The Running of the Bulls (in Spanish encierro, from the verb encerrar, to fence in, to lock/shut up, to pen) is a practice that involves running in front of a small group (typically a dozen) of bulls that have been let loose, on a course of a sectioned-off subset of a town's streets. The most famous running of the bulls is that of the seven-day festival of Sanfermines in honour of San Fermín in Pamplona, although they are held in towns and villages across Spain, Portugal, in some cities in Mexico, in San Jose Festival held in Trujillo, Peru, Mesquite, Nevada, southern France during the summer.

This is the moment a bull trampled and tossed a festival-goer in the air at the annual running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
An American and two Spaniards have been gored by bulls during the sixth day of the annual San Fermin festival in northern Spain.
Panic broke out on the narrow medieval streets of the city when one of the animals charged at a man, trampling him and then tossing him into the air with one of his horns.
Bystanders tried to guide the animal away by pulling on its tail and eventually dragged the victim to safety by his feet, local reports said the man was a 31-year-old from Morella, in eastern Spain.
Another American and two Spaniards were also taken to city hospitals for other injuries suffered in falls and trampling during the frenzied event.
A Navarra Hospital's spokesperson said doctors removed the American's spleen after it was found that the bull's horn had gone through the abdominal cavity and punctured the blood filtering organ.
None of the six people taken to hospital was said to be in serious condition.
The black bull that caused the most panic on Friday made several more attempts to charge people before he was eventually guided along through the town to join the rest of the pack in the bull ring.

Pamplona Travel - Senses are heightened in Pamplona (Basque: Iruña), capital of the fiercely independent Kingdom of Navarra, alert constantly to the fearful sound of thundering bulls clattering like tanks down cobbled streets and causing mayhem and bloodshed all the way. Of course, visit outside the eight days in July when the legendary festival of Sanfermines takes over the minds and souls of a million people and the closest you’ll come to a bloodthirsty bull is in a photograph. For those who do dare venture here outside fiesta time, despite the overriding feeling that you’re the only one who missed the party, you will find Pamplona a fascinating place. And for those of you who come during fiesta week? Welcome to one of the biggest and most famous festivals in the world – if you hadn’t drunk so much, it would have been a week you would remember forever!

©www.MagicalSpain.com The Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain
The fiestas of San Fermin are celebrated in northern Spain in the Navarra region in the historic town of Pamplona year from the 6th to the 14th of July. They have become internationally known because of the running of the bulls.
The Encierro ( The Running of the Bulls) is the keystone event at the heart of the San Fermines festival. The purpose of the running with the bulls each morning is to get the bulls from outside the city inside the bullring.
This passionate festival is held to pay hommage to San Fermin, a martyr under the Roman rule and patron saint of Navarra. It is evident for many in attendence that the religious aspect seems to have a lesser role over the last number of years. Expect to see a large very animated gathering of Spaniards and diverse people from all the corners of the world.
For private luxury Spain adventures that can include a some of the Running of the Bulls + many other aspects of Spain like great food, wines, castles, luxury hotels, cooking classes and more we can help. contact hhtp://www.magicalspain.com
