The Balochistan conflict is an ongoing conflict between Baloch nationalists and the governments of Pakistan and Iran in the Balochistan region of South-West Asia, which includes Balochistan Province in southwestern Pakistan, Sistan and Baluchestan Province in southeastern Iran, and the Balochistan region of southern Afghanistan.
Balochi demands include greater autonomy, increased royalties from natural resources and provincial revenue, and in some cases full independence. There have been many claims of human rights abuses.
Recently, militants have clashed with the Islamic Republic of Iran over its respective Baloch region, which borders Pakistan. The belligerent groups operate in the Pakistani and Iranian parts of the region, and in southern Afghanistan. In the 2010s, attacks against the Shia community by sectarian groups—though not always directly related to the political struggle—have been on the rise, contributing to tensions in Balochistan.

Balochi demands include greater autonomy, increased royalties from natural resources and provincial revenue, and in some cases full independence. There have been many claims of human rights abuses. Since the 2010s, attacks against the Shia community by sectarian groups - though not always directly related to the political struggle - have been on the rise, contributing to tensions in Balochistan.
Shortly after Pakistan's creation in 1947, the Pakistan Army began operations to subdue Kalat-based insurgents who had rejected the King of Kalat's decision to accede to Pakistan. A subsequent Baloch separatist movement gained momentum in the 1960s, following the introduction of a new constitution which limited provincial autonomy and enacted the 'One Unit' concept of political organization in Pakistan. Tension continued to grow amid consistent political disorder and instability at the federal level. The unrest continued into the 1970s, cumulating with a government-ordered military operation in the region in 1973. Assisted by Iran, Pakistani forces inflicted heavy casualties on the separatists. The insurgency fell into decline after a return to the four-province structure and the abolishment of the Sardari system. In the 2000s, however, the insurgency gained strength in conjunction with the deteriorating law and order situation in neighboring afghanistan and instability at the Federal level.
Although it has vast natural resources, Balochistan is one of Pakistan’s poorest regions.Baloch separatists allege that the central government of Pakistan is systematically suppressing development in Balochistan in order to keep the Balochs weak, whilst their opponents argue that international business interests have been unwilling to invest in the region due to the continuing unrest.
The Balochistan Liberation Army, identified as a terrorist organization by Pakistan, Britain, and other governments, is the most widely-known Baloch separatist group. Since 2000 it has conducted numerous deadly attacks on Pakistani troops, police, and civilians. Other violent separatist groups include Lashkar-e-Balochistan and the Baloch Liberation United Front (BLUF)

A Baloch girl has exposed Pakistan's duplicity and narrated the atrocities of the Pakistani authorities in Balochistan. In an exclusive interview to OneIndia News, chairperson of BSO Aazad, Kareema Baloch has revealed that Pakistan blows up Baloch kids with missiles in the name of militancy. Pakistan often talks about raising Kashmir issue with India but it never talks about its own wrong doing in the Balochistan region where innocent people are being slaughtered by Pakistani Army.

Notwithstanding India's objection, Pakistan held legislative assembly elections in the strategic Gilgit-Baltistan region amid tight security. It is the second time Pakistan is holding polls to elect a regional legislature after devolution of powers in 2009 which changed the region's name from Northern Areas to Gilgit-Baltistan and provided it with a local assembly. According to the election commission of Pakistan (ECP), about 6,18,364 registered voters were expected to exercise their franchise to elect six members of the assembly from Skardu district, four from Diamer, three each from Gilgit, Hunza Nagar, Ghizer and Ganche and two from Astor.
Reacting strongly to the upcoming elections in Gilgit and Baltistan on June 8, India said it is an attempt by Pakistan to "camouflage its forcible and illegal occupation" of the regions which are integral part of the country. Official spokesperson in the external affairs ministry Vikas Swarup also expressed concern at the "continued efforts" by Pakistan to deny the people of the region their political rights and to absorb these territories. South western province of Balochistan is facing a low-level insurgency by Baloch nationalists who want greater control over mineral resources. The law and order situation has been compounded by the presence of Taliban militants who attack the forces and civilians.

Pakistan has intensified army operation in Balochistan to eliminate the Baloch people, especially to earn the faith of China after signing the economic corridor. Pakistan has an intention to exploit the resources in Balochistan without providing any progress in the region. It Pakistan go for a referendum, the reality will be clear as people have fed up with the exploitation. They are creating an atmosphere of terror by carrying out attacks on their houses, abducting and killing the Baloch people. They have killed my brother elder son and cousin brother to create fear and let them to run away from the freedom movement. But, these are the sacrifices which will help in the freedom of Balochistan. For centuries, Baloch have ruled this region and we are trying the regain that statute. We have started a campaign in Europe to tell people about the atrocities being committed by Pakistan. There is no education, especially for girls. They throw acid on school girl to keep them away from education.

Quetta/ Geneva, Sep 08: The largest and resource-rich province of Pakistan, Balochistan, celebrate August 11 as its `Independence Day’ and blames Pakistan for its illegal occupation since 1948. Facing poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and inequity, the people in Balochistan feel a deep sense of insecurity and disgruntlement against the Pakistan regime. Human rights violations have reached `epidemic proportions’ in the region. On August 11, 2014, Baloch nationalist leaders issued a written declaration demanding Balochistan’s independence. The declaration forwarded to the concerned authorities says that Pakistani armed forces have launched a campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide in Balochistan, and are systematically kidnapping, imprisoning and murdering Baloch political activists, students, lawyers, intellectuals and nationalist leaders.

The Balochistan conflict is an ongoing conflict between Baloch nationalists and the government of Pakistan.
Baloch demands used to include greater autonomy, increased royalties from natural resources and provincial revenue, but lately the fight has been for full independence from Pakistan's occupation.
Shortly after Pakistan's independence in 1947, the Pakistan Army began operations to subdue Kalat-based insurgents who fought an invading Pakistan Army.
The unrest continued into the 1970s, culminating in a government-ordered military operation in the region in 1973.
Assisted by Iran, Pakistani forces inflicted heavy casualties on the separatists. The insurgency fell into decline after a return to the four-province structure and the abolishment of the Sardari system.
The Balochistan Liberation Army, identified as a terrorist organization by Pakistan, Britain, and other governments, is the most widely-known Baloch separatist group. Since 2000 it has conducted numerous deadly attacks on Pakistani troops, police, and civilians. Other violent separatist groups include Lashkar-e-Balochistan and the Baloch Liberation United Front (BLUF).[

The Balochistan Liberation Army (also Baloch Liberation Army, or BLA) based in Balochistan, a mountainous region of western Pakistan. The Baloch Liberation Army became publicly known during the summer of 2000, after it claimed credit for a series of bombing attacks on Pakistani authorities.
The group is currently headed by Hyrbyair Marri and has an estimated strength of 500 militants.
Balochistan Liberation Army was declared a terrorist organisation in Pakistan in April 2006, after a series of attacks conducted by the group targeting security personnel. On 17 July 2006, the government of the United Kingdom listed the BLA as a "proscribed group" based on the Terrorism Act 2000. The group's actions have been described as terrorism by the United States Department of State; BLA has also been declared as a terrorist organization by US & EU. There are allegations on Indian government's funding BLA for hostilities in Pakistan.

In 2006, Suroosh Alvi was one of a handful of journalists who was able to get into the massive guns market in Pakistan's tribal areas -- home base for the Taliban since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. He returned to Pakistan this month and found the entire country was a "powder keg ready to explode."
