Originally inhabited by Khoisan peoples, the region which comprises modern Zambia was colonised during the Bantu expansion of the thirteenth century. After visits by European explorers in the eighteenth century, Zambia became the British colony of Northern Rhodesia towards the end of the nineteenth century. For most of the colonial period, the country was governed by an administration appointed from London with the advice of the British South Africa Company.
On 24 October 1964, the country declared independence from the United Kingdom and then-prime minister Kenneth Kaunda became the inaugural president. Kaunda's socialist United National Independence Party (UNIP) maintained power from the 1964 until 1991. From 1972 to 1991 Zambia was a single-party state with the UNIP as the sole-legal political party, with the goal of uniting the nation under the banner of 'One Zambia, One Nation'. Kaunda was succeeded by Frederick Chiluba of the social-democratic Movement for Multi-Party Democracy in 1991, during which the country saw a rise in social-economic growth and increased decentralisation of government.
The political and socio-economic climate in the Southern African country Zambia, continues to be characterised by a weak economy, falling coal price, as well as deteriorating infrastructure. Economic challenges and unemployment were key campaign priority areas during last year's presidential elections, that saw Patriotic
Front's Edgar Lungu elected to replace the late President Michael Sata. The United Party for National Development millonnaire-leader Hakainde Hichilema, lost the vote to President Lungu by just under two percentage points. Mr Hichilema castigated the polls as a sham, alleging irregularities and vote rigging. Meanwhile, Zambi

As a nation of over 15 million people (2015 stats) Zambia still faces the same economic challenges that other developing nations face in a post-colonial world (and neo-colonial world). However the country is spiritually wealthy with high levels of Christian zeal that we hardly encounter in Western nations which were once Christian strongholds/fortresses.
The Christian declaration is a plea for God’s spiritual covering upon Zambia to bless it and protect it from anti-Christ entities that are gaining more ground in these end-times. This declaration defies prophetic trends that we’re seeing among most nations shunning Christianity in government circles.
Western nations which were once Christian strongholds are increasingly becoming anti-Christian as their governments permit laws that defy Christian and biblical principles. The secular media (largely through film and music) further erodes Christianity by promoting cultural values and standards that are counter to biblical principles.
While Christianity is declining in the West the opposite is happening in many non-Western nations. Zambia is among such nations where Christianity is blossoming. Let us pray this remains whereby we’ll see the West being revived, re-evangelized and spiritually rescued by these non-Western nations.

This is probably the nicest hostel I’ve ever stayed in. I feel like I’m lying by calling it a hostel. It’s more of a motel, but without the sleazy euphemism? Er..assumptions made by using the word motel. There is lush green space, a swanky pool and bar area and free pancakes at 3pm! Who’s at their hostel at 3pm though? ;0 Well me my first day there, so I can re

Travel video about destination Victoria Falls.
Located in the south of the African continent and located on the Zambia/Zimbabwe border, the Victoria Falls are one of the world's most amazing and impressive wonders of nature.Between February and March when the Zambesi is at its strongest, an average of more than five hundred million litres of water shoot over edge of the waterfall every minute. Indeed, the dimensions of the Victoria Falls beats all records: at an average height of ninety seven metres, the Victoria Falls are around one and a half times as long and also twice as high as the world famous Niagara Falls in North America.Dense tropical rain forests now cover the former basins of earlier waterfalls and have thus created vegetation that would not normally thrive in the surrounding area. According British explorer, David Livingstone, the waterfalls were such an incredible sightthat even passing angels would have been awestruck and amazed by their outstanding beauty. Even a century and a half after they were first discovered the majestic Victoria Falls are still one of the greatest natural spectacles in the world.

Africa has 54 sovereign countries—the most on any continent—and is the second largest continent in terms of both land area and population. Africa is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, by the Red Sea to the northeast, and by the Indian Ocean to the southeast. Africa is a vast continent spanning over 8,000km (5,000 mi) north to south and 7,500km (4,800 mi) east to west (not including islands) and contains a wide array of peoples, skin colours, religions, and cultures. Africa contains the world's longest river—the 6,650km long (4,100 mi) Nile River running from Burundi to Egypt—while the Congo River in the DRC is the second largest in terms of discharge as well as the deepest with a depth of over 230m (750 ft) in some spots. Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro is the world's tallest free-standing mountain at 5,890m (19,340 ft). Djibouti's Lake Assal is the second lowest point on Earth, the saltiest lake outside Antarctica, and one of the hottest places on Earth.
While the first activity most people associate with Africa is safaris, there are endless possibilities for adventure. You can purchase crafts in markets, venture into the Sahara with a Tuareg caravan, visit pygmy villages, hike through jungle to watch gorillas, relax on tropical islands in the Indian Ocean, snack on exotic treats, travel down a river in a dugout "pirogue", travel across savannah on a colonial-era railway, and much more.
Africa is a very diverse continent, with each country, or even each part of a country having its own unique culture. While it is common for people in the West to refer to Africa as if it was a single country, one should remember the sheer size of the continent, and that Africa is not one country but 54 different countries, meaning that it is impossible to make generalisations of Africa as a whole.
Tragically misunderstood by many people as a land of poverty, corruption, war and famine, and simply as a land of suffering—a misconception only bolstered by the media and the numerous NGOs on the continent—Africa today is a vast continent with many bustling metropolises, friendly people, and amazingly diverse and beautiful landscapes. While there are some places resembling the stereotypical Africa of war, famine, and poverty, most of the continent is peaceful, well-fed, and of working class .

Many visitors are attracted by the African flora and fauna and several countries benefit from Safari tourism to African National Parks.
Natural Wonders
Africa is home to many famous natural wonders, from the Nile River, the world's longest river, to Victoria Falls. The continent is home to two of the world's four volcanoes with permanent lava lakes—the dramatic Mount Nyiragongo which rises hundreds of metres above Goma, DRC and Erta Ale in Ethiopia's stark Danakil Depression (the others are Mt.Erebus in Antarctica & Kilauea in Hawaii). Both volcanoes can be climbed by the adventurous tourist to stand at the rim gazing in awe at the bubbling lava below, an especially incredible sight at night!

Historical civilizations
While the continent's diverse and unique wildlife is often all that is mentioned in regards to African travel, as home to the oldest civilizations on the planet, Africa has equally impressive cultures and history. The most famous civilization on the continent, and arguably in the world, is that of ancient Egypt. From the southern city of Abu Simbel to Luxor and all the way north to Alexandria and Cairo, including the Pyramids of Giza, the only surviving of the original Seven Wonders of the World and the most iconic symbols of this ancient kingdom. Sites from the Nubian-Kushite Kingdom that broke away from Egypt can be found in Sudan, such as Gebel Barkal and many other pyramids in Meroe.
Ethiopia offers many ruins from the ancient Axumite Kingdom where the Queen of Sheba ruled. The obelisks and Dungur ruins in Axum were built prior to the kingdom's conversion to Christianity, while many other great monuments, such as the Ezana Stone and the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion, where the Arc of the Covenant is said to be stored, were built after the conversion as religious sites. Other famous Christian structures built later by the kingdom's successor, the Abyssinian Empire, especially during the 12th and 13th centuries, can also be found in Lalibela.

Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya (Tokaleya Tonga: the Smoke that Thunders), is a waterfall in southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Size Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
======================
While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is classified as the largest, based on its width of 1,708 metres (5,604 ft) and height of 108 metres (354 ft),[8] resulting in the world's largest sheet of falling water. Victoria Falls is roughly twice the height of North America's Niagara Falls and well over twice the width of its Horseshoe Falls. In height and width Victoria Falls is rivalled only by Argentina and Brazil's Iguazu Falls. See table for comparisons.
For a considerable distance upstream from the falls the Zambezi flows over a level sheet of basalt, in a shallow valley, bounded by low and distant sandstone hills. The river's course is dotted with numerous tree-covered islands, which increase in number as the river approaches the falls. There are no mountains, escarpments, or deep valleys; only a flat plateau extending hundreds of kilometres in all directions.
The falls are formed as the full width of the river plummets in a single vertical drop into a transverse chasm 1708 metres (5604 ft) wide, carved by its waters along a fracture zone in the basalt plateau. The depth of the chasm, called the First Gorge, varies from 80 metres (260 ft) at its western end to 108 metres (354 ft) in the centre. The only outlet to the First Gorge is a 110 metres (360 ft) wide gap about two-thirds of the way across the width of the falls from the western end, through which the whole volume of the river pours into the Victoria Falls gorges.
There are two islands on the crest of the falls that are large enough to divide the curtain of water even at full flood: Boaruka Island (or Cataract Island) near the western bank, and Livingstone Island near the middle—the point from which Livingstone first viewed the falls. At less than full flood, additional islets divide the curtain of water into separate parallel streams. The main streams are named, in order from Zimbabwe (west) to Zambia (east): Devil's Cataract (called Leaping Water by some), Main Falls, Rainbow Falls (the highest) and the Eastern Cataract.
The Zambezi river, upstream from the falls, experiences a rainy season from late November to early April, and a dry season the rest of the year. The river's annual flood season is February to May with a peak in April,[9] The spray from the falls typically rises to a height of over 400 metres (1,300 ft), and sometimes even twice as high, and is visible from up to 48 km (30 mi) away. At full moon, a "moonbow" can be seen in the spray instead of the usual daylight rainbow. During the flood season, however, it is impossible to see the foot of the falls and most of its face, and the walks along the cliff opposite it are in a constant shower and shrouded in mist. Close to the edge of the cliff, spray shoots upward like inverted rain, especially at Zambia's Knife-Edge Bridge.[10]
As the dry season takes effect, the islets on the crest become wider and more numerous, and in September to January up to half of the rocky face of the falls may become dry and the bottom of the First Gorge can be seen along most of its length. At this time it becomes possible (though not necessarily safe) to walk across some stretches of the river at the crest. It is also possible to walk to the bottom of the First Gorge at the Zimbabwean side. The minimum flow, which occurs in November, is around a tenth of the April figure; this variation in flow is greater than that of other major falls, and causes Victoria Falls' annual average flow rate to be lower than might be expected based on the maximum flow.

Fawlty Towers Video Tour - Livingstone Zambia

Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/bucketthis
I stayed at a hostel named after one of my favourite British comedies, Fawlty Towers. I was drawn by the name, but stayed based on the amazing reviews and location. Who’s at their hostel at 3pm though? ;0 Well me my first day there, so I can review the pancakes. They were excellent!
There are 24 rooms in this joint, ranging from deluxe private rooms to dorm style rooms. I decided to spoil myself after my camping stint in Botswana and got a private room. Its easier to edit video in the wee hours when you’re alone. I did get a tour of the facility and the dorm rooms and pretty darn nice.
The location is central and I believe the closest hostel to the falls. Though you’ll still need to cab to the falls, unless you’re dumb like me and enjoy long walks on country roads with baboons and elephants.
The rooms range from $15/night for a dorm room to $75/night for a twin deluxe ensuite. Word on the street is that you can camp there too, but I saw nary a camper.
You probably want to book this sucker is advance because it is well known and could sell out fast.
Thanks!

God used us to help them see they can also do wat Jesus did, simply because they believe in Jesus, like it says in John 14:12.
We got some of them activated in ministering healing on the street and in their churches. I wish I had caught more of these times on video.

Meanwhile, Zambia's Young African Leaders Initiative has blamed Mr Hichilema for playing double standards on the issue of Constitutional reforms.

Powerful! Zambia Christian nation declaration by President Frederick Chiluba
Powerful! Zambia Christian nation declaration by President Frederick Chiluba
published:19 Jan 2015
views:21
President Frederick Chiluba of Zambia, upon becoming its president in 1991, declared Zambia as a Christian nation. This declaration was formalized by inscribing it in the Zambian constitution which was enacted in 1996. Freedom of worship is permitted in Zambia with no persecution of other smaller faiths.
Successive presidents have continued to uphold and embrace this declaration (whether to appease the masses or out of genuine convictions). Christianity is practiced (or at least identified) by over 90% of Zambians.

======================

I stayed at a hostel named after one of my favourite British comedies, Fawlty Towers. I was drawn by the name, but stayed based on the amazing reviews and location. Who’s at their hostel at 3pm though? ;0 Well me my first day there, so I can review the pancakes.
Thanks!

These are unedited clips from our recent trip to Zambia.
Riki Ashwell is the other white guy with the "Doin wat Jesus did" tee shirt on. We are both from New Zealand and Riki is married to a Zambian woman.
The big Zambian guy with the tee shirt is Godfrey Lupindula from Kanyama in Lusaka, Zambia who pastors the Rock Foundation Church in Kanyama. He hosted us at his church for 2 weeks and we had a week in Kasama.
The Zambian people are very easy to pray for as they have such simple faith. I was impressed with them. They are a beautiful people. Stats say Zambia is 95% Christian. This is a very Christian nation, but there is still so much need there. It has one of the lowest survival rates in the world.
God used us to help them see they can also do wat Jesus did, simply because they believe in Jesus, like it says in John 14:12.
We got some of them activated in ministering healing on the street and in their churches. I wish I had caught more of these times on video.
