Studio 10 co-host Sarah Harris is expecting a baby.

The journalist has made the announcement on air that she and her husband, Tom Ward, are set to become first-time parents on Christmas Day.

"I'm 15 weeks and I've been trying to hide it, very unsuccessfully because the audience keep picking up on it saying, 'You're doing a wonderful job at dressing your changing body'. I'm due on Christmas Day," she said.

The 33-year-old daughter of a single mother, who grew up in a housing commission block in Mount Druitt, Sydney's Struggle Street, apologised for being "cranky and hormonal" during her first trimester.

She confirmed she was keen to know the sex of the baby before the birth.

"I don't know what it is yet. I'm dying to know but they can't tell. I'm hopeless, I can't even wait til Christmas Day to open presents so I'm hanging out to find out what it is; don't care what it is but I just need to know," she said.

Harris married her partner, Irish IT specialist – and redhead – Ward in July last year.

"You'd want it to have red hair wouldn't you?" Harris' co-host, Ita Buttrose, asked.

"I'm dying for it be a ginger. I'd love a little ginger baby but as long as it's happy and healthy we're good," Harris said.

"He [Ward] didn't quite believe it at first, but he's excited."

Also on the talk show panel to share the good news on Wednesday was socialite Brynne Edelsten, a day after she was due to face a West Australian court on drugs charges for possession of MDMA. Her case has been adjourned to July 27.
