Oz on Film, Part One Hundred and Twenty-eight: Şimdi Neredeler? Part One

Edit The Examiner 25 Jun 2015
"Şimdi neredeler?" is Turkish for "Where Are They Now?". Zeynep Değirmencioğlu went on to play Ayşecik in three or four more films, as well as tackling more adult roles in others, until she retired from acting in 1974 ... The couple had two sons, Erkan and Volkan, and enjoyed a great marriage until Serkan's death in 2013 ... Süleyman Turan (the Teneke Koruadam) is a writer as well as an actor, and in both capacities he still remains active ... ....

Oz on Film, Part One Hundred and Twenty-seven: "Ayşecik" Review, Part Two

Edit The Examiner 20 Jun 2015
Zeynep Değirmencioğlu is absolutely adorable as Ayşe; it is easy to see why she was Turkey's sweetheart for so many years. While not actually Dorothy Gale, she possesses all the qualities that make for a great Dorothy portrayal. she is sweet, sensitive, bold, and optimistic in the face of adversity ... Namesake of an emperor (a fact which would amuse Nick Chopper), Süleyman Turan does a fine job as the Teneke Koruadam....

Oz on Film, Part One Hundred and Twenty-six: "Ayşecik" Review, Part One

Edit The Examiner 18 Jun 2015
Take that into consideration, and what seems "cheap" can be both understood and forgiven ... The Korkuluk dresses in ragged green apparel with a straw wig and a floppy hat with a flower sticking out of it.The Teneke Koruadam's silver armor appears to have been constructed of buckram, with a headpiece not a million miles away from the one worn by David Montgomery in the Baum - Tietjens stage extravaganza ... ....

Oz on Film, Part One Hundred and Twenty-five: Ayşecik Says Goodbye

Edit The Examiner 15 Jun 2015
The day arrives for Ayşa and Keşkin Zeka to depart. The wise one's subjects turn out in bright array. standing on either side of a path outside the city, cheering and applauding their revered leader as he processes between them, modestly acknowledging their accolades. Behind him, much more subdued, walk Ayşa, Banju, the Korkuluk, the Teneke Koruadam, and the Aslan ... ....

Oz on Film, Part One Hundred and Twenty-four: Ayşecik

Edit The Examiner 13 Jun 2015
Ayşa is brought before the Kötü Cadi of the South, who gloats over her apparent triumph and demands the silver shoes. Ayşa, with the mark of Melek's kiss very clear to see upon her forehead, bends down to start to remove them ... The Cadi's former subjects show their gratitude to Ayşa, the Korkak Aslan, and the Cüceler, and soon the Korkuluk and the Teneke Koruadam are restored to their former selves ... ....

Oz on Film, Part One Hundred and Twenty-three: Ayşecik's Mission

Edit The Examiner 10 Jun 2015
At last Ayşa and her friends reach their goal; looking down into a valley, they behold the city and palace of Keşkin Zeka, and upon reaching it, they are graciously received by the Guardian of the Gates (Sitki Sezgin), a rotund little fellow in red who seems to have an incurable giggle fit ... As the team near the castle of the Kötü Cadı, the Teneke Koruadam stops them, and Ayşa sees the old hag in a window, looking through a telescope ... ....

Oz on Film, Part One Hundred and Twenty-two: Ayşecik In and Out of Danger

Edit The Examiner 07 Jun 2015
Onward travel girl, dog, straw man, metal man, and great cat ... The group moves cautiously through a dark forest, warned by the Teneke Koruadam to be on their guard ... Here they decide to spend the night, and as they sleep (unlike the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman, the Korkuluk and the Teneke Koruadam seem to need sleep), two china Sisters (played by Semra and Seda) suddenly start moving and talking ... ....

Oz on Film, Part One Hundred and Twenty-one: Ayşecik Makes Some Friends

Edit The Examiner 03 Jun 2015
Ayşa continues on her journey, marveling at the beautiful forested country; she is especially swept away when she and Banju stop atop a hill overlooking a coursing river ... he is missing a brain ... a rusted solid Teneke Koruadam (Tin Woodman, played by Süleyman Turan) ... The snarling beast (Ali Şen) knocks the brave but hapless Korkuluk to the ground, likewise the Teneke Koruadam, before going after little Banju ... But danger awaits......
