The Messina Strait, the famous Greek theatre of Taormina, the archeological sites of Segesta and Selinunte, the marvellous Catania, the unique monastery and temple of Monreale, the picturesque Cefalu and Ragusa are all worth taking a look on the largest island of the Mediterranean Sea. The romantic Sicily, an island very rich in monuments and natural beauties, enchants every visitor. Let us take a walk on the streets of the capital, Palermo, let us refresh ourselves on the beach of Mondello, take a slide in the famous Citta del Mare, and go to the ever-foggy Erice using the cableway. We can enjoy the sicilian blood-oranges, drink a capuccino among the walls of Syracuse, and finally, take a walk to the still active Etna volcano.

Named for good sailing winds, Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina, and home to nearly a quarter of the country’s two million residents. Come for the stunning European architecture, and stay for delicious cuts of meat, the city’s zest for soccer, and, of course, the tango.
“The Paris of South America” boasts outstanding shopping and a friendly populace. A tour of Buenos Aires should cut through La Boca Harbor, where you’ll find numerous street vendors, restaurants, and street dancers willing to give you a spin. Wander down the streets to take in colorful artwork, and make a game out of asking the locals what neighborhood you should tour next. Here’s a hint: with so much to see, everyone will give you a different answer!
Some will tell you to visit San Telmo for souvenirs, patio shopping, and crumbling historical buildings. Others will suggest Puerto Madero, a refurbished shipping port that boasts a mixture of old-world glamour and modern buildings. What everyone will suggest, however, is a stop by Plaza de Mayo. There you can take in the rosy architecture of the Casa Rosada, which was made famous by Argentine First Lady Eva Peron and the musical about her life, “Evita.” Take a tour and learn about her life, from her humble beginnings to her rise to power.
Cap off your Buenos Aires sightseeing with an evening walk through Puerto Madero, where you can get a late dinner and dance until the next day arrives.

With around three hundred and twenty thousand inhabitants Catania is the second largest city in Sicily. Its historical significance is clearly visible throughout the city’s magnificent old district that is dominated by Baroque architecture. The city has few monuments that pre date the Baroque Period but it was not wars or battles that were responsible for this but a volcano that towers high above the island and that is located thirty kilometres from Catania: Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano has destroyed this city more than once. On the Ionic Sea in the south east of Sicily is Syracusa that in ancient times was a legendary city state. Greek settlers from Corinth founded the city in 734 B.C. and it soon enjoyed much fame and prosperity. South of Agrigento is the ancient sanctuary of the Valle Dei Templi, the legendary Valley Of Temples. An enchanting area that is more of a plateau than a valley is a truly unique and magical place. Selinunte is one of the largest archaeological sites in Europe. The Selinunte Acropolis, formerly known as Megara Hyblae, was an important building complex and was built in the seventh century B.C. In the immediate surroundings of the Acropolis a small urban centre developed that in later years had a population that numbered tens of thousands.Beneath Monreale Mountain and located on the coast, is Palermo, the capital of Sicily. The city dates back to the eighth century B.C. However, nothing remains of the time when the Phoenicians founded the ancient town of Panormus, Palermo’s predecessor. The former summer residence of the Emir Of Palermo served as the palace of Norman king, Roger The Second. Up until the thirteenth century this luxurious Norman palace was a symbol of the wealth and power of the Normans. With its many fascinating ancient monuments, the remains of the CARTHAGINIANS, GREEKS and ROMANS, and with the glorious heritage of the Middle Ages and the charming influences of both the ARABS and the NORMANS, SICILY is justifiably known as, ‘A Treasure Trove Of History’.

Travel video about destination Monreale in Italy.
In the mountain area close to Palermo is the picturesque town of Monreale, a townscape that for more than eight hundred years has been dominated by a single building: Monreale Cathedral was built due to a struggle for power between the Bishop Of Palermo and the Norman King, William The Second. Architecturally, the cathedral possesses a wonderful harmony of styles including those of Norman, Romanic and Arabian. With the building of the cathedral and the elevation of the city to an archbishopric, William The Second had created a worthy competitor to Palermo Cathedral. The Norman cathedral and its adjacent cloister are two historical jewels that give a special significance to the small town of Monreale and the buildings proudly overlook their former rivals in the Sicilian metropolis of Palermo.

Travel video about destination Sicily in Italy.
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and is the most diverse region in Italy,a land of gods and natural forces and a place of ancient cultures. Throughout the history of Sicily there have been many battles, rulers, cultures and religions. Prior to Roman rule both the Greeks and the Carthagians fought against each other. Later came the Arabs and the Normans. Catania is Sicily’s second largest city and has been strongly influenced by earthquakes and also the volcanic activity of Mount Etna. Therefore only a few historical remnants have survived. However, after each disaster the city was rebuilt and the result is a Baroque city dominated by fascinating sights full of character and charm. A devastating earthquake in 1693 destroyed the original town of Noto and left it in ruins. Construction of the new town took almost a hundred years until at end of the eighteenth century most of its buildings had been rebuilt. In addition to the geometrical design of its streets the remarkable architectural harmony of the town has been created by much use of ochre-coloured sandstone. The privately-owned train, the Ferrovia Circumetnea, travels around Mount Etna from Catania to Riposto. A couple of kilometres outside Catania there are vast fertile fields. In the background is the mighty and over three thousand metre high Mount Etna, one of the most active and famous volcanoes in the world. Taormina is situated on a rock high above the Ionic Sea. The Teatro Greco was built out of the stone of Monte Tauro in the third century A.D. and five hundred years later it was enlarged by the Romans for gladiatorial battle. The old town ended at Porta Messina whose medieval palaces and villas have been preserved right up until the present day. A few kilometres from Palermo and set within a beautiful bay is Mondello sheltered by the slopes of Monte Pellegrino that contains a grotto, an altar and a pilgrims church, the Santuario Di Santa Rosalia. Here this fascinating journey comes to an end. Sicily is exquisite, an ancient island of both discovery and pleasure.

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and the most diverse region in Italy, a land of gods and natural forces and a place of ancient cultures.Catania, in the northeast of the island, is Sicily’s second largest city that has been strongly influenced by earthquakes and also the volcanic activity of Mount Etna. It is believed that Greek settlers from Chalkidi founded it and some centuries later, it was conquered by the Romans and later, the Arabs brought the city a new wave of prosperity.Noto is a charming town with around 20,000 inhabitants. It is one of the most beautiful enclosed Baroque towns in Sicily. However, many of Noto’s historic buildings have been neglected for many years and are in somewhat less than perfect condition. The Cathedrale Di San Nicolo also fell into disrepair as a result of continued neglect and this caused both its dome and part of its roof to collapse in 1996.A proud and mighty volcano rises above eastern Sicily. Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe, is the undisputed ruler of this fascinating Mediterranean island. The snow on the summit region of Etna obscures the fact that deep within the volcano is an unimaginable natural furnace with a temperature of around 1,000 degrees Celsius.Marsala was given its name by the Arabs who called it ‘Marsal-Allah’, ‘God’s Harbor’. The monumental city gate is a reminder of the landing of Giuseppe Garibaldis on the 8th of March, 1860.In the mountain area close to Palermo, another wonderful city featured on our journey, is the picturesque town of Monreale, a townscape that for more than 800 years, has been dominated by a single building. Argentina is one of the jewels in the Latin American crown. A vast country stretching 3,500 kilometres from the Bolivian border in the north to Ushuaia and the gateway to Antarctica in the south, it is a place that offers some of the most impressive natural wonders anywhere on earth. It has a world-class tourist infrastructure, with arguably the best cuisine on the continent, and it is safe. But its not just that that makes a trip to Argentina feel so special. The country simply has a redoubtable spirit unlike any other in the region, and nowhere is that more evident than in its lively capital, Buenos Aires.
If Argentina is one of the jewels in the Latin American crown, so the cosmopolitan Buenos Aires is one of the standout cities of the continent. Many gateway cities are just that, and you’re best off getting in and getting out, but not the Argentine capital; this is a destination in its own right that ideally requires at least 3 days to truly explore. A place where the elegance of old Europe crashes against the colourful coast of Latin America, Buenos Aires is a beautiful city, with elegant and impressive architecture, relaxing parks and some great sites. Must see locations include the colourful Bocca district, famous for its brightly painted homes, San Telmo, renowned for its antique market and strange curiosity shops, Palermo, home to some of the city’s most stylish restaurants, hotel and bars, and the smart district of Recoleta, most well-known for its famous cemetery, the final resting place of among others Argentina’s most famous daughter, Eva Peron.
From here heading north the first place you’ll be tempted to visit is one of the country’s many natural wonders… the famous Iguazu Falls.
From here, working our way anti clockwise around the country you’ll come to Corrientes and the Iberia wetlands. Although not commonly visited by international travellers, we at Wild Frontiers love this place and run many trips to the atmospheric estancias where we have fun playing at being gauchos.
From here you come to Cordoba, the country’s second largest city. This is a region known for the pretty Andean foothills into which you can ride or walk.
Next up is the famous wine region of Mendoza. Anyone interested in gastronomy trips should spend at least 3 days here, where, staying at one of the locally-run boutique wineries you can enjoy some world class dining. But Mendoza isn’t only about cuisine… it is also the gateway to hikes up the America’s highest mountain, Aconcagua, and some good horse rides into the low Andes.
Heading north of here is the spectacular coloured mountain desert region of Salta, and the northern routes into Chile and the Atacama Desert, or heading further east you’ll next come to San Martin de los Andes, where you’ll find some wonderful mountain scenery with a few great estancias again offering some great riding, and fishing, experiences this time into the higher Andes.
Now heading south, the next location you’ll come to is one of the countries major highlights, the lake district of Bariloche. Here you can enjoy all manner of activities, from riding and cycling, to kayaking and abseiling, or just relaxing with a nice picnic on one of the regions many lakes.
Heading south on highway 40, passed the fossilised remains of the world’s largest dinosaur, and the famous painted hands at Cueva de las Manos, you come to FitzRoy National Park before hitting one of the most impressive areas on the continent, El Calafate, and the regions wide open steppes and famous glaciers that here crash down into the lakes. There are many such glaciers but perhaps the most famous is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Puerto Moreno glacier.
To the east of the country is Puerto Valdez, from which between October to March the Orca whales can be spotted, and in the very south is Ushuaia, and the gateway to Antarctica. At Wild Frontiers we have relationships with some of the best Antarctic explorer vessels.
Argentina is a huge country and unless you are lucky enough to have a month to travel you are unlikely to see it all in one visit. The important thing is to work out what you’d like to see most, and then let us help you work out the best way to do it.
Although Argentina may not have the level indigenous cultural traditions that Bolivia and Peru enjoy; although it might not have the beaches, colour and sheer razzmatazz that Brazil can boast, Argentina does have a plethora of sites and experiences with which to seduce the visitor. With its dramatic Patagonian steppes, its extraordinary glaciers, its colourful mountains and deserts, its lakes and its coast, Argentina’s landscapes are second to none. Its wildlife is impressive and varied, its cuisine is world class and in its cultured, cosmopolitan capital city, it has one of the most fun metropolises anywhere on the planet.

Enjoy Argentinas capital as best as possible with this Travel Video Guide by getting to know the history, the culture and of course the food - if you take it easy this list can keep you busy for a whole week.
And yes - there is much more to do but I challenged myself to highlight the most popular things to do in Buenos Aires ;)
--- Top 10 Things to do in Buenos Aires, Argentina ---
1) free walking tour (innercity & main sights)
I discovered Demasiado tours through Couchsurfing and recommendations from friends I met at different CouchSurfing meetings in Buenos Aires.
more info: Demasiado Tours, (http://www.facebook.com/DemasiadoTours)
2) Recoleta neighborhood & cemetery
This "barrio" is one of the fancy onces, close to the city center -- great architecture, nice parks and one of the most popular cemeteries in town with impressive graves of notable people like "Evita". I did a free tour here as well to get a quick overview before walking around on my own.
more info: Recoleta free walking tour - Buena Onda Free Tour (http://buenaondafreetour.blogspot.com.ar/)
La Recoleta Cemetery - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Recoleta_Cemetery
3) Buenos Aires Street Art Tours
Matt became a good friend of mine and runs unique graffiti toursfollow providing loads of information about the murals, the artists and the Street Art Scene in general -- a great way for people who are new to Street Art to dive into this interesting culture!
more info: Buenos Aires Street Art Tours (#3):
BA Street Art Tours, (http://buenosairesstreetart.com/) - also a great Blog about Streetart and Graffiti in general!
4) Ice Cream, Helado, Gelato -- mmmh!
The amount of people who immigrated from Italy to Buenos Aires and Argentina in general is very high -- therefore you can find loads of great Ice Cream Parlours here. Beside the big chains like "Freddo" you should go for some family owned businesses -- ask the locals as they know best where to go!
more info: Top 5 Ice Cream Parlours (#4):
http://www.argentinaindependent.com/life-style/food-drink/top-5-ice-cream-parlours/
5) Discover Buenos Aires by Bike
Time to do something active: grab a bike and cycle around the city (like I did in Berlin)! Since 2 years the city provides a decent network of bicycle routes & most of the hostels offer a bike rental service. This is a great way to get to know Puerto Madero as there is no Subte (Metro) station close to it.
more info: Biking in Buenos Aires (#5):
article by BBC http://www.bbc.com/travel/feature/20110906-biking-in-buenos-aires-picks-up-speed
6) Parks
After all these activities it's time for a break! Luckily you can find a decent amount of green areas all around the city. My favourite one has been "Bosques de Palermo"
more info: Top 5 Buenos Aires Parks (#6):
http://www.argentinaindependent.com/life-style/thecity/top-5-buenos-aires-parks/
7) Tango
Tango was born in San Telmo and there is an option to watch it for free at the sundays open-air market.
8) San Telmo Market / Sunday fair
The best day to visit the oldest barrio of Buenos Aires, San Telmo, is possibly on Sundays where you can stroll along the antique-market. Though it is very touristy it is a good place to get some nice souvenirs.
more info: San Telmo (#8):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Telmo,_Buenos_Aires
9) Steak & Malbec Wine
There is no visit to Argentina without having a great steak sided by some of the best wines you can find! Beside having an Asado with friends, the restaurant "Las Cabras" is a very good and budget friendly option which is quite popular by locals, too!
more info: Steak Restaurant (#9):
"Las Cabras" - cheap, tasty and popular amongst locals (https://plus.google.com/117924893443756325463/about?gl=de&hl;=en)
10) Party & Nightlife
Buenos Aires is exhausting as you can party there every night ;) Around the neighborhood Palermo you can find a high density of Bars and Clubs.
