This is a list of supporting characters from the First Comics series Grimjack. It covers characters from both the John Gaunt and James Twilley eras.

Gaunt-era characters

Blacjacmac

Blacjacmac was Gaunt's oldest friend. He was the son of Mac Cabre, one of the Dancer's chief lieutenants. Gaunt and Mac met in the Arena, a gladatorial-style combat venue. Mac initially fought with an insane style, earning the nickname "Wild Thing," because he had no regard for his own life or anyone else's. Gaunt, recognizing a kindred spirit, approached Mac and helped him turn his anger outward to survive.

Upon leaving the Arena, Mac established a private mercenary army. He was romantically involved with Goddess, a "black god" from an alternate dimension who hated Gaunt for leading Mac to put his life in danger.

When GrimJack reincarnated as Twilley, he sought out the descendants of Blacjacmac. Mac had incorporated back in Gaunt's time and by Twilley's time it was almost impossible to function without being a member of a corporation. Mac had formally "adopted" Gaunt, which extended to Twilley. Twilley discovered that Mac himself "reincarnated" after a fashion by being born to Goddess each time he died.

BOB (band)

BOB were an indie pop band from North London, England, formed in 1985.

History

The initial line-up was Richard Blackborow (vocals, keyboards, guitar), Simon Armstrong (guitar, vocals). Jem Morris (bass guitar), joined the duo in 1986, and, augmented with a drum machine, they recorded the band's first release, a flexi disc, released in 1986 on their own House Of Teeth label, and containing three short songs: "Prune (Your Tree)", "Groove" and "Brian Wilson's Bed". The band gave a copy to John Peel in a fortuitous encounter in the Rough Trade record shop, and he played it many times. The drum machine was replaced by Gary Connors (drums) in 1987, and this line-up recorded 1987's What a Performance EP and the first of three BOB John Peel sessions. Blackborow stated in 1988 that the band had a diverse set of songs in their repertoire at that stage and that the songs on the EP were selected from "by doing a quick poll of our friends".

Early in 1988, Gary Connors was replaced by former Jamie Wednesday drummer Dean Legget, and the band recorded their second single, the Kirsty EP, a session for BBC Radio One's Simon Mayo, and their second John Peel session. Both singles received heavy play by John Peel. The two singles were compiled together with the earlier flexi disc as Swag Sack, which was their final recording for the Sombrero label. All later releases were on their own House Of Teeth label.

Nancy is an American sitcom that aired on NBC during the 1970-1971 television season, with Renne Jarrett in the title role.

Synopsis

While Nancy Smith, daughter of the President of the United States, is vacationing in fictitious Center City, Iowa, she meets and marries veterinarian Adam Hudson (John Fink).

Celeste Holm appeared as Abby Townsend, the press secretary of the First Lady, Nancy's official chaperone. Robert F. Simon appeared as Everett McPherson, Dr. Hudson's uncle. William Bassett starred as Agent Turner of the United States Secret Service; Ernesto Macias was Agent Rodriguez; Frank Aletter played Tom Daily; and Eddie Applegate played local reporter Willie Maxwell. Nobody was cast as the President.

Production notes

A Screen Gems Production, Nancy was a creation of producer Sidney Sheldon, who wrote every episode under various pseudonyms ["Mark Rowane", "Christopher Golato", "Allan Devon"].

Broadcast history

It aired from September 17, 1970, to January 7, 1971, on Thursday in the 9:30 Eastern timeslot between Ironside and The Dean Martin Show. The competition was another sitcom, The Odd Couple, on ABC, and the second half-hour of the CBS Thursday Night Movies.

Nancy (with the Laughing Face)

"Nancy (with the Laughing Face)" is a song composed in 1942 by Jimmy Van Heusen, with lyrics by Phil Silvers. It is commonly believed that the song was written for the birthday of Nancy Sinatra. This was a misunderstanding that eventually led to the song being recorded by Frank Sinatra.

Origin of the Song

Former broadcast executive and music historian Rick Busciglio tells the story of the song's inception as related to him by Van Heusen:

"In 1979, I was working with songwriter Jimmy Van Heusen on a TV special with Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope that was never produced. Jimmy told me that one day (circa 1942) he and his lyricist Johnny Burke were working at 20th Century-Fox composing for a film. While Burke was out of their writer's bungalow, Phil Silvers, the comedian, a friend to both, entered and suggested to Jimmy that they write a song for Johnny's wife, Bessie, who was soon to celebrate a birthday. Silvers provided the lyrics, later revised by Van Heusen and Burke.
