attractions.
Originally a silent home movie, I have now included various authentic sound effects giving the piece a new dimension, with some additional music that compliments it nicely.
The film has also been colour graded to reduce some of the washed-out look and some
sequences have been rearranged in order of location.

Cine film of a day out at Rhyl I inherited from my Grandfather several years ago. It was converted from silent Cine to VHS and finally digitally by me.
I originally uploaded the video with "copyrighted music", so this is a re-edit with that music taken out and a small voice-over by myself in place of it. It's not as good, but it helps to keep the video as available to as many as possible. Feel free to turn the sound down if my voice annoys you - I wont be offended.
I loved Rhyl as a child, the entire North Wales coats was a frequent holiday destination. I've loved the responses on the video previously with others feeling the same as I do about the decline. We still visit Rhyl, it's a great seaside, beach day visit - but it just hasn't got the magic it did when we used to visit. It's all concrete now rather than wonder.
It's such a shame the decline has set in.
Some errors in narration and things to clear up:
- I said England. I'm really, really, REALLY sorry. I meant UK or Britain. I've loved more of the Welsh coast than anywhere in England and it annoys me I got it wrong.
- Early on, I say that the wooden floor on the Scrambler means it's late, I mean early. Later models tend to have steel floors.
- The Water Chute has gone to Dreamland, or rather the boats and mechanisms have. The track and structure was destroyed when Ocean Beach was taken away, but a few items where saved due to donations from enthusiasts. The Dreamland Trust hope to get the chute re-opened in Margate in 2013 or 2014, but it all depends on politics and legal issues - we wish them luck.
For those with fond memories, I join you in your wishes that it could have been kept as such a great Welsh attraction. It's always a shame to see such childhood magic fade away.

Rhyl (/rɪl/; Welsh: Y Rhyl, pronounced [ə ˈr̥ɨl]) is a seaside resort town and community in Denbighshire, situated on the north east coast of Wales, at the mouth of the River Clwyd (Welsh: Afon Clwyd). To the west is the suburb of Kinmel Bay, with the resort of Towyn further west, Prestatyn to the east and Rhuddlan to the south. At the 2011 Census, Rhyl had a population of 25,149. The conurbation of Abergele-Rhyl-Prestatyn has a population of over 60,000.
Historically part of Flintshire, Rhyl has long been a popular tourist destination for people from all over Britain.
Once an elegant Victorian resort, there was an influx of people from Liverpool and Manchester after the Second World War changing the face of the town. The area had declined dramatically by 1990, but has since improved due to a series of regeneration projects bringing in major investment. European funding, secured by the Welsh Government, has produced millions for the development of Rhyl's seafront.

The Great Orme, for example, has the Llandudno Tramway, Happy Valley, golfing, ancient bronze-age mines, cable cars, a restaurant, a pub, and a cafe. And that's just the Orme!

A new study extends global average surface temperature records back to 2 million years ago, further back in time than any previous climate research. The research suggests that global warming from human emissions of greenhouse gases will cause far more warming, up to 9 degrees Celsius, or 16.2 degrees Fahrenheit, during the next several millennia than previously expected ...
