Barolo is one the top Italian wines. Made in Northern Italy, it was once a favorite among European nobility.

Barolo is one the top Italian wines.
It has been produced in a small area (Barolo) in Piedmont, Northern Italy since the beginning of the 19th century.
In fact it was a French woman, Marquess Juliette Falletti who moved to Piedmont and started to produce a dry red wine in the fashion of the French Bordeaux. The King of the Piedmont area, Charles Albert, liked the wine a lot and soon after it spread among European nobility.
[Abbona Dr. Ernesto , President, Cellars Marchesi di Barolo]:
"These are the oldest oak (barrels) we have in the cellar. These are the last five barrels of the great heritage of these wineries at the time of the Marquess Juliette Falletti. And this oak (barrel), after more than 150 years, still shows its vitality. Its a link between the past and present, and is a positive contribution to the refinement of Barolo wine."
Barolo wine is produced from Nebbiolo grape in a small region with unique soil and climate conditions.
[Abbona Dr. Ernesto , President, Cellars Marchesi di Barolo]:
"The central area of the vineyard in Barolo is a land characterized by compact soils of clay and limestone, which is an ideal condition for wine (growing). This leads to a fragrant and harmonious (wine) already in the early years of consumption."
The wine is very versatile and can be combined with different foods and flavors.

"Barolo is a wine that will allow you to appreciate the flavors of foods that have distinct, and opposing (flavors), which makes it possible with a minimal presence in the mouth to separate the perception of taste of each food letting us enjoy to its quality."
A bottle of Barolo wine normally costs between $15 and $500. Some are so priceless they are only given away as gifts.

Barolo is a red Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) wine produced in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape and is often described as one of Italy's greatest wines. The zone of production extends into the communes of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba and parts of the communes of Cherasco, Diano d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Novello, Roddi, Verduno, all in the province of Cuneo, south-west of Alba. Only vineyards planted in primarily calcareous-clay soils in the hills with suitable slopes and orientations are considered suitable for Barolo production. Barolo is often described as having the aromas of tar and roses, and the wines are noted for their ability to age and usually take on a rust red tinge as they mature. When subjected to aging of at least five years before release, the wine can be labeled a Riserva.
In the past Barolos often used to be very rich on tannin. It could take more than 10 years for the wine to soften up and become ready for drinking. Fermenting wine sat on the grape skins for at least three weeks extracting huge amounts of tannins and was then aged in large, wooden casks for years. In order to appeal to more modern international tastes, which preferred fruitier, earlier drinking wine styles, several producers began to cut fermentation times to a maximum of ten days and age the wine in new French barriques (small oak barrels). "Traditionalists" have argued that the wines produced in this way are not recognizable as Barolo and taste more of new oak than of wine. The controversies between traditionalists and modernists have been called the "Barolo wars".

Barolo is one the top Italian wines.
It has been produced in a small area (Barolo) in Piedmont, Northern Italy since the beginning of the 19th century.
In fact it was a French woman, Marquess Juliette Falletti who moved to Piedmont and started to produce a dry red wine in the fashion of the French Bordeaux. The King of the Piedmont area, Charles Albert, liked the wine a lot and soon after it spread among European nobility.
[Abbona Dr. Ernesto , President, Cellars Marchesi di Barolo]:
"These are the oldest oak (barrels) we have in the cellar. These are the last five barrels of the great heritage of these wineries at the time of the Marquess Juliette Falletti. And this oak (barrel), after more than 150 years, still shows its vitality. Its a link between the past and present, and is a positive contribution to the refinement of Barolo wine."
Barolo wine is produced from Nebbiolo grape in a small region with unique soil and climate conditions.
[Abbona Dr. Ernesto , President, Cellars Marchesi di Barolo]:
"The central area of the vineyard in Barolo is a land characterized by compact soils of clay and limestone, which is an ideal condition for wine (growing). This leads to a fragrant and harmonious (wine) already in the early years of consumption."
The wine is very versatile and can be combined with different foods and flavors.

"Barolo is a wine that will allow you to appreciate the flavors of foods that have distinct, and opposing (flavors), which makes it possible with a minimal presence in the mouth to separate the perception of taste of each food letting us enjoy to its quality."
A bottle of Barolo wine normally costs between $15 and $500. Some are so priceless they are only given away as gifts.
