the Chinese Civil Wa was a civil war in China fought between Kuomintang led government of the Republic of China, and forces loyal to the Communist Party of China . The war began in August 1927 and essentially ended when major active battles ceased in 1950. The conflict eventually resulted in two de facto states, the Republic of China in Taiwan and the People's Republic of China in mainland China, both claiming to be the legitimate government of China.
in this scenario communist Chinese forces launch multiple attacks on the nationalist positions and due to superior numbers and tactics they are able to capture the enemy positions.

Taiwan after WW2 | US Army & Republic of China Army Prepare for War with China | Documentary
About the History of the Republic of China:
The History of the Republic of China begins after the Qing dynasty in 1912, when the formation of the Republic of China as a constitutional republic put an end of 4,000 years of Imperial rule.
In 1928, the Republic was nominally unified under the Kuomintang - Chinese Nationalist Party - after the Northern Expedition, and was in the early stages of industrialization and modernization when it was caught in the conflicts among the Kuomintang government, the Communist Party of China, (founded 1921), which was converted into a nationalist party, local warlords and the Empire of Japan. Most nation-building efforts were stopped during the full-scale Second Sino-Japanese War (aka the War of Resistance) against Japan from 1937 to 1945, and later the widening gap between the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist Party made a coalition government impossible, causing the resumption of the Chinese Civil War, in 1946, shortly after the Japanese surrender to the Americans and the Western Allies in September 1945.
A series of political, economic and military missteps led to the Kuomintang's defeat and its retreat to Taiwan (formerly Formosa) in 1949, where it established an authoritarian one-party state continuing under Generalissimo / President Chiang Kai-shek, that considered itself to be the continuing sole legitimate ruler of all of China, referring to the Communist government or "regime" as illegitimate, a so-called "Peoples' Republic of China" declared in Beijing (Peking) by Mao Tse Tung in 1949, as "mainland China", "Communist China", or "Red China". Although supported for many years, even decades by many nations especially with the support of the United States who established a 1954 Mutual Defense treaty, as the decades passed, since political liberalization began in the late 1960s, the Peoples' Republic of China was able after a constant yearly campaign in the United Nations to finally get approval in 1971, to take the seat for "China" in the General Assembly, and more importantly, be seated as one of the five permanent members of the Security Council. After recovering from this shock of rejection by the world community, after the liberalization at home in the late 1970s from the Nationalist authoritarian government and following the death of Chiang Kai-shek, the Republic of China has transformed itself into a multiparty, representative democracy on Taiwan and even given more representation to those native Taiwanese, whose ancestors predate the 1949 mainland evacuation.
Taiwan–United States military relations:
In 1949, the Republic of China Armed Forces and the Kuomintang suffered a major defeat in the Chinese Civil War, forcing the Government of the Republic of China to relocate to Taiwan. This allowed the Communist Party of China to declare the establishment of a new Chinese state: the People's Republic of China. As the Kuomintang was establishing a "provisional" base in Taiwan, the party began to plan and threaten counterattacks on the mainland, hoping to retake the Chinese mainland.
With the fall of the mainland, the United States largely wrote off the Kuomintang and Chiang Kai-Shek as incompetent, corrupt leaders who deservedly lost and was prepared to grant diplomatic recognition to the People's Republic of China. All of this changed rapidly when the People's Republic of China intervened in the Korean War, which ruined any chance of normalizing relations with Washington for years. The victorious Battle of Guningtou by the Republic of China forces against the communist forces helped to boost morale in the Republic of China Army and diminished any chance by the communist forces to take Taiwan. Subsequently, the United States Seventh Fleet started to patrol the Taiwan Straits. By the 1950s, Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty was signed and US provided Military Assistance and Support to the Republic of China forces. The US Army maintained a garrison force in Taiwan until its withdrawal in 1979. The Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty was replaced by Taiwan Relations Act after 1979.

[1946~1949] 국공내전 (Chinese Civil War)

Taiwan Chinese: officially the Republic of China (ROC; Chinese: 中華民國; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó), is a sovereign state in East Asia. The Republic of China, originally based in mainland China, now governs the island of Taiwan, which constitutes more than 99% of its territory, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and other minor islands, following its loss of the mainland China territory in 1949 in the Chinese Civil War.
This remaining area is also constitutionally called the "Free Area of the Republic of China" which is free from Communist rule.
Neighboring states include the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the west (mainland China), Japan to the east and northeast, and the Philippines to the south. Taiwan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with a population density of 648 people per km2 in July 2015.
Taipei is the seat of the central government, and together with the surrounding cities of New Taipei and Keelung forms the largest metropolitan area on the island.

Written records of the history of China can be found from as early as 1500 BC under the Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BC). Ancient historical texts such as the Records of the Grand Historian (ca. 100 BC) and the Bamboo Annals describe a Xia dynasty (c. 2070–1600 BC), which had no system of writing on a durable medium, before the Shang. The Yellow River is said to be the cradle of Chinese civilization, although cultures originated at various regional centers along both the Yellow River and the Yangtze River valleys millennia ago in the Neolithic era. With thousands of years of continuous history, China is one of the world's oldest civilizations.
Much of Chinese culture, literature and philosophy further developed during the Zhou dynasty (1046–256 BC). The Zhou dynasty began to bow to external and internal pressures in the 8th century BC, and the kingdom eventually broke apart into smaller states, beginning in the Spring and Autumn period and reaching full expression in the Warring States period. This is one of multiple periods of failed statehood in Chinese history, the most recent being the Chinese Civil War that started in 1927.
Between eras of multiple kingdoms and warlordism, Chinese dynasties have ruled parts or all of China; in some eras control stretched as far as Xinjiang and Tibet, as at present. In 221 BC Qin Shi Huang united the various warring kingdoms and created for himself the title of "emperor" (huangdi) of the Qin dynasty, marking the beginning of imperial China. Successive dynasties developed bureaucratic systems that enabled the emperor to control vast territories directly. China's last dynasty was the Qing (1644–1912), which was replaced by the Republic of China in 1912, and in the mainland by the People's Republic of China in 1949.
The conventional view of Chinese history is that of alternating periods of political unity and disunity, with China occasionally being dominated by steppe peoples, most of whom were in turn assimilated into the Han Chinese population. Cultural and political influences from other parts of Asia and the Western world, carried by successive waves of immigration, expansion, foreign contact, and cultural assimilation are part of the modern culture of China.

Modern history: The Chinese Civil War[b] (simplified Chinese: 国共内战; traditional Chinese: 國共內戰; pinyin: Guó-Gòng Nèizhàn) was a civil war in China fought between forces loyal to the Kuomintang (KMT)-led government of the Republic of China, and forces loyal to the Communist Party of China (CPC).[8] The war began in August 1927, with Chiang Kai-Shek's Northern Expedition, and essentially ended when major active battles ceased in 1950.[9] The conflict eventually resulted in two de facto states, the Republic of China (ROC) in Taiwan and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in mainland China, both officially claiming to be the legitimate government of China.
The war represented an ideological split between the Communist CPC and the KMT's brand of Nationalism. It continued intermittently until late 1937, when the two parties came together to form the Second United Front to counter a Japanese invasion and prevent the country from adding to an earlier invasion into Manchuria in 1931. China's full-scale civil war resumed in 1946, a year after the end of hostilities with Japan. Four years later came the cessation of major military hostilities, with the newly founded People's Republic of China controlling mainland China (including Hainan) and the Republic of China's jurisdiction being restricted to Taiwan, Penghu, Quemoy, Matsu and several outlying islands.
Historian Odd Arne Westad says the Communists won the Civil War because they made fewer military mistakes than Chiang Kai-shek and also because in his search for a powerful centralized government, Chiang antagonized too many interest groups in China. Furthermore, his party was weakened in the war against the Japanese. Meanwhile, the Communists targeted different groups, such as peasants, and brought them to its corner.[10] Chiang wrote in his diary in June 1948 that the KMT had failed not because of external enemies but because of rot from within.[11] Strong initial support from the US diminished with the failure of the Marshall Mission, and then stopped completely mainly because of KMT corruption [12] (such as the notorious Yangtze Development Corporation [13] controlled by H.H. Kung and T.V. Soong's family) [14] and KMT's military setback in Northeast China. Communist land reform policy, which promised poor peasants farmland from their landlords, ensured PLA popular support. After the surrender of Japan at the end of World War II, Soviet forces turned over their captured Japanese weapons to the CPC and allowed it to take control of territory in Manchuria; many believe the Soviet Union was allowed to do so by the US and the United Kingdom because of their desire to influence the outcome of the Chinese Civil War (especially in the decisive battles in Northeast China) at the expense of the Republic of China government by the result of the Yalta Conference until the start of the Cold War across the Taiwan Strait (see United Nations General Assembly Resolution 505). In the Chinese Civil War after 1945, the economy in the ROC areas collapsed because of hyperinflation and the failure of price controls by the ROC government and financial reforms; the Gold Yuan devaluated sharply in late 1948 [15] and resulted in the ROC government losing the support of the cities' middle classes; in the meantime, the Communists continued their relentless land reform (land redistribution) programs to win the support of the population in the countryside.
To this day no armistice or peace treaty has ever been signed, and there is debate about whether the Civil War has legally ended.[16] Cross-Strait relations have been hindered by military threats and political and economic pressure, particularly over Taiwan's political status, with both governments officially adhering to a "One-China policy." The PRC still actively claims Taiwan as part of its territory and continues to threaten the ROC with a military invasion if the ROC officially declares independence by changing its name to and gaining international recognition as the Republic of Taiwan. The ROC mutually claims mainland China, and they both continue the fight over diplomatic recognition. Today the war as such occurs on the political and economic fronts in the form of cross-Strait relations; however, the two separate de facto states have close economic ties.[17]

The leaders of China and Taiwan will meet on Saturday for the first time since the two governments split in 1949 at the end of the Chinese civil war, in a clear sign of Beijing’s concerns about upcoming Taiwanese elections.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou in Singapore, according to Taiwan’s presidential spokesman and China’s official Xinhua News Agency.
The meeting would be a milestone in relations between China and Taiwan, where nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek fled with his troops after their defeat by Mao Zedong’s Communist forces. Beijing sees Taiwan as a rebel province to be reunited with the mainland, by force if necessary.
President Ma has engineered a rapprochement with the mainland in recent years, but relations remain fraught following decades of suspicion. Problems that needed to be worked out even include how the two will address each other, with Chinese official media saying they will call each other “mister.”
President Ma’s spokesman, Charles Chen, said the two presidents’ meeting in Singapore was intended to secure peace across the Taiwan Strait. He said they would “exchange views on cross-strait issues” but wouldn’t sign any agreement or issue a joint statement.

In the first such meeting of leaders from the two rivals since the Chinese civil war ended in 1949, Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold talks with his Taiwanese counterpart Ma Ying-jeou in Singapore on Saturday. With elections for a new president and legislature being held on Jan. 16 amid rising anti-China sentiment, the historic meeting comes at a sensitive time in Taiwan. Anti Chinese sentiment is particularly among younger Taiwanese who don't believe Taiwan benefits from closer economic ties with its giant neighbor. Ma's office said in a statement that the purpose of his trip was to "consolidate cross-strait peace and maintain the status quo".

The Top 10 Largest Wars in History
Number 10: Russian Civil War (1917-1922)
The Russian Civil War was a brutal war fought between the communists (Red Army) and the opposition (White Army). 5,000,000-9,000,000 million people died. The communists won this war and then went on to form the Soviet Union.
Number 9: Conquests of Tamerlane (1370-1405)
Tamerlane was a ruler in what is now the Middle of Asia. He was a barbaric warrior and was known for throwing his enemies into wet plaster and building towers, making buildings out of his victims skulls, and many more horrific atrocities. It is estimated that 5,000,000-7,000,000 million people died during his conquests for more land and power.
Number 8: Chinese Civil War (1927-1949)
7,500,000 million deaths and communist rule were the end result of fighting between the communists and nationalists. It was a long battle that had brief ‘pauses’ as the 2 forces came together to battle foreign enemies, but then would pick up fighting again immediately after.
Number 7: An Lushan Rebellion (755-763)
The rebellion started when a northern ruler declared himself the emperor of the Yan Dynasty. The Tang Dynasty was already in control and quite powerful, but this rebellion caused an extreme loss of life and large scale destruction that the Tang Dynasty never recovered from. There are estimates that over 13,000,000+ died, with some historians believing that is a very conservative number.
Number 6: World War I (1914-1918)
The Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in June 1914, becoming the catalyst that began World War I. 17,000,000 died and the Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Russian, and German empires collapsed.
Number 5: Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864)
A civil war in the South of China started when a man claimed to be the brother of Jesus and started an uprising against the Manchu Qing Dynasty. Over 20,000,000 people---mostly peasants were killed.
Number 4: Qing Dynasty (1616-1662)
The Qing Dynasty overtook the Ming Dynasty resulting in 25,000,000 million deaths. 800,000 deaths came during the Yangzhou massacre. The entire population of Yangzhou was ordered to be executed by Prince Dodo (Qing Dynasty) due to their support of the resistance and to show the rest of the country what they were capable of.
Number 3: Three Kingdoms War (CE 220-280)
There were 36,000,000-40,000,000 deaths and the end of the Han Dynasty. The Three Kingdoms involved in the war were the Chinese states of Wei, Shu, Wu (Dong). There were some devastating battles between warlords and purges of entire towns. The Three Kingdoms didn’t last very long, within a few years the 3 became 16 as more kingdoms tried to claim themselves the supreme dynasty.
Number 2: Mongol Conquests (13th Century+)
The beginning of the 13th century saw the Mongol Empire expand and in doing so created terror and instability throughout Europe. By the mid-13th century their empire was vast, stretching from Asia all the way into Eastern Europe. The mongols left 40,000,000-70,000,000 million people dead in their path of destruction.
Number 1:
60,000,000-85,000,000 casualties and the only war to date that has utilized nuclear weapons (Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan). During World War II the world’s nations divided into the Allies and the Axis. The Holocaust, Adolf Hitler’s grand idea, was genocide resulting in the deaths of 6 million Jews and 5 million non-Jews. It is the deadliest and largest war in the history of mankind.
Time for the question of the day:
These numbers are astronomical. Close to 290 million people died in these wars combined, over 90% of the current population of the US. With all the advances in technology, and war being fought more strategically as opposed to masses of people coming face to face, do you think there will ever be a war to match any of these top 10? If so, how will it happen? Biological weapons, WMDs? Let us know what you think. Go ahead and leave a comment below.

Spanish Civil War And China / Japan war in 1938.
General Franco and his troops attacking a city, possibly Barcelona. Japanese troops attacking Hangkow.
General Franco stands with a group of senior officers. They wear soft, beret like hats with a metal emblem on the front. He listens as the man to his right explains something, then he raises his hands as he begins to speak.
A canon is rolled across a bridge which connects to a town nestled below a hill. Franco's insurgent army ride past on horseback. The soldiers have rifles and what looks like sleeping bags/tents and a lot of other gear strapped to the side of their horses. A long shot of smoke rising from a recently bombed part of a city, possibly Barcelona. A shot of a bombed building, completely wrecked and reduced to rubble. The wood used in its construction is burning. Soldiers run down a street strewn with bodies and rubble. Possibly Franco's men. The soldiers at the front of the charge fall to the ground, to prepare to shoot. Soldiers run with rifles at the ready. They have bayonets attached to the end of the rifles. The soldiers run down a rubble strewn street.
A cannon is fired as the men manning it step back as it fires. Smoke rises as the shot hits an already smouldering city. A man pulls a piece of rope attached to the cannon and it fires again. The cannon is roughly 20 feet long. The city smoulders as plumes of white smoke rise.
Three fighter aircraft fly past. Smoke billows from a Chinese port city, Hangchow (?) as it has recently been hit by bombs. The city is divided by a bridge. Helmeted Japanese soldiers storm up a rise, rifles at the ready, bayonets on. They run into a burning village and past a stone and thatch house. A Japanese soldier carries another away from the action on his back. Around them is a city in ruins. Rubble lies all over the streets as soldiers run for cover. A large wooden barrel is knocked over by the leg of soldier being carried. The other soldiers wear backpacks and have spades attached to the back of those. Two soldiers run through rubble and a large wooden door. The one in front has a rifle at the ready, while the man behind him has a handgun. They run past a burning building. Japanese soldiers huddle against wood and brick buildings on either side of a rubble and straw filled road. Further down the road something explodes. A biplane flies overhead. An old Japanese flag (Red circle in centre with radiating red rays off the circle) flies as troops run over a grassy mound. An explosion goes off in the distance. A Japanese bomber drops bombs. A huge explosion in buildings of a city as they find their mark. Aerial shot of hundreds of people running down the street in A Chinese city, trying to get away from the bombs. A woman carries a baby as she walks quickly away from a devastated wood and thatch village in the background. Chinese soldiers walk past. One is holding up a large wooden beam. A man carries an injured woman on his back while he also carries a short wooden pole with two woven baskets attached.

LEAD IN :
The Chinese communist party and nationalist Kuomintang (KMT) party fought two civil wars for control of the Chinese mainland between 1927-1936 and 1946-1949.
Those civil wars were interrupted, when both parties joined forces to fight Japanese invaders during World War 2.
The truce and cooperation lasted for 8 years, from 1937 to 1945.
The KMT lost the second civil war with the communists and many sought refuge on the island of Taiwan which still remains separate from the mainland.
However over fifty years later some of the surviving veterans of those wars are hoping to be recognised as war veterans by the Chinese government and receive some economic aid in their final years.
STORYLINE:
Hu Zi Kun is an eighty-two year old veteran of the two civil wars between the Chinese Nationalists (KMT) and the communists and also the war with the Japanese when the opposing Chinese forces fought side by side.
Hu fought for the losing side, the KMT.
Over half a century later he still regularly visits the graves of his old comrades in the town of Guo shang, in Teng chong county, in China's southern Yunnan province.
Sixty years ago he and his friends fought against the Japanese here in Yunnan province.
More than 6000 soldiers dead during the battle, two thirds of Hu's regiment were killed.
After the second civil war in 1945-1949, the KMT were defeated and the Communist party took power in China.

STORYLINE:
Taiwanese airline representatives held talks in Beijing on Friday seeking agreement on proposed charter flights to bring home Taiwanese living in China over the Lunar New Year holiday.
The delegation, led by Taiwanese legislator John Chang, met officials of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) during a morning session.
Talks were also scheduled for later in the day with the government's Taiwan Affairs Office.
Taiwan has said it would consider allowing the charter flights, but only if they were routed through Hong Kong as required by Taiwan's 53-year ban on direct transport links with China.
Taiwan and China split amid civil war in 1949 and Beijing considers Taiwan a part of China to be recovered by force if need be.
China demands direct flights, but has said they would have to be labeled domestic routes, something Taiwan has rejected out of concern that would dilute its claim to sovereignty.
China refuses to recognise Taiwan's government or negotiate with Taiwanese officials, requiring the island to rely on private groups or elected legislators for talks.
Despite the lack of official political contacts, Taiwanese have invested tens of billions of dollars in China and tens of thousands now reside in Shanghai, Beijing and other Chinese cities.
The Lunar New Year falls on February 1 next year.
It is the main annual holiday in Chinese societies during which families traditionally gather to share banquets and honour ancestors.
