinea is the eastern part, is only one-ninth as big as Australia, yet it has just as many mammal species, and more kinds of birds and frogs. PNG is Australias biological mirror-world. Both places share a common history going back tens of millions of years, but Australia is flat and has dried out, while PNG is wet and has become mountainous. As a result, Australian kangaroos bound across the plains, while in PNG they climb in the rainforest canopy.
Enjoy this amazing Papua New Guinea Travel Video Guide...

Infant mortality rates are worse than in Ethiopia or war-ravaged South Sudan. Many people lack access to clean drinking water and about half the population lives in poverty.
A large chunk of Equatorial Guinea’s oil revenues are thought to have been lost to corruption. All this has taken place under the watch of President Teodoro Obiang, who’s been charge since 1979, when he ousted his own uncle in a military coup.
From the capital Malabo, Obiang has ruled with an iron fist as his son, the country’s second vice president, has made headlines around the world for lavish spending on a fleet of Ferraris and Bentleys, mansions in Malibu and Paris, for acquiring perhaps the world’s greatest collection of Michael Jackson memorabilia.
When it comes to media, Equatorial Guinea ranks near the bottom of Reporters Without Borders World Press Freedom Index, grouped in with countries like China, Somalia and Iran. All broadcast media in the country is controlled by the government and there is virtually no private press.
Our guests this week:
*Tutu Alicante (@TutuAlicante), Executive Director of Equatorial Guinea Justice, a human rights group.
*Tawanda Kanhema (@KanhemaPhoto), the producer of the 2014 documentary “The Prince of Malabo: Power, Money and Impunity,” which examines corruption in the country. He’s also a producer for Al-Jazeera’s digital news platform AJ +.
*Oscar Scafidi (@BradtEGguide), a travel writer who is the author of the upcoming Bradt Guide to Equatorial Guinea and a business risk consultant on Africa.
