Norman Dalton Cash (November 10, 1934 – October 11, 1986) was an American first baseman in Major League Baseball who spent almost his entire career with the Detroit Tigers. An outstanding power hitter, his 377 career home runs were the fourth most by an American League left-handed hitter when he retired, behind Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Lou Gehrig; his 373 home runs with the Tigers rank second in franchise history behind his teammate Al Kaline (399). He also led the AL in assists three times and fielding percentage twice; he ranked among the all-time leaders in assists (4th, 1317) and double plays (10th, 1347) upon his retirement, and was fifth in AL history in games at first base (1943). He was known to fans and teammates during his playing days as "Stormin' Norman."
Cash was born in Justiceburg, Garza County, Texas, and attended (what was then) Sul Ross State Teachers College, where he was All-Lone Star Conference in football as well as playing baseball; he was drafted by the Chicago Bears as a running back in 1955, but declined to play pro football. After signing with the Chicago White Sox in 1955, he spent 1957 in the military and made his debut with the team in 1958, seeing limited play as an outfielder and pinch hitter. He appeared in 58 games for the 1959 pennant-winners, but the midseason acquisition of Ted Kluszewski left him on the bench, and he was hitless in four pinch-hitting appearances in the World Series. In December of that year he was traded to the Cleveland Indians in an eight-player deal that brought Minnie Miñoso back to Chicago, but the Indians general manager Frank Lane traded Cash to Detroit for Steve Demeter, who would play only four more games; both Chicago and Cleveland were haunted by Cash for the next 15 years, as he won a batting title and a World Series ring in a Detroit uniform.

The Detroit Tigers are an American professional baseball team based in Detroit, Michigan. The Tigers compete in the Central division of the American League (AL) in Major League Baseball (MLB). One of the AL's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Detroit in 1894 as part of the Western League. They are the oldest continuous one-name, one-city franchise in the AL. The Tigers have won four World Series championships (1935, 1945, 1968, and 1984), 11 AL pennants (1907, 1908, 1909, 1934, 1935, 1940, 1945, 1968, 1984, 2006, and 2012), and four AL Central division championships (2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014). The Tigers also won division titles in 1972, 1984 and 1987 while members of the AL East. The team currently plays its home games at Comerica Park in Downtown Detroit.
The Tigers constructed Bennett Park at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Trumbull Avenue in Corktown (just west of Downtown Detroit) and began playing there in 1896. In 1912, the team moved into Navin Field, which was built on the same location. It was expanded in 1938 and renamed Briggs Stadium. It was renamed Tiger Stadium in 1961 and the Tigers played there until moving to Comerica Park in 2000.
Cash refers to money in the physical form of currency, such as banknotes and coins.
In bookkeeping and finance, cash refers to current assets comprising currency or currency equivalents that can be accessed immediately or near-immediately (as in the case of money market accounts). Cash is seen either as a reserve for payments, in case of a structural or incidental negative cash flow or as a way to avoid a downturn on financial markets.
The word is variously attributed. Some claim that the word "cash" comes from the modern French word caisse, which means (money) box, from the Provençal word caissa, from the Italian cassa, from the Latin capsa all meaning box. In the 18th century, the word passed to refer to the money instead of the actual box containing it. Another claim is that it was derived from Tamil word kāsu (Tamil: காசு) meaning a coin, by East India Company.
"Cash" used as a verb means "to convert to cash"; for example in the expression "to cash a cheque".
In Western Europe, after the Collapse of the Western Roman Empire, coins, silver jewelry and hacksilver (silver objects hacked into pieces) were for centuries the only form of money, until Venetian merchants started using silver bars for large transactions in the early Middle Ages. In a separate development, Venetian merchants started using paper bills, instructing their banker to make payments. Similar marked silver bars were in use in lands where the Venetian merchants had established representative offices. The Byzantine empire and several states in the Balkan area and Kievan Rus also used marked silver bars for large payments. As the world economy developed and silver supplies increased, in particular after the colonization of South America, coins became larger and a standard coin for international payment developed from the 15th century: the Spanish and Spanish colonial coin of 8 reales. Its counterpart in gold was the Venetian ducat.

http://www.courtsidetweets.com Nolan Ryan of the California Angels was on the verge of pitching his second career no-hitter versus the Detroit Tigers when Norm Cash came to the plate with the leg of a table instead of a baseball bat to hit against the Ryan Express! Umpire Ron Luciano, a character himself, made Cash throw the table leg back to the dugout and use a real wooden baseball bat! Ryan struck out Cash for the no-hitter, but this is such a funny thing to happen in such a historic game! If it were to happen today, I'm sure people would be appalled instead of having a laugh about it! Ryan had more no-hitters in 1973 than the New York Mets have in their history!

Vignettes from the June 25, 1961 Detroit tigers v. Cleveland Indians game at Municipal Stadium in cleveland won by tigers 6-3. Winning pitcher was Jim Bunning, Terry fox the save. Highlights were 2 two run home runs by norm Cash and a melee when Jim Bunning hit Jimmy Piersall.
This is all the video I have of this game.....anyone have the last out? This was a taut, tense game (and series), in which the eventual winning run reached on an infield hit where Norm Cash was ruled off the base at first. Heroic bullpen work by Vida Blue sealed the win. Vida pitched the final 4 innings for the save and to preserve the win for Blue Moon Odom, for whom the occasion proved (almost) too much (he took himself out after 5 because he was hyperventilating). After the game, Vida joked that Odom had "choked" and the two came to blows in the locker room. Typically for those A's, that dissension and the loss of Reggie Jackson for the World Series (@ 1:10) did not prevent the A's from beating Cincinnati and bringing the first pro championship title to the the Bay Area.

Mr Jaitley was discussing the impact of the sudden ban on Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes - which formed 86 percent of the cash in circulation - to crack down on tax evasion and black or untaxed money. Demonetisation, he said, is the "new normal confronting black money which was the norm in India for seven decades". On the cash crunch that has led to people waiting for hours at banks and ATMs, the Finance Minister said: "When we are covering such a large population, there will be queues."
