What is Mozo?

Mozo is a free, independently owned comparison website that helps Australians to save money on their everyday finances, like home loans, credit cards, travel insurance and now gas and electricity bills.

We are an Australian company which launched in 2008, when we first made our name demystifying financial products to help consumers get better banking deals. Now, we’re turning to the energy market to help consumers make better, more informed choices regarding their gas and electricity services.

Do you compare all gas plans in all Australian states?

We compare residential gas plans available in the following states and territories: Canberra, New South Wales, South Australia, South East Queensland and Victoria.The number of energy providers that are compared will depend on where your property is located as different energy providers offer their services in different areas.


For now, we do not compare gas providers in the Northern Territory, Tasmania or Western Australia but you can rest assured, as soon as the gas market is deregulated in these regions, Mozo will be there to help you compare gas plans and save.

Our database includes plans from 11 gas providers but we do not compare every available gas plan in the market. Our service compares gas plans that are currently available for new customers from gas retailers. Your current gas plan could be cheaper than the plans that are now available.

Mozo sources the data it uses from publicly available sources or directly from energy providers themselves. Mozo uses its best efforts to update this information whenever prices and deals change to ensure that Mozo’s comparison engine reflects the latest pricing information.

I just want the cheapest gas plan. How do I compare gas prices?

To find the cheapest gas plan in your area we’ll need to know the suburb or postcode where you currently live or where you will be moving to.

Our tool crunches the plans readily available for that area and will give you an estimate of your quarterly gas bill based on the average usage for similar size households in your suburb.

For quotes based on your actual usage, you’ll need your most recent gas bill handy so that you can enter in your exact gas usage and bill costs.

I want a cheap gas plan. Do the price estimates include discounts?

You can tell us whether you want us to include discounts in your gas cost estimates by filtering your preferences on our results page. We include discounts for paying on time and direct debits.

While some gas providers will have other discounts such as pensioner concessions or special offers, these discounts are not included in our price comparisons, so if you are eligible for these discounts you will need to add this to any cost estimates we provide.

I am moving and don’t have a recent gas bill.

We can give you an estimate of the cheapest gas plans for the household size and your payment preferences based on the average usage in the suburb you are moving to.

Mozo makes money by helping energy providers connect with customers, like you, who are looking for a great energy deal. Most importantly our service is totally free to use and it is the energy providers competing for your business that pay Mozo, not you!

Mozo earns a fee when you click through on a ‘go to site’ or 'check it out' button and are taken to an energy provider’s web site and continue your purchase. These placements are all marked ‘promoted’ or ‘sponsored’ so its very transparent and what you see is what you get!

Mozo may also earn revenue when energy providers purchase display advertising on our site or when we help them use the all the great data we’ve collected.
