Shawenjeagamik is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of our Aboriginal Homeless Community. It is a place where everyone will be treated with respect and dignity. Their protocol is guided by the Seven Gifts of the Grandfather Teachings: Honesty, Humility, Trust, Love, Bravery, Caring, and Courage.
Here in Ottawa, it offers unique culturally appropriate services that provide not just a physical space for people to go, but a space that embraces the diversity of needs and responds with care and compassion.
I attended a rally that was held here in Ottawa to bring attention to the need for the Centre, and I heard from many of the people that frequent Shawenjeagamik. They clearly articulated how important that space is for them. To find services that meet their physical needs, and also their emotional and spiritual needs.
The persons that have spoken out, whether it be in the news, online or at the rallies in support of the centre, have rightly drawn the connections between the history of colonialism here in Canada and the deep need for a cultural appropriate space.

Cihuapilli Rose Amador has "Backwordz Medicine", Phillip MeShekey and Dijon "Natural Man" as her guests this show.
The two young "Artivists" use an art form called "Tribal Voice" to protest and get their message across. Tribal Voice is a combination of spoken word and tribal songs started by an older uncle back in 1983.
They consider themselves outcasts, not members of any movement but a part of all movements.
You have to listen to what these young warriors have to say.
I REALLY LIKE THESE GUYS!
We are now able to show you entire shows on YouTube, as they were televised.
THANK YOU YouTube!
Some things I can edit down to shorter versions, but with some, the entire show is worth watching.
I hope this isn't to much.
Thanks!

Lana Schocko ( Odawa, Oneida, Menominee & Stockbridge-Munsee) spoke with me about the relationship of voting and Native American health care on and off the reservation.
Music: Skyhawk's Song from Songs of Resolution on Native American Flutes. gopromusic.com/detail.php?siteid=2186. Skyhawk Faulkner did the underscore for first reading of my screenplay "In the Land Where Acorns Dance" at the Talent Harvest Festival 2000 in Oregon. I have been an avid admirer of her flute playing ever since.
Stomp Dance from Brule the Collection. gopromusic.com/detail.php?siteid=2186
Interview and dance shot at Menominee Powwow early August 2014. The young fancy dancer (I'm guessing he's 13) won the competition in his category. He was brilliant. This interview would not have been possible without the help of Lana's sister Desiree, and Colleen Dodge and her family. Chi Miigwech.
