THE GOOD: Here's Aussie actress Melina Vidler (from 800 Words) giving us full princess in gown from Sydney designer George Elsissa. It's bordering on Disney Princess impersonator, and yet I absolutely love it. The colour is beautiful, the cut is stunning and she just looks magical. (Also, I imagine there'd be some complaints at the kids' parties if Elsa rocked such bountiful cleavage mid balloon animal game. Well, complaints from some.) Click for more photos

THE BAD: Speaking of things that just don’t fit well, here's what Maggie Gyllenhaal wore to some film awards in the currently-very-chilly New York City this week. I really love Maggie's style, even when it veers on kooky to the extreme, but I can't get on board with this. The pants are passable, but the jacket looks like something you'd wear for modesty at the doctors (except Mags has worn it backwards) and the bra reminds me of the time I accidentally took my flatmate's sports bra to the gym that was about three sizes too small. I find running stressful at the best of times, but try doing it while trying to contain two shaky avocados in flimsy egg cups. Not pleasant. For anyone. Click for more photos

THE GOOD: After last week's all-white winner, Jennifer Lawrence takes a trip to the dark side in this romantic Schiaparelli gown - and it does not disappoint. We're used to seeing JLaw in voluminous, cupcakey, pastel Dior gowns (and mostly stumbling on to the floor in them), so this vampy, gothy, "Forties screen siren caught changing in her boudoir" look is a refreshing change. And like the chameleon she is, Jen is bloody owning it, proving she looks even fiercer in sheer chiffon, a bralette and a deep berry lip than she does with a bow and arrow. Truly the girl on fire. THE BEST: Jennifer Lawrence looks stunning in this Ralph Lauren design, chiffon tiers and all. She really suits that ashen hair colour, those emerald earrings are the bomb.com and the dress has just-enough-detail to make it stand out from the black-gown crowd.
