The term Flemish Community (Dutch: Vlaamse Gemeenschap [ˈvlaːmsə ʝəˈmeːnsxɑp] ( ); French: Communauté flamande; German: Flämische Gemeinschaft [ˈflɛːmɪʃə ɡəˈmaɪ̯nʃaft]) has two distinct, though related, meanings:

"We want to wish them good luck with the referendum today and we hope that they will win, that the 'Yes' camp will win. But I think we are reaching a new Europe now. A Europe from free states, free nations. That is what we want," said Bart de Valck, president of the Flemish People's Movement.
As night fell, demonstrators lit candles and put them on the giant Scottish flag.

STORYLINE
Belgians were voting on Sunday in general elections that were widely seen as a vote on an orderly break-up of the country where 6.5 (m) million Dutch and 4 (m) million French-speakers were locked in a quarrelsome union.
Polls predicted a solid showing for a mainstream Flemish party, whose leader wants Dutch-speaking Flanders to sever its unhappy ties with Francophone Wallonia and, in time, join the European Union as a separate country.
This is a nightmare scenario for poorer Wallonia, which greatly depends on Flemish funds, and shows how linguistic disputes dominate national politics.
Voting is mandatory. Some 7.7 (m) million Belgians were to cast ballots at 10,630 voting stations.
Polling opened for seven hours at 0600 GMT.
Elections were called one year early after Premier Yves Leterme's five-party coalition fell apart on 26 April in a dispute over a bilingual voting district.
That spat has gone unresolved since 2003 and pushed the New Flemish Alliance (NVA) - a tiny, centrist party only a few years ago - into pole position.
It is forecast to win a quarter of the vote in Flanders.
NVA leader Bart de Wever - who could become Belgium's next premier - cast his vote in Antwerp on Sunday.
He wants Flanders to eventually join the European Union as a separate country.
"We would like to see direction of the step towards confederalism because we see that federalism just has not worked," he said.
De Wever wants to shift the national government's last remaining powers, notably justice, health and social security, to Flanders and Wallonia.
That would complete 30 years of ever greater self-rule for the two regions.
There are no comparable separatist sentiments in Wallonia.

I know many of you hate the Disney Dub, but I had to use for fairness. Disney movies are available in both Flemish and Dutch. Therefore they would be spoken with almost the same words in almost the same voice and tone. This way people can focus on the sound of the language without other factors that may cloud their judgement.

Die Lore - Lore
1. In the forest, the green forest
There stands a foresters house
One sees there every morning
So fresh and free from sorrow
The forresters daughter outside
Chorus:
Tiralala, tiralala
Tira, tira, tiralala, lala
Lore, Lore, Lore, Lore
Beautiful are the girls
From seventien, eightteen years
Lore, Lore, Lore, Lore
You find beautifull girls everywhere
And if spring comes into the valley
Send my regards to Lore again
Ade, ade, ade
2. The forrester and the daughter
They both shot well
The forrester shot a little deer
The daughter hit a little student
Deep into the young heart
3. When I stand on the mountain heights
Looking down in the valleys
Then I love to see
From far, far away
The house of the young forrester girl

De laatste Goten – The last of the Goths
1. Make way, thy people, wherever we go
We are the last of the Goths
A dead king we carry
We process towards the boats
2. With shield by shield and spear by spear
So we overcome the winds
Until we find in the far, grey see
The isle of Thule
3. That must be the loyal island
There, justice and honour still rule
There we lay our king
In the grave of oak spears
4. We march, hear that dark tred
Through Rome’s false lanes
We carry our king along
He gave his life for us
5. Make way, thy people, wherever we go
We are the last of the Goths
A dead king we carry
We process towards the boats
--
Wij zijn bereid – We are prepared
1. Dawn breaks beautifull
The flag flies high
Whoever’s not brave cannot stand with us
Whoever doesn’t dare has to perish
When the hard struggle comes
We are prepared!
2. Once the hour will come
Burning as fire
That the enemy stands grim before us
And the hour of Flemish victory strikes
When the hard struggle comes
We are prepared!
3. Faithfull until death
Flanders will be great
If you fall tomorrow and I end up alone
Comrade, I’ll be loyal and fight for two
When the hard struggle comes
We are prepared!

The term Flemish Community (Dutch: Vlaamse Gemeenschap [ˈvlaːmsə ʝəˈmeːnsxɑp] ( ); French: Communauté flamande; German: Flämische Gemeinschaft [ˈflɛːmɪʃə ɡəˈmaɪ̯nʃaft]) has two distinct, though related, meanings:
Culturally and sociologically, it refers to Flemish organizations, media, social and cultural life; alternative expressions for this concept might be the "Flemish people" or the "Flemish nation" (in a similar sense as the Scottish, Welsh, or Québécois people or nations, referring to a national identity). The term "community" should then not be capitalized.

In this video I asked people to give their impression of Dutch. Then have them listen to a clip of Dutch from and imitate what they heard. The clip I used is from the Christmas address of King Willem Alexander.
I know most people in the Netherlands may not speak as formally as the King giving his Christmas message. If you know any videos of Dutch that sounds more conversational and natural, feel free to let me know in the comments. I might use it my future videos about Dutch. Thank you!

STORYLINE:
Five months after elections, government negotiations to reform power-sharing between Belgium's six (m) million Dutch-speaking Flemings and 4.5 million (m) Francophones collapsed on Wednesday, throwing the nation further into political crisis.
French-speaking parties walked out of a parliamentary vote on the linguistic carve-up of an electoral district in and around Brussels, arguing it was an unacceptable unilateral Flemish move.
In an exclusive interview with AP Television, Freddy Thielemans, the socialist mayor of Brussels, expressed his view on the political crisis and Wednesday's parliamentary vote.
"I think that this declaration is very nationalistic and is firstly very near to the Flemish far right movement demands and I am surprised that democratic parties follow that demand, and I also think it is de facto the end of a shared living, that's something that goes beyond my belief," he said.
Thielemans also pleaded for a protection of the Francophones living in Flanders equal to the Dutch-speaking Flemings living in the Brussels Region.
"In the same way as in the Brussels Region, where the Flemish minority is very protected, is strictly protected, we think that Flanders has to give the same protection to French speaking citizens," he said.
"If this is not the case, there must be a popular consultation and see with the concerned population if they want to stay in the new district or to enter in the Brussels region," he added.
Belgium has already broken the record of 148 days without a government on Monday. It is now up to King Albert to decide how to get out of the impasse.
There was talk of moving towards a government that would only take care of urgent political and economic business, leaving the linguistic disputes for later - perhaps years later.
Late on Tuesday, government negotiator Yves Leterme put forward a compromise to Christian Democrat and Liberal parties from both sides of the language border that slices Belgium into Dutch-speaking Flanders in the north and Francophone Wallonia in the south.
Flemish negotiators accepted the plan as a basis for more talks, but their Francophone counterparts rejected it.
Politicians and pundits braced for one of the biggest political crises for the past half century in Belgium, a country where linguistic issues always lurk just below the surface of politics.
Leterme was the big winner of the June 10 elections but failed to achieve palpable progress on the two most divisive issues - the rights of the Francophone minority living in Flanders close to Brussels and a further devolution of powers to the regions.
in a rare show of public patriotism.

Sven Gatz, the Flemish Minister for Culture, is defending himself against claims he’s racist after he tweeted a picture of himself dressed as the character Zwarte Piet, or Black Pete. Black Pete is a traditional Christmas character who is celebrated in the Netherlands each year with people dressing in blackface to play the part. In the picture, Gatz is shown in blackface with his lips painted red, while wearing a black curly wig. Is the character a harmless tradition, or is it a racist characterization dating back to colonial times? Watch it on the Lip News with Elliot Hill and Mark Sovel.
