The Messina Strait, the famous Greek theatre of Taormina, the archeological sites of Segesta and Selinunte, the marvellous Catania, the unique monastery and temple of Monreale, the picturesque Cefalu and Ragusa are all worth taking a look on the largest island of the Mediterranean Sea. The romantic Sicily, an island very rich in monuments and natural beauties, enchants every visitor. Let us take a walk on the streets of the capital, Palermo, let us refresh ourselves on the beach of Mondello, take a slide in the famous Citta del Mare, and go to the ever-foggy Erice using the cableway. We can enjoy the sicilian blood-oranges, drink a capuccino among the walls of Syracuse, and finally, take a walk to the still active Etna volcano.

In June the European Union (EU) responded to the huge numbers of migrants and refugees dying on its borders by launching an 11.8 million euro ($12.8m) a year naval mission. EUNAVFOR Med was launched to tackle human trafficking from North Africa, a major contributor to the migration crisis that has claimed 2,000 lives in the Mediterranean in 2015 alone.
But while the EU has declared war on traffickers in Libya and elsewhere, another trade is booming on its doorstep. Land smuggling preys on desperate people hoping to escape the EU’s Dublin Regulation — whereby migrants seeking refuge are required to do so in the first country that they set foot in — and illegally cross European borders.
VICE News travels to Sicily, a main stepping stone into Europe, to follow a police operation to arrest suspected smugglers at a boat landing, and meets a former member of a people trafficking network operating between Libya, Egypt, and Italy. We also find out about the land smuggling business of taking people from Sicily to northern Europe, and meet a small group of activists helping newly-arrived migrants and refugees avoid being exploited.

Invasion of Sicily: Full WWII Battle of Sicily Documentary.
Take an INTENSE look at the Invasion of Sicily, otherwise known as Operation Husky. It was a major World War II campaign, in which the Allies took Sicily from the Axis Powers (Italy and Nazi Germany). It was a large scale amphibious and airborne operation, followed by six weeks of land combat. It launched the Italian Campaign.
Husky began on the night of 9–10 July 1943, and ended on 17 August. Strategically, Husky achieved the goals set out for it by Allied planners; the Allies drove Axis air, land and naval forces from the island and the Mediterranean's sea lanes were opened. As a result of the invasion, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini was toppled from power in Italy. It opened the way for the Allied invasion of Italy. The Rappack takes to defending Sicily from the advancing Allied forces. Some of Germany's best fighters take to the defensive line and hold with their best efforts. How about that Panzer IV H?! Really good stuff! The episode ends a bit early as it crashes just after recording. In reality, the Germans abandoned the Italians without telling them later that night to defend elsewhere and then to the mainland. Enjoyed this? Travel video about destination Sicily in Italy.
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and is the most diverse region in Italy,a land of gods and natural forces and a place of ancient cultures. Throughout the history of Sicily there have been many battles, rulers, cultures and religions. Prior to Roman rule both the Greeks and the Carthagians fought against each other. Later came the Arabs and the Normans. Catania is Sicily’s second largest city and has been strongly influenced by earthquakes and also the volcanic activity of Mount Etna. Therefore only a few historical remnants have survived. However, after each disaster the city was rebuilt and the result is a Baroque city dominated by fascinating sights full of character and charm. A devastating earthquake in 1693 destroyed the original town of Noto and left it in ruins. Construction of the new town took almost a hundred years until at end of the eighteenth century most of its buildings had been rebuilt. In addition to the geometrical design of its streets the remarkable architectural harmony of the town has been created by much use of ochre-coloured sandstone. The privately-owned train, the Ferrovia Circumetnea, travels around Mount Etna from Catania to Riposto. A couple of kilometres outside Catania there are vast fertile fields. In the background is the mighty and over three thousand metre high Mount Etna, one of the most active and famous volcanoes in the world. Taormina is situated on a rock high above the Ionic Sea. The Teatro Greco was built out of the stone of Monte Tauro in the third century A.D. and five hundred years later it was enlarged by the Romans for gladiatorial battle. The old town ended at Porta Messina whose medieval palaces and villas have been preserved right up until the present day. A few kilometres from Palermo and set within a beautiful bay is Mondello sheltered by the slopes of Monte Pellegrino that contains a grotto, an altar and a pilgrims church, the Santuario Di Santa Rosalia. Here this fascinating journey comes to an end. Sicily is exquisite, an ancient island of both discovery and pleasure.

It is believed that Greek settlers from Chalkidi founded it and some centuries later, it was conquered by the Romans and later, the Arabs brought the city a new wave of prosperity.Noto is a charming town with around 20,000 inhabitants. It is one of the most beautiful enclosed Baroque towns in Sicily. However, many of Noto’s historic buildings have been neglected for many years and are in somewhat less than perfect condition. The Cathedrale Di San Nicolo also fell into disrepair as a result of continued neglect and this caused both its dome and part of its roof to collapse in 1996.A proud and mighty volcano rises above eastern Sicily. Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe, is the undisputed ruler of this fascinating Mediterranean island. The snow on the summit region of Etna obscures the fact that deep within the volcano is an unimaginable natural furnace with a temperature of around 1,000 degrees Celsius.Marsala was given its name by the Arabs who called it ‘Marsal-Allah’, ‘God’s Harbor’. The monumental city gate is a reminder of the landing of Giuseppe Garibaldis on the 8th of March, 1860.In the mountain area close to Palermo, another wonderful city featured on our journey, is the picturesque town of Monreale, a townscape that for more than 800 years, has been dominated by a single building. Monreale Cathedral was built due to a struggle for power between the Bishop of Palermo and the Norman King, William.Sicily is exquisite. An ancient island of both discovery and pleasure.

Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Taormina, the most picturesque city in Sicily because its houses were built
in a small area but with the 250-meter difference between the levels.
Visit Taormina in Sicily
Taormina is the most picturesque city in Sicily because its houses were built in a small area but with the 250-meter difference between the levels. Because it's been continually inhabited since it was set up, ancient Greek and Roman buildings medieval palaces, churches and modern hotels stand next to each other.
[Foreign Language] Castello de Taormina was built on the 400-meter Peak of Tauro Mountain. From here, we can see the whole city; the sea, the nearby Isola Bella Island and the cone of Etna. Its minister, dating back to the 13th century was irrelatively simple building but it's bare and palaces, Palazzo Courvaja and Palazzo Ducal de San Stefano are rather ornate. Even today, Sicily is judged mainly based on books and films. For example, based on Mario Pozo's novels the Sicilian or the trilogy, Godfather.
Sicily is thought to be world of the mafia and blood feud, the Vendetta. There's no doubt about the existence of the mafia but it sure that tourist won't be able to notice their actions. Public security isn't worst than anywhere else in Italy, thanks to the police.
If we're privileged to see a wedding in such an Old Italian town, it's inevitable to remember the film Matrimonio all'Italiana; of course it was different when Sofia Loren and Mastroianni walking along the narrow cobalt streets of Taormina, we can feel the taste of Italy the most. Small antique shops, the small work of local craftsmen, the Mediterranean style mixed with antique elements of the houses, the color and smell of the flowers are impressive.
The best known site of the town, the former Greek Taorminian is the Greek theater. The staggered seats of the huge semi-circle arc were carved into the rocks, so that behind the stage the most beautiful sites of nature will be the scenery. The famous Hungarian painter Czontvary was also impressed by the site. His masterpiece was contributed to increasing the fame of Taormina.
We have to work to get to know the town, up steps, down steps. Fortunately, we can reach the Greek theater by cable cars as well. The acoustics of the theater are also excellent. Every summer, concerts and performances take place here.
From Taormina, we can go for nice trips to the thermal baths of Ali Terme. The elegant beaches of Forza d'Agro or Mazaro and some romantic ruins of castles can also be found in the mountains nearby.

Palermo street food – Sicilian Food documentary [Palermo travel guide]
That was on our mind from the moment we stepped off the bus in Palermo. Rated as the 5th best city in the world for street food, we knew we were in our element. However one of us wasn’t completely “on board” with some of Palermo’s more traditional delicacies – organ meat doesn’t make much of an appearance at our dinner table back home. While Calli nervously hummed and hawed, I booked us a walking tour of Palermo’s street food scene with StrEAT Palermo Tours to understand another, tastier side of the city.
"You are a person like travelling, let's Subscribe this channel to learn about the beautiful places in the world. And if you intend to travel in somecountry or someplace and want to get more information of places, please comment in this video, we'll upload as soon as possible. Thank you ^^

Travel Guide Sicily http://bit.ly/124XYM9
Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Erice in Sicily, a historic town which had an important role in the antiquity.
Visit Erice in Sicily
Trapani, a town founded by the Punic, used to be the harbor of Eryx. The location of which is nice and is called Erice today. It had an important role in the antiquity. The pharaohs of the town built on top of the mountain at 750 meters, was an important point of orientation for shipment sailing around Sicily.
We can often watch the mountain tops attracting the clouds as if they use them as a blanket. In artichoke, we can watch this close-up. There's often fog and rain, and clouds covering the sky above the town. What can we do while it's raining? Let's sit in the famous confectionary, eat a cake with almonds and marzipan or a lemon pie. Sicilian cakes, especially the ones with almonds are well-known and delicious. We can drink a cup of good cappuccino, maybe the strongest and tastiest anywhere. Or let's read the "Sweet Life in Italy" by Frances Mayes who was in love with Italy. By the time we finish the chapter about Erice, it has stopped raining and the sun is shining again.
The Citadel Castelo Normano may have been built on the former site of the sanctuary partly from its stones. Actually, there are two medieval fortresses here; Castelo Populi and Castello Venera. Today, it's impossible to day where one of them ends and the other begins. In clear weather, there's a good view of the fortress and the parking lot in the distance. We can see the [Foreign Language] Grande and the [Foreign Language] Mountains towards the inside of the island on the coast to Sciacca and in the sea to the nearby Egadi Islands and Pantelleria further away.
Today, Erice is a frequent destination for excursions, reachable by car or cable car from Trapani. The town surrounded by walls is not very big; but, its alleys are so zigzagged that it's easy to get lost.
Erice considers Garibaldi to be its own hero visible by the memorial tablet placed on the wall of the town hall. Let's read how the hero of the war of independence is described by Fred Mustard Stewart in his novel. "All in all he had a pleasant face with his famous grizzled-red beard. Thousands of women dreamt about him all over the world reading the story of his famous love with Anita de Silva which was loved at first sight and she had fought in South America and Italy in his side before she died tragically soon".
The neighborhood is famous for its salt furnaces. Boat men and tuna fishermen, if it isn't fishing season take us gladly from the harbor of Trapani to the Egadi Islands. In one of Levanzo's caves, we can even see ancient drawings on the rocks. In his book, they found Adesea, Aaron the Bradford thought he had found Goat Island about which Romeros was writing on Favignana Island, one of these groups of islands. Archaeologist excavated a Venus sanctuary as well which was built in the 6th century B.C in honor of the Goddess of Fertility.

With around three hundred and twenty thousand inhabitants Catania is the second largest city in Sicily. Its historical significance is clearly visible throughout the city’s magnificent old district that is dominated by Baroque architecture. The city has few monuments that pre date the Baroque Period but it was not wars or battles that were responsible for this but a volcano that towers high above the island and that is located thirty kilometres from Catania: Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano has destroyed this city more than once. On the Ionic Sea in the south east of Sicily is Syracusa that in ancient times was a legendary city state. Greek settlers from Corinth founded the city in 734 B.C. and it soon enjoyed much fame and prosperity. South of Agrigento is the ancient sanctuary of the Valle Dei Templi, the legendary Valley Of Temples. An enchanting area that is more of a plateau than a valley is a truly unique and magical place. Selinunte is one of the largest archaeological sites in Europe. The Selinunte Acropolis, formerly known as Megara Hyblae, was an important building complex and was built in the seventh century B.C. In the immediate surroundings of the Acropolis a small urban centre developed that in later years had a population that numbered tens of thousands.Beneath Monreale Mountain and located on the coast, is Palermo, the capital of Sicily. The city dates back to the eighth century B.C. However, nothing remains of the time when the Phoenicians founded the ancient town of Panormus, Palermo’s predecessor. The former summer residence of the Emir Of Palermo served as the palace of Norman king, Roger The Second. Up until the thirteenth century this luxurious Norman palace was a symbol of the wealth and power of the Normans. With its many fascinating ancient monuments, the remains of the CARTHAGINIANS, GREEKS and ROMANS, and with the glorious heritage of the Middle Ages and the charming influences of both the ARABS and the NORMANS, SICILY is justifiably known as, ‘A Treasure Trove Of History’.

Insomma, l'unica tua preoccupazione è...contattarmi...!
OGNI EVENTO è POTENZIALMENTE UNICO...BASTA SOLO VOLERLO!

They discuss with Michael the details of his father's agreement to allow Michael to usher the bandit Salvatore "Turi" Guiliano out of Sicily and to America. Michael is told of a "testament", a set of documents Guiliano has composed that would be damning to certain political officials of the Italian government if released. Michael is taken to Guiliano's house where he meets Turi's parents and Gaspare "Aspanu" Pisciotta, Guiliano's second in command. Michael is informed that Turi's pregnant fiancée is heading to America first, ahead of Guiliano, and only when she sends word back that she is safe, will Turi leave for America. Michael is also told he is to be entrusted with Guiliano's testament. Maria Lombardo Guiliano gives Michael a negro statue of the Virgin Mary as a gift as he parts.

Mafia Documentary - The Real Truth About the Rise of Sicilian Mafia
The Mafia (also known as Cosa Nostra, in English "Our Thing") is a criminal syndicate in Sicily, Italy. It is a loose association of criminal groups that share a common organizational structure and code of conduct, and whose common enterprise is protection racketeering. Each group, known as a "family", "clan", or "cosca", claims sovereignty over a territory, usually a town or village or a neighbourhood (borgata) of a larger city, in which it operates its rackets. Its members call themselves "men of honour", although the public often refers to them as "mafiosi".
According to the classic definition, the Mafia is a criminal organization originating in Sicily. However, the term "mafia" has become a generic term for any organized criminal network with similar structure, methods, and interests.
The Mafia proper frequently parallels, collaborates with or clashes with, networks originating in other parts of southern Italy, such as the Camorra (from Campania), the 'Ndrangheta (from Calabria), the Stidda (southern Sicily) and the Sacra Corona Unita (from Apulia). Giovanni Falcone, the anti-Mafia judge murdered by the Mafia in 1992, however, objected to the conflation of the term "Mafia" with organized crime in general.
While there was a time when people were reluctant to pronounce the word "Mafia" ... nowadays people have gone so far in the opposite direction that it has become an overused term ... I am no longer willing to accept the habit of speaking of the Mafia in descriptive and all-inclusive terms that make it possible to stack up phenomena that are indeed related to the field of organized crime but that have little or nothing in common with the Mafia.
—Giovanni Falcone, 1990
The American Mafia arose from offshoots of the Mafia that emerged in the United States during the late nineteenth century, following waves of emigration from Italy. There were similar offshoots in Canada among Italian Canadians. The same has been claimed of organised crime among Italians in Australia.
The Mafia's power comes from its reputation to commit violence, particularly murder, against virtually anyone. Through reputation, mafiosi deter their enemies and enemies of their clients. It allows mafiosi to protect a client without being physically present (e.g. as bodyguards or watchmen), which in turn allows them to protect many clients at once.
Compared to other occupations, reputation is especially valuable for a mafioso, as his primary product is protection through intimidation. The reputation of a mafioso is dichotomous: he is either a good protector or a bad one; there is no mediocrity. This is because a mafioso can only either succeed at an act of violence or fail utterly. There is no spectrum of quality when it comes to violent protection. Consequently, a series of failures can completely ruin a mafioso's reputation, and with it his business.
The more fearsome a mafioso's reputation is, the more he can win disputes without having recourse to violence. It can even happen that a mafioso who loses his means to commit violence (e.g. his soldiers are all in prison) can still use his reputation to intimidate and provide protection if everyone is unaware of his weakness and still believes in his power. However, in the tough world of the Mafia, such bluffs generally do not last long, as his rivals will soon sense his weakness and challenge him.
When a Mafia boss retires from leadership (or is killed), his clan's reputation as effective protectors and enforcers often goes with him. If his replacement has a weaker reputation, clients may lose confidence in the clan and defect to its neighbours, causing a shift in the balance of power and possible conflict. Ideally, the successor to the boss will have built a strong reputation of his own as he worked his way up the ranks, giving the clan a reputable new leader. In this way, established Mafia clans have a powerful edge over newcomers who start from scratch; joining a clan as a soldier offers an aspiring mafioso a chance to build up his own reputation under the guidance and protection of senior mafiosi.
