Preparation Time : 10 mins
Soaking Time ; Overnight
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Serves : 5 to 6
Ingredients:
Cow Peas / Thatta Payir - 2 cup dried
Shallots / Sambar Onion - 10 peeled
Garlic - 6 cloves peeled
Tomatoes - 1 large chopped
Tamarind Pulp - 1 tblspn or to taste
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
For Masala:
Fresh Coconut - 3/4 cup grated
Dry Red Chillies - 5 to 8
Coriander Seeds / Malli - 2 tblspn
Shallots / Sambar Onion - 4 peeled
For Seasoning:
Gingelly Oil / Indian Sesame Oil - 4 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
Dry Red Chilli - 2
Fenugreek Seeds / Vendayam / Methi - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - a sprig
Method:
Soak Cow peas overnight. Take them in a pressure cooker, cover with water. Pressure cook for 3 whistle, simmer the flame and cook for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and set aside.
Take grinding ingredients in a blender and make it into a fine puree.
Heat oil in a kadai. Add in the seasoning ingredients and saute for a min.
Add in shallots and garlic. Saute for couple of mins. Add in salt and turmeric powder. Mix well.
Add in tomatoes and saute for 2 more mins.
Now add in cooked cow peas along with water, ground masala, tamarind pulp, extra water if needed. Mix everything well and bring it to a boil.
Cover and simmer till oil separates.
Serve with rice.

Thatta (Sindhi: ٺٽو, Urdu: ٹھٹہ) is a historic town of 220,000 inhabitants in the Sindh province of Pakistan, near Lake Keenjhar, the largest freshwater lake in the country. Thatta's major monument, the necropolis at Makli is listed among the World Heritage Sites. The Shah Jahan Mosque, Thatta is also mentioned separately on the tentative list since 1993. Located 62 miles (98 kilometeres) east of the provincial capital of Sindh; Karachi, it makes for a practical escape for people from the city seeking to visit the picturesque old town.
The city, formerly commanding the delta of the Indus, was the capital of Lower Sindh from the 14th century onwards. During the ruling period of the Soomro Tribe Thatta was the capital of Sindh for 95 years. Between 1592-1739, it was governed in the name of the Mughal emperors of Delhi. In 1739 however, following the Battle of Karnal, the province was ceded to Nadir Shah of Persia, after which Thatta fell into neglect as the Indus river started to silt up. In the 17th Century, the Dutch East India Company had a small tradingpost (comptoir) in Thatta.

Curry Leaves - a sprig
Method:
Soak Cow peas overnight. Take them in a pressure cooker, cover with water. Pressure cook for 3 whistle, simmer the flame and cook for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and set aside.
Take grinding ingredients in a blender and make it into a fine puree.
Heat oil in a kadai. Add in the seasoning ingredients and saute for a min.
Add in shallots and garlic. Saute for couple of mins. Add in salt and turmeric powder. Mix well.
Add in tomatoes and saute for 2 more mins.
Now add in cooked cow peas along with water, ground masala, tamarind pulp, extra water if needed. Mix everything well and bring it to a boil.
Cover and simmer till oil separates.
Serve with rice.

Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
Dry Red Chilli - 2

Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 423 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.
The fort has a colourful history, and today has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. The Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria iv, for its unique exposition of "an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries."[3]
The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort or the "Ramparts of Galle", withstood the Boxing Day tsunami which damaged part of coastal area Galle town. It has been since restored. The Galle Fort also houses the elite Amangalla resort hotel, located near the Dutch Reformed Church. It was originally built in 1684 to house the Dutch Governor and his staff. It was then converted into a hotel and named then as the New Oriental Hotel in 1865, which catered to the European passengers traveling between Europe and Galle Port in the 19th century.
