He played in a lot of trios, with pianists whose styles were vastly different from each other — Bill Evans, Paul Bley, Masabumi Kikuchi, Marc Copland, Marilyn Crispell — and in the late ’70s became a member of Keith Jarrett’s Standards Trio with drummer Jack DeJohnette ...
