Miranda Kerr fires back at Coles for dumping Harper's Bazaar nude cover

Miranda Kerr's management has fired back at Coles after copies of Harper's Bazaar featuring the nude model were pulled from shelves after it was deemed "inappropriate".

Kerr's representative, when approached by Fairfax Media in Woolworths in Sydney on Saturday, questioned the motives of the supermarket's censorship.

"There have been numerous examples of similar covers sold without restriction that celebrate and support women and this is no different," Kerr's manager Annie Kelly said. "They seem to have used it to get publicity during the busiest trading time of the year."

On Friday – a week out from Christmas – a Coles spokesman confirmed the magazine has been removed.

"We didn't think the cover was appropriate for our stores so the decision was made," he said before later adding "customer feedback" prompted the dumping.

On Saturday a spokesman refused to comment on why the cover, shot by renowned fashion photographer Steven Chee and featuring Kerr standing in a pair of stilettos, covering her naked breasts with her arm, was removed from the chain's magazine aisle.

Kerr is the latest in a list of high-profile Australian women to appear naked on the cover of women's magazine but is one of the first to be censored by a major supermarket.

In 2010 former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins graced the cover of Marie Claire followed up by a pregnant Megan Gale last year who later she she felt "very exposed".

Deborah Hutton, at 50, also starred starkers on the cover of The Australian Women's Weekly in 2012.

In August Coles removed an issue of the now defunct men's magazine Zoo Weekly from stores which featured the cover line "Breast and Fairest" after an online petition and an official complaint from a staff member.
