Last week, YouTube food reviewer The Endorsement got tipped off to the imminent launch of Pan Pizza at Pizza John’s in his area. On Tuesday, Eric sat down with a new three-topping Papa John’s Pan Pizza ( Pepperoni, Sausage and Mushroom). What follows is Eric’s review: Pan Cheese: Pan baked for a thick, crunchy crust, topped with hearty tomato sauce and 100% real cheese made from mozzarella. "They are testing it in five U.S. markets," said Nomura analyst Mark Kalinowski, who follows the pizza industry. "I feel this will go national one day. They sell the hand tossed pizza. They sell the thin crust. The obvious pizza product missing is a pan pizza." Papa John's new pan pizza is available "at select stores" in Louisville and across the Lexington market. Ordering can be tricky, since the online ordering system at papajohn's.com directs you to the closest store in your zip code. "Our new Pan Pizza is baked to a thick golden crust for a delicious crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside experience," Papa John's senior director of public relations, Peter Collins, said in an email. Like other Papa John's pies, the dough is "fresh, never frozen," he added, with a sauce made from California "fresh-packed" tomatoes. In 2005, Papa John's launched a pan pizza, hailing it as the "first new crust offered by the pizza brand in nearly 10 years," according to Pizza Marketplace. The worst winds and rain are expected during the next several hours. Yesterday, WRMI posted the following notice: To WRMI listeners: As of 1600 UTC Wednesday, October 5, Hurricane Matthew appears to have a path which will take the center of the Category 4 storm very near Okeechobee. We will have extremely strong winds and rain during the next few days, and there is the possibility of the loss of electrical power and/or Internet service. We will keep all of WRMI’s transmissions on the air as long as we have electrical power and it is safe to operate. But if you find that we are off the air sometime within the next 48-72 hours, it will be due to the hurricane, and we will attempt to resume regular operations as soon as possible after the hurricane passes and power is restored to our transmitter site. Thank you for your understanding. I expect WRMI/Okeechobee will have to cope with hurricane force winds tonight. The west wall of the hurricane eye is currently travelling up the eastern Florida coast and is sure to tax the WRMI antenna farm.
