Black Circus & Vollgaaas Entertainment @ Ruhr in Love 2014.

Founded as a Roman city, in the Middle Ages Barcelona became the capital of the County of Barcelona. After merging with the Kingdom of Aragon, Barcelona continued to be an important city in the Crown of Aragon. Besieged several times during its history, Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage and is today an important cultural centre and a major tourist destination. Particularly renowned are the architectural works of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean is located in Barcelona. The city is known for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics as well as world-class conferences and expositions and also many international sport tournaments.
Barcelona is one of the world's leading tourist, economic, trade fair and cultural centres, and its influence in commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities.[8][9] It is a major cultural and economic centre in southwestern Europe, 24th in the world (before Zürich, after Frankfurt)[10] and a financial centre. In 2008 it was the fourth most economically powerful city by GDP in the European Union and 35th in the world with GDP amounting to €177 billion.[11] In 2012 Barcelona had a GDP of $170 billion; it is leading Spain on both employment and GDP per capita change.[12] In 2009 the city was ranked Europe's third and one of the world's most successful as a city brand.[13] In the same year the city was ranked Europe's fourth best city for business and fastest improving European city, with growth improved by 17% per year,[14] but it has since been in a full recession with declines in both employment and GDP per capita, with some recent signs of the beginning of an economic recovery.[15] Since 2011 Barcelona is a leading smart city in Europe.[16] Barcelona is a transport hub with the Port of Barcelona being one of Europe's principal seaports and busiest European passenger port,[17] an international airport, Barcelona–El Prat Airport, which handles above 35 million passengers per year,[18] an extensive motorway network and a high-speed rail line with a link to France and the rest of Europe.

RWE dolphinarium in Duisburg Zoo: The RWE dolphinarium in Duisburg Zoo experience families with children an exciting show. The children observe the fascinating feats of dolphins and also learn about the lifestyle and natural environment of delightful mammals. [from Baby Age]
In RWE dolphinarium in Duisburg Zoo watching families and children dolphins in a natural water landscape with about 3 million liters of sea water.
The RWE dolphinarium Duisburg Zoo is equipped with about 1,000 seats. While parents and children fascinated watching the feats of dolphins, told the moderator of life of dolphins and their habitat. Banned watching children get the dolphins rings from the 5.60 m deep pool, shoot balls into the audience, raise a child in a boat on the water and show off breathtaking jumping exercises.
The dolphins are also known as bottlenose dolphins, a dolphin, which is found in all oceans. Again and again reward the coach the Dolphins with herring for their performances.
In RWE dolphinarium Duisburg Zoo, the animals always have the option to withdraw in a separate area behind the scenes. For the young dolphins this rest area is essential. The duration of the demonstrations is about half an hour. Families with children have the opportunity to visit the dolphinarium between screenings free of charge.
The Duisburg Zoo, founded on May 12, 1934, is one of the largest zoological gardens in Germany. It is especially well known for its dolphinarium and, since 1994, for breeding koalas.
Far less well known are the breeding successes in other areas, for example, with fossas (civits from Madagascar) and Red River hogs.
The zoo is located in the northern part of the Duisburg urban forest on the border with Mülheim on the Ruhr. Federal highway A 3 divides the zoo into western and an eastern parts, which are joined by a leafy country bridge. The highway is scarcely noticeable to the visitors.
Dolphinarium
The Dolphinarium is inhabited by nine bottle-nosed dolphins Ivo, Pepina, Delphi, Daisy, Dolly, Donna, Diego, Darwin and Dörte, which live in a pool containing about 3 million liters of seawater. It is not cleaned chemically, but with special equipment using air. It is the largest dolphinarium in Germany. Depending on the season, two or three performances take place every day in the large arena. During the week, the dolphinarium is free-of-charge for visitors between performances (but not on Sundays or bank holidays). It regularly offers special treats, such as "An Evening with the Dolphins" or "Zookeeper for a Day" and weddings or children's birthday parties can be celebrated there. Dolphins have been born and bred in Duisburg several times: Duphi (1988; since died), Delphi (1992), Daisy (1996), Duke (2001; since died) and Dolly (2007, the daughter of Delphi). However, on several occasions the offspring did not reach maturity. In September 2007, Donna, the daughter of Pepina, was born, and she has been on show to visitors since 27 February 2008.

Great Continental Railway Journeys is a British television documentary series. It follows Michael Portillo around continental Europe, using his George Bradshaw's 1913 Continental Railway Guide.[1] The first series was originally broadcast on BBC Two in November 2012.
Production of a second series included filming in Spain and Gibraltar in May and June 2013, following the Ronda–Algeciras railway line, built in the 1890s by British interests under the Algeciras (Gibraltar) Railway Company Ltd. for the benefit of British officers stationed in Gibraltar wanting to travel to Spain and the rest of Europe.[2] To avoid offending Spanish sensitivities, the line was built concluding in Algeciras, a town in Spain on the opposite side of the Bay of Gibraltar, rather than at the Gibraltar border. Despite it having no direct connection to the European railway network, George Bradshaw devoted a chapter to Gibraltar in his 1913 guide.[3]

1 "London to Monte Carlo" 8 November 2012
Leaving behind London, armed with his 1913 railway guide, Michael Portillo follows the most popular route of the Edwardian traveller through France. His first stop is Paris, where he absorbs the atmosphere of the Belle Époque, before travelling south to the Cote D'Azur, where he samples the Edwardian high life and learns why the area became a magnet for the rich and artistic. He ends his journey arriving at the gaming tables in Monte Carlo.
2 "Hungary to Austria" 15 November 2012
Portillo explores the once-great empire of Austria-Hungary, domain of the famous Habsburg monarchs. Starting in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, he travels via Bratislava in Slovakia to the city of Vienna, where he immerses himself in pre-war decadence. From there, he travels to Salzburg, before heading to the Salzkammergut region to visit Lehár Villa, the emperor's Austrian summer house at Bad Ischl, where, in 1914, European history changed course forever.
3 "Berlin to the Rhine" 22 November 2012
Portillo begins this journey in Berlin, the capital of Germany, which, at the beginning of the 20th century, was a powerhouse of science and technology. He then heads west via the Harz Mountains to the industrial Ruhr Valley, before travelling south along the tourist trail of the castle-studded river Rhine, and ends his journey in the Rheingau to taste the wines of its age-old vineyards.
4 "Switzerland" 29 November 2012
In this episode, Portillo explores Switzerland, whose remarkable railway network helped make it a favourite with Edwardian tourists. He begins in the city of Basel and travels east to visit industrial Zurich. He then heads for the Alps and learns how astonishing feats of engineering conquered the most challenging peaks, before taking in Lake Lucerne. His journey ends with a spectacular ascent by train to Europe's highest railway station, 3,454 metres above sea level, at the top of Jungfraujoch.
5 "Amsterdam to Northern France" 6 December 2012
Portillo explores the cities of the pre-war Low Countries, before tasting the delicacies of Brussels. He then travels to the French sector of the Western Front, where, from 1914, the trains carried a new cargo of artillery shells, with the Edwardian tourists of 1913 replaced by soldiers facing the horrors of the trenches. His journey ends in the forest of Compiegne, where he learns how, after four years of conflict, the Armistice was signed in a railway carriage.

Dolphinarium
============

Rio Negro
=============
The Rio Negro was opened in 2005, and is situated in the Tropical House. In a large pool lives the Amazon dolphin Baby. The pool is constructed to look almost natural, and is separated from the viewing area by a curved, meter-high glass plate. The house is decked out naturally with wooden flooring, much foliage, and uncaged animals. Previously, another dolphin Apure also lived here; at the time of his death in 2006, he was the oldest known Amazon dolphin in the world, being at least 42 years old. The pool is not intended to be exclusively used for the surviving Amazon dolphin - the plans are that it will be used in the future by manatees, also.
Koala House
In the Koala House, glass-fronted area houses these small Australian animals. The koalas are only separated from the visitors by this glass plate. Additionally, general information on koalas and Australia, as well as the story of how the koalas came to be in the zoo, is available. A long-term exhibition of pictures by nature photographer Ingo Öland is also on view, showing the landscape of Australia and its animals in 22 large-format pictures.
Fossa Enclosure
=================
The Fossa Enclosure is laid out to imitate the natural habitat of the fossa, with much foliage and several small pools. The breeding program is the largest worldwide, and since 1994, the zoo has coordinated the European preservation program for this species. The enclosure was financed and donated by the Association of Duisburg Zoo Friends (Verein der Duisburger Zoofreunde) in 2000.
Equatorium
=============
The Equatorium is the largest section of Duisburg Zoo. It derives its name for housing animals usually found in the rainforests of the equatorial regions, and primarily houses primates. A few years ago, the installation was redesigned and renovated piece-by-piece. In 2002, the Gorilla-Bush, was opened, a large open enclosure for lowland gorillas and De Brazza's monkeys. In the autumn of 2005, the new East entrance opened, behind which one can view the mountain loris in a 'walk-through' enclosure. Visitors can feed these animals daily. Next to the loris enclosure, colobus monkeys also inhabit a natural-looking enclosure donated by Thyssen. Other animals in this section include orangutans, macaques, gibbons, sloths, and pygmy hippos.
Outdoor Tortoise Enclosure
======================
In 2006, the Outdoor Tortoise Enclosure was laid out. It is meant to imitate the animals' natural habitat, with many stony burrows for the tortoises to retreat into and foliage in the enclosure for the tortoises to consume. Within the enclosure, there is also a small stream and 'warming shelters': Plexiglass containers into which the tortoises can go to warm themselves up. Previously, the tortoises were housed in the same building as the aquarium, where they had a large enclosure strewn with sand and into which warmimg lamps were placed.
Ruhrpott-Schnauzen
===================
Everyday life at the Duisburg Zoo can be followed daily on ZDF. This TV channel has broadcast the documentary series Ruhrpott-Schnauzen since June 2006.
